A title change is not a culture change. In this episode, Mark Graban draws on his early experience at GM in the mid-1990s — where "foreman" became "team coordinator" overnight without anything else changing — to explore why renaming supervisors with Lean-sounding titles so often fails to deliver Lean results.Read the blog postThe discussion centers on Ford's Process Coach role: what it's supposed to be, what it often is in practice, and why the gap between those two things is a leadership system problem, not a training problem. Mark also looks at why Toyota's Group Leader model works where Ford's equivalent often doesn't — and why a senior UAW worker has rational, concrete reasons to turn down a promotion to Process Coach even if they're the most qualified person on the floor. If your organization has rebranded its supervisors without redesigning the conditions those supervisors work in, this episode is worth your time.

"We inhibited a brain region and connectivity went up. I thought it was an artifact..."Dr. Alessandro Gozzi is a systems neuroscientist investigating how the brain functions as an integrated network and how disruptions in that network relate to behavior and mental health. He is Senior Scientist and Group Leader of the Functional Neuroimaging Laboratory at the Italian Institute of Technology in Rovereto, Italy. His research combines fMRI, functional ultrasound imaging, optogenetics, chemogenetics, electrophysiology, and computational modeling to decode the neural underpinnings of brain connectivity in rodent models, with the goal of bridging circuit-level findings to human psychopathology. In this conversation, Dr. Gozzi unpacks what resting-state fMRI connectivity actually reflects and why the answer may be more surprising than the field assumes. Drawing on a series of elegant chemogenetic and pharmacological manipulations in mice, he reveals how regional excitability, rather than direct synaptic communication, may be a dominant driver of the connectivity patterns we observe. Within this context, the conversation explores the paradoxical relationship between neural silencing and hyperconnectivity, the evolutionary conservation of brain networks across species, and what rodent models of autism can and cannot tell us about human psychiatric disorders. Join the conversation to discover how mechanistic animal studies are reshaping our understanding of human brain connectivity. We hope you enjoy this episode!Chapters:00:00 - Introduction to Dr. Alessandro Gozzi05:12 - Gozzi's Unconventional Journey into Neuroscience13:17 - Transitioning from Industry to Academia20:49 - The Relevance of Rodent Models in Understanding Autism32:04 - Exploring the Complexities of Brain Connectivity38:57 - Excitability and Its Role in Connectivity Patterns42:27 - Exploring fMRI Connectivity and Local Computation45:28 - The Role of the Hearst Index in Brain Activity54:00 - Implications for Treatment in Psychiatric Disorders58:42 - The Intersection of Biology and Neuroscience Research01:07:08 - Balancing Life and Science: Personal ReflectionsWorks mentioned:00:12:48 - Gutierrez-Barragan, D. et al. Modern men are struggling… but most are suffering in silence.   In this episode of The Super Human Life, Coach Frank Rich sits down with Troy DaRonco, relationship coach and cofounder of Groups For Men, to explore the growing epidemic of male isolation, emotional suppression, and broken relationships.   After working with thousands of men over the past 15 years, Troy has seen the same pattern again and again: men were never taught how to communicate emotions, build brotherhood, or lead healthy relationships.   Instead, they were taught to "figure it out alone."   Frank and Troy unpack the deeper roots of this struggle—from fatherlessness and the absence of mentors to the modern distractions that keep men disconnected from themselves and each other.   They also dive into the emotional and relational skills men must develop to build trust, create safety in relationships, and step into stronger leadership in their lives.   The conversation also explores the connection between emotional pain and coping mechanisms like pornography, addiction, and avoidance—and why real transformation starts when a man gets clear on the life he wants to build.   If you're a man who has ever felt isolated, stuck, or unsure how to move forward, this episode will challenge you to step into a stronger version of yourself.   Expect to learn: Why so many men are experiencing deep loneliness and isolation   The impact of fatherlessness and lack of male mentorship   Emotional skills men must develop for healthy relationships   Why women test a man's emotional strength   How brotherhood and tribe change everything for men   Why addiction often begins as an attempt to escape pain     The importance of defining the man you want to become     About Troy DaRonco Troy DaRonco is a men's coach, relationship expert, and cofounder of Groups For Men.   For over 15 years, he has helped thousands of men develop emotional intelligence, strengthen relationships, and build authentic brotherhood through group facilitation and coaching.   Through Groups For Men, Troy and his team host weekly men's groups focused on relationships, conflict resolution, and personal growth.   Learn more at groupsformen.com   --- Connect with Frank and The Super Human Life on Social Media: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/coachfrankrich/   Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/584284948647477/   Website: http://www.thesuperhumanlifepodcast.com/tshlhome   YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCjB4UrpxtNO2AFtDURMzoKQ

Last week, Lux convened about 300 AI engineers, scientists, researchers and founders in New York City to discuss the frontiers of the field under the banner of “the AI canvas.” The idea was to move the conversation away from what can be built, to what should be built and why. AI tools have made extraordinary progress since the launch of ChatGPT in late 2022, and we are still just figuring out all of the ways we can use these miraculous correlation machines.Even so, there remains prodigious work on the research frontiers of artificial intelligence to identify ways of improving model performance, merging models together, and ensuring that training and inference costs are as efficient as possible. To that end, we brought together two stars of the science world to talk more about the future of AI.Kyunghyun Cho is a computer science professor at New York University and executive director of frontier research at the Prescient Design team within Genentech Research & Early Development (gRED). Shirley Ho is Group Leader of Cosmology X Data Science at the Flatiron Institute of the Simons Foundation as well as Research Professor in Physics at New York University.Together with hosts Danny Crichton and Laurence Pevsner, we talk about the state of the art in AI today, how scientific discovery can potentially be automated with AI, whether PhDs are a thing of the past, and what the future of universities is in a time of funding cuts and endowment taxes.
