Night of the Bloody Apes (1969), Don't Go in the House (1979), Butcher, Baker, Nightmare Maker (1981) In 1984, in the U.K., the Video Recording Act was passed, which required certification of all video releases by the British Board of Film Classification, aka BBFC. This all came about due to a list of video titles that a group of various religious and other social groups run by the likes of Mary Whitehouse, deemed unsuitable to be viewed and thought for sure it would help corrupt the youth of England. The initial list had 72 titles on it, both films that had already been released after obtaining a BBFC certificate but now was deemed too offensive, as well as a whole bunch of other titles that were believed to fall under the obscenity law. If you own a shop that rented or sold one of these titles, you could be shut down, fined, and possibly even go to jail for it. And this all took place, not in the dark ages, but in the mid 1980s. Hard to believe it, especially growing up here in the U.S. Some of those titles have only recently gotten passed and released over in the U.K., even 40 years later. Blows the mind. In this episode, we discuss not only the whole Video Nasty era, but cover 3 films from that list, with each of us watching all 3 and see if we made it through without turning us into mindless deviants. The Fantasy/Animation podcast is back with a bang thanks to the Mexican superhero caper La mujer murcielago/The Batwoman (René Cardona, 1968), a transnational twist on the famed DC character. Joining Chris and Alex to discuss intellectual property, international adaptation, and the politics of the remake is Dr Iain Robert Smith, Senior Lecturer in Film Studies at King's College London. Iain's research focuses on the ways in which material is adapted across different national contexts, including what happens when Hollywood films are remade by (and for) other cultures. These areas were central to his monograph The Hollywood Meme: Transnational Adaptations in World Cinema (EUP, 2016), and developed further in the anthologies Media Across Borders (with Andrea Esser and Miguel Bernal-Merino, Routledge, 2016) and Transnational Film Remakes (with Constantine Verevis, EUP 2017). Chelsea has 52 acting credits and was most recently seen in the holiday movie "Navigating Christmas." Of course she was also in the series "UnReal" as well as "Girlfriend's Guide to Divorce." Gregory Harrison plays Fire Chief Sam. Gregory has 119 acting credits and most recently he has appeared in 144 episodes of "General Hospital." Gregory reprised his role in the sequel - "The Nine Kittens of Christmas" and also appeared in a number of the "Signed, Sealed, Delivered" movies.  Jennifer Cheon Garcia plays fellow vet school student Sarah. She has 38 acting credits and ticks bingo spaces for "Girlfriends Guide to Divorce" as well as "Once Upon a Time." Filming took place at Fort Langley in the Langley Township, British Columbia. When luchadors begin disappearing en masse, mild-mannered socialite/luchadora/crimefighter Batwoman is on the case.  It's a trail that leads her to Dr. Eric Williams and his nefarious plot to... do something with the pineal gland... that results in him creating a race of gill-men.  Batwoman must battle the gill-men, train the next generation of luchadoras, and outshine her incompetent cop boyfriends all while dressed in nothing more than a Batman mask and a small bikini.

A Mixed bag today of some of radio's finest...First a look at this day in History.Then X Minus One, originally broadcast March 28, 1956, 68 years ago, A Pail of Air.   A story about the last family left on a frozen Earth.
