Will we finish the task? 2033 will mark the second millennia of Christians in the world. Where are we going? How do we as Christ-followers find and fulfill his plan for our lives in real time? God has not concealed his plan from us. The risen Lord commissions his people to make disciples of all nations. These have been our marching orders for nearly two thousand years. Jesus has sent us his power, shown us his purpose and sustained us with his promise for all this time. Why would he fail now? Message based on Matthew 28:16-20.Quotes: William Temple: Worship is the submission of all our nature to God. It is the quickening of conscience by His Holiness; the nourishment of mind with his truth; the purifying of imagination by his beauty; the opening of the heart to his love; the surrender of will to his purpose and all of this gathered up in adoration, the most selfless emotion of which our nature is capable and therefore the chief remedy for that self-centeredness which is our original sin and the source of all actual sin.Duane Brooks: I don't care if anybody knows the name of Tallowood. I don't care, but I want them to know the name of Jesus.Andy Crouch: Why is power a gift? Because power is for flourishing. When power is used well, people and the whole cosmos come more alive to what they were meant to be. And flourishing is the test of power.Mike Breen: Many of us serve in or lead churches where we have hundreds or even thousands of people showing up on Sunday. But we have to honestly answer this question: do their lives look like the lives of the people we see in Scripture? If you set out to build the church, there is no guarantee you will make disciples. It is far more likely that you will create consumers who depend on the spiritual services that religious professionals provide. Bill Hull: Our work is not to build a great church or a large church, church building is God's work. Our work is to make disciples who make disciples , the rest of it is window dressing. Eugene Peterson: The most important question isn't “What does this mean,” but “What can I obey?” Simple obedience will open up our lives to a text more quickly than any number of Bible studies, dictionaries, and concordances.D.A. Carson: This is not a general ‘I will be with you,' but rather an emphatic, comprehensive, and personal assurance that Christ's presence accompanies the disciple daily, continuously, and completely. To discover more messages of hope go to tallowood.org/sermons/.Follow us on Instagram, X, and YouTube @tallowoodbc.Follow us on FaceBook @tallowoodbaptist

Some years ago, we sat around a fire with good friends in Montana. Justin Whitmel Earley says good things happen around a campfire. John mentions a charcoal fire twice in his gospel. Peter was present at both. At the first fire, he denied his faith. At the second fire, he found it again. Our failures are not fatal. Today is a new day. Gather around the fire with us in worship. The same Lord who called us before is calling today. Will we follow him? Message based on John 21:15-19.Quotes: C. S. Lewis: On the whole, God's love for us is a much safer subject to think about than our love for Him. But the great thing to remember is that, though our feelings come and go, His love for us does not. It is not wearied by our sins, or our indifference; and, therefore, it is quite relentless in its determination that we shall be cured of those sins, at whatever cost to us, at whatever cost to Him.Peter Marshall: When a person comes to Christ, it is never again ‘business as usual.' Abraham Lincoln: You can fool all the people some of the time and some of the people all of the time . . . but you cannot fool all the people all the time. Duane Brooks: And we can never fool God.J. I. Willard: That room lit up with the glory of God. I saw a figure. I did not see a face, but I recognized it to be the person of Christ. I felt a hand on my shoulder, and I heard a voice that said, ‘Feed my sheep.Soren Kierkegaard: Jesus never asks for admirers, worshipers, or adherents. No, he calls disciples. It is not adherents of a teaching but followers of a life Christ is looking for.William Temple: Forgiveness does not consist of remission of penalty. To forgive is to restore to the old relationship. So the forgiveness that Christ wins for us is not chiefly a remission of penalty; it is the restoration to the affectionate intimacy of sons with their Father. To discover more messages of hope go to tallowood.org/sermons/.Follow us on Instagram, X, and YouTube @tallowoodbc.Follow us on FaceBook @tallowoodbaptist

Are you struggling with doubt? How do we choose between faith and reason? Actually, we don't have to. As he tells Thomas's conversion story, John contrasts faith with sight. After the ascension, every believer has placed confidence in the testimony of the eyewitnesses. What conditions are we placing on our faith today? Believe and you will see. Message based on John 20:24-31.Quotes: Fyodor Dostoevsky: I believe in Christ and confess him not like some child; my hosanna has passed through an enormous furnace of doubt.Aldous Huxley: I had reasons that I did not want Christianity to be true, because if it were true, I would have to change the way I lived. Madeleine L'Engle: We draw people to Christ not by loudly discrediting what they believe, by telling them how wrong they are and how right we are, but by showing them a light that is so lovely that they want with all their hearts to know the source of it.Duane Brooks: Jesus will stop at nothing to get to the one who is still not believing.N. T. Wright: The Quest for the Historical Jesus. "T" Teacher, if the European scholars have lost Jesus, that is their problem. We have not lost him. We know him. We love him. T. S. Eliot: Seeing is believing . . . There is another way.Craig Groeschel: Either we believe God or we are just playing church. Thomas the wonderer becomes Thomas the worshiper becomes Thomas the witness. Henry Drummond: It ought to be placed in the forefront of all Christian teaching that Christ's mission on earth was to give men Life. Mother's Day and Eastertide converge again this year. What do moms really want? Is it flowers? Or perhaps a beautiful card? From observation, I would offer that moms want all their chicks to come home to the nest. This is not always possible. Jesus' mother was with the other disciples and apostles when Jesus appeared among them. Jesus revealed that he had come back to life. Then he gave the greatest gifts to the gathered disciples. Jesus' resurrection kept his promises to his disciples in the first century and extends those same gifts to us today. Will we receive them? Message based on Luke 24:36-49.Quotes:William Ross Wallace: All the world is in the cradle, and the hand that rocks the cradle rules the world. John Quincy Adams: All that I am, my mother made me.John Wesley: My heart was strangely warmed.William Barclay: Jesus promised his disciples three things—that they would be completely fearless, absurdly happy, and in constant trouble.Wolfhart Pannenburg: The evidence for Jesus' resurrection is so strong that nobody would question it except for two things: First, it is a very unusual event. And second, if you believe it happened, you have to change the way you live.William Willimon: I don't need a resurrected Jesus. Come to think of it, I'm not sure I want a resurrected Jesus. In fact, [in one sense] a resurrected Jesus is a real nuisance for me, personally. I've got a good life, I've figured out how to work the world, on the whole, to the advantage of me and my friends and family. My health is good, and everybody close to me is doing fine. I have the illusion that I'm in control, that I'm making a so significant contribution to help Jesus … on my own. No, I don't need a bodily resurrected Jesus. In fact, [once I truly embrace the resurrection of Jesus], my life would become much more difficult.Paul Eshleman: The crowd exploded as if a dam had burst. Everyone began cheering and dancing and hugging one another and jumping up and down.Jurgen Moltmann: God weeps with us so that we may someday laugh with him.Dietrich Bonhoeffer: Lack of repentance is the root cause of powerlessness in the church, in this materialistic, self-indulgent age. There can be no spiritual power in a non-repentant church.George Whitefield: God forbid that I should travel with anybody a quarter of an hour without speaking of Christ to them.Duane Brooks: I woke up this morning thinking about my momma and her front row seat in heaven today, and she loved Mother's Day so much. And this is what I thought, what would mom want me to do? I tell you what my mom would want to do. In her present position, in the peace of Christ, seeing the power and glory of God, she would want me to tell you about her savior. Have you heard of anybody deconstructing their faith? This has been a hot topic in recent years. It is not as new as some would have us believe. After Jesus' crucifixion, two of his disciples decided to defect. They were heading home to Emmaus. Incognito, Jesus joined them and asked about their sorrow. Then he taught them about himself from the scriptures. He saw them, spoke to them, and stayed with them when they arrived. When he revealed himself to them, they remembered how his teaching about himself ignited their hearts. It could happen to us! Message based on Luke 24:17-27.Quotes:Robert Browning:. . . and I find it hard to be aChristian as I said!Still every now and then my headRaised glad, sinks mournful-- all grows drearSpite of the sunshine . . . But Easter day breaks! but Christ rises! Mercy every wayIs infinite -- and who can say?Duane Brooks: Jesus opened the tomb, opened the scriptures, opened their eyes to see him, and opened their minds to believe. What did Jesus say? What is Jesus saying to us today?Lewis Smedes: Hope is to our spirits what oxygen is to our lungs. Your spirit dies when hope dies. They may not bury you for a while, but without hope you're already dead.Dr. Carl F. H. Henry: Jesus planted the only durable rumor of hope amid the widespread despair of a hopeless world.John Claypool: Every exit is an entrance.Duane Brooks: When sadness stops us in our tracks, we may listen for his voice and know that he will come looking for us because we are his own. Duane Brooks: Even if we walk away, Jesus is seeking us; he will find us. Jack MacGorman: The Bible has always been for me a meeting place with God. Eugene Peterson: You don't live in a mechanistic world ruled by necessity; you don't live in a random world ruled by chance; you live in a world ruled by the God of Exodus and Easter. He will do things in you that neither you nor your friends would have supposed possible.Eugene Peterson: The most important question isn't “What does this mean,” but “What can I obey?” Simple obedience will open up our lives to a text more quickly than any number of Bible studies, dictionaries, and concordances.Fleming Rutledge: Any manifestation that reveals Jesus' true identity occurs because the power of God is at work upon the eyes, ears, and hearts of the recipients.John Stott: We live and die. Jonathan Haidt wrote the Anxious Generation to describe the reality of anxiety in our world. What frightens us most these days? How do we overcome our fears? After Jesus rose from death, his words empowered his disciples to live fearlessly. What if we lived by the red letters? Message based on Matthew 28:1-10 and Revelation 1:17-18.Quotes:John Updike: Seven Stanzas at EasterMake no mistake: if he rose at all It was as His body; If the cell's dissolution did not reverse, the molecule reknit, The amino acids rekindle, The Church will fall.It was not as the flowers, Each soft spring recurrent; It was not as His Spirit in the mouths and fuddled eyes of the Eleven apostles; It was as His flesh; ours. The same hinged thumbs and toes The same valved heart That—pierced—died, withered, paused, and then regathered Out of enduring Might New strength to enclose.Let us not mock God with metaphor, Analogy, sidestepping, transcendence, Making of the event a parable, a sign painted in the faded Credulity of earlier ages: Let us walk through the door. The stone is rolled back, not papier-mache, Not a stone in a story, But the vast rock of materiality that in the slow grinding of Time will eclipse for each of us The wide light of day.And if we have an angel at the tomb, Make it a real angel, Weighty with Max Planck's quanta, vivid with hair, opaque in The dawn light, robed in real linen Spun on a definite loom.Duane Brooks: This is what's happening in heaven, and it happens every time the people of God come together and worship him, heaven is coming to earth. And the hope is that maybe in our midst is somebody who doesn't yet know Jesus, but by the way we worship says that must be real. That must be true because we give God his worth.Japanese proverb: There are four things to be afraid of—fire, storm, earthquake, and one's father.Robert Murray McCheyne: If I knew Jesus was in the next room praying for me, I would not fear anything in the world. The distance makes no difference. He is praying for me . Eugene Peterson: The most important question we may ask of the Bible is not: what does this mean, but what can I obey.Thomas a Kempis: Instant obedience is the only kind of obedience there is; delayed obedience is disobedience.Duane Brooks: There are three words that could change the lives of every person we meet, every person we encounter. The words, he is risen. That changes everything. How do I know? Because it changed my life. Duane Brooks: "He is risen" changed your lives and it will change the life of every person who comes to believe it. We worship fearlessly. And the good news is because Christ is risen, we don't have to be afraid of dying, nor do we have to be afraid of speaking publicly about what Jesus has done in our lives. Have you ever experienced tenacious, relentless love? Mary Magdalene loved Jesus a lot. People who are forgiven much love greatly. The first to see Jesus after the resurrection, she held on to Jesus like her life depended on him. Imagine being loved that much. Ponder a love that will never let us go. What if Someone loves you like that? Message based on John 20:1-2, 11-18.Quotes: Duane Brooks: There is something about Mary Magdalene; When you lose something you go back to the place you last saw it. Duane Brooks: Mary loved a lot. Her love would not let Jesus go.Charles Spurgeon: In thinking over this subject, I have come to the conclusion that Mary Magdalene was selected to see Christ first because she loved him most. John loved Jesus much, but Mary loved him more. John looked into the empty sepulchre, and then went away home; but Mary stood there, and wept, until her risen Lord appeared to her. Love, you know, is a keen-eyed grace. Love will look for Jesus, and discover him where none else can. Mary stayed right there.Eugene Peterson: Following Jesus doesn't get us where we want to go. It gets us to where Jesus goes, where we meet him in Resurrection surprise, “My Lord and my God.” Those who expect Easter, experience Easter. Peter Larson: Despite our efforts to keep him out, God intrudes. The life of Jesus is bracketed by two impossibilities: a virgin's womb and an empty tomb. Jesus entered our world through a door marked "No Entrance" and left through a door marked "No Exit."G. K. Chesteron: On the third day the friends of Christ coming at daybreak to the place found the grave empty and the stone rolled away. In varying ways they realized the new wonder; but even they hardly realized that the world had died in the night. What they were looking at was the first day of a new creation, with a new heaven and a new earth; and in a semblance of the gardener God walked again in the garden, in the cool not of the evening but the dawn.Herman Bavinck: The image of God is much too rich for it to be fully realized in a single human being, however richly gifted that human being may be. It can only be somewhat unfolded in its depth and riches in a humanity counting billions of members. George MacDonald: Troubled soul, thou art not bound to feel, but thou art bound to arise. God loves thee whether thou feelest it or not. Duane Brooks: God's grip won't slip! Who is holding on to you? The Risen Lord of Life is holding on to us to give us life. On this Palm Sunday, we remember the triumphal parade into the city of Jerusalem. Jesus was hailed that day as the conquering King. When did Jesus win? Do you ever wonder? Was it on Sunday or Friday? What does Jesus' sixth word from the cross mean to us? “It is finished!” Message based on John 19:30.Quotes:Kenneth Bell: I was thinking how you do so little around here, how do you know when you are done? Cecil Rhodes: So much to do, so little done.Duane Brooks: On the cross, Jesus knew and spoke when he had finished his work.Duane Brooks: Jesus saying, “It is finished,” was not a surrender, but shout of victory.Duane Brooks: Unless and until we believe that Jesus finished our salvation on the cross, we will forever labor under the weight of our own sin. Duane Brooks: The goal is not just a transaction, but transformation.John Stott: It has been and will forever remain finished.Oswald Chambers: Our Lord does not pretend we are all right when we are all wrong. The atonement is a propitiation whereby God, through the death of Jesus, makes an unholy person holy. The greatest note of triumph ever sounded in the ears of a startled universe was that sounded on the Cross of Christ.F. B. Meyer: Christ's work needs no repetition. It is final because it is perfect.Oskar Schindler: I could have done more.Stanley Hauerwas: The cross is not a sign of the church's quiet, suffering submission to the powers-that-be, but rather the church's revolutionary participation in the victory of Christ over those powers. The cross is not a symbol for general human suffering and oppression. Rather, the cross is a sign of what happens when one takes God's account of reality more seriously than Caesar's. The cross stands as God's (and our) eternal no to the powers of death, as well as God's eternal yes to humanity, God's remarkable determination not to leave us to our own devices.John Flavel: Did Christ finish His work for us? Do you ever feel forsaken? Perhaps you have heard the expression “God-forsaken” used to describe a place or a person. Is anybody really God-forsaken? In our fourth study of Jesus' words from the cross we see that he chose to use the words of Psalm 22 to express his prayer to his Father. It is sometimes called the “cry of dereliction.” The verse gives us a lens into Jesus' thoughts on the cross. A song from years ago illumines our thoughts today: “I'm forgiven because You were forsaken.” Message based on Matthew 27:45-47. Quotes: Duane Brooks: I know we are not supposed to ask why.Jeremy Begbie: Lord, you are creator and sovereign, but why did the wind come like a snake and tear our roofs off? Why why did a mob cut short the life of one of our own children when he had everything to live for? Over and over again, Lord, we are in the midst of death. Tom Long: Elijah wasn't coming. No squadron of angels was about to show up. Peter wasn't going to come and snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. He was nowhere to be found. Duane Brooks: There are people all over this world, even those who follow Jesus, who may feel forsaken, who may feel forgotten, you may even be forlorn, but I came this morning to to bring you good news that because Jesus on that cross was forsaken for us, You and I will never be forsaken by God. Duane Brooks: I'm telling you that the price that Jesus paid when he prayed, my God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Was bigger than the national debt. Amen. Jesus paid it all.Frederick Buechner: As the farthest reach of our love for each other is loving our enemies, as the farthest reach of God's love for us is loving us at our most unlovable and unlovely, so the farthest reach of our love for God is loving him when in almost every way that matters we can neither see him nor hear him ... when the worst of the wilderness for us is the fear that he has forsaken us if indeed he exists at all.Duane Brooks: His forgiveness which is free to us, but costly to him is full and final and it belongs to us in Jesus Christ. Seven words of love. What did Jesus say when he was on the cross? First, he prayed for forgiveness for those who crucified him. Second, he offered a promise of paradise to a thief. Then he saw his mom and his best friend. As he saved the world, Jesus took time to take care of his family. This is the way. Walk in it! Message based on John 19:25-27.Quotes: Duane Brooks: In some ways, the church begins with one act of obedience to God's work in the world.Fleming Rutledge: The saying is not only, I would say, I soften it, about being nice to your mother. It is about the new community that comes into being through the power of Jesus. Duane Brooks: We can't have Jesus without the cross.Kierkegaard: Jesus never was looking for admirers. He came to find followers.John Stott: The Cross is the blazing fire at which the flame of our love is kindled, but we have to get near enough for its sparks to fall on us.Arthur Tappan Pierson: To a true child of God, the invisible bond that unites all believers to Christ is far more tender, and lasting, and precious; and, as we come to recognize and realize that we are all dwelling in one sphere of life in Him, we learn to look on every believer as our brother, in a sense that is infinitely higher than all human relationships. This is the one and only way to bring disciples permanently together. The contemplative act, that's life with the triune God. The collective act, that's life with others in the body of Christ. And the missional act for life for the sake of the world.Q&A What is the significance of the cooperative program? The cooperative program allows churches to work together in supporting missions and church planting efforts, which has led to the establishment of 26 new churches in the past year. What was the impact of the missionary adoption program?Through the missionary adoption program, about 69 missionaries in 17 different countries were supported, resulting in over 12,000 people praying to receive Jesus as their Savior last year. What does Dr. Guarneri mean by the call to follow Jesus being a call to be with Him?The call to follow Jesus emphasizes building a personal relationship with Him rather than merely adhering to a set of doctrines or commitments. How does the speaker illustrate the importance of community in the Christian life?Dr. Guarneri shares his experience of being part of a group where members support each other, highlighting that the Christian life is meant to be lived in community, not isolation. What example does Dr. Guarneri give to illustrate that anyone can share their faith?Dr. Guarneri recounts the story of the Samaritan woman who, after encountering Jesus, immediately shared her experience with her village, demonstrating that one doesn't need formal training to share their faith. #worship #discipleship #community #mission #gospelTo discover more messages of hope go to tallowood.org/sermons/.Follow us on Instagram, X, and YouTube @tallowoodbc.Follow us on FaceBook @tallowoodbaptist

Famous last words! Collections of the last words famous people spoke are available. We are trying to listen to Jesus' voice this year, pointing the way to go. What were Jesus' last words? The gospel writers have given us seven sayiings of Jesus on the cross. Today we begin to listen to the crucified Savior on a crimson cross. What was his first recorded word on the cross? Father forgive them. As we return to the Lord's Supper table, we remember his words and his sacrifice. Will we put his words into practice? Message based on Luke 23:32-38.Quotes:Frederick Faber: Seven times he spake, seven words of loveAll three hours his silence criedFor mercy on the souls of menJesus our Lord was crucified.Karl Barth: Every day, we ought to begin, we may begin with: I believe in the forgiveness of sins. 2 Corinthians 5:21: God made him who knew no sin to become sin for us so that through him we might become the righteousness of God . . .Paul E. Hoffman: To repent means to “turn around.”Oswald Chambers: We trample the blood of the Son of God if we think we are forgiven because we are sorry for our sins. The only explanation for the forgiveness of God and for the unfathomable depth of His forgetting is the death of Jesus Christ. Our repentance is merely the outcome of our personal realization of the atonement which He has worked out for us. It does not matter who or what we are; there is absolute reinstatement into God by the death of Jesus Christ and by no other way, not because Jesus Christ pleads, but because He died. It is not earned, but accepted.Marghanita Laski: What I envy most about you Christians is your forgiveness; I have nobody to forgive me.Ephesians 4:32: Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other just as in Christ God forgave you. Miroslav Volf: To triumph fully, evil needs two victories, not one. The first victory happens when an evil deed is perpetrated; the second victory, when evil is returned. After the first victory, evil would die if the second victory did not infuse it with new life.Victoria Ruvolo: There is no room for vengeance in my life, and I do not believe a long, hard prison term would do you, me, or society any good.C. S. Lewis: To be a Christian means to forgive the inexcusable because God has forgiven the inexcusable in you.Lewis Smedes: To forgive is to set a prisoner free and discover that the prisoner was you.#forgiveness #Jesus #crucifixion #transformationTo discover more messages of hope go to tallowood.org/sermons/.Follow us on Instagram, X, and YouTube @tallowoodbc.Follow us on FaceBook @tallowoodbaptist

Has the Kingdom come? How do we know? Jesus spoke about the Kingdom as both already here and still to come. It has been inaugurated but not yet consummated. Has it come to our church, our homes, and our lives? Look for a harvest. Message based on Matthew 13:1-9.Quotes:Augustine: You called, shouted, broke through my deafness; you flared, blazed, banished my blindness; you lavished your fragrance, I gasped; and now I pant for you; I tasted you, and now I hunger and thirst; you touched me, and I burned for your peace.Duane Brooks: As long as we're alive, our hearts can soften to the good news that God is trying to give us.David Buttrick: There are people at Niagara Falls who hurry from the marvelous torrent to a cheap and crowded carnival. Alexander Findley: Indeed, it's not easy to be a Christian, but it is easy to start.David Redding: Christianity is fighting a losing battle in so many of our lives, not because we are bad, but because we're too busy with our backpacks of secondhand stuff that become more important to us than Christ.Charles H. Spurgeon: If you are a real Christian, you can't fall off the boat, you can fall on the boat and break all your bones and spend the whole trip in the infirmary.Buti Thlagale: (about Desmond Tutu) at his age, he should hate a little bit more.Duane Brooks: The same seed that Jesus planted is after all the answer. The good news of Jesus Christ is enough to meet us where we are. Cast all your cares upon him because he cares for you.Audrey Assad: Love planted deeply becomes what it ought to be.Duane Brooks: Don't you want to become what you ought to be? Not a hard heart, not a shallow heart, not a divided heart, good and noble heart, good seed, good soil, good life, good God who gives it to us.#faith #healing #gospel #transformation #hopeTo discover more messages of hope go to tallowood.org/sermons/.Follow us on Instagram, X, and YouTube @tallowoodbc.Follow us on FaceBook @tallowoodbaptist

How close are we to our King? After Jesus' disciples returned from a season of ministry, he invited them to come to him. Doing things for God must never interfere with being near God. His invitation still stands. Come near to Your King and he will come near to you. RSVP. Message based on Matthew 11:25-30.Quotes: Lauren Daigle: You're gonna be okay. The sun will keep on rising in its old familiar way.Brandon Lake and Jelly Roll: I'll bring my hard-fought, heartfelt been-through-hell hallelujah.Vance Havner: Jesus said, come apart with me for a while, because this is what he knew. If we don't come apart with him, we're just gonna come apart.Bob Goff: Every day, God invites us to the same kind of adventure, it's not a trip where he sends a rigid itinerary. He simply invites us. God asks what it is He's made us to love, what it is that captures our attention, what feeds that deep indescribable need of our souls to experience the richness of the world He made. And then, leaning over us, He whispers, Let's go do that together.Trevor Hudson: Look, Look. There there are special messages that only you can speak. Special songs that only you can sing. Special acts that only you can perform. Duane Brooks: And God knows what those are. He made you the way you are, and he empowers you to do those things.John Newton: I am persuaded that love and humility are the highest attainments in the school of Christ and the brightest evidences that He is indeed our Master.Graham Kendrick: Knowing you, Jesus, knowing you, there is no greater thing. You're my all. You're the best. You're my joy, my righteousness, and I love you, Lord.John Wethington: If you liked Halcie, you are going to love Jesus.Duane Brooks: Lord, I thank you. I thank you that even though the cost of discipleship is high, the cost of not following you would be so much higher. And, Lord, we don't wanna pay that price. We don't wanna lose that love and that joy and that peace that come to those who are covered with the dust of our rabbi. Keep us close, Lord. As God pulled back the curtain of heaven in the temple, Isaiah worshiped the Lord high and lifted up, enthroned as King. After God cleansed Isaiah, he sent him, and Isaiah obeyed. King Jesus did the same with his disciples. When the sending God sends us, will we go? Message based on Matthew 10:1, 5-15; 21:28-32.Quotes: Duane Brooks: Jesus is the greatest of all time. He's undefeated.Fred Cameron: I looked at the picture of Jesus, and I am certain I saw tears in his eyes.Richard Starnes: Sometimes he looked at the world and he was tempted to say, Lord, looking at the injustice and, the disease and the hurt and the and the violence and the brokenness in our world, why don't you do something about it? His friend: So why don't you pray that prayer? Richard Starnes: Because I'm afraid that he would ask me the same question.Duane Brooks: You're on a trip. You're on a long term mission trip. For the rest of your life, you are empowered by God to make a difference in this world.Duane Brooks: Now, tell me, what can we do in a broken world? Can't we make a difference? And the question is, why aren't we making a bigger? If so many people are followers of Jesus and have received his authority to make disciples of all nations, why is it that our impact is so incredibly small?Miroslav Volf: The world's needs are larger than any one person's capacities.David Livingstone Was trying to recruit more missionaries. And he sent a letter, and they sent a letter back and said: We think we've got some candidates to join you in taking the gospel to Africa, but they're wondering they have this question, how are the roads in Africa? David Livingstone: A lot like the road to Calvary. It's uphill. You carry your cross. And by the way, send me the people who would come if there were no roads. Send me those people, and let's see what we can do for the kingdom.Samuel Taylor Coleridge: In the shelter of each other. Friendship is a sheltering tree.Duane Brooks: You are not alone. How will people know we are followers of Jesus? In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus called upon his disciples to love not only neighbors but their enemies. On another occasion Luke tells us that Jesus was asked, “Who is my neighbor?” Jesus defined a neighbor by telling of the unexpected kindness of a Samaritan to a man who had been robbed. Loving others reveals our relationship with the heavenly Father.
