Two Hearts and One Braincell: Cassidy Carson & JT Hume Amateur Hour

Let's talk about Lawrence Kasdan's 1981 salute to the film noir genre: Body Heat. William Hurt plays a lustful, and frankly not very bright, lawyer who gets seduced into murdering a rich woman's husband, only to discover he may have been the one being played all along. Kathleen Turner is the femme fatale who uses her body to turn off Hurt's upper brain to have him do her bidding. We saw this film in 1981 and in 2026, and it hit us differently in our sixties than it did when we first saw it during another Carson City heat wave. In fact, we didn't finish it last night. We explain why. As an aside, we thoroughly spoil this forty-five year old classic. We toured three local independant books stores: Thistle and Nightshade, Between the Covers, and Bub's Bookstore. We had fun and we spent money. Hi everyone! August is a Fallow Month for us, and so we are dialing back on some of our activities while we focus our attention on coursework production, curriculum development, and - most importantly - hands-on herbalism in the field, kitchen, and apothecary. If you don't know or don't remember what a Fallow Month is, listen to the full explanation in episode 212! Or if you'd prefer some reading, check out Katja's piece If You Really Want to Learn Herbalism, Stop Studying. This week we're airing a replay of episode 274: Thorn Medicine.Have you ever wished you had thorns? Have you ever felt like you needed to protect your heart, your space, your peace of mind, or your time from a world that asks too much of you – or takes without asking? You're not alone. This is what thorn medicine can bring you.Thorns aren't weapons, they're defenses. They don't seek an animal or human out with the intent to cause harm, they hold space and define boundaries. Touch me here, says the rose, but not there. Admire my flowers, says the motherwort, but don't you dare clutch my seeds. We can learn from this.We can take the medicine of thorns into ourselves. We can do this literally, not only (oh, “only”!) metaphorically or symbolically. Most all thorny herbs, and particularly the thorns themselves, carry a key herbal action: astringency. This is an action which literally pulls things together, and holds things together. Each plant's thorn is different, serving its own purpose. Hawthorn's long, widely spaced thorns evolved to counter the hungers of the giant sloth, and they retain that shape long after the lumbering herbivore went extinct: they are the living memory of a predator past. Ocotillo's inexhaustible rows of spines render it no more easy a prey than the cactus who share its landscape. Thistle spikes out from every possible surface, asserting itself in all directions as its firework flowers reach for the sky. Which thorns are yours?Pull yourself together. Hold your boundaries. Make a safe space. Then, within that thorn-walled refuge, your flowers will unfold.Thorn medicine is only one form of support herbs can offer our emotions. Our Neurological & Emotional Health course is a user's guide to your nerves, your emotions, and the herbs who can lift you, hold you, brace you, and sustain you. We teach holistic herbal strategies for addressing both neurological & psychological health issues. It includes a lengthy discussion of herbal pain management strategies, too!Like all our offerings, this is a self-paced online video course, which comes with free access to twice-weekly live Q&A sessions, lifetime access to current & future course material, twice-weekly live Q&A sessions with us, open discussion threads integrated in each lesson, an active student community, study guides, quizzes & capstone assignments, and more!If you have a moment, it would help us a lot if you could subscribe, rate, & review our podcast wherever you listen. In this Bible Story, we learn about the rule of Amaziah. He defeats a great threat, but grows arrogant and pompous. The Lord humbles Amaziah in the battle against Israel, and dies in exile. Go to https://www.BibleinaYear.com and learn the Bible in a Year.Today's Bible verse is 2 Chronicles 25:18 from the King James Version.Episode 145: The people of God needed a strong, courageous, godly King, and Uzziah provided that hope for the people. The young man was sixteen when he sat on the throne, and he sought God for wisdom just like Solomon did. He leaned on this wisdom of his elders and held the word of the prophet close. He sought God, fought battles against the Philistines, and gained the respect of the nations around him. However, as the stories about him grew, so did his ego. And in his arrogance, he walked into the temple of God without a priest and began to burn incense, as if he were a priest, beginning his downfall.Hear the Bible come to life as Pastor Jack Graham leads you through the official BibleinaYear.com podcast. Thistle Resources Inc. CEO Patrick Cruikshank joined Steve Darling from Proactive to discuss the start of the company's 2026 antimony trenching program at its flagship Brunswick Antimony Project in New Brunswick's renowned Bathurst Mining Camp. The trenching campaign is focused on exposing the granite-sediment contact, the geological boundary that hosts the project's antimony mineralization. Excavation has been completed at the initial trench by Doucet Excavation, with work targeting both the main mineralized zone and the key structural contact to better define the extent of the mineralized system. Cruickshank said 10 samples have already been collected from Trench Area #1, representing several styles of antimony mineralization, including disseminated mineralization, massive blebs, and quartz vein-hosted material. Previous work also identified extensive silicification and quartz veining associated with the mineralized zones. Once trench mapping and channel sampling are complete, the structural information will help determine the orientation of the mineralized contact and guide the placement of future drill holes, improving the efficiency of the upcoming exploration program. While the Brunswick Project shares geological similarities with the nearby Lake George antimony deposit, management believes it stands apart because of its precious metals potential. Previous certified assays returned values of up to 2.32 g/t gold and 1,300 g/t silver, highlighting the project's multi-metal opportunity alongside antimony. #proactiveinvestors #thistleressources #tsxv #trcg #MiningIssuer #Antimony #CriticalMinerals #Gold #Silver #BathurstMiningCamp #MineralExploration #MiningNews #NewBrunswickMining #ResourceDevelopment

When the northern ten tribes vanished into Assyria and the walls of Jerusalem were leveled to dust by Babylon, it wasn't a failure of God's power—it was the tragic consequence of an unfaithful people. If you feel like the cultural walls are breaking down around you today, this study of the Scattering of Israel reveals exactly how to find your spiritual anchor. Summary: In this sobering deep dive into 2 Kings 14–25, we look at the historical collapse of both Israel and Judah, tracing the long line of kings who ignored the warnings of the prophets until there was no remedy left. By analyzing these final chapters of the history of the divided kingdoms, we discover the tragic steps of apostasy and the beautiful moments of temporary restoration under righteous leaders. The Thistle and the Cedar: We analyze the pride of King Amaziah and how minor victories can trick us into overestimating our own strength, leading to devastating vulnerability. The Destruction of Nehushtan: We study King Hezekiah's bold iconoclasm, where he smashed the very bronze serpent Moses made because the people had turned a signpost into an idol. Learn to never confuse the means with the end. Psychological Warfare at the Wall: We break down Rab-shakeh's terrifying speech outside Jerusalem and why the best response to the modern world's mocking is often to "hold your peace" and let God fight your battles. Wiping the Dish: We confront the terrifyingly visual imagery of God wiping Jerusalem like a dish and turning it upside down, seeing how structural neglect leads to spiritual collapse. Finding the Book of the Law: We follow the 8-year-old King Josiah as he repairs the temple breaches, discovers lost scripture, and humbles himself before Huldah the prophetess to launch a total national restoration. The Babylonian Captivity: We witness the final fall of Zedekiah, the breaking of Solomon's pillars, and the carrying away of the temple vessels—realizing that even when we are scattered, the covenant is never completely forgotten. Call-to-Action: Hezekiah smashed a sacred relic because it started getting in the way of true worship. What is the "Nehushtan" or distraction in your life that you need to break to clear your view of the Savior? Let's build a meaningful dialogue in the comments.

DJ PhoeniXX is back! Thanks for tuning into another women's music hour with Phoenixx! This month's hour centers women who protect and defend that which is precious to us; that which we have nurtured and sustained, to include our own lives as well as the lives of our sisters, families, animals and the planet. If you tuned into Thistle's roundtable discussion of the political Lesbian ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TMjjif6Rjqo), this music hour will be an enlivening follow up as Phoenixx features music and spoken word about both Lesbians and non-Lesbians who are fierce in their devotion to Female kind in the midst of misogyny and fascism. The energy and existence of The Amazon has an ancient cultural record: some that has been preserved and discovered by archaeologists and archeomythologists like the late Marija Gimbutas; much has been kept alive by Max Dashu's archival research (www.suppressedhistories.net) while some herstory of Amazon existence has just persisted through stories/fantasies of tribes of ferocious women. Women's Culture and Spirituality must remember and include The Amazon to be both Radically effective and reflective of our lived experience and realities. The work of Second Wave Radical Lesbian Feminists reignited these fires in the 1970s which have been, in most feminist and spiritual circles, currently watered down with the use of the word feminine to describe women or the divinity of female spiritual power. Typically the fight/warrior/protector roles and ferocity under/in patriarchy have been reserved for men, with the exception of the expectation of mothers for their children. Implicit in that is, of course, girls and women need to be mothers in order to be sanctioned strong. The rest of us... well…you know those particular heinous insults and the prominence of compulsory heterosexuality. Phoenixx has chosen dynamic music to accompany excerpts of a chapter on The Amazon read from The Wheel of the Year as a Spiritual Psychology for Women written by Radical Lesbian Feminist Dr. Kim Duckett. You can find more information about her, her work and how to order her book here: http://www.kimduckett.org/. Enjoy the hour! Stay tuned later this Summer for the top 100 Women's Music results!

Confessions of a Grieving Mother

Type of loss: Early-term losses, Ectopic Pregnancy, Chemical Pregnancy, Blighted OvumMore about this story: In this episode of Confessions of a Grieving Mother, Julie talks with Heather to share a story that spans infertility, pregnancy loss, medical trauma, and the complicated, enduring hope that lives alongside grief.Heather and her husband Brian were first diagnosed with unexplained infertility at age 30, beginning a journey where grief arrived long before any loss—grief over the inability to conceive freely, over the uncertainty of waiting, and over watching others experience pregnancies that felt out of reach. After multiple rounds of treatment, they finally conceived, only to experience an ectopic pregnancy and the devastating loss of their baby, Thistle, in a medical emergency that turned joy into trauma in an instant. What followed was a long and complicated path through IVF, embryo transfers, and repeated heartbreak. Heather shares the story of their embryos, their “double rainbow” boys born after loss, and the fragile hope that came with each attempt to grow their family. Along the way, she experienced multiple miscarriages—including the losses of Rowan, Hazel, Willow, and Sage—each one carrying its own weight of grief, questions, and longing.Through it all, Heather speaks honestly about the emotional toll of repeated loss, the strain on her body and spirit, and the moments where she questioned whether she would ever be able to bring a baby safely into her arms again.

Interview with Gary Lohman, COO & VP Exploration, and Patrick J. Cruickshank, President & CEO of Thistle ResourcesRecording date: 20th May 2026Thistle Resources Inc., a recently listed explorer on the TSX Venture Exchange, is positioning itself at the crossroads of rising demand for gold and critical minerals through a diversified portfolio in Canada's Bathurst Mining Camp. The company controls five projects, with a strategic focus on three key assets: the Middle River Gold deposit, a large volcanogenic massive sulfide (VMS) target, and the high-grade Brunswick Antimony project. This multi-commodity approach reduces reliance on a single resource while offering multiple pathways for value creation. The flagship Middle River Gold project demonstrates strong scale potential. It hosts two distinct zones: a near-surface system extending to 130 meters depth with approximately 7 kilometers of mineralized folding—largely untested—and a deeper zone at 400 meters that exhibits one of the strongest geophysical conductive responses recorded in the region. Early drilling has confirmed consistent gold mineralization, while advanced surveys by two independent geophysical firms have significantly improved targeting confidence. The company is aiming to define a resource of up to 2 million ounces through systematic drilling.Equally compelling is the Brunswick Antimony project, որտեղ exceptionally high-grade mineralization occurs at surface, including antimony exceeding 10%, along with significant silver and gold values. Located near historic producing mines, the project benefits from existing infrastructure and growing geopolitical interest in securing non-Chinese sources of critical minerals. Antimony prices have surged in recent years, enhancing the project's economic potential even at modest scale.Operationally, Thistle benefits from a favorable jurisdiction with rapid permitting, strong infrastructure, and low drilling costs of roughly CAD 100 per meter. Fully funded for two years and equipped with active drill programs through 2026, the company is well positioned to advance its assets. With multiple catalysts ahead and exposure to both precious and critical minerals, Thistle represents a diversified exploration opportunity in a proven mining district.View Thistle Resources' company profile: https://www.cruxinvestor.com/companies/thistle-resourcesSign up for Crux Investor: https://cruxinvestor.com

The focus of this month's show is the Jeffrey Epstein case and how it is being handled within the porn-sick society we live in, featuring Gail Dines—expert, activist for women's and children's rights, and founding member of Culture Reframed. Gail recently published a review in Ms. Magazine of Virginia Roberts Giuffre's posthumous book, Nobody's Girl. https://msmagazine.com/author/gaildines/ She talks with Thistle a bit about this book and about how the porn industry has gotten its tentacles into all aspects of American society. She also, at the end of the interview, tells the story of an activist skit performed with Mary Daly at Harvard University in the 1980s. She muses that if women could do it then, we can do it again today and should in order to fortify our movement for the dignity and rights of girls and women. Clare Campbell, a trailblazing Highlander renowned for her innovation in the weaving and designer clothes industry, is driven by a deep passion for authenticity and identity. Clare's remarkable journey began in 1978, when she was born in Inverness, the Highland capital of Scotland. With two younger brothers, Clare drew inspiration from her mother, who has always been a guiding light in her life. Like many, Clare's family faced heartbreak, losing her brother Paul just before Christmas in 1998 at the age of 19. This profound loss reshaped Clare's outlook on life, instilling in her and her family a renewed appreciation for its fragility and value. In the years that followed, Clare married her childhood sweetheart Allan, became a mother to Paul and Charli, and pursued a career as an accountant. While raising her young family and supporting Highland businesses, Clare's entrepreneurial spirit grew. By late 2015, she discovered her true calling: uniting her love for the Highlands, her creative vision, and her dedication to craftsmanship into a pioneering mission: The pursuit of sustainable excellence with Tartan cloth woven, not on modern machines, but on original century old looms. Clare's journey as an industry leader was clear, despite the challenges she anticipated. Determined to revive the art of storytelling through tartan design, she set out to restore artisan weaving skills and introduce disruptive designer collections to the Highlands. As the founder and owner of Prickly Thistle, and the outlet store called Rebel Row in Inverness, Clare has established a brand synonymous with Scottish heritage, creativity and endurance. And this Brand has been discovered by the likes of Fendi, the  historic Italian luxury fashion house with a number of famous names buying into the product including Sam Heughan or Jamie Fraser of Outlander. Clare Campbell's pioneering story in weaving and designer clothing is extraordinary and it is with pleasure that Unique Scotland Podcast brings Clare's incredible story (and lovely Inverness accent) to you wherever you listen.

Fresh off his February 16th premiere on American Idol, Jake Thistle joins me on Caught on the Mike to talk about his latest single, “Sleep On Me” — a bold, confident statement from an artist stepping into his moment. We break down the meaning behind the track, the edge and urgency in the songwriting, and how it reflects where Jake is mentally and creatively right now. With a sound rooted in classic '70s and '80s influence but sharpened for today, “Sleep On Me” feels like both a warning shot and a breakthrough. We also get into his Idol experience, working with powerhouse producer Butch Walker, and how national exposure collides with years of groundwork. This episode is about belief, timing, and what happens when the world finally starts paying attention.

The Holistic Herbalism Podcast

Have you ever wished you had thorns? This week's featured story comes from the By Thistle By Thimble collection. It's called "The Gentle Woodsman and the Final Fall Phoebe." At an early age Tobias knew he would never marry. His love of the natural world gave him the sense of connection and dedication that he perceived marriage to be. Not until he is an old man and a late-to-migrate phoebe bird leads him to Dorothea, an expert forager who lives on the other side of the forest — only then does Tobias realize that there is a special kind of magic that comes from spending regular time with a particular friend. Wishing you a Happy Galentine's Day season, this episode is dedicated to a thorough look at the concept of feminist love with Esmée Streachailt and Jocelyn Crawley. First up, hear Thistle deliver the podcast greeting before the world news segment with Cat Bradfield featuring stories from the Gambia, Chile, Indonesia and the United States. Next, take a listen to the interview Jocelyn did with Ms. Esmée Streachailt of MedusaRising.org, a wonderful radical feminist organization that engages and inspires young women to join the movement. Esmée and Jocelyn explore patriarchal concepts of love in order to highlight the need for a radical feminist love that uproots and heals. Finally, take a deep dive into the concept of feminist love with Jocelyn's commentary she leaves us with after the interview. Stay tuned 'til the very end for Margaret's explanation of this month's cover art reprinted below. From WLRN's resident graphic designer, Margaret: "I started with the idea of light representing love. Light flowing out of our selves - connecting us. I found a photo of our sun I had captured which showed rays radiating out. I reused some silhouettes I had created for earlier editions, and arranged them to show women in a circle around the source of light, and love, holding hands. For the background I added a NASA image of stars that I altered with colors. Stars across the universe, like our sun, some with the potential for light and love. But it is our earth, and each other which constellates our reality. It is our sun which is the source of light that allows us to live, and to love. It is our selves which bring light and love to each other. Blessed be!"

In the summer of 1488, a King of Scots lay dying in a flour mill, allegedly murdered by a man disguised as a priest. But how did James III - a man who preferred lutes to longswords and architects to Earls - find himself fleeing for his life from his own son? This week, we're venturing just north of the border and slightly back in time to explore the chaotic, culture-clashing reign of James III. From the dramatic "kidnapping" of his childhood to the brutal executions at Lauder Bridge and the mystery of his final moments at Sauchieburn, we look at a monarch who was perhaps too "Renaissance" for his own good. We'll also trace the thread that leads directly to the Tudor dynasty, exploring how this medieval tragedy set the stage for the "Union of the Thistle and the Rose" and the eventual rise of the United Kingdom. It's a story of gold, betrayal, and a lifelong penance worn in the form of an iron belt. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
