I’ve been eyeing Jeff Brown on social media for quite some time now. Each of his poignant pieces would reverberate through me with a powerful ,”Yes, Amen, and Hallelujah!” Jeff has a powerful way of articulating the nuances and intricacies of grounded spirituality and love. His teachings are direct and deep, calling out the BS and painful shortcomings of new age culture and spiritual relationships.  Given my history with spiritual gaslighting and my passion for the realness, I knew Jeff was the perfect first guest for Honey in the Heart!  Jeff covers a lot of ground in this episode, particularly the importance of “Enrealment” in relationship. In my practice recently there has been a theme: women confused why they are suddenly closed off, guarded, and shut down to their partner despite things going really great in their relationship. Can you relate?    Maybe you just had an amazing  romantic weekend, and now that you’re back home you’re being snippy and sharp. Or perhaps your new relationship has been soaring, going deeper, and better than any other relationship, and suddenly you feel your walls up. Or maybe it’s when you are toward the end of an intimate and very lengthy conversation, and you just start to lose it for no apparent reason.    It’s like an invisible switch gets pressed, and you are no longer the open, loving, available person you just were. It’s perplexing and frustrating to say the least. This is a common phenomena dealing with Intimacy Thresholds. In today’s show I’ll be laying out why it happens and what you can do about.   IN THIS EPISODE I DISCUSS:   The commons ways that the effects of intimacy thresholds being crossed can show up in your life and relationship Why contraction in relationship is actually healthy and normal The Love Plunger Intimacy threshold definition Why the walls, defenses, and reactivity come online after an intimacy threshold has been crossed What to do when you realize your intimacy threshold has been crossed   Stay in Touch with Mackenzie Website: www.kenzieeason.com Instagram: @_honeyintheheart_   Become an Insider Sign Up to Receive Monthly Love Letters from Mackenzie https://www.kenzieeason.com/lovelettersignup   About Mackenzie Mackenzie wants to live in a world where tears are celebrated and hugs are held just a little longer. Before long my body had become insensitive to the birth control hormones, resulting in a month long period, and then a time of trying various birth control pills with higher levels of hormones. That resulted in me feeling totally f*cking  crazy, out of balance, and eventually stopping birth control. It took some time for my cycle and hormones come back into some sort of regularity. The pain and discomfort was still there, but I was told that it was normal, “That’s just the burden of being a woman”.   After talking to many friends, I discovered that my story of painful periods wasn’t unique. Many of us, including myself, had started to accept the pain and normalize it.   It wasn’t until I discovered vaginal steaming that my periods began to shift it become pain free. Become a contributing member of the podcast + For so long, I was living with the sneaky, yet all pervading belief that I was unworthy. Sometimes it was obvious, and other times it would be the subtle root of so many behaviors. It was amazing to me all the different areas of my life this feeling of unworthiness touched. Relationships, Work, Money, Health. I was also amazed by how strong its effect was, even though I intellectually and spiritually understood that I was worthy of love and all the good things. So many women have this same experience. As little girls, we can interpret life’s challenges, trauma, and cultural messages to mean that we aren’t worth much. It can be like a fog that washes over. For me, it was, and continues to be, a set of feelings that need my attention and care.  I knew this was such an important topic to discuss, and I couldn’t think of anyone better to chat with than Madison Hedlund. Madison has a huge heart, and certain authentic spunk that makes you know that she is real, and that she GETS IT. Madison shares her incredible journey and the intricacies of how to embody your worth and stop people pleasing.   We discussed:   Madison’s interest in connection, God, and truth from a very young age The journey Madison went through as she overcame her trauma and after affects from mental health issues and prison time within her family The stability she found in church, and the later deconstruction and rebirth of her faith The importance of somatic therapy while healing trauma The power of identity and what is actually underneath it all The difference between understanding self worth and actually embodying it People pleasing, “earning” love, and codependency The problem with demanding respect First steps for living your worth and first signs that you may not be Why you aren’t bad or broken The importance of enjoying the process   “If we strip down our beliefs, our emotions, and our thoughts (all of which are ever changing), what you get down to is the soul. The essence of who we are is worthy. If I’m not identified with the things that are changing, the only constant is the worthiness.”   Resources: Website: www.madisonhedlund.co Instagram: @madisonhedlund   Download Madison's FREE journal guide to get started on your path. +Become a contributing member of the podcast +   Money is one of those topics that, uuuuuuuuugh can bring up so many things - full spectrum. For me - guilt, shame, not good enough, contraction, avoidance, and guilt. It’s different for each person. One thing is for sure though, we definitely don’t like to talk about it in this culture. We also don’t provide basic education on how to work with it well. It’s personally one my main healing entry points, and one that is so essential to address if you are going to be engaged in life and not meditating in a cave 24/7.   Over the years I’ve made my way through a variety of approaches to working with money - both spiritual and uber practical, and they seem to miss the full picture. It wasn’t until I came across Bari’s very somatic based money teachings that things started to shift. Bari pieces together all the different layers together in way a that is incredibly nurturing, direct, and effective. In this first episode of season 2 Bari shares some crazy helpful tools and illuminating stories on how we can heal our relationship to money, develop healthy money practices, and find our way to financial happiness.   "Fear, anxiety, anger, sadness, checking out, joy, guilt, excitement - all the emotions that come up in any other big area of life will come up with money too. They are all welcome. They are all part of the terrain."   We discussed: How Bari’s daunting student loan surprisingly propelled her out of her somatic therapy practice into conscious bookkeeping and later money therapy The power of basic financial education - and how the lack of it affects everyone Why we need to address the psychological, spiritual, and practical levels when working with money Money shame - how it shows up and the initial antidote to unravel it The key of the body check-in for any money moments Money Dates - how to set yourself up well Why you need to look at your numbers and identify your money values The inner money judge voice The money differences that can arise with couples Tips for having those tough money conversations and plans with your partner The Art of Money for Financial Happiness Resources: Website: http://baritessler.com/ Instagram: @baritessler The Art of Money School: http://baritessler.com/art-of-money/   About Bari: Bari Tessler Linden, M.A., is a Financial Therapist, Mentor Coach, Mama-preneur, and the Founder of The Art of Money. 011 | Facing Fears and Empowering Women in Surfing, with Kelly Potts

For the longest time surfing was something that terrified me. I was excited by the idea, had been thinking about it for several years, but so scared of the reality. As a water baby, I’ve always been drawn to the water, but surfing was my edge. It never felt really accessible until I met Kelly Potts. Kelly is basically the super rad, badass, yet totally sweet and loving, sister you (I) never had and ALWAYS wanted. I met Kelly while I was working as a massage therapist at a local summer surf camp (shout out to Maui Surfer Girls). I was instantly struck by Kelly’s warmth, aloha, and sense of ease. It wasn’t long after that I found myself at one of Kelly’s free women surf camps for Maui women. Kelly has this amazing ability to make you feel wildly capable, safe, and totally understood all at the same time. Which happens to be the most amazing combination when you are out of your element and trying something new that scares the sh*t out of you. I left Kelly’s women’s surf clinic feeling proud of myself, and also so empowered by the element of sisterhood that Kelly created. Cheering other women as they caught a wave. Feeling my arms shake and my heart soar when I too stood up on my board.  I knew there were some powerful things to learn from surfing, and Kelly was the perfect woman to learn from. In this episode Kelly shares with us her unique journey to becoming a pro surfer, giving back to her community, what she’s learned from being out on the water. In this episode we discussed: How Kelly found her way to surfing & made her own new pathway of sponsorship What helped Kelly work through her own periods of darkness & pain: volunteering The common painful story and trauma she hears most from women learning to surf How Kelly’s Maui Prana Women’s Surf camps began What the ocean has taught Kelly on and off the board Why women are prone to be amazing surfers Kelly’s advice for women facing their fears The power of being uncomfortable   “To be uncomfortable - it is the first part of something really spectacular about to come take over your life.”   RESOURCES Website:  KellyPottsSurfer.com Instagram: @kellypottssurfer Facebook: Kelly Potts: Pro Surfer & Mentor   ABOUT KELLY Kelly Potts’ exuberance for life can be contagious -- all thanks to her life-long participation in sports. As a teen she formed a passionate relationship with nature when she took up surfing, marrying sport with the outdoors, and since then has centered her life around adventure and wave hunting. It is with no surprise that Kelly decided to share the great gifts she gained through surfing with her Maui community, and for the past five years has proudly provided free surfing clinics and retreats for local females of Maui and Indigenous girls and women on the Pacific Northwest. Through the sport of surfing Kelly helps females discover their inner lordess, while perpetuating sisterhood.   +++ SHARE THE MEDICINE WITH YOUR SISTERS +++ If you were served by this episode, please share with your tribe, subscribe, and leave a rating or review by clicking HERE   +++ CONTRIBUTE +++ Embodied Empowered Engaged is a one woman show. During a big and slightly (very) tumultuous transition moving to Maui, it was recommended to me that I book a session with the woman named Juna. I had experience with channels or other intuitives before, and usually left those sessions feeling a bit disempowered and pretty disappointed. Something in me told me to give her a shot, and I thank god I listened to that voice! My first session with Juna helped me realign my life with supremely clarity and groundedness. I felt empowered and reconnected in a way that I was really needing. Juna has been an incredible ally for me ever since - often wishing I could have her on speed dial and available to me at any given moment! Juna is tapped in, grounded, wise, and crystal clear. She is a rare precious gem on this planet, and her insights from her own journey, and also her work with clients is raw, real, and powerful.   Tune in as Juna shares with us: Her transformative moments of learning, awakening, and falling to her knees How the feeling of “not enough” showed up in her life and what helped her move through depression Her definition of Intuition  and how we can use the body to utilize it. The difference between the path of following truth and the path of what is easy Her continued journey with Anger and what she did when it wouldn’t go away What it takes to be in a healthy relationship with Anger and access what it is here to teach us Her current living edge of transition, surrender, and sharing her gifts in a bigger way   ABOUT JUNA MUSTAD Juna is a woman who wears many hats. She is a life & relationship coach, an intuitive, a mindfulness facilitator, a leadership coach and trainer and a somatic experiencing practitioner.
