What if technology could finally make them visible? That's where Pawel Osterreicher, CEO and co-founder of Respo.Vision, is driving change. From his early days at BCG to building one of the most advanced tracking systems in sport, his mission has been clear: turn the invisible layers of movement and intention into understanding. In this special episode of LeCorner, hosted by our CSO Jean-Baptiste Alliot, Pawel shares how Respo.Vision, one of our partner companies, uses AI, computer vision, and LLMs while reshaping sports analytics, making 3D tracking and cognitive insights accessible beyond elite setups.Together, they explore how Respo.Vision is redefining the boundaries of sports data, delivering 3D tracking, player orientation, and cognitive insights from a single camera feed. Welcome to the fifth series in the annual podcast programme from Academic Archers, bringing you papers from our 2024 conference. This episode brings together four papers from the session The Ambridge Family, exploring queerness, grief, education, and money in village life. The Only Gay in the Village? Queer(y)ing Family in Rural Borsetshire - Peter MatthewsThe Archers has long been rooted in the heteronormative nuclear family, with drama created when norms are broken. This paper explores how the show “queers” family life: from Adam and Ian's surrogacy with Lexi and Adam's relationships with Pawel and Charlie, to Helen choosing to have a child outside heterosexual partnership. It also considers how the housing crisis forces new family forms and how the intimacy of the programme allows negotiations of gender roles, such as Harrison reducing his hours while Fallon works more – and, of course, Pip and Stella.About the speakerProfessor Peter Matthews is Professor of Social Policy at the University of Stirling. His research focuses on equality, diversity and social justice.A Tractor and Family Overturned: The Death of John Archer and Its Ongoing Implications - Deborah Miller and Meg BurtonJohn Archer's death continues to reverberate through Bridge Farm. This paper explores how the loss of an adult child affects surviving parents and siblings, focusing on Helen and Tom.It considers how the tragedy changed their roles and shaped their self-esteem, drawing on grief theory, developmental psychology, and the risks of PTSD. Helen's behaviours and Tom's drive to ‘replace' his brother reveal how this event still haunts Ambridge.About the speakersDeborah Miller has a professional background in health and local government, and has presented multiple Academic Archers papers.Meg Burton brings both personal and professional perspectives to grief, trauma, and family life in Ambridge.Mia and Brad Are Doing Four A Levels: Will Widening Participation in Higher Education Finally Hit Ambridge? - Janette MyersUniversity has been rare, and fraught, for Ambridge residents. This paper asks whether Mia and Brad might break new ground, tracking educational life chances in the village and comparing them with national patterns. It also considers whether informal learning – such as Tracy's discovery of Lark Rise to Candleford – or Borchester College might shift opportunities, and what this says about class, aspiration and higher education.About the speakerDr Janette Myers is an Open University academic specialising in widening participation. She has listened to The Archers for over 45 years.Ant to come next week, though it was part of this session - Looking After the Penny Hassets So the Pounds Look After Themselves - Katherine Jennings and Vikki Barry BrownMoney is everywhere in Ambridge, but rarely spoken of openly. This paper explores how financial norms, taboos and silences mirror English cultural attitudes. From inherited wealth to debt, employment to entrepreneurship, money shapes status and relationships. Themes of shame, aspiration and social standing reveal how the programme presents financial lives to its audience.About the speakersVikki Barry Brown leads qualitative research at behavioural science consultancy CogCo and is completing her PhD in Human Geography at Queen Mary University of London.Katherine Jennings is Director of the Talking Taboos Foundation and a social researcher with Common Collective, focusing on taboo issues and behaviour change. If you enjoy our work and would like to support Aca

In this episode of Manufacturing Hub, we welcome back Pawel Krupa, founder of the Future Robotics YouTube channel, to dive deep into the rapidly evolving world of industrial robotics. With over a decade of hands-on experience integrating and programming systems from Fanuc, KUKA, and others, Pawel shares exclusive insights on some of the biggest changes reshaping robotics in 2025. These changes are not just cosmetic updates; they are being driven by new ISO standards and increasing cybersecurity requirements across industrial automation. We explore the hardware and software changes coming to Fanuc's R-50iA cabinet, including multiple Ethernet ports, enhanced vision systems with built-in lighting, and a groundbreaking integration of Python for native robot programming. KUKA is also undergoing a major transformation with its KC5 slim cabinet and KUKA iiQ OS, a Linux-based control system with new UI, simulation environments, and plug-and-play capabilities. These updates signify a paradigm shift where robots become not only smarter and safer, but far easier to configure, maintain, and upgrade. The conversation expands into one of the most talked-about frontiers in robotics: humanoid robots. Are they just hype or do they have a real role to play in industrial environments? We assess the business case for humanoids, especially in facilities where traditional automation has been financially unjustifiable. From handling tasks like herb sorting in food production to stepping into high-risk environments, humanoids may soon bridge the automation gap in low-throughput, labor-intensive workflows. We also explore how AI is influencing robot deployment, from edge vision systems to cycle time optimization. Pawel outlines how drag-and-drop AI-powered tools are slashing development time for vision systems from hours to minutes, while also lowering the barrier to entry for those without years of machine vision experience. Vision systems that used to require complex calibration and scripting are now being trained on real-time images or CAD models, making robotic integration faster and more accessible than ever. Finally, we close with actionable startup ideas and a bold look into the future of collaborative robots, AI, and hybrid ecosystems of humanoids and industrial arms working side-by-side. If you're in automation, manufacturing, or considering a robotics venture, this episode is packed with strategic insight, technical knowledge, and forward-thinking ideas you won't want to miss.

In this episode, we dive into the phenomenon of the "feature factory," where companies focus more on releasing products and features rapidly rather than prioritizing quality or user needs. John Cutler coined the term, and it perfectly captures the feeling many teams face: launching features without a clear understanding of who they're for or how they impact the business. If this resonates with you, keep listening as we explore how to break free from this cycle. In our panel discussion, we hear from three product leaders—Aakash Gupta, Andrea Saez, and Paweł Huryn—who share their insights on shifting from output-focused to outcome-driven product development. They offer actionable frameworks for maintaining strategic focus, addressing mid-market pressures, and fostering a culture that values meaningful outcomes over sheer feature volume. Whether you're scaling a business or trying to reignite your team's creativity, this conversation offers practical advice for escaping the feature factory mindset.Resources from this episode:Subscribe to The Product Manager newsletterConnect with Aakash, Paweł, and Andrea on LinkedInCheck out The Product Growth Newsletter, The Product Compass Newsletter, and The Product Momentum Gap

The leading theory for learning and memorization in the brain is that learning is provided by synaptic learning rules and memories stored in synaptic weights between neurons. But this is for long-term memory. What about short-term, or working, memory where objects are kept in memory for only a few seconds?  The traditional theory held that here the mechanism is different, namely persistent firing of select neurons in areas such as prefrontal cortex. But this view is challenged by recent synapse-based models explored by today's guest and others.

Originally published in Polish in 2019 by The Lethe Foundation, Humanism As Realism: Three Essays Concerning the Thought of Paul Elmer More and Irving Babbitt (St. Augustine's Press, 2023) demonstrates the relevance and importance of Paul Elmer More (1864-1937) and Irving Babbitt (1865-1933). Their collective legacy is one of responsible and truly thoughtful living. Their treatment of Humanists and their diagnosis of modernity is an important theme in this work, and the indication of the political consequences of humanism. This is a protreptic book. Its main goal is to encourage people to undertake independent studies or more generally, simply to think independently. If we want to think for ourselves, and not like preprogrammed humanoids, we can't do so in a vacuum. We have to lean on something. In the Author's view, the more than century-old writings of Paul Elmer More and Irving Babbitt are perfectly suited to the role of such a support for us, living in the here and now. They make it possible for us to dig ourselves out from underneath the heaps of opinions, "principles" or "theories" that allegedly can't be rejected, that we're obliged to follow, but that have a paralyzing and dumbing-down effect on us, making our lives from the outset seems like the dream of a childish old man.
