1st Peter – Living as Sojourners and Exiles Pt. 6: Suffering for Jesus By Louie Marsh, 7-9-2023 1) Serving Jesus means I BLESS those who curse me. “8Finally, all of you, have unity of mind, sympathy, brotherly love, a tender heart, and a humble mind. 9Do not repay evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary, bless, for to this you were called, that you may obtain a blessing.” (1 Peter 3:8–9, ESV) “5“Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.” (Matthew 5:5, ESV) 2) Serving Jesus means I WATCH my mouth & do good. “10For “Whoever desires to love life and see good days, let him keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit; 11let him turn away from evil and do good; let him seek peace and pursue it. 12For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are open to their prayer. But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.”” (1 Peter 3:10–12, ESV) 3) Serving Jesus means seeing BLESSING in suffering. “13Now who is there to harm you if you are zealous for what is good? 14But even if you should suffer for righteousness' sake, you will be blessed. Have no fear of them, nor be troubled,” (1 Peter 3:13–14, ESV) 4) Serving Jesus means CHOOSING Jesus as Lord. “15but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect,” (1 Peter 3:15, ESV) 5) Serving Jesus means keeping my conscience CLEAN. “16having a good conscience, so that, when you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame. 17For it is better to suffer for doing good, if that should be God's will, than for doing evil.” (1 Peter 3:16–17, ESV) 6) Serving Jesus means I SUFFER like He suffered. “18For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit, 19in which he went and proclaimed to the spirits in prison, 20because they formerly did not obey, when God's patience waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were brought safely through water.” (1 Peter 3:18–20, ESV) 7) Serving Jesus means calling out to him through BAPTISM. “21Baptism, which corresponds to this, now saves you, not as a removal of dirt from the body but as an appeal to God for a good conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, 22who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, with angels, authorities, and powers having been subjected to him.” (1 Peter 3:21–22, ESV) “11In him also you were circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, 12having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the powerful working of God, who raised him from the dead.” (Colossians 2:11–12, ESV)

In this life there will be suffering. But good news is that the pains of this current age are mere symptoms of the human condition which Jesus is the answer to. In this message by Pastor Dave we are encouraged to relook at how God can use suffering as a means to refine our character and the reason we can rejoice in God in every season of life is because He remembers.
In a live broadcast, Pastor Mike will discuss what the Bible says about suffering for Jesus. My website: www.limpingforjesus.org
Message based on I Peter 4:12-19. Is it ever God's will for his children to suffer? Without question, Christians have been suffering since the beginning of the church. Suffering comes in different forms for different reasons. Peter wrote to Christians who were beginning to be persecuted for their faith. He himself would be martyred under Nero. I have heard preachers say that God's children can completely avoid pain in this life. Some Christians are suffering because they follow Christ. Others suffer in various ways while we serve Christ. Sometimes we suffer because of foolish choices. Peter doesn't tell us why we suffer, but he does help us to know how to suffer: without surprise, without shame, without apology. Quotes:C. S. Lewis: Pain is God's megaphone to awaken a slumbering world – God whispers in our pleasure . . . and shouts in our pain.Alistair Begg: We should neither court suffering nor complain about it. Instead, we should see it as one of the means God chooses to employ in order to make us increasingly useful to our Master.Amy Carmichael: Hast thou no scar?No hidden scar on foot, or side, or hand?I hear thee sung as mighty in the land;I hear them hail thy bright, ascendant star.Hast thou no scar?Hast thou no wound?Yet I was wounded by the archers; spent,Leaned Me against a tree to die; and rentBy ravening beasts that compassed Me, I swooned.Hast thou no wound? No wound? No scar?Yet, as the Master shall the servant be,And piercèd are the feet that follow Me.But thine are whole; can he have followed farWho hast no wound or scar?John Stott: Do you want to be holy? Then you will suffer.Tertullian: The blood of the martyrs is the seed of the church.Henri Nouwen: It would be just another illusion to believe that reaching out to God will free us from pain and suffering. Often, indeed, it will take us where we rather would not go. But we know that without going there we will not find our life.Hershael York: has it ever occurred to you that the very thing that you wish the Lord would take away from you might be the very reason God can use you? An Amish Bishop: prosperity has often been fatal to Christianity but persecution never.Heritage Singers: You are working to see, if when I'm put through the fire, I come out shining like gold. O Lord, please don't ever stop working in me till you see I can be all you want me to be. I am willing Lord to be just exactly what you want me to be. Tune in to this powerful message from Pastor Thomas on how to suffer well as a christian in today's culture. 1 Peter 4:12-19 12 Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. 13 But rejoice insofar as you share Christ's sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed. 14 If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you. 15 But let none of you suffer as a murderer or a thief or an evildoer or as a meddler. 16 Yet if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in that name. 17 For it is time for judgment to begin at the household of God; and if it begins with us, what will be the outcome for those who do not obey the gospel of God? 18 And “If the righteous is scarcely saved, what will become of the ungodly and the sinner?” 19 Therefore let those who suffer according to God's will entrust their souls to a faithful Creator while doing good. Speaker: Brian Howard Scripture: 1 Peter 4:12 - 19 Original Air Date: 5/11/2023 ----- About Calvary YA: Our desire is that the young adults would know God and the power of Jesus' death, burial, and resurrection. We want to be people who live and love like Jesus, people who love God more and more, and people who see His grace and truth fill us to the point of overflowing into the world around us.
The most dangerous creature on the planet is the white Christian male.” Who said this? A communist party member? An ISIS fighter? No! It was written by a present Waterloo Region Catholic School Board Trustee and Registered Psychotherapist Wendy Ashby. As reported by Jonathan Kay on Twitter (https://twitter.com/jonkay/status/1641778329031254017), Ashby goes on to attack Christian women as well , “White women make obedient soldiers for the christofascist patriarchy.” Why would a white Catholic woman say such hurtful things? Seems peculiar, but I'll let you the voters ask her yourself. However, we can know the answer why we Christians are being attacked. We serve a Saviour who was crucified and since we follow Him, we should expect to suffer. What should our response be? 1 Peter 4:12-19 tells us: Rejoice! Consider ourselves blessed and praise God for being worthy enough to suffer for the name of Jesus Christ.

What does suffering for Jesus look like? Over and over again, Jesus and Paul demonstrate persecution as something we enter voluntarily. [Acts 16:16-30]
Introduction: So often you hear the phrase “suffering for Jesus” and people are referring to someone who actually is not really suffering at all. It might be someone who is on some tropical island on a mission trip, or someone who is in a place that we would love to visit. At one point in time, did you…

"Talk about suffering here below..." and you MUST be talking about something other than Christians in America. The sense of entitlement that evangelicals in America possess is truly next level and their definition of persecution just goes to prove that they have no idea what being persecuted is. This week, we look at the evangelical persecution complex phenomenon and set the record straight about what religious persecution is and what it isn't. Also, in an odd twist, it's Christians calling out other Christians and one teen badass with a message for evangelicals that tried to infiltrate his high school this week on Christians behaving badly.
