“Have we trials and temptations?” asks the old hymn-writer Nolan Williams. Everybody I know has to answer, “Yes, we do!”As Paul proclaimed the power of the cross to the believers in Corinth, he reminded them that even God's people are susceptible to sin. For example, he showed the amazing failures of people who followed a pillar of fire and cloud and walked through the Red Sea on dry ground. They sinned with immorality, idolatry, testing God, and grumbling. Their example reminds us that even God's people can fall into sin. “Tempted and tried, we need a great Savior . . .” wrote Elisha Hoffman, another hymn writer. Thankfully, when we are tempted, our Faithful Father offers us an exodus, if we will take it. Will we take it?
