On this episode of the SLPS our heroes are taking a strange journey from the dinosaur filled prehistoric era all the way to the robot filled future. Yes, on this episode they'll be discussing YOR, THE HUNTER FROM THE FUTURE. Directed by Antonio Margheriti under the pseudonym Anthony M. Dawson and written by Margheriti and Robert Bailey. Set before the dawn of time, strange savage beasts roam the land and cave people fight for survival. YOR is the mightiest hunter around but walks alone without a tribe. YOR’s origins are unknown, and the only clue he has it a mystical golden medallion that he’s had around his neck since he was a child. Yor sets on a quest of discovery along with two new companions, a priestess named Kala and her protector Pag to find where he fits in this wo rld. YOR, THE HUNTER FROM THE FUTURE was by far the most successful film Margheriti directed but was critically panned by the likes of Variety, the New York Times and the Washington Post which claimed “Even gluttons for dumbness may find it easy to refrain from second helpings”. To top it all off, YOR was nominated for three Golden Raspberry Awards. However, that being said, the film lives on today with a strong cult following and even the director admits it’s not a great film, but he’s proud of it. As always, please rate, review and subscribe on your favorite podcast app as we really appreciate it. On this week's episode of the Shamelist Picture Show both Michael and Nick re-unite! Plus, they discuss HEATHERS, which is one of Michael's favorite films. Heathers, directed by Michael Lehmann from a script drafted by Daniel Waters tells the story of young Veronica Sawyer and the agony of being in high school. Veronica is a member of a very elitist, color coordinated sect of popular girls aptly named The Heathers based on the fact that all of their names are Heather. Veronica is blasé about it all and unhappy, that is, until she meets the very mysterious Jason Dean. Jason Dean is, as Veronica describes, “a dark horse in the running”. He’s not the typical kind of guy with his look, his interests… and the fact that he’s probably a sociopath. After accidentally killing the head of the Heathers and disguising it as a suicide, Veronica and JD head down a dark road of killing for the sake of making their high school a better place. This very dark comedy stars Winona Ryder, Christian Slater, Shannon Doherty, Lisanne Falk and Kim Walker and was released by New World Pictures in 1988. What did we think of the movie? Listen and find out! Also on this episode is a short cameo by Twisted Dreams Film Festival co-founder Stephen Milek where he discusses seeing HEATHERS for the first time! As always we're available on SoundCloud, iTunes, Stitcher Radio and Google Play! Like, Rate and Subscribe!
Twisted Dreams Film Festival, founded in 2011 by Christopher K House and Stephen Milek, two friends with a passion for the silver screen. Chris can thank his parent's for his obsession with horror and the macabre. Both being horror fans, Chris grew up watching old horror films, specifically the Universal Monsters collection of fright films. He was born into a family of magicians and was weaned on sideshows and carnivals bringing a unique perspective to the festival. He is a member of the Online Film and Television Critic Association. A lover of all movies, Steve will watch anything from classic silent films to modern big budget action films. After attending the Sundance Film Festival a few times he always wondered what it would be like to start his own film festival. Over time he became obsessed with the Oscars and for his first blog he watched every Oscar Best Picture winner in chronological order. What started out as a simple blog about movies, it grew to have an emphasis on local films and filmmakers. They wanted a true horror film festival in Milwaukee that showcased the best in not only local but also international horror, dark comedy and sci-fi films. The first year was a major hit with filmmakers and guests coming from all over the country and Canada. The duo plan on having the fest a yearly event and hope it grows each year.
