I was recently reminded how hard it can be for some of us to receive, especially when we are used to being the giver. A young woman I love shared a story about borrowing a dress from her cousin, only to have her cousin offer it to her as a gift. Her first instinct was to say no because it felt like too much, but I could see so clearly that the dress was meant for her, and that accepting it would also allow her cousin the joy of giving. That conversation brought me back to a lesson that I had to learn in my own life. For many years, I felt most comfortable showing up for others, supporting them, and being of service. What I did not realize at the time was that receiving is its own kind of practice. When we resist help, generosity, or thoughtful gifts, we may be blocking someone else from stepping into their own giving energy. This episode is about the natural ebb and flow between giving and receiving, and how different seasons of life ask different things of us. As I move through this big transition, I can feel how much easier it becomes when I'm willing to say yes to the people who want to help. On today's Wise Walk, we are looking at what it means to receive with grace and let support come in without guilt, resistance, or the need to explain it away. At this moment in time, do you feel that you have mastered the flow of giving and receiving? Do you feel weighted in one identity more than the other? Is there an opportunity for you to create more balance between giving and receiving? If you are in a phase of life where you feel like you are receiving all the time, can you look for opportunities to give? If you have been a giver for most of your life, where can you open yourself up to receive more? How can you practice being gracious and simply saying thank you when gifts of giving come your way? What is something in your life that someone gifted you, but you resisted receiving? What was going on in your mind or heart that made you feel it was inappropriate to receive that gift? As you surface that awareness within yourself, are there ways you can look at the situation differently? As you reflect, do you feel that resisting the gift was the right decision because it was not meant for you to receive? Are you resisting because you do not feel worthy? Can you recognize that receiving with grace empowers others to step into their role as givers? Where can you eliminate the stress of feeling like a gift is too much? Are you assigning a monetary value or emotional weight to a gift that the giver is not assigning to it? How can you receive a gift in the way it was intended and allow the giver to give in the way they intended? Is there an item, gesture, or gift in your life that you can cherish not just for what it is, but for the lesson it represents? What gift symbolizes a phase in your life where you witnessed your own growth? How can a gift remind you that you are more than what you have been allowing yourself to be? What else can you invite into your life by showing up and saying yes? As we move through our own ebbs and flows, may we keep finding small ways to give, receive, and acknowledge each other right where we are. Please reach out, share what's on your heart, support whoever you can, and stay open to receiving support too. I'm sending good energy your way, and I look forward to connecting with you again on next Thursday's Wise Walk. In this episode: [03:56] When you grow up being a giver, you can neglect learning to be a receiver. [05:37] The importance of knowing that you are worth a gift. [07:13] By not receiving the gifts we are denying the giver the satisfaction of sharing that gift. [09:14] We are all better when we balance out the ebb and flow of receiving and giving. [10:14] It's beautiful to know that you are worthy of giving and receiving. [13:01] I love the awareness of creating this ebb and flow of giving and receiving in my life. [14:17] Our life and our needs are going to always ebb and flow. The more we can help out and receive when we need help, the better the ebb and flow of life. [15:23] I decided to graciously accept help that will set me up for success with my new home. [16:39] I've gone through so many moments where I give. It feels good, but this is my moment to receive. [17:35] Honor where you are in the ebbs and flows of life. Memorable Quotes: "Receiving with grace is a beautiful thing when you know that you are deserving to receive as well as to give." - Mary Tess "You are empowering others to be givers when you receive with grace, when you receive with love, with kindness." - Mary Tess "Honor where you are, wherever it is, and know that this cycle of giving and receiving will continue on." - Mary Tess Links and Resources: Mary Tess Rooney Email Heart Value Facebook | LinkedIn | Twitter | Instagram

Giving and Receiving are ONE when I use the Light of Divine Vision and Understanding. The light the body's eyes "see" is not the clarity we need to transcend all opposites. There is a LIGHT of GOD's MIND, that is also our real mind, filled with only the thoughts we think with God. In this mind there are not "opposites" or "conflict." We receive what we give, because to give we acknowledge we are in full possession of what we give. We have in full awareness what we give, which increases what we have. We transcend "opposites" and all conflict. I give PEACE and I receive it more. Then I can "rest in God." independent of external war and strife. We offer Peace and Joy and we receive more of those and then we REST in this Divine Peace and Joy.
“Send Coach John a message”Saw an amazing reminder today to always carry around with us, from: Alan Stein, Jr. (@AlanSteinJr) “Always give without remembering. Always receive without forgetting.” There has been many historical lessons from many different sources throughout life - this is one of the main ones for humans to connect with, and yet we seem to struggle with this. We don't keep score of who owes us, but yet, we should always remember those that help us for sure. Again, easy to see on paper but more challenging to put action behind it in our everyday lives! It was also echoed from The Mindfulness Meditation Institute (@TrainingMindful) just a few posts before Alan's. This one shared this thought: “The happiest people are the givers, not the takers.” Both of these remind me of what Professor Morrie Schwartz said to Mitch Albom - from the book “Tuesdays With Morrie”: “When I give to others, I feel alive. When I take from others, I feel like I'm dying.” The world needs more givers. This is something that I'm trying to do more of for sure. Morrie was right. The world also needs more examples to learn from on how to give more too. Thanks for listening. She reminds us to feel the gratitude for simply being here: The memories, the experiences, and knowing all the amazing things still to come up for each of us. Sara shares the great Christmas gift she worked on for her 3 sons. She put together a 70 page book of photos that takes the boys through their lives. She had so much fun putting it together and she is as excited about it as she knows each son will be. A reminder that there can be as much joy for the gift giver creating and giving as hopefully there will be for the gift receiver. Holiday time is a time for rest, a time for festivities, a time for family (whatever yours may look like), and a time for seeing the good in the world. It is time to acknowledge and appreciate the gift in everything, and most important the gift in yourself! Wishing all of you a beautiful holiday and transition to the New Year. Do you hate to receive a favour because then you feel obliged to return it? Do you feel a wave of guilt when someone does something for you? In this episode I talk about the guilt and anxiety in the dynamics of giving and receiving, the impact of growing up with a narcissistic mother has on such dynamics and the number 1 solution that has helped me, and all the clients I shared this with, overcome these patterns. This episode delivers a spiritual message centered around the theme of giving and receiving within the context of Christian faith. It begins with a reference to a song by Ron Hamilton on the labor of love involved in molding a masterpiece, metaphorically aligning this process with how the Holy Spirit works within believers to make them more like Jesus Christ. The narrative then transitions into a devotion series titled 'Married and Miserable,' specifically addressing abuse and the Biblical principle of giving as a prerequisite for receiving blessings from God. The speaker cites various scriptures, including John 3:16 and First Timothy 6:17-18, to emphasize the importance of not placing conditions on God's blessings but obeying His commandments to fully experience His gifts. The video highlights the Apostle Paul's teachings on giving and receiving, using his letters to the Philippians and Corinthians as examples of how giving not only meets immediate needs but also contributes to the spiritual account of the giver. It concludes with a reminder of the joy and spiritual growth that comes from living according to the principle of giving, as taught in the Christian faith. 00:00 Opening Remarks and Invocation 00:18 The Metaphor of Molding a Masterpiece 01:09 The Spiritual Journey of Transformation 01:47 Exploring the Theme of 'Married and Miserable' 02:14 The Principle of Receiving and God's Blessings 04:24 Laying Up Treasures in Heaven vs. Earth 05:45 Paul's Testimony to the Philippians 09:24 The Importance of Giving in Christianity 09:40 Closing Thoughts and Gratitude --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/gnbc/message

In this short episode, we speak about how we respond to things that we may not understand and how that ties into us giving and receiving in life, in terms of emotion or reaction.

How do the 3rd, 4th, and 5th dimensions perceive giving and receiving? The 3rd dimension is characterized by separation, judgment, and duality. It tends to be self-centered, focusing on one's own survival. Giving and receiving in the 3rd dimension can be seen as transactional, with expectations attached. People keep track of their acts of giving. These acts of giving can be held over others' heads and expect reciprocation when desired. Moving into the 4th dimension, there is an increased awareness that there is more to the story. It expands into a wider consciousness, but still holds some judgment and a sense of superiority. Hierarchical structures are still present. Sometimes the spiritual community uses concepts like love and light as tools to manipulate and shame its members. In the 5th dimension, also known as the multidimensional state, there is a constant energetic awareness. The law of mutual benefit governs this dimension, and individuals no longer dump their negative emotions onto others unconsciously. They are able to read the room and have awareness of their impact. There is a conscious co-creation and a desire to contribute. Both personal and collective streams of consciousness are embraced simultaneously, with individuals able to take care of themselves while also considering the well-being of the group. In this multidimensional frequency, the need for external validation or recognition diminishes, and success is not measured in external terms. Money is a tool that God gives us to accomplish his will. However, if not thought of properly, it may cause us anxiety. If the Christian can think properly about who God is and who they are in Christ, it will bring them peace as they make decisions about giving and receiving. Christ has transformed us into a kingdom of priests who trust in God to supply their needs, and who give and receive freely out of love in order to aid one another in times of distress. In Philippians 4:10-23, Paul teaches us three principles of giving and receiving, so that we can rest in God and minister to one another in all seasons of life. This week is part four of a topic we all have to deal with - stress in our marriage and relationships and how to handle the resulting conflict that comes from stress. We've discussed many different positive approaches to conflict in relationships thus far and today, we are wrapping up our series with the topic of accepting influence. That sounds a bit daunting, but when we talk about accepting influence, we are talking about this truth from Dr.John Gottman - "To experience a healthy, powerful relationship, you must be able to be open to influence.” What is influence? It's the ability to receive feedback from someone. It's learning how to be flexible as opposed to rigid in your relationships.

The True Nature of Receiving & GivingAir Date: Wednesday, 22 December 2021 at 5:00 PM ET/2:00 PM PTThis week on Expedition Self, ‘The True Nature of Receiving & Giving'Have you noticed that many times you'll give or receive a gift and feel something other than joy and delight? In this week's show, Sam is going straight to the heart about these mostly ‘untalked about' influencers. We hear often about how it's more powerful to give than receive – a message suggesting that the heart benefits when it is generous and offers more than is being gifted in return. But there's a hidden driver playing a role behind the scenes and it has to do with power, vulnerability, and ‘unconscious' approaches for getting needs met. While the beauty of gift-giving is part of every single day we engage in life, there's a very real tangibility to the human dynamics wrapped around and behind each exchange. When someone is able to gain access to this knowledge, their power is instantly redirected and expanded. This week's show provides an unexpected opportunity to grasp the true nature of your pre-thoughts, why past experiences frame and limit how you approach giving and receiving, and personal patterns that utilize it as a tool to get what you want. You'll learn why you're giving, be able to intentionally bring a renewed heart investment to it and deepen your commitment to the self-responsibility needed if you're going to up the ante on who you're BEING. You'll also have a chance to think about ALL the gifts of life and how you might step towards the embracing of them – even those you would rather guiltily decline. You won't want to miss this week's show because it's sure to help you think about giving and receiving in an entirely different way allowing for MORE clarity, understanding, and substance. Going inside the Self around this topic can alter ABUNDANCE and the caliber of relationship you cultivate with others. It'll be a thought-provoking and inspiring hour. Sam invites you to CALL IN and CHAT LIVE about ‘The True Nature of Giving & Receiving' to further the conversation. Ask questions. Share experiences. This could be the hour that moves you one step further on your growth and development journey.Go to samparrotto.com to follow along and new show updates each week. You won't want to miss being an ‘ON AIR' participant of Expedition Self. Sam will provide real insight, understanding and offer an opportunity to connect a ‘NEW way of thinking' to ‘YOUR way of thinking'.Each week Sam discusses a different and highly accessible aspect of life helping you to build a stronger, deeper relationship with the inner Self so you can become more and more WHOLE.Visit the Expedition Self Show Page https://omtimes.com/iom/shows/expedition-self/Connect with Sam Parrotto on her website at https://www.expeditionself.com/#Receiving #Giving #SamParrotto #ExpeditionSelf #CreativitySubscribe to our Newsletter https://omtimes.com/subscribe-omtimes-magazine/Connect with OMTimes on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/Omtimes.Magazine/ and OMTimes Radio https://www.facebook.com/ConsciousRadiowebtv.OMTimes/Twitter: https://twitter.com/OmTimes/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/omtimes/Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/company/2798417/Pinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/omtimes/

In this next episode in Michelle's series on the Calm Birth meditation program, Anna Humphreys shares her journey to becoming the director of Calm Birth and the altruistic vision behind it. Calm Birth is based in advanced meditation traditions of the Tibetan Nyingma lineage. The Calm Birth practices are evidence-based, non-religious, and rooted in ancient wisdom. These practices are grounded in time-tested techniques perfect for these modern times. Together, these practices teach parents to breathe completely, rest deeply, deepen their bond with their baby, and heal themselves and the world. Anna explains two of these foundational Calm Birth practices: Practice of Opening and Giving & Receiving. "Because when everything else is in doubt, when you don't know what your birth is going to look like, when you don't know what your support is going to look like during that experience, you'll be able to carry this empowering technique that based in breath, that's embodied into any situation, into any unknown. And that's… the power of Calm Birth in the face of crisis."—Anna Humphreys About Anna Humphreys:Inspired by her mother's birth photography, Anna became a birth doula in 2012, and started teaching Calm Birth around the same time. She worked with private clients as well as on-call as a volunteer in hospitals in Southern Oregon. There, she saw Calm Birth help birth-givers stay connected with their bodies and their babies before, during, and after birth. She attended the University of Washington in Seattle for a dual Masters in Social Work and Public Health to focus on learning about systemic racism, the impacts of poverty and inequality on health, and how the climate crisis impacts us now and in the future. At the same time, she was facilitating Calm Birth Teacher trainings, recording new meditations, helping her husband build the app, and running the administrative side of things. At the end of graduate school, she accepted the position of Director of Calm Birth. She committed to applying what she learned about inequities in the healthcare system to my work in this program. This includes working towards being an anti-racist organization, guaranteeing access to classes, materials, and teacher trainings, and working with other birth-related organizations to approach anti-racism from a systems-level perspective. As the child of meditators, she has the felt experience of being connected to her parents during her early days of development. She considers it a high honor to share this experience with tomorrow's children.Connect with Anna Humphreys:Website: http://www.calmbirth.org/Instagram: @calm.birth Facebook: Calm Birth Connect with Michelle Smith:Classes with Michelle: birtheaseservices.com/birth-ease-childbirth-educationFacebook: Birth Ease, The Birth Ease Podcast, Birth Ease Baby Loss SupportInstagram: @birtheasemichellesmith, @birtheaselossssupportYouTube: Birth EaseLinkedIn: Birth Ease Michelle SmithWebsite: BirthEaseServices.com
