ONSLAUGHT MOVIE REVIEW The director of You're Next and The Guest goes back to the action/horror style of his earlier works with Onslaught. The film follows Celeste (Adria Arjona) a super pissed-off single mom and ex-marine now managing a rundown trailer park in the middle of nowhere. # X-Men '97 Season 2 ReviewRC the Commission and co-host Sam Howe break down the highs and lows of X-Men '97 Season 2, from the show's crowded storytelling and uneven pacing to the emotional fallout around Magneto, Gambit, Rogue, and Wolverine. They also look ahead to Season 3, including where the series might go with Graydon Creed, Onslaught, Krakoa, and a more politically charged mutant conflict.## Key topics- In this episode, RC the Commission and Sam Howe give their overall Season 2 score and both settle on a mixed response, with Sam landing at a 6 out of 10.- They argue that the season felt wildly uneven, especially after the Wolverine standalone episode, which Sam calls the standout of the season.- They discuss how the season seemed to suffer from rewrites after Bo DeMeo's exit, including the possibility that an originally planned 10 episode season was cut down.- They compare Season 2 to Season 1, saying the first season worked better because it had decades of X-Men history to build on, while Season 2 had to build mostly from scratch.- They criticize the back half of the season for feeling overloaded, with too many characters and arcs competing for space, including Polaris, Danger, Gambit, Rogue, Storm, Weapon X, and X-Factor.- They talk about how the season often used characters as plot pieces rather than giving them meaningful development, especially Rogue, Storm, Mystique, and Graydon Creed.- They break down the Gambit storyline and say his return, sacrifice, and emotional payoff felt muddled despite the character's importance.- They praise Nightcrawler's trial scene with Graydon Creed as one of the best character moments of the season, especially for how it handled forgiveness and self hatred.- They say the show lost some of its political edge in the second half, with Graydon Creed's rise to power feeling rushed and underexplained.- They look ahead to Season 3 and expect the series to move toward a stronger mutant versus government conflict, possibly involving Krakoa, Onslaught, and a more adversarial Xavier and Cyclops dynamic.## Timestamps00:00 - Opening the Season 2 review and setting expectations 00:43 - First impressions and overall score 01:57 - Why Season 2 felt more crowded than Season 1 04:08 - Original plans for Onslaught, Polaris, and the Age of Apocalypse 06:05 - Rogue, Storm, and the emotional weight problem 07:31 - Why the Wolverine episode worked and where it fell short 09:24 - Death, resurrection, and why consequences felt cheap 11:31 - Story prioritization over character development 13:13 - The abandoned Onslaught setup and rewritten back half 16:35 - Xavier and Magneto as emotional subtext 18:35 - The season's weakened political viewpoint 20:55 - Graydon Creed, Val Cooper, and rushed government plotting 24:06 - Nightcrawler's standout trial scene 25:42 - Why Danger EXE was the weakest episode 27:48 - Too many new characters, too little time at the school 29:24 - Why Season 1 felt more specific and satisfying 31:18 - Where Season 3 could go from here 34:15 - Xavier and Cyclops as morally gray leaders 39:29 - Thoughts on casting and the MCU's mutant setup 41:34 - How Spider-Man: Brand New Day overstuffed its story 43:14 - Early casting reactions, including Adam Driver as Mr. Sinister 45:36 - Krakoa, Genosha, and the next mutant status quo 47:02 - Favorite part of the season: returning to the X-Men world 49:47 - Worst part of the season: lack of direction and consequence 51:17 - Why Gambit's arc was the biggest disappointment 52:44 - Favorite late-season moment: Xavier's attack on Apocalypse 53:47 - Why Season 3 needs to arrive faster and do more 55:07 - Closing thoughts and Patreon shoutout## Notable quotes> “It is a wildly uneven season.”> “The best writing is so specific that it becomes universal.”> “I need to go back and watch anything from my childhood.”

It's been five years since the Taliban regained control of Afghanistan, with catastrophic consequences for the rights of women and girls. From being unable to speak in public to being denied access to education, the Taliban are enforcing what the UN has called “gender apartheid”. Afghan women's rights activist Mahbouba Seraj and former Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction John Sopko join Christiane to discuss. Then, Venezuelan virtuoso Gustavo Dudamel takes the baton for one of the main acts at UK's annual classical music bonanza "The Proms". He joins the show to talk about his move to the LA Philharmonic and his reflections on Venezuela's tumultuous politics. And from neighbouring Colombia, CNN's David Culver reports from the ground on the devastation caused by Monday's earthquake, speaking to the volunteers bringing much-needed relief through heroic rescues. Plus, as social media firms brace for thousands of lawsuits over whether their products are designed to be addictive, we revisit Christiane's conversation with British House of Lords member Beeban Kidron about her book Users and how tech giants can be held to account. From the archive, we trace the breakdown of Afghan women's rights, from the Taliban's removal after 9/11 to their return following the chaotic withdrawal of US troops. Tom's on vacation, but the listener questions are not. In this packed Q&A episode, Don tackles one of the most common retirement dilemmas: if your Social Security and annuity income already cover your expenses, do you still need a traditional emergency fund? From there, the questions keep coming. Don weighs in on what to do with “lazy money” earning only 3%, whether a MYGA is really a better deal than a CD ladder, how to structure a taxable brokerage account for long-term growth, and where to keep nearly $300,000 set aside for a home purchase in the next two to three years. He also takes on a thoughtful question about managing a taxable portfolio for elderly in-laws who need additional income for memory care, and wraps up with a step-by-step explanation of how inherited IRA money can potentially be used to fund backdoor Roth contributions.Along the way, you'll hear why “guaranteed” doesn't always mean what insurance companies want you to think it means, why simplicity often beats ETF overengineering, and why liquidity still matters—even in retirement.0:05 – Intro and why Tom is getting buried in listener questions while on vacation1:14 – Don thanks listeners and mentions Apple featuring Litreading1:58 – How to send recorded questions at TalkingRealMoney.com2:16 – Question 1: Do retired investors still need a six-month emergency fund if Social Security and annuities cover expenses?3:14 – Why Don still favors stable, liquid emergency money even in retirement4:30 – Question 2: What should retirees do with “lazy money” that's earning only about 3%?5:28 – Don's preference for CD ladders over MYGAs and why “guaranteed” doesn't mean risk-free7:33 – Question 3: How should a high-income investor build a long-term taxable portfolio at Vanguard?10:03 – Don's case for simplifying with AVGE or DFAW instead of mixing multiple ETFs11:24 – Question 4: Is a five-year MYGA better than a five-year CD ladder?12:01 – Why Don still leans toward CDs despite the higher MYGA yield and tax deferral pitch14:16 – Question 5: Best place to keep $291,000 earmarked for a home purchase in two to three years14:46 – Money market vs. high-yield savings vs. CDs vs. BND for short-term house money17:04 – Question 6: How to structure a $300,000 taxable portfolio for elderly in-laws who need extra monthly income for memory care18:37 – Why Don would keep lots of liquidity, use only a little equity, and skip muni bonds in a 22% bracket20:50 – Question 7: Can inherited IRA proceeds be used to fund a backdoor Roth for both spouses?22:40 – Don's step-by-step answer, including opening new IRAs and watching out for the pro-rata rule25:07 – Don plugs The Line Uncrossed and offers a free one-hour advisor meeting25:42 – Reminder to send questions and be patient while Tom is on vacationQuestions? Things are getting weird this week on The Grave Plot Podcast. First up, we’ve got another helping of Real World Horror, where we discuss a Catholic exorcist who found himself in hot water after publicly suggesting that UFOs might actually be demons in disguise. Whether you believe in little green men, little red devils, or neither, it’s certainly one of the stranger stories we’ve covered lately. Then it’s time for Horror Business, where we strap on our proton packs for a brand new animated Ghostbusters series, venture back into the woods for yet another trip to visit the Blair Witch, and check out the latest from reunited power couple Adam Wingard and Simon Barrett, who appear ready to unleash absolute chaos with their upcoming action-horror hybrid Onslaught. We also take a look at Colony, the new infection nightmare from the director of Train to Busan, before capping things off with perhaps the most bonkers premise of the week: a Christmas-themed horror-action movie featuring a family, a cult-like obsession with the holidays, and a rogue badass Santa Claus. Then it’s review time. First, we head to a remote cabin for Over Your Dead Body, a darkly comedic bloodbath starring Jason Segel and Samara Weaving as a married couple whose romantic getaway goes spectacularly off the rails. After that, we venture into the misty Irish countryside with Hokum, the latest supernatural chiller from Oddity director Damian McCarthy, blending folklore, grief, and creeping dread into one unsettling package. Between murderous spouses and haunted legends, we’ve got plenty to dig into this week. So grab that special someone, bring ’em in tight, and settle in for another episode of The Grave Plot Podcast!

This was James' first ever drum related interview! James discusses his musical journey starting from childhood when his father, also a drummer, introduced him to the instrument, with early influences coming from Metallica and Iron Maiden. We explored James's approach to double bass drum technique, including his preference for two bass drums over a double pedal, and his training methods that treat speed work like gym training with focused sets rather than long, slow practice sessions. Our conversation covers James's experience playing with Onslaught, particularly the challenges of learning songs like "Chaos is King" that required playing up to 220 BPM, and his recent work filling in for the black metal band Anaal Nathrakh playing songs at 220-250 BPM. We also discussed the differences between recording with modern click-based production versus the lo-fi sound of older thrash records.Follow James on Instagram at: www.instagram.com/perrymasondrummerI hope you enjoy this free episode, please subscribe to the podcast via your podcast provider & YouTube, like and review where you can and share with anyone else who might be interested. If you've enjoyed any of my episodes, please consider joining my Patreon community via Patreon at http://www.patreon.com/drumforthesong/ for access to exclusive content, group video calls, competitions, giveaways plus 20% discount at http://www.motorhead-beer.comI'd like to give a special thanks to my top-tier 'Legend' and 'Groove Master' Patrons for their extended support.
