Speaking about the Gospel is preaching. If you've ever told someone about the gospel, about the good news of Jesus Christ, you were preaching…when put like that, it seems pretty simple, right? In today's message, Pastor Mark will share how easy it can be to preach about Jesus, just like any pastor on a stage. There are so many opportunities for you to share your faith by telling people about what God did then and about what He is doing now in your own life. You can even go a step further and explain it, teach it, so people can understand it and digest it enough to have a real-life transformation today!
The people in this historical story were thankful for their persecution. Isn't that crazy?! Can you imagine, going through just a sliver of what they did…that alone would be difficult, but counting themselves lucky to be even beaten for the Lord?! We can barely show up for church every week or pray every day. In today's message, Pastor Mark will ask you how you would and will respond when persecution comes your way. You may live your whole life without even an eye roll for having faith, and you may have to live the rest of your life reading the Bible in secret…no matter what comes, how will you rejoice in the Lord?!

As Christians, we cannot sit aside and say God will handle it. God absolutely can. There is no doubt about it, but that doesn't mean we get to be lazy Christians. God can do anything He wants… whenever He wants, but He wants to execute His plan with YOU! He wants YOU to be involved and active in His good plan! In today's message, Pastor Mark will show you just how important you can be in building up the kingdom of God! You must understand that God can do anything, but He wants to do everything with and through YOU! He's not just looking for “a Christian”, He has special and specific plans for your life!

Listen along as we continue our journey through Acts. Notes//Quotes: Acts 5:17-42 Proverbs 14:30 “Envy is one of the most miserable vices. Most other vices tend to produce some kind of pleasure, however momentary. But envy is nothing but unpleasant, through and through. It is the constant thief of joy. - Gavin Ortlund We can glimpse it in the book of Acts: the method of the kingdom will match the message of the kingdom. The kingdom…goes out into the world vulnerable, suffering, praising, praying, misunderstood, misjudged, vindicated, celebrating: always – as Paul puts it in one of his letters – bearing in the body the dying of Jesus so that the life of Jesus may also be displayed. - NT Wright Ex 34:4-7 “When God describes himself, He doesn't start with how powerful He is or how He knows everything there is to know or how He's been around since before time and space and there's no one else like Him in the universe. That's all true, but apparently, to God, it's not the most important thing. When God describes himself, He starts with His name. Then He talks about what we call character. He's compassionate and gracious; he's slow to anger; he's abounding in love and faithfulness” - John Mark Comer
Ben preaches on Acts 5 and resistance to the Kingdom. He calls us to freedom and hope, as we look to follow God's call on our lives.
Peter appeared quite self-assured as he engaged with the elders, boldly accusing them of the murder of Jesus. Peter knew that God was right there with them, and the Holy Spirit was leading the way. After seeing Jesus face to face, post-resurrection, Peter found the courage to tackle every tough situation that crossed his path. Today, Pastor Mark encourages you to welcome that same boldness into your life. Once you come to understand that you're serving the God of the impossible, you can be certain that He'll empower you to stand strong against any foe. Don't hold back—spread the love of Jesus to everyone around you!
At times, it feels like God's plan can throw you for a loop. He might guide you into a scenario that feels a bit challenging. As a believer, you might find yourself grappling with some heavy doubts, wondering if the plan really comes from God. Today, Pastor Mark shares a heartfelt reminder to put your trust in God's plan. He's got it all figured out and will always equip you with the right tools to tackle whatever comes your way. When you follow God's calling, you can trust that He's got your back and will look out for you no matter what difficulties come. You just need to trust that He will help you through the process.
This text concludes the account of Peter and John's encounter with the Sanhedrin. We see from this passage that there are varying responses to the gospel and the Jesus that the apostles proclaimed. I. The response of the Sanhedrin II. The response of Gamaliel III. The response of the Apostles
Listen along as we continue our series through the book of Acts. Notes//Quotes: Acts 5:1-16 - Jack Reading Title: Smelling Salts “Sin has many tools, but a lie is the handle which fits them all.” - Oliver Wendell Holmes 20 My son, pay attention to what I say; turn your ear to my words. 21 Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart; 22 for they are life to those who find them and health to one's whole body. 23 Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. (Proverbs 4:20-23) “Half of the misery in the world comes from trying to look, instead of trying to be, what one is not.” - George MacDonald 8 Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. (1Peter 5:8 NASB95) 7 Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. (James 4:7 NASB95) “do not give the devil a foothold.” (Ephesians 4:27 ESV) 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.” (Eph. 6:12 ESV) “if God acted in the same way today that he did in the fifth chapter of Acts, you'd have to have a morgue in the basement of every church and a mortician on the pastoral staff.” - Dr. Donald Grey Barnhouse “…you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” (Matt. 16:18 ESV) “Our takeaways from the text should probably be no more and no less than that of the people who witnessed the event: fear and awe. God is a holy God who vanquishes evil and zealously defends his holiness. His judgments are his, and he only makes some of them known. Why did God strike down Ananias and Sapphira rather than give them a chance to repent? How is it that Satan filled Ananias' heart to lie (v. 3) but that Ananias also contrived the sin himself (v. 4)? Why didn't Peter show the same grace toward Ananias and Sapphira that he was shown for his deceit and denial of the Lord (Matt 26:69-75)? We do not know. The text does not speak to these questions, though other passages may help us find answers. Ultimately, though, it's the text that demands an answer from you: Do you fear God?” - F.F. Bruce “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil. Therefore, knowing the fear of the Lord, we persuade others.” (2 Cor. 5:10&11 ESV)
Main idea: Obeying God will result in more persecution but always ends in joy. 1. Obeying God instead of men will result in envy 2. Obeying God instead of men might result in death 3. Obeying God instead of men will result in persecution Discussion Questions: 1. What does it mean to obey God rather than men in your current context (work, school, family, etc.)? 2. Why is it significant that Peter mentions both repentance and forgiveness of sins as gifts given by the exalted Jesus? 3. What might it look like for a Christian today to obey God rather than men—especially when there's real cost involved? 4. When persecution or opposition arises, is your natural response fear, silence, compromise—or joy?

Lies, Miracles, and a Jailbreak? Oh yeah—it's that kind of chapter. In Acts 5, the early church gets a reality check as a couple named Ananias and Sapphira try to pull a fast one on the apostles—and God. Spoiler alert: it does not end well for them.
As a church, we are reaching our community with Jesus. What kind of reactions should we expect? How can we be more effective when we speak about Jesus? What do we need to remember when in an awkward situation under pressure? These are some of the important questions we will answer in this study.

A recent trend in college is students using AI to write their papers. The problem is that the work isn't their work. They are portraying themselves to be better writers than they are. This is called posing. In Acts 5, we see how God feels about posing and why it is corrosive to our lives.

When we reach Acts chapter 5, we see a Holy God interacting with the early church, and it is a heavy story. The Holy Spirit gives the church wisdom as they course correct to maintain integrity and serve those in need. Listen in as we learn more about these powerful stories. thebridgebluffton.com

Peter confronts them, and both are struck dead by God, instilling fear throughout the church. Meanwhile, the apostles continue to preach about Jesus and heal many who are sick. Motivated by jealousy, the high priest and the Jewish Council arrest the apostles. However, God sends an angel to release them, and they return to the temple to resume their teaching. They are brought before the Council again but boldly proclaim that they must obey God and teach about Jesus as the risen Savior and King. Gamaliel, a Pharisee, warns that opposing these men could mean standing against God. The apostles are beaten and released but rejoice in their suffering and continue to preach about Jesus openly. God values honesty, integrity, and sincerity among His people. The deaths of Ananias and Sapphira remind us that we cannot hide anything from God, and when we commit to Him, He expects faithfulness. It may be that these two sought recognition like Barnabas received but lacked the genuine faith to carry out the act of charity. In contrast, the apostles demonstrate self-sacrifice and unwavering commitment to the Savior. They were willing to bear the cost and even rejoiced in the opportunity to suffer as Christ did. God protected them and used their faith to encourage and help others. The opposition faltered in the face of their dedication to Christ. God will also be with us if we show authentic faithfulness. Faithful God, we know that You expect honesty and integrity from Your children. Please forgive our selfishness and hypocrisy. Help us learn from the failings of Ananias and Sapphira and take our commitment to You seriously. Discipline us to live like the apostles, actively assisting others and remaining steadfast in our vocal allegiance to King Jesus. Civil authorities and even religious leaders may oppose our simple, trusting faith. Lord, help us declare, “We must obey God rather than men,” and continue teaching repentance and the forgiveness of sins through Jesus. Train us to be joyful and confident in our Christian walk. Thought Questions: - Why did Ananias and Sapphira lie about the money they gave? How do you keep greed from getting in the way of faithfulness? - Even the shadow of Peter healed people as he walked by. Do you believe in God's limitless power to heal and help today? - Where do you encounter opposition to your faith and your stand for Jesus? What is the right way to handle difficult confrontations?
The Apostles are in trouble again for spreading the message about the death and resurrection of Yeshua of Nazareth, and they almost get the death sentence, but a wise man stand up for them in their time of trouble. Listen to learn how we should be honored to be persecuted for faith in the Messiah.
