I love this conversation with Tobin Zivon, who has been nick-named the “couple's whisperer.” I did some 1-1 sessions with Tobin when I was hunting to find out why my intimate relationships never worked. Working with Tobin was a crucial piece in my healing jigsaw and I'm excited to share with you his wisdom, sensitivity, humour and passion. In this rich conversation we explore the territory of intimate relationships, including why relating can be so challenging, the patterns that kill relationships, ways to deal with charged emotions and triggers, what to do when you are stuck in the dynamic where one partner wants deeper intimacy and the other doesn't want to or doesn't know how to, what makes for a thriving relationship and how to grow more of the good stuff, powerful questions to invite vulnerability and connection, what Tantra is, how to explore a deeper quality of sexual intimacy and listen to the end and you get an opportunity to practice tantra as you listen to the podcast, as Tobin guides you in a beautiful practice. If you are wondering why you are stuck in certain patterns around relationships or curious about what it takes for a relationship to thrive, this conversation has gems that are for you whether you are single, dating or in a relationship. Why relating can be so challenging for people How our wounds meet with another What the ‘bandwidth of familiarity' is, how you can get stuck there and how to move out of it The patterns that kill relationships Ways to deal with charged emotions and triggers What to do when you are stuck in the dynamic where one partner wants deeper intimacy and the other doesn't want to or doesn't know how to The limits of non violent communication Why its important to take responsibility for what's not working in your relationship Why its important to have a guide to support you in your relationship What makes for a thriving relationship and how to grow more of the good stuff Powerful questions to invite vulnerability and connection What Tantra is How we are designed to be tantric beings How to explore a deeper quality of sexual intimacy Listen to the end where you get an opportunity to practice tantra as you listen to the podcast, as Tobin guides you in a beautiful practice. Empowered Relationship Podcast: Your Relationship Resource And Guide
About Tobin Zivon: Tobin Zivon has been a love, intimacy and sacred sexuality coach for over two and a half decades. The author of The Art of Mindful Living, Tobin helps groups, couples and individuals blossom to their highest potential. His brilliance shines most brightly when working with men, women and couples in the realms of love, intimacy and sacred sexuality. Tobin has been lovingly nicknamed the “couples whisperer” and has worked with thousands of individuals and couples to break through to a new, more fulfilling and connected love life. (Please listen to the podcast episode or read the transcript to hear explanations, stories and examples.) In this episode, Tobin Zivon and Dr. Jessica Higgins discuss: How to unlock repetitive frustration patterns and power struggles in relationships. Why and how frustrating patterns start in the first place. The “divine design” present in 99% of relationships. Optimizing love and the two-step dance of embodying our true potential in the areas of love and intimacy. Being armed with the skillful means and tools to get at the root of ourselves and our relationships is the second step. The traumas and imprints within each of us and learning to live with and through them. Common frustrations of the masculine and feminine and how they play into each other. The surprising keys for dissolving power struggles (and what keeps them in place). "If you have the capacity to, first and foremost, meet that [heat] with loving awareness – a willingness to feel - we are starting to drive a wedge into it in that moment. Any moment, any millisecond, that we are feeling, as opposed to letting it run the show or stuffing it down and pretending it doesn’t exist, then we are actually doing that alchemy; we are actually healing a part of our being that was imprinted from before this person who’s in front of us." — Tobin Zivon Mentioned: Facebook: Tobin Zivon Website: TobinZivon.com & Relationship-Mastery-Secrets.com Instagram: @tobinzivon Book: The Art of Mindful Living Book Reference: A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose – Eckhart Tolle Connect with Dr. Jessica Higgins: Facebook: facebook.com/EmpoweredRelationship Instagram: instagram.com/drjessicahiggins Podcast: drjessicahiggins.com/podcasts Pinterest: pinterest.com/EmpowerRelation LinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/drjessicahiggins Twitter: @DrJessHiggins Website: drjessicahiggins.com Email: jessica@drjessicahiggins.com If you have a topic you would like me to discuss, please contact me by clicking on the “Ask Dr. Jessica Higgins” button here. Have you ever felt beyond frustrated that your partner wasn’t living into their potential or wasn’t showing up in the way you needed in your relationship? Have you or your partner ever closed down, shut down, or emotionally punished as a way to try to make him/her change? This maddening dynamic is SO common in relationships. It can show up at different times and for different reasons, but the tension and pain loop is the same. The good news is that you don’t have to stay in this painful tension pattern! It can be transformed! My guest today, Tobin Zivon, who has worked with thousands of couples, explains why the frustration cycle happens and shares the deep process to unwind, heal, and shake loose from it. Tobin has been a practicing intimacy & relationship coach for over two decades and has so much wisdom to share. He also happens to be my partner :) This is our VERY FIRST episode together where I pick his brain on this area of his expertise and share some insights from my own process. In this episode we discussed: The love loop and enhancement cycle that’s possible in relationship The most common challenges and frustrations the feminine face in relationship What to do with the grief and disappointment when your partner isn’t showing up the way you want/need/ know is possible Why closure, anger, frustration, and shut down don’t work as tactics to change your partner or create the shifts you crave in your relationship What causes the common punishing / gripping contraction in the feminine How to discern if the relationship is worth staying in The ways fantasy and being overly focused on potential can hurt your love life Common challenges and frustrations the masculine face in relationship The shadow that commonly arises for the masculine in relationship What causes the masculine to hide and check out in partnership The Men’s Mastery Mentorship starts Oct 2019. For millennia, women have been conditioned to suppress their anger, borne of well-founded consequences such as violence, exile, and even death. Most women carry not only a lifetime of our own rage, but the ancestral traumas of our foremothers. and yet, anger is a natural, healthy part of relating. When we suppress it, anger gets relegated to the “shadow” and wreaks havoc in our sexuality. Eva and Tobin share specific skills on how to bring it to the light for healing. Love the show?
