DateAugust 31, 2025SynopsisIn this sermon, we explore God's radical, relentless love through the beloved children's show Bluey. Diving deep into the episode "Sleepytime," we unpack how cultural narratives of an angry, punitive God have caused profound harm, while scripture actually reveals a tender, compassionate Divine Parent who never gives up on us. Through beautiful imagery of a mother's cosmic love and ancient words from Hosea, we discover that God's essence isn't wrath or disappointment, but an unwavering love that transforms how we see ourselves and how we build community. A GREAT OLD SONG WITH A GREAT OLD MESSAGE.
What is the Gospel? Paul explains this good news in Romans 1, unpacking the truth that the Gospel is about Jesus; that all of Scripture centers on Him; that His life, death, resurrection, and ascension took place in real time in history; that these truths have been passed down through the apostles who witnessed and testified to these events; and that this good news is the hope of our salvation. The Gospel is the cornerstone of our faith, and the inevitable response from all who hear and believe is a joyful declaration of praise to our God, who saves.
Speaker: Ron HackneyScripture: Matt. 4:17-25 Download 06222025A.mp3
There is no sign that Matthew was searching for Jesus or intending to follow him. Therefore, Jesus called Matthew first, only then did Matthew choose to follow Him. No one chooses Christ; he chooses us. When Jesus said, 'Follow me,' his words carried the same divine power that healed the paralyzed man when Jesus told him, ‘Get up and walk.' Christ is the Author of salvation, and his Word is the means of salvation. For the Gospel is “the power of God for salvation” (Romans 1:16). And in Matthew's case, the call of Christ was an effectual call. He immediately got up and followed Jesus without hesitation or delay.
04/06/25 Sermon:The Gospel of Christ, a Hidden Treasure (Seeing as Jesus Sees)Matthew 13:44–46 & Luke 2:25–35In our world, value is often determined by rarity, talent, or historical significance. A Picasso painting or a Michael Jordan jersey fetches millions because of the stories and achievements they represent. But what about the value we place on people? Do we see them as God sees them, as sacred and treasured? This week's sermon reminds us that Jesus is the light of God, revealing both the beauty and the darkness in our world. He invites us to know Him intimately, to abide in His love, and to be transformed by His presence. Jesus is not just a teacher; He is God in human form, offering us a treasure beyond compare. When we encounter Jesus, we find a hidden treasure that compels us to abandon everything else to belong to Him. This treasure is not just for us to keep but to share with others, especially those whom society might overlook or reject. We are called to see the dignity and worth in every person. Lord Jesus, You are the light of the world, revealing the truth of God's love and grace. Help us to see others through Your eyes, recognizing the hidden treasure in each person. May we abide in Your love and be transformed by Your presence. Teach us to love You above all and to love our neighbors as ourselves. Give us the courage to step beyond social taboos and be a presence in our communities that reflects Your love. Amen. This weekend, take a moment to reach out to someone who might feel overlooked or undervalued. Offer them a word of encouragement or a simple act of kindness. Let them know they are seen and loved by God. This would be a great Sunday to invite someone to Misty Creek and reach out to someone you have not seen at church in a while. I hope to see you on Sunday!!Stephen

Sermon: The Gospel of Grace (Galatians pt. 2)Series: GalatiansScripture: Galatians 1:11-24Teacher: Bro. Chris CarterHow does the Gospel liberate us from self-condemnation? How does it invite us into the radiant embrace of God's unmerited favor? Drawing parallels from Paul's journey of conversion, we witness the radical shift from persecutor to proclaimer, from pride to humility, all catalyzed by an encounter with Jesus Christ. In this sermon, Bro. Chris Carter confronts our temptation to cling to our "baloney sandwiches" of self-righteousness and fear instead of embracing the lavish feast of God's grace. We're invited to exchange our meager offerings for the bountiful provision of God's grace.
Sermon: The Gospel of Grace (Galatians pt. 2)Series: GalatiansScripture: Galatians 1:11-24Teacher: Rev. Paul LawlerWhat does a life lived under God's Gospel of Grace look like? God's grace extends even to the most unlikely of individuals. From the Apostle Paul's history as a persecutor of Christians to his radical conversion, we witness the profound impact of God's love and redemption in his life. Grace isn't merely an unmerited favor but a divine empowerment that enables us to live lives of righteousness and holiness. With insights from 2 Timothy 2:1 and Titus 2:11-14, we learn how grace teaches us to deny ungodliness and live in a manner that honors God.Moreover, Pastor Paul challenges the notion of seeking human approval, emphasizing that our security and identity are rooted in God's love and acceptance, not in the approval of others. He illustrates how our relationship with God transcends performance-based acceptance, fostering a deep sense of security and belonging.Join us as we explore the transformative power of living under the Gospel of Grace, discovering how God's love, redemption, and empowerment can radically change our lives and enable us to become bold ambassadors for Christ in a world in need of His grace.
Hearing God's Voice MESSAGE SUMMARY: Introduction (from 4/23/2017 Sermon): The Gospel is based on both the Old and the New Testaments. The Gospel must go forth in the power of the Holy Spirit – the Gospel is a Spiritual message. Today's Message: In John 10, Jesus is speaking about the “shepherd”; the shepherd: 1) enters through the gate; 2) has the gate opened by a watchman; 3) sheep listen to his voice; 4) calls each sheep by name; 5) leads his sheep by going ahead of the sheep; and 6) has a voice by which he is known to his sheep and they follow him. In the first century, shepherding was an intimate profession; and the shepherd was always with his sheep. The shepherd talked to his sheep, and the sheep knew the shepherd's voice. Also in John 10, Jesus talked about the “false shepherd” who is a “thief and a robber”. The sheep do not follow the “false shepherd”. Jesus says that the “thief (false shepherd) comes only to steal, kill and destroy”. In John 10:7-10, Jesus says that He is the “gate”, and He is the way (gate) by which we are saved from our sins and eternal death; and we are provisioned for a full life as His followers. Like the sheep that follow the good shepherd, if we follow Jesus, we will all hear His voice. How do we know the voice of Jesus? Consider that: 1) we must enter only through the gate – Jesus; 2) we must be a sheep of the Good Shepherd and follow Jesus through an intimate relationship with Him; 3) we must learn to listen (for example, today we listen through the inward witness of the Holy Spirit – the Holy Spirit is charged with communicating the will of God to mankind and to sync our mind with the mind of God); 4) we obey as we listen – in the New Testament, the words “hear” and “obey” are the same words – God will speak directions for our lives; and 5) we don't harden our hearts to the voice of the Lord – listen to His voice and obey. As the Lord says: “Be still and know that I am God.” (Psalms 46:10). TODAY'S PRAYER: Keeping the Sabbath, Lord, will require a lot of changes in the way I am living life. Teach me, Lord, how to take the next step with this in a way that fits my unique personality and situation. Help me to trust you with all that will remain unfinished and to enjoy my humble place in your very large world. In Jesus' name, amen. Scazzero, Peter. Emotionally Healthy Spirituality Day by Day (p. 129). Zondervan. Kindle Edition. TODAY'S AFFIRMATION: Today, I affirm that because of what God has done for me in His Son, Jesus, I AM FORGIVEN. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9 SCRIPTURE REFERNCE (ESV): John 10:1-18; Ezekiel 34:22-34; John 5:25-29: Ezekiel 43:2;1 King's 19:12; Isaiah 30:21; John 10:27-30; Hebrews 3:7-15.
