The meeting of minds is back! This week, Ross is hosting, as Andy and Drew go head to head to pitch their sequels for the 2010 Sci-Fi legacy Sequel Tron Legacy, directed by Joseph Kosinski (of Top Gun Maverick fame) and starring Garrett Hedlund, Olivia Wilde, Bruce Boxleitner, Michael Sheen channelling David Bowie, Jeff Bridges and Jeff Bridges dead-eyed 2010 digital doubleExpect a lot of chat about how damned good the Daft Punk score to this movie is, a lot of ripping off of the Matrix sequels, and three men absolutely not understanding how computers work. Also, thanks to previous special guest Mike Bithell for inspiring us to pitch these sequels; if you enjoy Tron, digital novels and/or puzzle games, then get yourself onto the Steam store on your PC or the Nintendo store for the Switch and pick up a copy of Tron Identity from Bithell Games. We're back! And what better way to kick off our official relaunch than to bring back Mike Bithell! And as we were able to get Mike, AND there's a new Mario movie on the horizon, we thought there would be no better movie to do than 1993's Super Mario Bros. starring the late, great Bob Hoskins, John Leguizamo and the also late and also great Dennis Hopper. Thrill as we do battle entirely for Mike's approval, and see who has his favourite idea for a sequel! And if you want to hear some more detailed thoughts on the movie, you can support us on Patreon for £2 a month to get all of our full reviews!Mike Bithell is a video game designer, developer, director, and podcaster best known for his work on Thomas Was Alone and Volume. Hi everyone! We're putting this out on the feed for any of you that might miss it on social media. So, we've been going on for over 2 years, 61 mainline episodes and a bunch of bonus episodes too, and we have loved every minute of it. We've had some great fun arguing and coming up with some crazy pitches from Oompa loompas to Dominic Toretto punching asteroids heading to earth. After the new year we planned to do a soft reboot of the show to focus on the competition element and to shorten our review section and give our patrons something special to listen to. We're very pleased with the shape of things, but it's not all been plain sailing over here.A peak behind the curtain here pitch pals. We do this podcast for fun now of course we have a patreon and we are hugely grateful to anyone who subscribes, but we all have boring day jobs and other commitments that we have to balance as well. Something we have been overlooking is our own mental health. We have been pushing on sometimes ignoring the warning signs in our own bodies and minds. We can sometimes overlook men's mental health, and we four definitely aren't immune to that. But it has got to a point in which we need to listen. So after listening, we have made the call to put Sequel Pitch on hold, just for a couple of months. We love our show, and we love what we do, so we are going to rest, recharge, and come back better than ever before! It also gives us this precious time to spend with family, but also work on the podcast like we had wanted to! We love you and all your support you give the podcast. As always, if you know someone you think would have fun with the show we've got over 60 episodes for everyone to listen to! Also, we're still going to put out any SPoilercast we can get off the ground in the meantime, AND we will be back with a very special episode on April 18th with the return of Videogame director Mike Bithell (who is currently hard at work on Tron Identity for Disney, oooooooo), pitching our sequels to the 1993 Mario Brothers movie! So for now it's goodbye, but we'll be back on April 18th

On this episode, we continue our run of indie daring games with this 2012 indie puzzle-platformer. My lovely guest host Deanna and I talk about the journey mastermind Mike Bithell took us with his story about these blocky little AIs. We go in-depth on what's the message of this game, why should we care about these blocks, and how it holds up almost ten years since it's release. Is it worth going into the mainframe to help our block friends or should we just turn off the system? Find on this in-depth, loose, and spoiler-filled conversation. He and Pip are currently in Vancouver, Canada, in the midst of filming in some very airtight pandemic conditions. You can hear all about that, which of course branches out into how life is in Canada, viewing the pandemic from a different country, the attitudes in the US, race and the media, privilege, social media tone deafness, becoming a Twitter celeb (not as glamorous as it sounds), what re-Trump-ing says about you, Mike Bithell and the amazing North Star Rising project he and Pip guested on, auditions, gaming voiceovers, acting, and the many intricate nuances of invoking Bollywood. It’s a packed one and it’s great. Im Cast besprochene Spiele: Song Of Bloom ab 4:45, Stilstand ab 7:33, The Almost Gone ab 8:51, Jessika ab 9:28, Marble Run ab 12:33, Archipelago ab 16:04, Dooria ab 22:36, Spelunky 2 & Rogue Legacy 2 ab 32:45, The Solitaire Conspiracy ab 42:37, Disc Room ab 56:12
This is the first episode in a new spin-off series of The GamesIndustry.biz Podcast, charting the evolution of the industry through the games and careers of prominent professionals. In this monthly show, we'll be joined by developers, composers, writers, publishers and other members of the games industry to discuss five games they have worked on: their first, their last, and three of their choice. Around each title, we'll be exploring how the business of video games has changed, the lessons that have been learned and areas that still need improvement. To kick off this series, we're joined by indie developer Mike Bithell, best known for Thomas Was Alone and his most recent hit John Wick Hex. Don't forget to download our weekly news discussion show every Monday, as well as our other spin-off The Games Developers' Playlist, in which game creators discuss the titles that had the biggest impact on them. As always, you can get more news, insight and analysis into the world behind video games at www.gamesindustry.biz.

Jim is joined by celebrated game developer Mike Bithell, creator of indie hits Thomas Was Alone, Volume, the Circular series of adventure games, and John Wick Hex which is out now on PS4.
Thomas Was Alone released in 2012 and went on to become one of the biggest independent hits of the past decade. It even secured a BAFTA for Danny Wallace, the creator of Yes Man and narrator of the experience. But how did it come to life? In this episode of the podcast, George catches up with Mike Bithell to find out how. They talk about Mike's career path at Blitz and it's eerie similarities to the plot of God of War. They discuss the democratising effect of Unity. And they chat about Mike's voice over day fears, while also attempting to say the word anthropomorphised confidently. -------- You can listen to the 30 Years of Play podcast on Soundcloud, Acast, iTunes and Spotify. Mike Bithell and I talk about an episode of Doctor Who set just 8 years before Doctor Who started. Fuck.
Not content with helping to get Tim Schafer to write my books foreword, Mike Bithell has now accidentally made me start a Doctor Who Podcast. What a git. The first episode of our regular/one-off Doctor Who Podcast. FULL SPOILERS for Series 11, Episode 1 and the fifty-five years that preceded it.
Last month Sam Hughes caught up with David Housden, after his recent work on The Lost Words, QUBE2 and more! David came to be one of the most promising young talents, after his work on the soundtrack for Thomas Was Alone. The game received a BAFTA nomination for Best Original Music and is highly regarded as an indie hit. He then rejoined Mike Bithell for his next game Volume, a respin of the classic Robin Hood stories. His music changed direction with more of an orchestral, rock score and worked alongside Riva Taylor on the vocals for the game. “Drawing upon his garage rock band days, Housden creates melodic, original music scores which illuminate imaginary worlds with real emotion and immersion.” They discuss advice for composers, current state of the industry and beyond!
We're joined this episode by indie figurehead Mike Bithell, developer of Thomas Was Alone, Volume and bitesize text adventure Subsurface Circular. Recorded just a few days after the surprise launch of the latter's spiritual successor, Quarantine Circular, we speak to Bithell about the advantages and potential of releasing games without any marketing build-up. We also discuss the benefits of developing shorter games, the limitations this creates, and why embracing these limitations is the key to crafting a tight and easily digestible experience.
