Beth ultimately shares how God faithfully brought both her and her daughter to a place of comfort, hope, and purpose.   IN THIS EPISODE YOU WILL LEARN:   We overcome the enemy by the blood of the lamb and the word of our testimony. Rev 12:11 If you are a believer you HAVE a story because you've been saved by Jesus Christ. My son sent me the link to this Shane and Shane song called "Though You Slay Me". I was honestly afraid to listen because I was afraid I would cry. But I share the words of this amazing song on today's podcast.  I also share some quotes from the C S Lewis book "A Grief Observed". He wrote this after he lost his bride to cancer. His writing is a challenge to read for me - lots of deep thought and big words! But I gleaned some really good things from it. Actually I say at the beginning of the podcast that it is #21 but it is actually #22. Sorry for that mistake! Please rate, review, or click the stars to get the word out about this podcast. It is the ONLY way people can search the topic and find me. I don't make the rules....I just attempt to follow them. Thanks. This is the day and the year the Lord has made - I will be glad and rejoice in it - Psalm 118:24

We open the show with a tribute to Sister Mitchell and the impact that she made through her example and her sacrifice. If you haven't seen the Memorial service please watch the Livestream. Segment One We are pleased to be joined be Pastor Paul Alvarez from Houston, TX for the entirety of this episode. Dave was unavailable for recording, so Paul stepped in at the eleventh hour and did a great job for us. We ask you to pray for him and his family as they are going into the mission field of Guangzhou, China in a few short weeks. We open the show with a word study of the Greek word for rebuke: epitimaō. Epi meaning on, in, upon and Timao meaning honor or value. The literal meaning of the word rebuke is "to put higher honor"! That'll preach! Segment Two We dive into another famous rebuke in the bible, represented by our cover art this week; when Jesus says to Peter, "Get behind me Satan!". The interesting thing is how quickly Jesus' words turned on Peter. In one instant, Jesus is praising Peter for his revelation from God, calling Peter the rock on which He would build His church. In the next instant, calling him Satan and saying, "you are not mindful of the things of God". Isn't it also true that in discipleship, the atmosphere can quickly change from praise to correction? And sometimes both at the same time? It's worth your time to soak in the song from the break, called Though You Slay Me by Shane and Shane. Augmented by a sermon clip from John Piper, you'll be reminded that there is no such thing in the Kingdom of God as pain without purpose. Segment Three Coming in to bat cleanup for us is Paul Alvarez's Dad, Bob Alvarez. We are so pleased to have Pastor Alvarez join us to share some wisdom and experience from 36 years of Christianity and dealing with rebukes. He truly brings out some amazing truth, both how to handle the rebuke when it's given and when it's received. Ask yourself: Is this a rebuke I would give to my best friend, or do I just have an axe to grind? When receiving the rebuke, does your heart get twisted? Please listen carefully as Pastor Alvarez breaks it own for us. In our final break, we hear the well-produced title track of the new NEEDTOBREATHE album entitled, Hard Love. May you find strength, courage and hope in it at as well….~Sarah Schlichte Sanchez   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1b2M93tjzF0   Though You Slay Me (featuring John Piper) by Shane and Shane.   ~"Not only is all your affliction momentary, not only is all your affliction light, in comparison to eternity, and the glory there, but all of it is totally meaningful. Every millisecond of your pain from the fallen nature or fallen man, every millisecond of your misery in the path of obedience, is producing a peculiar glory you will get because of that. I don’t care if it is cancer or criticism, I don’t care if it was  slander or sickness it wasn’t meaningless, its doing something. Its not meaningless.  Of course you can’t see what it’s doing. Don’t look to what is seen, when your mom dies, when your kid dies, when you got cancer at 40, when a car careens into a sidewalk and takes her out, don’t say “That’s meaningless.” It’s not. It’s working for you an eternal weight of glory. Therefore, therefore, do not lose heart. But take these truths and day by day focus on them. Preach them to yourself every morning. Get alone with God and preach his word into your mind until your heart sings with confidence that you are new and cared for.”-John Piper
