Today's episode is one I've really been looking forward to because we're diving into something that's transforming the way we think about mental health treatment: low-dose ketamine therapy. My guest, Dr. Sharon Niv, is the co-founder of Joyous, a public benefit company helping make this kind of care more accessible and affordable than ever before. Sharon brings a fascinating background in cognitive psychology, meditation, and technology, and she's helping bridge the gap between neuroscience and therapy in a way that's incredibly gentle, safe, and empowering for both clients and clinicians. We'll talk about what makes psycholytic, or low-dose, ketamine different from traditional psychedelic experiences, how it can enhance the therapeutic process, and how you, as a therapist, can get trained to integrate it into your own work. This is one of those conversations that opens your mind to what's possible in therapy, so let's jump in. Dr. Niv earned her Ph.D. in Brain and Cognitive Science from the University of Southern California, where she conducted research on EEG biomarkers, neurofeedback, and the neural underpinnings of mood and behavior. She also holds a B.A. in Molecular and Cellular Biology from UC Berkeley and an M.A. in Clinical and Cognitive Psychology from USC. Before founding Joyous, Sharon worked on developing virtual-reality interventions for chronic pain and neurofeedback programs designed to help people improve emotional regulation and resilience. A long-time meditation practitioner, she combines scientific rigor with a deep understanding of mindfulness and experiential learning. Through Joyous, Sharon and her team are pioneering low-dose (psycholytic) ketamine therapy, creating safer, more sustainable pathways for individuals and therapists to experience healing and insight. Downpours were taken in stride as the rain was most welcomed and it literally and figuratively did not dampen the mood.Farm chores for winter begun.  Acorn will be "out of service" from Thanksgiving to Christmas as she will be getting a new left hip.  Much to get prepared so Blind Hog can coast through- might be a few weeks before Acorn can get up to the barns.

We explore joyous effort - not striving, but the enlivening energy that arises when we understand the value of what we're doing. We touch the thin places of life, the courage to continue, the practice of rest, and Janet's beautiful line: who are we being in our doing?Janet's newest book, How Joyous Effort Works, draws on the eighth-century teachings of Shantideva (The Bodhisattva's Way of Life), translated into contemporary stories you can feel in your bones. How do we get joy? Ecclesiastes 5:18–20 looks forward to the call to worship in public worship on the coming Lord's Day. In these three verses of Holy Scripture, the Holy Spirit teaches us that joy is a gift that God adds to His other gifts. The devotional draws from Ecclesiastes 5:18–20 to affirm that life's joys—eating, drinking, and labor—are not meaningless but truly good and meaningful when received as gifts from God. It emphasizes that even in a short, toilsome life shaped by the fall, God's goodness in ordinary experiences is a sacred blessing. The passage teaches us to receive wealth and labor, not as achievements of human effort, but as gifts from God. True joy arises from recognizing our good things as our portions from Him, and the joy itself is its own, separate gift. This frees believers from anxiety over life's brevity, as God sustains them with joy, preventing undue dwelling on mortality. Ultimately, the message calls for a life lived in continual gratitude, where every good thing is received in worship and delight, reflecting a heart transformed by grace and anchored in eternal hope.

Leonora Carrington was a prodigious artist closely associated with major surrealists of the 1930s. Though only sporadically in print until recently, her writing has helped cement her cult status, not least The Hearing Trumpet (1974). Before her family consign her to an old-age facility, nonagenarian Marian Leatherby is gifted a hearing trumpet with almost magical capabilities. Her institutionalisation leads to much eavesdropping, a Grail quest, descent into the underworld and an apocalyptic ice age. Joyous, disturbing and subversive, The Hearing Trumpet is full of themes and images that populate Carrington's artwork and other writing. Both Marina and Chloe knew Leonora Carrington, and in this episode they reflect on the ways her personality inflected her work. Their reading of The Hearing Trumpet reveals her humour, her visionary imagination and her attention to the boundaries between inner and outer realties. From being a successful luxury homebuilder to falling into addiction, homelessness, crime, and eventually 27 mugshots and prison, my life was in absolute chaos.Addiction was my temporary escape from childhood trauma, but it only led to destruction. It wasn't until I hit the lowest point imaginable that I finally found true freedom, redemption, and purpose. After an unexpected early release from prison in 2017, I walked 300 miles back to Dallas to turn myself in—only to be miraculously pardoned and told to “pay it forward.”And that's exactly what I've been doing ever since. My MissionI believe that rock bottom is not the end—it's a stepping stone to something greater. My goal is to redefine what "rock bottom" means by helping others rebuild their Spirit, Mind, and Body. Some jobs are harder than others and some bring more joy than others. This sermon, called "A Difficult but Joyous Mission," looks at Luke 10:1-24. In this passage Jesus sends some of his followers on a mission. It is a difficult mission and he warns them that they might struggle along the way. But ultimately he reminds them that God is the one in charge of their mission. As they step out in faith to spread the gospel, they experience great joy! We look at how we still face the difficulties of this mission and how we need to be reminded of the joy to be found for those willing to serve and the comfort of knowing God is sovereignly in control of the outcome of this difficult, but joyous mission.

This Sunday, as we celebrate Mother's Day, we honor the women who have given us life, love, and the courage to grow. Mothers, godmothers, and spiritual mothers reflect the very heart of God—nurturing life, forming souls, and offering love that is selfless, steadfast, and strong. In their sacrifices, we see the Cross. In their tenderness, the love of Christ. In their faith, the quiet power that builds the Church. Today, we give thanks for every woman who has poured out her life so that others might flourish in hope and holiness. Whether near or far, here or remembered in heaven, we celebrate you on this Joyous day. And we lift up in prayer all women who guide, protect, and lead with grace. May you be surrounded by peace and gratitude.

Sunday April 13, 2025: Pastor Matt teaches from the familiar narrative of Jericho's walls falling, but from the lens of joyful waiting. Waiting in our culture has always been seen as a test, proving to God we're worth a breakthrough, or earning our blessings; when in fact the waiting is about our hearts being braided to Abba's. When you're in a season called "waiting", see it through the lens of sonship and allow His joy to infuse strength.

April 6, 2025: Pastor Matt teaches the significant distinction between how slaves pray compared to how sons do. Sons, even in a moment of what appears as not enough, are so convinced of Abba's care they soak their prayers in gratitude and expectation. What would our prayer lives look like if we saw all the waiting through the confident lens of sonship?

The best adventures are often found when we embrace curiosity. That's a lesson that Tamron Hall has learned in her storied career as a cultural icon, Emmy-winning talk show host, and broadcast journalist, as well as in her role as a young parent to a son with a shy but investigative nature to explore the world around him. In today's conversation, Tamron talks to Jen and Amy about that curiosity and why it is a trait that should be celebrated and nurtured, both in our children and in ourselves. They talk about the many cultural treasures that already exist right in our own neighborhoods, if we open ourselves up to the beauty of exploring new places and faces. And, Tamron also shares details with Amy and Jen about her latest labor of love, the children's book that she just released called Harlem Honey: The Adventures of a Curious Kid, an endearing story inspired by her real-life son and his adventure visiting Harlem's most iconic spots, learning a valuable lesson about the meaning of home. *** Thought-provoking Quotes: Things that are authentic tend to come easy but that doesn't mean that the process isn't challenging. – Tarmron Hall As adults, through our urgency, we can rush our children through great opportunities of curiosity. – Tamron Hall I was very worried when my son presented as shy. Shy kids, especially boys, can be steeped into tropes and stereotypes of what a shy kid is. It forced me to talk more openly about my own social anxieties. – Tamron Hall The best of my journey as a reporter was opening my eyes to the cultural difference and nuances of neighborhoods. – Tamron Hall Storytelling is something that we all have the ability to do. When you tell it from your heart and from an authentic space, it can resonate. It transcends gender, economics. It transcends everything. – Tamron Hall Resources Mentioned in This Episode: Prince - https://www.prince.com/ The Tamron Hall Show - https://tamronhallshow.com/ Jen Hatmaker Gets Real About Healing After Divorce on The Tamron Hall Show - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fkm0RqfRYMI As the Wicked Watch: The First Jordan Manning Novel by Tamron Hall - https://amzn.to/4hnc8qn Harlem Honey: The Adventures of a Curious Kid by Tarmron Hall - https://amzn.to/4hJEuea Deadline: Crime With Tamron Hall - https://www.investigationdiscovery.com/show/deadline-crime-with-tamron-hall-investigation-discovery The TODAY Show - https://www.today.com/ Sisterwives Tell All - https://www.tlc.com/shows/sister-wives/episodes/sister-wives-tell-all Ebony Glenn, Illustrator - https://www.ebonyglenn.com/ 100 Mighty Dragons All Named Broccoli by David LaRochelle - https://amzn.to/4jOvGFz Are You There God?
