Episode Notes:The research focuses on analyzing the representation of passwords and cyber threats in films, particularly how password guessing and hacking scenes influence public perceptions of security.Movies both reflect societal attitudes towards cybersecurity and shape them, as many viewers learn about cyber behaviors through entertainment rather than formal education. The research indicates that films often oversimplify or dramatize hacking scenes, leading to unrealistic expectations about password security.A key finding from the research is that while weak passwords (e.g., “12345”) are mocked in films, even strong passwords are often guessed or hacked with ease, sending the wrong message to audiences about the value of strong security practices. There may be value to educating the public about cybersecurity in the same way people are taught first aid in Germany—everyone should know the basics. One of the challenges of using crowd-sourced subtitle data for academic research was that it required additional work to assure reviewers that the research is ethical.About our Guest:Maike Raphaelhttps://www.itsec.uni-hannover.de/en/usec/team/raphael Papers or resources mentioned in this episode:Raphael, M. If you are interested I would recommend having a look at the password scene from Horse Feathers (1932) with Groucho Marx, and there is a scene in Iron Man 3 (2013) where Tony Stark asks James Rhodes for his password, and everyone laughs at the bad password. I recommend you watch Kung Fury from 2015 for their parody treatment of the "hackerman". It is actually on YouTube https://youtu.be/bS5P_LAqiVg?si=-OL8Mr1OLY9Dd081

Andrew joins Ben this week for a spork-tacular show (in cover art only); and here is your Halloween surprise… a no candy, prank-less, normally dressed, scare-free episode… that is the PREMISE! After voicing his focused excitement about a forthcoming child and how it has impacted his short term view of his job, Andrew tries Hot Honey flavored Pringles. The film stars Sandberg in the title role, Jorma Taccone, Leopold Nilsson, and a cameo appearance by David Hasselhoff. The film was crowdfunded through Kickstarter in the beginning of 2014, with pledges reaching US$630,019, exceeding the original target goal of $200,000, but short of the feature film goal of $1 million. It was selected to screen in the Directors' Fortnight section at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival, losing to Rate Me from the United Kingdom.Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsoFB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulich

You guys, when I tell you this book is bonkers, I'm not sure I'm making myself clear. Monster by Frank Peretti is a wild ride of racism, creationism, and misogyny; the author tries to hide all this behind a thin veneer of bigfoots but we see right through it. This week we have very special guest Kylan Savage of the podcast Church Jams Now! It's a podcast where three former youth group kids talk about the christian music they listened to as youths with a critical eye, daring to ask whether or not those church jams were indeed bops or if they are in fact nots. We also ponder the ramifications of this science and the 'fake meat' industry. https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2023/01/230113112804.htm Big Question: Why are anachronistic elements in fiction so cool? We talk about Willow and dark City before Steven goes on his rant about Star Trek not being anachronistic but Star Wars is. Ben dives into tvtropes.org and we investigate the 'film' Kung Fury. Ben goes off topic and tells us about Lil Gator Game and his son, but then we refocus and talk about different sub-tropes of anachronisms. Steven finds that he doesn't like unexplained future-tech in the past. Lastly, Steven dives into Century by Alan Moore and spoils the whole thing. Patreon Only: We talk about Babylon 5, The Bad Batch and A Psalm for the Wild-Built.
The one where Green Blooded Bastard watches Kung Fury. This movie is like if baby Jesus got a blow job from a kung fu master and shit this movie out.
This week on the Bloody Good Film Podcast we had to pivot from our regularly scheduled episode. Luckily we aren't like other podcasts, and when something goes wrong we make sure that you still get some "quality" content. So for the next installment of Thankful For Action November, instead of Parole Violaters (which rumor has it may still be coming) you get the incredible martial arts comedy short, Kung Fury. So join us as we discuss the Hoff and arguably one of the greatest theme songs of all time. We discuss dinosaur partners, cheesy one liners, and even debate who has the better facial hair. It may not have been what you expected, but you won't be Kung Furious that you listened to this emergency episode. More importantly we give you the answer to our weekly question...Is Kung Fury a bloody good film?We encourage everyone to watch along while you listen and make sure to comment and let us know what you think. The Fellas are taking you back this episode, to a time when they had focus, worse equipment, recording etiquette, and barely a bed time at all. Turns out, Kevin has really always been loud, and Douglas has always been a snarky lil pup. If you haven't seen Kung Fury, this episode is twice as long and the Fellas think about the plot twice as much as the director himself. Take a load off and listen to the dulcet tones of the Fellas dropping knowledge and low hanging jokes.

We listen to Mike's moving woes but then learn of a secret treasure he carries into his next house: The Great Thai Fertility Talisman that the fellas used for their low-budget pilot production. Somehow they get on the topic of Demi Lovato and gender reveal parties and come up with a more PC version. Mike is deeply engrossed in "Wanda Vision," Marc loves "Search Party," and everyone need to re-watch "Kung Fury."
