Stop Pouring Money into Bad Content: Isaac Cook on Authentic Retail Marketing

"Nobody knows how to make 100 million view videos until they just start posting."  In this episode of Retail War Games, Jeremy sits down with Isaac Cook, former Lead Producer at MrBeast, former  producer for the massive Beast Games production and now founder of White Rock Media and Farther Media. Isaac shares the high-stakes tactical lessons learned while managing $2.5 million production budgets per video and leading teams of over 1,000 people on set. We dive into the granular "science of the click"—from why the shape of a smile on a thumbnail can drive millions in revenue to why the CEO of McDonald's recently went viral using nothing but an iPhone. Isaac breaks down the strategic void many retail brands face: spending millions on massive sponsorships while neglecting the authentic, raw content on their own digital channels that actually builds long-term consumer trust. Whether you are a founder scaling a $5M brand or an executive at a billion-dollar enterprise, this conversation pulls back the curtain on the world's most successful content engine to show you how to turn digital attention into a measurable retail advantage.

When Cynthia Cruz describes Joan Naviyuk Kane’s latest collection as a series of poems that “both shows and enacts how a self is brought to being through the abyss,” I think of Kane’s own words about poetry: as “a place of refuge and possibility, a generative space. Not a space of loss, but contingence.” What is a home in the face of dispossession? Inheritance in the face of rupture and colonial erasure? And what is the role of language on behalf of continuity and continuation? We explore all of these questions and much more, both generally, but also quite granularly within the context of the indigenous circumpolar North. For the bonus audio archive, Joan contributes the reading of a long poem, one that she is still working on, called “Provisionally.” She grants us a sneak peek of a poem that she has been drafting and revising for a year, in its current provisional form. This joins many remarkable contributions— from everyone from Layli Long Soldier to Dionne Brand, Isabella Hammad to Arthur Sze, Jorie Graham to Danez Smith. Find out how to subscribe to the bonus audio, and about the other potential benefits and rewards of joining the Between the Covers community as a listener-supporter at the show’s Patreon page. Honoring Caregivers: How to Find Strength, Rest, and Renewal When You're Pouring Out Constantly

Your Hope-Filled Perspective with Dr. Michelle Bengtson podcast

Episode Summary: Caring for others is one of the most beautiful expressions of Christlike love, yet it can also be one of the most exhausting. Whether someone is caring for an aging parent, a chronically ill spouse, a child with special needs, or a friend struggling through a difficult diagnosis, caregivers often experience emotional fatigue, compassion overload, and spiritual depletion. In honor of National Caregiver’s Day, today on Your Hope-Filled Perspective we are shining a bright and honoring spotlight on caregivers who quietly pour out strength and tenderness day after day. If you are a caregiver who feels seen and unseen all at once, this conversation is for you. Quotables from the episode: In this episode we want to acknowledge the deep emotional and spiritual cost that comes with caregiving, whether it’s caring for children, spouses, parents or someone else. Many caregivers love fiercely yet carry silent burdens. They often neglect their own rest while tending to the needs of others. They juggle responsibilities, appointments, medications, medical decisions, financial pressures, and emotional strain until their own souls feel frayed. If that describes you, know that God sees every moment of sacrifice. He understands every tear cried in private. He knows how heavy this calling can feel. Whether you are in a short-term caregiving season or you have been carrying this responsibility for years, we want to help you find strength, rest, and spiritual renewal. Yet God created rest not as a luxury but as a divine necessity. He invites caregivers to receive the strength they need directly from His presence. Caregivers often do not realize how overwhelmed they are until they are already close to burnout. They believe they should be able to keep going. They think rest is selfish. They feel guilty for asking for help. But caregiving is not meant to be a one-person mission. Caregiver burnout does not happen overnight. It happens slowly and quietly, often while someone is trying to be strong for everyone else. God never intended caregiving to be an isolating burden. Galatians teaches us to carry one another’s burdens. That includes the weight of caregiving. Asking for help is not a failure. It is a biblical principle If you have begun feeling resentful or emotionally disconnected, that is a powerful signal that your soul is in need of restoration. You cannot pour out what has not been filled. I want caregivers to hear this truth. You are not responsible for outcomes. You are responsible to love well and to walk faithfully, but God holds the results. Dr. McLaurin encourages listeners to reflect on their current legacy-building efforts and to take actionable steps towards intentional legacy creation.TakeawaysLegacy is about what you activate in others.Your resume reflects what you did; your legacy reflects who you were.Pouring into people creates a ripple effect of impact.Building something that can stand without you is crucial for legacy.Living your values consistently is key to a powerful legacy.Legacy is built in everyday moments, not just significant achievements. You can start building your legacy right now, with every decision.Investing in others is a long-term commitment to legacy.Your legacy is shaped by how you treat others, regardless of their status.Don't leave your legacy to chance; be intentional about it.Sound Bites"Live your values out loud.""I refuse to leave mine to chance.""You can start right now, today."Chapters00:00 The Essence of Legacy04:20 Three Pillars of Lasting Legacy10:13 Living Your Values Out Loud13:49 Building Your Legacy Intentionally

What happens when you have the ‘perfect’ corporate job at a top-tier firm with a clear path to partnership, but deep down, you feel a pull towards something else? For Alex Marks, the founder of New York’s cult-favourite ‘Sushi Counter’, that pull wasn’t just a distraction - it was the catalyst for trading a high-flying legal career for a world of total uncertainty. Before she was serving thousands of rolls a day, Alex was a successful M&A lawyer at the top-tier firm Herbert Smith Freehills. She loved the late nights, the adrenaline, and the "in the trenches" camaraderie. But a dream transfer to New York became the catalyst for her pivot when she faced an immediate culture clash. Realising the US corporate world was an "individual sport" she didn't want to play, Alex was faced with a choice: Stay in a job that wasn't a fit, or risk it all. She chose risk. Pouring her entire $100,000 USD life savings into an idea, she quit her job and, a week later, signed a lease for a tiny shop to sell the Australian-style sushi she couldn't find anywhere in the city. In this episode of Pivot Club, Sarah Davidson speaks with Alex about this massive industry leap. They unpack the "messy middle" of her entire journey: From the "primitive" Excel model that convinced her to take the leap, to the humbling reality of hand-filling 50,000 soy sauce fish with a syringe in her living room. Alex shares the unfiltered story of how she navigated intense online backlash just one week after opening and how she scaled from a team of one (plus a supportive boyfriend) to a staff of 30. Join us for a raw and practical lesson in naive optimism, a look into the grit required to build a business from the ground up and a powerful reminder that sometimes, the fear of regret is far scarier than the fear of failure.  In today's episode, I sat down with Carey Harnash, the driving force behind the Western North Carolina Whiskey Festival. We explored his journey from whiskey enthusiast to founder of a festival dedicated to education, community, and of course, great whiskey. Carey opened up about his passion for bringing together local distilleries, whiskey lovers of all levels, and supporting the WNC Harvest and Heritage Foundation. We dove deep into the event's unique educational experiences, the importance of responsible tasting, and how the proceeds help food insecurity and local heritage projects. It was a lively, flavorful conversation, and not just because Carey arrived with a bag full of interesting whiskey samples! Carey Harnash is more than a collector of whiskey bottles; he's an advocate for community, hospitality, and discovery. As executive director of the WNC Harvest and Heritage Foundation, Carey works to directly support local charities focused on food insecurity and preserving North Carolina's cultural heritage. His event planning skills previously brought the hugely successful food truck showdowns to Asheville, featured on the Food Network. Now, with the Western North Carolina Whiskey Festival, Carey aims to create an annual gathering where whiskey novices and aficionados alike can taste, learn, connect, and make a difference in their own backyard. "100% of the proceeds [go] to the WNC Harvest and Heritage Foundation. So we're able to grant money to those local charities that do it really well and are very efficient with their funding." ~Carey Harnash Today on Consuming the Craft: • The Western North Carolina Whiskey Festival is designed for anyone passionate about whiskey, whether a newcomer or a seasoned collector. • Ticket proceeds go directly to support local charities focused on food insecurity and preserving cultural heritage through the WNC Harvest and Heritage Foundation. • There are three types of tickets: general admission, VIP (with early access), and a designated driver option to encourage responsible enjoyment. • The festival features educational breakout sessions, including grain-to-glass, nosing and tasting, and finishing techniques in whiskey. • Attendees get to sample a wide array of whiskeys—bourbon, rye, Irish, Scotch, Japanese—and engage directly with the makers and distributors. • The event strengthens Asheville's hospitality and beverage community by highlighting talented local bartenders, makers, and culinary professionals. • Tastings allow for informed purchasing decisions; trying before buying means finding you actually enjoy, and understanding flavor profiles. • The festival is more than just whiskey; it's about bringing people together, sharing stories, and supporting meaningful local causes.Contact Carey Harnash: • Website: www.wncwhiskeyfest.com • Follow on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok for updates and ticket info This episode is brought to you by… McConnell Farms - Taste the Way You Remember. In this episode, Colleen responds to a question many women hit right after real momentum begins: What if I slip back? What if the funk comes back and I lose everything I've built? Using a recent coaching call — and her own very real 5 a.m. spiral — she breaks down why the goal of emotional sobriety isn't avoiding hard days, negative thoughts, or uncomfortable emotions. It's learning how to recognize them early and change your relationship to them before they hijack your nervous system and run the day. Colleen explains why awareness is most of mental health, how negative thought loops become habits, and what actually separates "good" mental health from bad: who's driving the car — you, or your mind. She walks through the five core attributes of a healthy mindset and shows how shifting perspective first is what makes action, clarity, and forward motion possible. This episode reframes funks as normal, growth as uncomfortable, and success as the ability to take ownership in real time — not the absence of struggle.

Wondering why your lead generation efforts aren't landing sales? In this episode, I'm sharing the key difference between decision makers and influencers in corporate organisations - and why targeting the right people will transform your business. Consistency matters and so does knowing who truly holds the budget and sign-off power. Build relationships, but be strategic.  You'll learn why consistency trumps any "magic" lead generation method, and how focusing your energy on the right contacts can be the difference between wasted time and revenue growth. Whether you're a coach, consultant, speaker, or trainer looking to supplement your lead generation, this episode goes deep into practical strategies—and offers actionable advice to help you build relationships that truly move the needle for your business. Ready to unlock the secrets to better B2B sales and start this year off strong? Tune in, get inspired, and learn how to have more impactful conversations (and more closed deals) with the people who count. Key Takeaways: Qualified Lead vs. Influencer: Decision makers are those with the job title, remit, and budget autonomy to actually buy your services. Influencers may champion you internally or help you understand organisational needs—but without buying power, your efforts might not convert to sales. Volume and Consistency Matter: Lead generation isn't about finding a single "magic bullet" strategy. Whether you use email, LinkedIn, networking, or speaking gigs—consistency in executing your method and clear targeting are what drive results. Don't Get Stuck on Dead-End Relationships: If you're spending hours on calls with people who love your insights but never have purchasing authority, it may be time to re-evaluate your prospect list. Pouring energy into non-reciprocal relationships is wasted time (and money). How to Qualify a Decision Maker: Ensure your contacts tick these boxes: Their job title aligns with responsibility for your expertise. They hold autonomous budget. They have sign-off power for purchases. Influencers Still Matter—Just Differently: Influencers can introduce you to decision makers or champion your offer internally. But remember, if a relationship isn't productive or mutually beneficial, set boundaries so your focus stays on revenue-generating prospects. Key Quotes; The Real Challenge of Lead Generation "One of the major challenges is that people aren't always generating the right kind of leads." 00:03:0100:03:05 Why Your Outreach Isn't Getting Results "If you haven't worked on the quality and volume and targeting pieces of whatever, whatever outreach strategy you employ, whether it's email, whether it's LinkedIn, whether it's speaking, whether it's networking, whether it's any executive effort, you are not going to see the result you want." 00:17:2300:17:41 The Hidden Pitfall in Sales Strategies Quote: "Most people are not doing that in their sales process and as a result, it means their sales process is stalled. And it means that they're, I'm going to use the phrase wasting time because they're spending lots and lots of time and energy on cultivating relationships with influencers who are not going to be able to push them up the chain to the, to the actual sale." 00:23:5100:24:16 The Importance of Building Relationships Across All Levels "Even junior employees are important to know because one day they will get jobs that are in leadership positions where they are a decision maker. So it's important to create relationships with everybody." 00:37:5200:37:54 Key Resources Mentioned in this Episode:   Cold & Sold Bundle: Secure your spot at Converting Corporates 2026, get a year's inbound leads, plus access to the popular Cold to Closed course (8 sales calls in 4 weeks, anyone?) .https://smartleaderssell.thrivecart.com/cold-and-sold-bundle/   Episode sponsored by The Expert Services Directory: A key resource for coaches / consultants / trainers and done-for-you service providers to generate inbound leads. When emotions feel tangled or words won’t come out right, God invites you to pour out your heart to Him as a safe refuge. Psalm 62:8 reminds us that whether we speak freely or sit silently, God listens closely and welcomes every concern we bring before Him. Highlights God invites you to pour out your heart—without fear or filtering. Whether you process internally or externally, God can handle your words or your silence. God is a refuge, not threatened by emotion or overwhelmed by honesty. When words fail, the Holy Spirit helps express what’s on your heart (Romans 8:26). God bends down to listen, drawing closer rather than pulling away. David modeled honest expression through prayer, music, and worship. God can communicate what you cannot find words to say—even to others. Do you want to listen ad-free? Full Transcript Below: Pouring Out Your Heart By Cindi McMenamin Bible Reading:Trust in Him at all times, you people; Pour out your hearts before Him; God is a refuge for us. (Psalm 62:8 NASB) Do you ever long for a safe place to pour out your heart? Some people are internal processors. They run thoughts through their minds and at times find it difficult to verbally express what’s on their hearts. At times, I wish I were that way. To the contrary, I struggle with keeping it all inside. As a verbal or external processor, I repeat instructions aloud to make sure I understand them. And I express my thoughts verbally as a way of sorting through them. To my husband, who is an internal processor, that’s exhausting at times. For me, it’s essential. To hold it in is to put a stopper on my heart, and I feel I will suffocate. Until pent-up feelings eventually blow, like an eruption of emotion that can be overwhelming to those I love the most. In the aftermath of a gush of words, there can sometimes be regret. But God is not threatened by my words—or yours. And He’s not irritated by our silence, either. He tells us, in His Word, to pour out our hearts before Him, and then He tells us He is a refuge, a safe place—we don’t need to fear what we said or the words we withheld. He knows, and can handle them all—or none at all. And if you’re one who struggles with how to verbally express how you feel, or when you do, you choose the wrong words, Romans 8:26 tells us His Spirit will communicate with yours and express your very heart to your Heavenly Father. I love how the Contemporary English Version renders Psalm 62:8: “Trust God, my friends, and always tell him each of your concerns. God is our place of safety.” Intersecting Faith & Life: Could you use a safe place when it comes to bearing your soul? Do you need a refuge, a place to hide, when you’re not ready to express how you feel? God is there for us whenever we need to process our thoughts and feelings. He is the Ultimate Listener and the Perfect Communicator. He is the Quiet Encourager and our Comforting Presence. Psalm 116:2 in the New Living Translation says: “Because he bends down to listen, I will pray as long as I have breath!” I love how that verse indicates He will come near us, rather than walk away, when we have something we need to say. He will draw closer—in order to listen carefully—when He knows we struggle with how to express what’s on our hearts, or how to filter our words. As a father with an ear bent toward his loving child, our God will listen. So, pour it out. Or keep it in, and just close your eyes and reflect on being in His presence. He knows exactly what you need to say. He can hear your unspoken words, too. I tend to think David, the psalmist, needed to write music and lyrics in order to express his heart. And I believe he counted on God to help him find words for what he felt, so he could express those words to God and sing them back to Him. In doing so, he experienced God’s strength in the midst of his weakness. What do you need to express to someone today, while you struggle to find the right words? Can you tell it to God instead, or ask Him to search your mind and thoughts and help you convey what you need to say to someone else? Many times, when I’m at a loss for how to say something to someone at just the right time and in just the right way, I’ve asked my heavenly Father to convey to that person what’s on my heart without me having to say anything. He has an amazing way of touching someone’s heart and making them “hear” what I really wanted to say to them, but never found the words to do so. Oh, the overwhelming, astounding love of God. All His ways are perfect, says Psalm 18:30. And through His help, we are strengthened. The next time you need to speak up or hold it in, praise Him for being a God who listens. And then pour out your heart before Him. Your words are safe with Him. Further Reading:Psalm 139:1-18. In early spring, Roxanne visits her neighbor Martin, the local beekeeper, to collect freshly cleaned beeswax from last year's hives. From the golden bricks of wax she carries home, she begins the slow, careful process of crafting beeswax candles for the first market of the season. Surrounded by the scent of lilac, honey, and woodsmoke, Roxanne works with quiet devotion—melting, pouring, and labeling each candle by hand. It's a story about rhythm, renewal, and the simple beauty of creating something warm and lasting from the gifts of nature. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
