From earlier years of growing up in the Caribbean, I clung to a deep belief that I would someday realize my dream of going to America to pursue my goal of getting a higher education, but it would take some preparation to attain this goal. I would need to be prepared emotionally, physically, psychologically and spiritual to attain such an accomplishment. I knew my parents had given me the tools to trust in a Higher Power for the spiritual support I would need to take on such an endeavor, but I knew I needed to focus on other areas of my life to create the whole wellness that I needed. Because I had incurred a lot of grief, fears and traumas already, I had become an emotional eater. I ate when I wasn't hungry and I ate many of the wrong things so I was often emotionally and psychologically stressed. I was totally out of balance. I needed to practice self-love and self-care so I could love myself unconditionally. I needed to LOVE MY BODY BETTER and be more MINDFUL of how I was LIVING.

Lynch, PhD www.createwhole.com www.blissedretreats.com   It was Thanksgiving night, 2014, at our wellness retreat center and vacation home, in the low country of South Carolina. I was standing, washing dishes, and looking out the kitchen window after a wonderful seven course meal, when I began to feel excruciating pain. This pain was in my lower back, and it radiated below my knees, and down to the calves and ankles of both my legs. This was not only shocking and surprising, but somewhat embarrassing because we had guests for the holiday weekend and I knew I would not be able to fully engage with them. I finally had to reveal the painful new discovery to my guests, who concluded that it must be sciatica. They readily gave me exercises, similar to yoga postures, to help relieve the pressure. Needless to say, I found little relief. However, I continued with the suggested exercises, in addition to my usual workouts and stretches for months, but to no avail.
