ANGELA'S SYMPOSIUM 📖 Academic Study on Witchcraft, Paganism, esotericism, magick and the Occult

This livestream brings together Manon Hedenborg White and Henrik Bogdan to discuss their newly co-edited volume The Magical Diaries of Leah Hirsig, 1923 to 1925, published by Oxford University Press. The book presents, for the first time, a critical edition of Hirsig's surviving diaries from the period when she served as Aleister Crowley's Scarlet Woman and played a formative role within the development of Thelema. These documents reveal a complex portrait of Hirsig as practitioner, partner, and independent thinker while also illuminating the daily workings of Crowley's magical system during a turbulent chapter of his life. You can buy the book here ➡️ https://amzn.to/48AL03NThe conversation will explore the challenges of editing primary sources in esotericism, the significance of Hirsig's voice within a field long dominated by male figures, and the broader implications of her magical, emotional, and intellectual labour for understanding early twentieth-century occultism. We will examine how the diaries complicate established narratives around gender, authority, and the lived experience of Thelemic practice. The discussion will also consider the historiographical value of such material within contemporary scholarship on Western esotericism.Join us on Sunday, 7 December at 5 pm GMT or 12 pm EST for an in-depth conversation that opens new perspectives on a pivotal yet understudied figure in the history of modern magic.CONNECT & SUPPORT

What if the holiday season feels more like “back-to-school” chaos than winter magic—and how do we change that? The holiday season comes with excitement… and a whole lot of pressure. Jessica and Kelly dive into the emotional load of December, comparing it to the hectic back-to-school season and exploring why so many of us feel stretched thin. Together, they talk about opting out of unnecessary obligations, finding joy in smaller moments, and giving yourself permission to slow down. Inside This Conversation:  December feels like back to school with its busy routines. Opting out of obligations can be a form of self-care. Gift-giving can be simplified by involving children in the process. Community initiatives like Winter Wonderland can ease holiday stress. It's okay to say no to events and activities that don't bring joy. Prioritizing joy over obligation is essential during the holidays. Listeners are encouraged to reflect on their holiday priorities. The importance of a smaller gift list to reduce stress. Finding joy in the holiday season is possible with intention. Self-care should be a priority during busy times. In today's episode, Hame sits down with the wonderful Clare Pooley. The globally celebrated author who's blog and subsequent book 'The Sober Diaries' has been been named as THE book that helped so many of our listeners get sober so it felt only right to invite her on!This fascinating conversation ranges from how she labelled and overcame her 'wine witch' (and the surprising role that Game of Thrones played in it!), the 'Best Mum Cup' moment that would mark her final alcoholic drink, why she has never identified with the term 'alcoholic', how her sobriety prepared her for the challenges of being diagnosed with breast cancer and the rules she encourages on any teenager asking about how to drink alcohol. As well as being a fountain of knowledge, Clare was exactly as kind, funny and relatable as you might expect. We hope that this episode can inspire one more person to reconsider their relationship with alcohol to add to the long list!

What if the real reason your motivation fades isn't what goals you achieve, but the way you plan your days?  We open up a counterintuitive truth: the way to lasting motivation is understanding that your brain rewards visible progress toward meaningful goals, not big payoffs.  Using the Progress Principle research on 12,000 work diaries, we break down why tracking inputs you control, reps, learnings, foundation work, creates renewable motivation, while fixating on outcomes you can't control drains it fast.  We get practical and specific.  You'll hear the exact daily ritual we use with clients to turn motivation into eternal fire that keeps you moving as long as needed. Along the way, we address common pitfalls like bloated to-do lists, optimism bias about timelines, and the quiet shame of missed goals. Instead of judging yourself when results lag, you'll learn to inspect the system, adjust the channel, refine the offer, and keep stacking reps.  If you're a founder, builder, or leader searching for a reliable spark, this conversation gives you a simple, science-backed blueprint to keep your internal fire burning. Progress becomes visible, discipline becomes easier, and outcomes become more likely, even if they refuse to happen on your schedule.  Better is always available.  _______THE CHALLENGE:Ready to build systems for health, energy, focus, and consistent productivity? 'I never travel without my diary. One should always have something sensational to read in the train' wrote Oscar Wilde, in the Importance of Being Ernest. In this episode Kate is joined by critic, editor and podcaster Lucy Scholes and regular pod guest Phil Chaffee to explore the intimate world of diaries. Can immersing ourselves in the details of other people's lives offer us valuable insight into how to fully appreciate the passing moments of our own? From gossipy self-mythologising Samuel Pepys right up to the present with the experimentation of Sheila Heti's Alphabetical Diaries, and the beauty and hard-won insight of Helen Garner's Baillie Gifford prize-winning diaries. Also not to be missed, living it up Vanity Fair style through the glitz and glamour of 80s New York, with Tina Brown. And if you enjoy this conversation don't miss Part II, over on the Patreon, where we swap notes on our favourite fictional diaries, consider the diaries we'd love to read if they had only been published and share some thoughts on our own diary keeping. Part 1: Frances Widdowson joins us to discuss her recent arrest at the University of Victoria, the growing political backlash she faces for questioning the official narrative around the 215 “unmarked graves” at Kamloops, and why attempts to open evidence-based discussion on residential-school graves are being shut down on Canadian campuses.Part 2: Tom Flanagan joins the conversation as we examine the collective guilt being imposed on Canadians, the implications of the recent Cowichan Tribes court decision, and what these developments mean for free speech, historical truth, and the future direction of the country.Frances Widdowson is a Canadian political scientist and former associate professor at Mount Royal University who was fired in 2021 (a termination later ruled disproportionate by an arbitrator) after years of public criticism of Indigenous policy, the “Aboriginal industry,” and what she calls the “Grave Error” narrative surrounding the 2021 Kamloops unmarked-graves announcement. Co-author of the books Disrobing the Aboriginal Industry and Grave Error, she argues that many claims about residential-school mass graves lack forensic evidence and have been exaggerated for political and financial gain.Tom Flanagan is a Canadian professor emeritus at the University of Calgary; former advisor to Prime Minister Stephen Harper. Author of books on Métis history (e.g., The Diaries of Louis Riel, 1976) and libertarian policy critiques on aboriginal land claims. Senior Fellow at the Fraser Institute; elected to the Royal Society of Canada in 1996. Recently co-authored Dead Wrong on residential schools, sparking debate on unmarked graves.Tickets to Cornerstone Forum 26': https://www.showpass.com/cornerstone26/Tickets to the Mashspiel:https://www.showpass.com/mashspiel/Silver Gold Bull Links:Website: https://silvergoldbull.ca/Email: SNP@silvergoldbull.comText Grahame: (587) 441-9100Bow Valley Credit UnionBitcoin: www.bowvalleycu.com/en/personal/investing-wealth/bitcoin-gatewayEmail: welcome@BowValleycu.com Prophet River Links:Website: store.prophetriver.com/Email: SNP@prophetriver.comUse the code “SNP” on all ordersGet your voice heard: Text Shaun 587-217-8500
