Perhaps the creepiest portrayal of an abusive relationship on Star Trek. Saul Rubinek gets called in to guest star with aplomb and embodies an evil that's all too real. Data gets captured by malicious trader Kivas Fahjo, and put on display in his collection of unique items. At least 50% of the artifacts are from Earth, except for the knock-off Salacious Crumb. Data pulls the trigger on his Chekhov's varon-T disuptor and escapes with another captive, but there's always another Varria. Fahjo should receive more praise as a Star Trek villain, which special guest Susan Arendt (@susanarendt on Twitter) makes sure to point out! Get in touch with us on Twitter @ReEngageTNG! One of the best portrayals of social anxiety before we even had a term for it. Lt. Barclay is, um, well, you see, one of the engineering crew of the Enterprise. Or IS HE? Special Guest Lucian Khan comes on to explain his insightful theory that this entire episode is on a holodeck WITHIN a holodeck, and honestly we're all kind of sold on the idea once you factor in some of Barclay's forthcoming appearances in Star Trek Voyager. This is a thinky one about the nature of reality, so put a sock on the holodeck door and come Re:Engage with us! Get in touch with us on Twitter @ReEngageTNG! Susan Arendt joins Ken to review the debut episode of Strange New Worlds, featuring Pike, Spock, and Number One! (The post SNW S1E01: Strange New World first appeared on Transporter Lock - A Star Trek podcast.)
The last “respectable” video game journalist, Jason Schreier, admitted he knew about the sexual misconduct occurring at Blizzard years before it came to light. He claims he wanted to corroborate the allegations before reporting him, but that caution never stopped him from signal-boosting the paper-thin allegations against developer Chris Avellone. We discuss Schreier's hypocrisy and agenda-based reporting along with the latest in the Blizzard controversy, Ash Parrish leaving Kotaku, Destructoid saying a lot of nothing about gender in games, Mary Sue bullying a Twitter nobody over his benign opinions, and Susan Arendt buying a game based on nothing but its protagonist's appearance.

What compels us to sit in a dark room, boot up a game about zombies and cults and killers, and scare ourselves silly? How do these games tap into our lizard brain to get the adrenalin pumping? We put a giant wimp (Angharad Yeo) and a glutton for fear (Susan Arendt) together to figure it out, and the results are frightening.
