There is a crater in Turkmenistan that burns constantly. Because of this, it has a very ominous appearance, it has earned the name The Gates of Hell. While that is a bit of an overstatement, the continual burning is more reminiscent of hell than anything here on earth. Things that burn eventually go out. Including torches. The five foolish women in our passage know this, yet fail to act. Are we headed for their fate?

The parable of the ten virgins was shared by Jesus to help people to see what the kingdom of heaven will be like on the day of his return. Nathan shares how knowing and being known by Christ is the difference between being prepared or unprepared on that day.

Pastor Ben explains Matthew 25 1:13 by showing us how a Jewish Wedding works. The wise bridesmaids had oil in their lamps when the Bridegroom came for His Bride. They were ready as we should be for our Lord's eminent return! Do you know what it means to "follow" Jesus? Due to social media, in today's society, the word "follow" means to simply press a button and "become a fan" of someone. But to "Follow Jesus" means something totally different. "Following Jesus" means to read and study the Word of God, and apply what we learn from the Word of God to our every day lives; to love people in the same manner that Jesus loves people. How do we live well while we wait for Jesus to return? The answers to this question have been all over the board throughout history, but Jesus does give us some solid advice in how to do it well. Matthew 24 and 25 share with us truths about following Jesus completely and sharing the good news (that Jesus loves everyone and wants to be in relationship with everyone!) with those around us.
Are you living prepared for today or tomorrow? How about for eternity? We kick off a new series with special guest, Grant Skeldon, who shares a message of hope and practical ways we can live today preparing for eternity.
Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Charleston, SC, seeks to be a church that's Becoming Community in Christ. Our assistant pastor Rev. John Song preaches from Matthew 25:1-13 about how expecting Christ's return leads to bearing the fruit of preparation.
Spiritually Fit to the end
Spiritually Fit to the end
5. Quelles applications pouvons-nous faire de cette parabole?
To be prepared means to be ready to do something. We have become emergency responders rather than being prepared. We wait until the water has risen before we become concerned enough to act. When the warnings go out, we rush to the grocery store to get whatever we can and call ourselves prepared. The world looks at people who stock up on supplies as alarmists. Being prepared does not mean that we need to be hoarders or doomsday-minded. Being prepared means planning and respond ahead of time. Too often we live our spiritual life in the same way. Being faithful to the house of God, to pray and seek God daily is the spiritual way of being prepared. The bible tells us that He is coming back to claim His bride, but have we grown weary in the waiting? We have heard all our lives that Jesus is coming soon. Many have lived their entire lives anticipating the return, only to live and die without His return. The parable from our text tonight of the ten virgins with the lamps is a familiar one. If the situation were different, the five wise virgins might have shared their oil, but given the impending arrival of the bridegroom, they could not risk sharing then. There will come a day when we can no longer share what we have with the unprepared because there will not be enough for us and them.
