There's arguably no superhero in existence that has been reimagined, redefined, or reinterpreted more than Batman.  No matter how many times he's been rebooted, audiences are always willing to come back to Gotham City's greatest defender.  With so much Bat content out there, there's plenty to dissect, analyze, and of course, rank!  This podcast is dedicated to a surgical evaluation of Batman's history, with a focus on ranking several topics in the world of Batman, among other classic Bat themes and characters.Join hosts Daniel Cohen, Pop Break's former Film Editor, and Kris Ingersoll, co-host of the Media/Lit podcast, as they bring on several guests every month to share their passion for the one and only Dark Knight.  From Adam West to Robert Pattinson, no bat stone will be left unturned.  Bottom-line: If you're a Batman fan, this is required listening.Love is in the air!  On the heels of Valentine's Day, it's time to rank the women who've stolen the Dark Knight's heart, as we rank every cinematic Batman love interest!  What other podcast has a rankings list that includes Talia Al Ghul, three Catwomen, Miss Kitka, and Dr. Chase Meridian. As this is a Valentine's Day themed list, we had to bring in a pop break power couple.  You know them from the Blerd Watchers podcast –Marshall Stevenson makes his third appearance, and making her debut, it's Courtney Stevenson! The panelists discuss and debate everyone from Miss Kitka, played by Lee Meriwether in the 1960s, all the way to Zoe Kravitz in 2022's The Batman.  We break it all down.  All the Catwomen.  Vicki Vale.  And of course, it wouldn't be a Batman by the Numbers rankings episode without Daniel getting bent out of shape on at least one ranking. This is one you don't want to miss, as the conversations on all these characters spiral into great discussions about these movies, and the overall world of Batman, which is what this podcast is all about!

Happy Valentine's Day, nerds! Please note the content warning for this video before listening.  Starting in at 0:09:48 with a brief history of the lovely Patsy Walker, before getting into her romance with Daimon Hellstrom, all that ensued, and her life since. We then go on to explore the relationships of... That's the question. Why do our celebrated (and disgraced) comic writers continue to knowingly create this kinds of stories, these kinds of terrible relationships---specifically for our favorite superheroes to be in? Is it to show they, too, are flawed? Hardly, we see that in other ways. Is it to  make them seem more real? Again, I can't say for sure. All I can do is explore these stories with you, learn from them, and aim to do (and be) better.  Stay sweaty. Each week, the wonderful Steve J Ray (reviewer at DC Comics News, as well as Editor-in-Chief of our sister site Dark Knight News) and a guest will sit down and dive cowl first into an episode of the greatest animated series of all time. In this episode, Steve is joined by fellow DCN and DKN writer, and his son, Adam Ray to talk about the 60th and 61st episodes of season one of Batman: TAS, the two-parter entitled "The Demon's Quest". So sit back, put on your cape and cowl, and prepare yourself for a journey into the darkness! Episode Synopsis Part 1 - When Robin is mysteriously abducted from his college campus, Batman begins a fruitless search... until he is astounded by the sudden appearance in the Batcave of Ra's al Ghul. Ra's quickly reveals that his daughter, Talia, has been abducted under circumstances similar to Robin's, suggesting that the same people are responsible. So begins an uneasy truce between Batman and 'The Demon'. Part 2 - After freeing Talia from her father's clutches and escaping from an avalanche, Batman and Robin follow the only clue they have – the word 'Orpheus'. After discovering that 'Orpheus' is Ra's private satellite that will orbit over the Sahara, the duo travel to the Demon's desert stronghold. There, Batman learns that the satellite is actually a weapon which will explosively destroy all the Lazarus Pits simultaneously throughout the world, destroying all the life that exists. NOTE: This is a direct adaptation of "Daughter of the Demon" from Batman #232, June 1971, and "The Demon Lives Again" from Batman #244, September 1972, both by Denny O'Neil and Neal Adams. Phil, Jake & Jason rank fast-food chain Taco Bell, Batman: The Animated Series and crossbows on the List of Every Damn Thing.VOTE HERE to help choose which item on the List of Every Damn Thing should be re-ranked in an upcoming episode (you can vote once a day).If you have something to add to the list, email it to list@everydamnthing.net (or get at us on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook).SHOW NOTES: Youtube is aggressively pushing sexy Fran Drescher content at Phil, such as this video where someone combed through episodes of the Nanny for material. We engage in some speculation about a reboot of The Nanny. After thinking about it, the Nanny itself was a reworking of similar stories. Dorito taco shells don't go hard enough, they're not dumb enough, there's not enough crystals on the shell. Go all the way. There should be a Mountain Dew sauce. Don't half-step! We discuss many Taco Bell ads, including those featuring Little Richard, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Godzilla and of course the Taco Bell Chihuahua. Phil has a lot to say about how Shaq & Hakeem Olajuwon helped Taco Bell launch the Double Decker Taco. Taco Bell was using the Run for the Border slogan as late as the 90s. The Taco Bell Cantina in Pacifica is the world's most beautiful Taco Bell. Here’s Taco Bell’s appearance in Demolition Man. Man-Bat is like a werewolf but he turns into a bat instead of a wolf. Harley Quinn is a culturally omnipresent sexy clown with a baseball bat and a PhD. Renee Montoya is a hard-boiled detective who was played in a recent movie by Rosie Perez. Clayface is a washed-up actor who uses makeup that turns him into a shape-changing mud-man. Body horror! Jason mentions the legitimately upsetting movie Monsturd.  Fleischer Superman cartoons are really good, they're by the animators behind Popeye & Betty Boop but they go more realistic here. They rely heavily on (and were innovators in) rotoscoping (where real motion is traced). They look super Art Deco. Here's an example of Superman dealing with some robots. The 1989 Batman movie directed by Tim Burton (who also made Pee-Wee's Big Adventure) maybe doesn't hold up that well but the soundtrack includes “Batdance” by Prince which would go high on the list if we ranked it. Bruce Timm was one of the main artists and designers on Batman: The Animated Series. His stuff looks really good but you get the idea that they needed to spray him with a water bottle every so often cause he'd get too worked up. Paul Dini was the head writer on Batman: The Animated Series. His sister taught one of Jake’s college classes. Beer Street and Gin Lane are a couple of woodcuts showing you two places: a cool place where people drink beer and an awful nightmare where they drink gin. The Ventriloquist is Phil's favorite villain. The actual villain is "Scarface", a dummy. Poison Ivy is a mad scientist, femme-fatale, ecoterrorist who looks like Tex Avery designed her in the 30s. Talia Al Ghul loves Batman, but her father is his sworn enemy. The Watchmen comic is ranked really high because it's good. It doesn't hit now like it did in 1986, what could? Here’s the cover of Wolverine Limited Series #4, which inexplicably features a gun sight on a crossbow. It turns out harpoon guns are more similar to cannons than crossbows. Episode 82: Batman The Animate Series - Off Balance, The Man Who Killed Batman and Mudslide Welcome to The Uncaped Crusaders Review! This is a podcast where Mark and Ian discuss (and rant) about all things Batman! So much to get to this week! After catching up with some news and what we've been watching we are recapping three more episodes of Batman The Animated Series. First it's Count Vertigo and the first meeting between Talia Al Ghul and Batman. We will also see some Hitchcock references and the first appearance of Ra's Al Ghul. Next we have one of the all-time great episodes. Batman has been accidentally killed by a pathetic nobody and we see how Gotham takes it. The gangs are thrilled, the cops crushed and The Joker...well when the Joker gives Batman's eulogy, it's the greatest Joker scene of all time. Mark does his best to recreate it. Last we are in a strange Clayface episode where he is falling apart. There are more movie references in this episode than any we've ever seen in the show. Catwoman and Batman are engaged but they have to settle some old business and also a double date with Superman and Lois Lane.Affiliate link included. Transcript:Graham:Batman and Catwoman go into the desert on a secret mission and then they go on a double date with Superman and Lois Lane. Find out more as we take a look at Batman Vol 5: Rules of Engagement, straight ahead.[Intro Music]Announcer:Welcome to the Classy Comics podcast where we search for the best comics in the universe. From Boise Idaho, here is your host Adam Graham.Graham:Rules of Engagement is a really interesting Batman book about Tom King. It really doesn't hinge on the fight scenes or the big action sequences you saw, particularly during the first three volumes of Tom King's run and, of course, a little bit in The War of Jokes and Riddles. This is much more a character-based book. It collects issues 33 to 37 of Batman along with Batman Annual #2. The first part of the book is issues 33 to 35 and the story, Rules of Engagement, in which Batman and Catwoman are heading to Khadym, a restricted area that no one on earth is supposed to enter, especially superheroes. There's even agreement with the Justice League but Batman is violating the agreement because, as it eventually turns out, the woman who is responsible for the hundreds of murders that Catwoman has been accused of and is still wanted by law enforcement for is in Khadym but she's also there with the League of Assassins and Talia Al Ghul. So, with the help of Tiger a friend of Nightwing's, i.e Dick Grayson, they make their entrance into Khadym. There Tahlia sends out the League of Assassins to weaken Batman before she can come out and finish the job and defeat him. However, Catwoman stands in her way and the two have the best fight in the whole book, which is essentially a book length sword fight. As can be expected with anything Tom King writes, there is a lot of dialogue in there but it is really a great dual and of course there's an explanation in the book because one thing you might wonder is why Batman is kind of down from the count, not able to do anything while Catwoman has the wind and strength to actually carry on the sword fight but the reason, as stated in the book, as Dick Grayson said, he always would take the brunt of any fight whenever he fights so. Catwoman has not received the level or severity of fight as the brunt of the battle came on Batman. As they dialogue Talia Al Ghul essentially says that she views herself as the best and Batman as the only man who could possibly be her equal. Catwoman scoffs at that and challenges her and tells her how she views Batman. “The man is broken. All the way from the start, cracked. He's always going to put a vow, a vow he took as a 10-year-old, a vow to war on crime, whatever that is. He'll always take that vow over anyone”, and she goes on to say, “If you think of yourself as the best and you're looking for the best, whatever he is Talia, I swear he's not that. What he is, all he is, he's just the stupid man I stupidly love”. And it's a very honest statement but there's some sweetness in it too and I think this is one reason why the entire Selina Kyle/Bruce Wayne marriage could work and I think, if nothing else, it does explain part of what he finds attractive. Selina doesn't love him as this mythic figure, this incomparable perfect a legend. I think that so many women in the D.C. Universe have had designs on Batman but really have just kind of have this very mythic view and put him on this huge pedestal and that's really uncomfortable for anyone but I think Selina's view is a lot more honest and accepting of who he is and it's something that he can live up to.The book is also interesting because it does feature more of the Bat family finding out about this engagement,

Hey guys. This is one of those ideas that you formulate because you want to see your favourite character in something, and not necessarily because it seems like a good plan. I really want to see Jason Todd (not original but best Red Hood) in the DC cinematic universe. I think the world is gritty enough to support the origins of the character, his robust and angsty nature, and the possibility of killing him off. We've already been blessed by a pretty great adaptation of the Under The Red Hood comic, so this movie will have to be original, and depart from the classic telling. Similarly, if you modernize it too much, you risk treading on the Arkham Knight portrayal which is fantastic, but not what I see being integrated in the film 'verse. Jason Todd will still be the reckless, orphan boy who is discovered whilst trying to pry the tires off the Batmobile, but we will see a depth to his origin, a desire to help others, and also the skewed sense of justice and violence that we come to expect from him in his later years. It's after his death, at the hands of the Joker and Harley Quinn, that we discover a fraction in the League of Assassins. Talia Al Ghul and her loyalist members (like Bronze Tiger, Lady Shiva, etc.) fracture away from Ra's Al Ghul after witnessing his reliance on the Joker for his latest scheme. They feel his direction is off, and the time for his daughter to lead the empire is now. Talia convinces her followers that the revival and utilization of the dead Robin is a top priority, and he will be a crucial general in their eventual plans and battles. But in truth, she wants to bring him back for love of her "Detective" and hopes that reviving his lost son will curry her favour with Bruce. As Jason is smuggled into a hidden (and some said tainted) Lazarus Pit, his body and the cave are prepared for a ritual. I won't go too much more into it, but the waters revive Jason and bestow upon him unique powers and armour unseen before. Somewhere between shimmering glassine alien materials, and a daemonic energy and presence, The Red Hood is born again formidable and thankfully new enough that we haven't seen this dog and pony show before. Yes his reflective helmet will stay, but will look unique enough to suggest that perhaps he is a creature from the beyond, and not just a man under the mask.I've got a feeling none of this will end up in the DC world, no matter the medium, but hey. Enjoy the ramblings none the less. Also God of Four continues to be awesome. I have a soft spot for games that reflect cosmetically the upgrades you give your armour and stuff. So every additional dwarven detail or gold border to the Leviathan Axe makes me drool that little bit more.Stay alive out there guys, let me know what you like/hate this week.Cheers
