Today I speak with Amanda Stulman, director of Keep Prisons Single Sex USA. In response to the anti-woman organization GLAAD's recent campaign and letter demanding the NYTimes stick to the almighty "pro-trans affirmation" narrative, Amanda Stulman launched her own campaign with LED billboards displaying a series of slides one of which read: "That's right, women's prisons are mixed-sex. This is newsworthy, is it not?" Amanda discusses the justice system's role in the legalization of medicalizing children, placing men in women's prisons and what happens when the courts abandon all common sense in the name of "trusting the experts." We also get into the challenges of advocating for women's sex-based rights with no institutional legacy support and what amends could look like for NYTimes in the wake of years of gaslighting, underreporting crimes against women and villianizing those who dare to speak out. “The reason for failure this go around would not be because of my failure as an operator. It wouldn’t be because I didn’t make the right choices or because I wasn’t proactive. It’s because there was a global pandemic that flattened the world.” Gabriel Stulman, the Founder of Happy Cooking Hospitality in New York, originally planned on becoming a high school history teacher. After working multiple jobs at local bars and restaurants in his college town, he quickly fell in love with the industry and the community that he built within it. Now, Stulman owns and operates restaurants across New York City including: Jeffrey’s Grocery, Joseph Leonard, Bar Sardine, Fairfax, Fedora, The Jones, George Washington Bar, Simon & The Whale and Studio at The Freehand. Gabriel has been vocal about issues that he’s facing as a business owner during the Coronavirus Pandemic, including the challenges around commercial leases and obtaining loans. In this episode, we cover everything from Gabriel’s early beginnings to issues with the PPP loans to feeding NYC’s frontline workers. Episode 114 I think one of my favorite parts of this episode with Emily Stulmen Klein is that moment of realizing you are choosing your life. Emily's realization and subsequent lessons and life choices are the epitome of recognition of your own responsibility in your own life. Not only that, she is so much fun, raucous and irreverent. My favorite type! Emily Stulman Klein, founder of Live a Joyful Life, is a Joyologist (positivity expert + joyful life coach), author and chef. Emily’s 25 years of experience in personal development and fulfillment have made her an authority on helping women (and heart-centered men) to stop comparing and start living even when life doesn’t look like the brochure. Emily works with clients both live and virtually, one to one and in groups. Emily lives in Montclair, NJ with her 12 year old daughter, their large brown dog and small gray bunny. Jeremiah: Exegesis and Theology

Continue to explore Jeremiah's laments or "confessions". Reventlow (1963) related that Jeremiah's "I" represented the "personification of the community". Subsequently the focus shifted to the "paradigmatic force of Jeremiah's suffering", became a model for exiles and repatriates and there was a re-calibration of suffering. Consider Welten (1977) and that suffering is no longer "shameful, resulting directly from wrongdoing . . . but rather as a typical part of life." (Stulman) A. R. Diamond and K. M. O'Connor took into account the contextual and literary setting. Consider meaning of Sitz im Buch. Explore that the laments used by the interpretive community were to demonstrate the guilt of the people, the necessity of exile, and theodicy. Stulman states in Abingdon Old Testament Commentaries: Jeremiah, " ...they portray Judah's hardship and misfortune as a consequence of its mistreatment and rejection of Jeremiah, God's spokesperson.” Explore the elements of Jeremiah's Confessions including the invocation or mention of God, the speech of enemies, the declaration of innocence, request for vengeance, and in three of the five laments, the divine answer which is implicit in 17:14-18, 18:18-23, and 20:7-13.
