This is a summer rerun of an episode that originally aired July 30, 2018. We're posting not only because Harley and Ivy went from subtextual lovers to full on romantic partners on the HBO Max series but also because we've got a new Batman: TAS episode of Cartoons That Made Us Gay, which you can listen to here. Excuse the echo! It was 2018 and we didn't know better@ "Harley and Ivy" (January 18, 1993) In GEE's first bonus episode, Glen and Drew focus on something that's not a sitcom but is nonetheless pretty damn gay — the Batman: The Animated Series installment that put a lesbianish aura around Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn, which extended to the comics and ultimately made the duo a full-fledged couple years later. Support us on Patreon! It's Wednesday once again my Fireside family, and while new comic books reign supreme, a little new news wouldn't hurt either. Join Mendte, Mashko, and Maurer as they recap some of the week's biggest comic-related current events. From Amazon releasing Paper Girls, and HBOMax dropping season 3 of Harley Quinn, to Guardians Ho Ho Ho-ing around the Galaxy, Mutants on hold until 2025, and the DC film and TV lineup. So while you head out to pick up your pull list, we got plenty to talk about on the ride there. Hell, these new long issues, we have you covered on the way back as well. Welcome to Fireside.
It's the Eat, Tangent, Pod Tour on The Infinity Podcast! This week: Scott and Rachel break down the first episodes of HARLEY QUINN Season Three and Amazon Prime's adaptation of PAPER GIRLS, going deep on why STRANGER THINGS hurts the latter, why male actors play multiple superheroes, and why Marvel's suddenly disparate quality control is proving disruptive. It's all here and more on HARLEY QUINN and PAPER GIRLS: KIDS ON BIKES!
Brandon and Jimmy take a look at the meet-cute that started it all, as a partnership turns into a friendship that eventually turns into much, much more as Harley meets Ivy in one of the best loved and remembered episodes of BTAS.

There is so much to talk about this week that everything couldn't even fit into the title lol. First and foremost, Queen Bey is back!!! It's been 6 years since Beyoncé has come out with a solo studio album, and this weekend she released her seventh studio album "Renaissance" (1:38). We got the chance to catch up on quite a bit in the movie and TV worlds as well over the week. In the movie world we got a chance to checkout "DC League of Super-Pets" (19:05), the latest animated family adventure featuring the pets of our favorite DC superheroes, "Green Lantern: Beware My Power" (33:47) a new DC animated film starring John Stewart's Green Lantern, and "The Bob's Burgers Movie" (41:42), the feature film based off the tv show with the same name. So, a lot of animation. In the TV world, we have some premieres. The first 3 episodes of "Harley Quinn" (48:15) season 3 are now on HBO Max! After a 2 year hiatus due to the pandemic, it's time for some more Harley and Ivy shenanigans. Also a brand new show from Issa Rae, "Rap Sh!t" (55:46) premiered last week on HBO. Only the first 3 episode of the series are out so far, but what kind of tone does it set for the show? We also got the chance to checkout a couple of documentaries including "Milestone Generations"(1:05:31), about the making and ongoing legacy of Milestone comics, and "Light & Magic" (1:13:41), a docuseries about the history of the special and visual effects division of Lucasfilm. We also do a brief rundown of one of the biggest wrestling events of the year, WWE's "SummerSlam" (1:22:23). News of the Week (1:37:49) 2BlackNerds.com (Song: Cuff It x Beyoncé)

The Superhero Show Show #439The Umbrella Academy and Best Villain of the Year It's the finale of The Umbrella Academy, plus the award for Villain of the Year, and an interview with the Next Door Villain pod, on an all-new Superhero Show Show! On an all-new, all-different episode of The Superhero Show Show, Cassie and the Boyz are finally wrapping up their coverage of The Umbrella Academy's third season! With two Umbrellas down, and hanging out in the afterlife, it's up to the rest of the Umbrellas and Sparrows to make it out of the mystery hotel. Don't ring that bell! Also...maybe...don't trust that dad! Will the team be able to count on their dirty-butted father to save their lives and the world? Will Klaus and Luthor be able to make it back from the dead to help? And, with this being a show based on comic books, will there be a hallway fight or two? You know it! Before that, though, the Taste Buds keep the 2022 Shushies going with the Best Villain award! Resident Alien won the first Shushie of the year with Best Ensemble, but probably won't win this week, because that show doesn't really have villains. Next up is the Pull List, where we cover every TV show based on a comic book that came out this week, including reviews and discussions of the first two episodes of Harley Quinn, and the penultimate episode of Riverdale! Finally, Ryan sits down with Joe and Tiana of the Next Door Villain podcast to discuss their show, the state of the industry now, and the best villain performances of the year! [School of Everything Else 2022] The initial trailers for this one had me groaning. We were still pre-Birds of Prey movie so it was easy to assume the touchstone for this one was the first Suicide Squad movie, plus extreme cartoon violence and crudity. Well I was right about the second two! Turns out this is one of the smartest, most psychologically explorative of DC's vast back catalogue of superhero TV. Primarily because it is framed first as a relationship drama, second as a comedy and third as a DC world. But even with that lowered priority and an emphasis on wild chaos there is still the flavour of authenticity about the vast majority of the characters. This writing and production team have paid attention. And crucially, after teasing us with an early on meeting and lightning chemistry between Harley and Ivy in Batman: The Animated Series way back in 1993 we finally get to see them cultivate a close friendship onscreen... At least it *would* be ONLY a close friendship if this were Disney. So thank goodness it's not! For this episode we steer clear of serious spoilers until a dedicated section at the end, so even if you haven't seen any episodes you can listen to this.

With Harley Quinn season 3 dropping its first three episodes on HBO Max today, we had the chance to chat with co-creator, executive producer, and writer of the show Patrick Schumacker about the series. Patrick's other work include Abbot Elementary, Powerless, Surviving Jack, and the upcoming Harley Quinn spin off Noonan's. Be sure to check out this Harley Quinn interview before watching the new season. Harley Quinn is the first time we've gotten to see Harley and Ivy on screen as a couple which has made fans extremely happy. Patrick talks about the impact of being able to treat queer stories as they are as normal everyday things. Patrick talks about the reactions to this and the positive reactions the fans have had. But he also gets into what it was like before it was confirmed and how the fans treated the show and the team. The Harley Quinn show has given it's unique take on many well known characters in the DC Universe. Patrick talks about the ones he is most proud of but more so the one that he wasn't expecting to have as much staying power as they did. With television being a collaborative process, Patrick talks about how the writers (and Dan) want to keep one character the way he has been in the show. Season 3 brings in some familiar fan favorite characters from the DC Universe. The season has some more focus on the bat family with Nightwing finally making his appearance. We chat about the character and his interactions with the best Robin Damian Wayne. Patrick and Dan also talk about the vibes that the show's Swamp Thing gives off and his role in the show at large.
