What if strength isn't what you think it is? In Week 4 of Stand Firm and Act Like Men, Pastor Joby Martin shows how Jesus redefines what it means to be strong. Strength isn't measured by status, control, or success—it's revealed in surrender. A strong man is one who rests in Jesus, perseveres through pain, walks humbly under God's authority, and uses his strength to serve others. When we stop striving for worldly greatness and start depending on Christ, we discover that real strength isn't about power—it's about purpose. When you are weak, He is strong. So what would it look like for you to become that kind of man?

We are not called to sit on the sidelines—we are called to stand firm. Week 3 of Stand Firm and Act Like Men calls men to rise up and hold the line—not in their own strength, but in the strength of the Lord. The enemy's mission is clear: to steal, kill, and destroy everything and everyone we love. But God has equipped us with truth, righteousness, peace, faith, salvation, His Word, and prayer—the full armor we need to fight for our families, our marriages, and the next generation. When you stand firm in your faith, you become the gatekeeper of your home and a warrior for God's kingdom. Are you ready to fight for what matters most?
Just as a helmet protects your head in a crash, salvation protects your mind and heart in the battles of life. Through Ephesians 2, we discover what we're saved from, by, through, and for. Our salvation gives us protection, perspective, and confidence to live courageously for Christ. Whether you're discovering faith for the first time or being reminded of the joy of your salvation, this message will encourage you to fix your mind on Jesus, walk boldly in His grace, and remember that nothing can separate you from the love of God in Christ Jesus. Free speech on college campuses has become one of higher education's most volatile and defining challenges. In this episode, Dr. Drumm McNaughton talks with Dr. Sean Stevens, Chief Research Advisor at FIRE—the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression—about findings from FIRE's newly released College Free Speech Rankings and the state of academic freedom, the growing political pressures on universities, and how presidents and boards can protect open dialogue in today's divided climate. Topics Covered: Why FIRE expanded its mission beyond higher education and no longer stands for "Foundation for Individual Rights in Education." How FIRE's College Free Speech Rankings and Scholars Under FIRE survey measure tolerance and academic freedom nationwide. What the data shows about declining political tolerance among students and faculty. How government pressure is influencing faculty terminations and speech policies. The role of leadership in maintaining consistent, transparent free speech policies. Examples from Vanderbilt and Dartmouth showing how structured dialogue programs improve campus discourse. Three Takeaways for University Presidents and Boards: Establish and Communicate Bright Lines – Define clear speech policies and enforce them consistently across all viewpoints. Stand Firm in Times of Controversy – Uphold principles of free expression even when political or donor pressure mounts. Promote Civic Dialogue and Intellectual Diversity – Support programs that help students and faculty engage constructively across ideological divides. This is the second episode in our two-part series on biblical manhood. In this conversation, Albo Esilaba is joined again by Joby Martin, pastor of The Church of Eleven22 and author of Stand Firm and Act Like a Man. Together, they go deeper into practical ways of living out godly manhood in everyday life—whether you're a dad, a leader, or a man of influence in any setting. Joby and Albo challenge the divide between “sacred” and “secular” work, reminding us that all vocations are God-given assignments and that every man has been sent into the world as a frontline minister. They discuss how aligning your work, business, or leadership with biblical principles can create environments that impact the kingdom and help people flourish. They also explore how to raise the next generation of men, emphasizing that more is caught than taught. From praying scripture over your children, asking heart-level questions, and parenting toward relationship, to surrounding your teens with godly adult mentors—Joby gives practical tools for modeling and passing on godly manhood. Along the way, they remind fathers to give themselves grace, to never give up, and to embrace the responsibility of leading well. This episode is a powerful reminder of the need for men who will stand up, take ownership, and live out biblical manhood in every area of life. What happened to godly masculinity? In this powerful kickoff to the Stand Firm and Act Like Men series, Pastor Joby Martin challenges the cultural narrative and calls men back to their God-given purpose. From Genesis to 1 Corinthians 16:13–14, we see that manhood isn't about muscles, money, or machismo — it's about being a prophet, priest, king, provider, and protector. God designed men to work with purpose, obey with courage, and love with sacrifice. But sin has distorted that calling, leading to passivity, confusion, and brokenness. This message is a wake-up call to rise up, reject the lies, and return to the design of the Creator. If you've ever wondered what it really means to be a man of God, this sermon is for you. “Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love.” – 1 Corinthians 16:13–14
Division is easy. Standing firm together takes faith. In this message from Philippians 4, learn how to stay steady, choose joy, and keep your heart anchored when life tries to shake your unity.
In Ephesians 6, Paul calls us to put on the “sandals of peace” — to be ready to move, not just defend. The Gospel isn't meant to be stored away; it's meant to be shared. This message challenges believers to stop standing on the sidelines, to take ground for the Kingdom, and to bring the good news of peace to a world still living in captivity. Shows Main Idea – In this episode, Rick Thomas talks with Pastor Joby Martin about his book Stand Firm and Act Like Men and the urgent need for Biblical masculinity in today's culture. Far from cultural stereotypes of passivity or toxic aggression, Joby explains how Scripture calls men to live as providers, protectors, prophets, priests, and servant kings—all under the lordship of Christ. Together, Rick and Joby unpack the traps that ensnare men—pride, anxiety, laziness, isolation, and lust—and the crucial role of accountability through what Joby calls “mat carriers.” They also address how women can encourage rather than correct, why technology is one of the greatest threats to family life, and how the Church must avoid softening or distorting masculinity. This conversation calls men to bend the knee to Jesus before they can stand firm in strength and love. Darkness has always been part of life on this side of eternity, but today’s culture can make it feel overwhelming. In our daily prayer and devotional, we remember that the constant flood of sin, confusion, and moral compromise can tempt us to feel powerless or afraid. Peyton Garland reminds us, however, that the call to stand firm is not new—and that our strength doesn’t come from ourselves, but from the Lord. Ephesians 6 urges believers to “put on the full armor of God,” a vivid picture of spiritual preparation. Just as Roman soldiers equipped themselves daily for battle, we must clothe ourselves in truth, righteousness, peace, faith, and salvation—anchored by the Word of God and prayer. These are not abstract ideas but divine defenses against the lies and schemes of the enemy. Our world calls evil good and celebrates darkness as enlightenment, but we are called to live differently. To speak truth in love. To stand firm when others compromise. To shine Christ’s light into every space we inhabit—our homes, workplaces, and communities. Darkness cannot drive out light; it disappears when light is present. Standing firm in God’s armor doesn’t mean living in fear or anger—it means living with courage, love, and unwavering trust in the God who has already secured the victory. Today's Bible Reading: "Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes." – Ephesians 6:10-11 (NIV) Key Takeaways The spiritual battles we face require divine strength—our power comes from the Lord, not ourselves. The armor of God equips us to resist temptation, fear, and cultural compromise. Truth, righteousness, faith, and prayer are our daily weapons against spiritual darkness. Light always overcomes darkness—Christ’s presence in us pushes back the enemy’s schemes. Let’s Pray Together Father, thank You for giving us Your armor to protect and strengthen us in this dark world. Forgive us when we neglect the tools You’ve provided. Help us to stand firm in truth, to walk in righteousness, and to speak with love and boldness. Remind us that darkness cannot overcome Your light. Fill us with courage to reflect Your glory in a world that desperately needs You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
