The Geek Show returns once again to dip its toes in pop culture, science and technology news, and as usual things take a turn for the weird. The big story this week is the Sony-Marvel divorce - which basically means no more Spider-Man in the MCU after the current plans are finished. After that we discover a potential fourth Matrix movie, using goats to prevent forest fires, fossils of comically large birds in New Zealand, Youtube actually admitting to a mistake, robotic exo-shorts, autonomous self-riding bicycles, possibly radioactive vodka, and a story that proves that while the British are just as weird as the rest of the world. After a short break between episodes (on account of one of the hosts moving house), The Geek Show returns for our regular, bi-monthly look at the weird and crusty outer layer of science and technology news with a podcasting taste that really shouldn't be licked. Like that trailer for Cats. Yikes .... Anyway, anthropomorphism seems to be the order of the day as a collaboration of international scientists in China claim to have created hybridised monkey-human embryos, while the Japanese Science Ministry is all for the creation of "humanimals" ... we won't get into that particular discussion though. In other news, McDonald's new environmentally-friendly paper straws are apparently not recyclable at the moment, Ebay have filed a lawsuit against Amazon for trying to steal sellers, mobile phone company Vivo is touting an all-screen smartphone, a UK data science company has developed a new AI program for bars and pubs, a woman was arrested for making counterfeit money on an inkjet printer, a man in Siberia is suing a psychic firm for failing to bring back his estranged wife, researchers in Japan have created a wearable quasi-prehensile tail for humans, and a Malaysian goat has become gone viral because it looks like a K-Pop star. There's lots of fun for all the family on this episode of The Geek Show. It's the final episode of 2018 and The Geek Show is going for a well-deserved break from all of the weird science, technology and "other" news that we've found this year. Before we head off though, Rob and Producer Rob have the small matter of one last show … This time we're kicking off with some big trailer news as the first teaser for Avengers: Endgame finally appeared - and immediately spawned numerous semi-comical tweets and messages to NASA begging them to somehow save Tony Stark. We also discuss the trailer for the James Gunn-produced superhero horror movie Brightburn before moving on to the surprising results of the most-tweeted BBC shows of the year. In other news, the NHS will finally stop using fax machines, a florida-based company believes it can solve problem children, a U.S. border patrol agent goofed explosively, Taipei police goofed with money, an animal psychic (with a rather stunning punchline), Catholic curfews in Colombia, and a rather unconventional vending machine. We apologise for the lateness of this episode - EGX happened so please look forward to our coverage of the event. Anyway, Rob joins Producer Rob for another jaunt through the strange hinterlands of science, technology, culture and society where oddities tower like … well … very odd things really … Kicking things off this week, we find out the unfortunate name of a growing trend that involves watching people studying on a livestream - a story that we discovered back in S15E23. In the main news we discover that Jordan Peele may direct a remake of Candyman, research proves that jet hand dryers are basically air cannons for germs and bacteria, climate scientists join Fortnite to teach people an important lesson, Doctor Who gets a Little Miss book, laser guns are being used as scarecrows, lawsuits about cryogenically frozen heads, UFO landing pads and people thinking that they're elves from Lord of the Rings. Well, apparently Wordpress have decided to kick Alex Jones' Infowars when its down, the oceans are suffering from noise pollution and need "sensitive" hammers (you read that right), blind-date vending machines (again, not a joke), an Amish version of Uber, print your own Tyrion Lannister, horror movie screenings in an active (and very religious), cathedral, the get-rich-quick schemes of small Turkish football clubs, and luxury diapers for pet chickens. Halloween is in the air, but instead spooky ghosts we find a veritable rainbow of apocalypses. Apocalypses as far as the eye can see, from zombie to biblical - you name it we rush on past it like a speeding bullet (but we forgot about aliens because our neighbours in the universe never stop by to say hello). We also have our usual selection of news including cheque clearing finally joining the 21st century, Sooty weighing in on the north-south divide, translation software getting people in trouble with the law and Reuters News Agency buying the last thing you'd ever expect them too. Until next time, keep it tuned on The Geek Show Podcast Network. Like this or any of the other shows that fall under our umbrella? Hoist the sails for another quick trip around the marina with our flagship podcast (See? We can do boat puns). This week Graham and Andrew anchor down for Spiders in Surrey, UK droners, Snapchat hot-dogs and a rather tragic fail for a YouTube wannabe trying to prank way above his station. There's also a discussion on the future of Marvel's post-Thanos Cinematic Universe, along with seamless plugs for our extended podcast family. Yes, you read that right. Seamless. The grand-pappy of The Geek Show Podcast Network returns for another blast of news and geeky conversation. This week we take a look at the title for the new Han Solo film, A member of Blink 182's quest for space aliens, police hover-bikes, and a brand new Stranger Things game. After that, Andy and Rob talk about the future of Virtual Reality - which obviously means a lot of talk about Red Dwarf and Holodecks. You'd think we were obsessed or something ... It's time for another edition of the reliable flagship! This week we're discussing the official death of the Windows phone, the promotion of Facebook's new Spaces application, the safety of self-driving cars and more. We also take a look at what's been happening on the network over the past week before we round things off with sci-fi franchises that we would love to see remade, rebooted or just continued - with obvious stopovers at Star Wars, Star Trek, The X-Files and the current technofantasy flavour of the month - Blade Runner 2049.
