The last few weeks have brought us stories of horrific violence - a shooting during mass at a Catholic school in Minneapolis resulting in dozens of injuries and two dead children, a senseless murder of a young woman on a train, who came to our country for a better life, then the assassination of political leader, Charlie Kirk, killed in cold blood while debating students on a university campus. The next day was... September 11. Twenty four years after I saw my city come to its knees. (I'm a former New Yorker.) I knew the world would never be the same that day. I felt the same way when that bullet ripped through Charlie Kirk's throat - we'd crossed a line. Again. The world will never be the same. And I found myself, as I often do, soul searching: "What is the root of this violence?" On this special episode of "The Work of Being Human," I analyze the tragedies we've witnessed in the last month as well as the root of violence that is exploding in our nation. It's not political. It's not ideological. Tune in for more.I love hearing from you: contact@vanessabentley.co

Are you feeling sick, getting migraines, or experiencing chronic fatigue without knowing why? Your body might be telling you that you're trapped in toxic patterns from unhealed childhood trauma - but there's a proven path to break free and create the love and life you deserve. In this powerful episode, Rebecca Greene interviews Riana Milne, a licensed mental health counselor and relationship coach who has identified the 10 most common childhood traumas that create toxic patterns in adult relationships. Riana shares her groundbreaking research on how unhealed childhood trauma leads to love trauma, and explains her holistic mind-body approach to healing that has helped thousands break generational cycles of dysfunction. From recognizing toxic patterns through physical symptoms to learning the mindset tools for success, this episode provides a comprehensive roadmap for transformation. Riana also shares inspiring stories of her own daughters' successes, demonstrating how positive parenting and mindset work can create extraordinary outcomes. 5 Key Takeaways ➤ Your Body Tells the Truth About Toxic Relationships - Physical symptoms like migraines, stomach issues, chronic fatigue, and sleep problems are often your body's way of responding to constant abuse and trauma in relationships. ➤ The Top 10 Childhood Traumas Create Predictable Adult Patterns - From addiction issues in parents to abandonment, verbal abuse, and sibling dynamics, these traumas show up as jealousy, people-pleasing, impulsivity, or inability to apologize in adult relationships. ➤ Healing Must Address Both Childhood and Love Trauma - Research proves that unhealed childhood trauma causes love trauma as you age, requiring a holistic mind-body approach rather than just medication to treat symptoms. ➤ Consistency Over Time Equals Trust - Whether rebuilding relationships with your children or partner, the mathematical equation for healing is showing up consistently with new behaviors over time to rebuild trust.➤ Mindset Work Creates Extraordinary Success - Teaching children early that they can achieve whatever they dream, combined with positive verbal messaging and spiritual grounding, creates confident adults who can manifest their goals. Powerful Quotes from Riana Milne"You can't change what you don't know, acknowledge or understand. If I could understand it for me, I could help teach my clients.""Create the life you desire, and when you do, you then have the love you deserve. Both of my girls married really amazing men because they learned these skills early." Traumas de infancia y decisiones adultas by CCRTV
Your body is always speaking—through pain, posture, and even memory. In this episode, Dr. Colby Lovelace joins CJ to explore how neuromechanics, fascia, and neurotags reveal the hidden roadblocks to healing. Discover how listening to your body restores balance, wholeness, and flow.In this episode, CJ welcomes Dr. Colby Lovelace, a highly accomplished chiropractor with a background in Nutritional Sciences, Health and Wellness, and a Doctorate of Chiropractic from Parker University. With certifications in sports injury management, concussion treatment, rehabilitation, and hyperbaric oxygen therapy, Dr. Colby brings a wealth of knowledge about how the body heals, adapts, and restores balance. Together, they explore what it truly means to listen to your body and honor its innate wisdom through the lens of neuromechanics.Dr. Colby explains the fascinating science of fascia—the connective tissue that links every part of the body in patterns of motion. He reveals how movement, even in simple forms, shifts fluid dynamics, stimulates neurological input, and restores the body's natural symmetry. A release in one part of the body can affect another far away, reminding us that healing is always about wholeness. CJ connects this to his own creative practice, where he encourages art students to move before they paint—because movement unlocks not just physical energy but mental and emotional flow.Listeners will also discover how movement can awaken memory, spark creativity, and shift brain function. Dr. Colby discusses how senses like smell and motion activate different regions of the brain, enhancing learning and dissolving blocks. He introduces the concept of neurotags—stimuli that can trigger old memories, emotions, or pain responses—and explains how movement and myofascial release can help rewire those patterns. Pain, he reminds us, is not just a nuisance but a message—a call from the body to pay attention and move differently. At the heart of Dr. Colby's philosophy is the belief that the body is a self-healing mechanism, equipped with innate intelligence. Sometimes, all it needs is for us to remove the roadblocks—whether they stem from thoughts, traumas, or toxins—the three T's that most often disrupt balance. This conversation is a powerful reminder that health is not about forcing the body, but about listening, aligning, and allowing it to return to its own symmetry. Episode Summary:Today I sit down with Emma Tynan, an Irish psychotherapist who specializes in medical trauma and chronic illness, bringing both professional expertise from over a decade as a nurse and personal understanding from her own chronic health journey. We explore the often-overlooked micro-traumas of chronic illness—how the real devastation often hits not during the big diagnosis moment, but in quiet daily realizations like the day you can't hold a spoon or write in a journal the way you used to.In this episode, we discuss:Why the recovery period after treatment can actually be the hardest timeThe unique challenges of having symptoms without a diagnosisHow to work with "different versions of yourself" each day using Emma's "money in your purse" approach to energy managementWhy our goals often need to shift from doing more to doing lessHow family and friends can unintentionally add to trauma through well-meaning but invalidating responsesEmma offers practical guidance for both those living with chronic illness and the people who want to support them, emphasizing that there's no universal experience of illness and the most powerful thing we can offer is simply asking and listening rather than assuming we know what someone needs.MEET DESTINY: Website / Instagram / BlueSky / YouTube / TikTokMEET EMMA: WebsiteSIGN UP FOR OUR NEXT LIVE WORKSHOP→Nervous System-Informed Care for Living With A Chronic Illness

Ocean Eagle: Embracing Our Traumas Through Breathwork | The Hopeaholics PodcastIn this riveting episode of The Hopeaholics Podcast, Ocean Eagle, a recovery advocate, author, and breathwork facilitator, shares his profound journey from a traumatic childhood to over 25 years of sobriety and spiritual awakening. Born in Palo Alto and raised across California and Texas amidst the chaos of alcoholic parents, Ocean survived a violent upbringing marked by his father's abuse and the loss of his brother to a tragic car accident at 22. After totaling four cars and earning three DUIs by age 25, Ocean hit rock bottom, triggered by a confrontation with his father's disapproval during a quadruple bypass recovery. This pivotal moment led him to Alcoholics Anonymous in Burbank, where a heartfelt embrace from a stranger sparked his commitment to sobriety at 30. Now 56, Ocean has transformed his pain into purpose, having facilitated 16 women's and veterans' retreats, authored seven books, including The Gift of Desperation, and developed a powerful breathwork practice to help others heal trauma. He candidly discusses overcoming three sober divorces, raising four children, and embracing his spiritual calling as “Ocean Eagle,” a name gifted during a transformative retreat. Ocean's message, “Judging mistakes hides life's beauty,” resonates as he guides others to balance masculine and feminine energies and release past wounds.#thehopeaholics #redemption #recovery #AlcoholAddiction #AddictionRecovery #wedorecover #SobrietyJourney #MyStory #RecoveryIsPossible #Hope #wedorecover Join our patreon to get access to an EXTRA EPISODE every week of ‘Off the Record', exclusive content, a thriving recovery community, and opportunities to be featured on the podcast. https://patreon.com/TheHopeaholics Follow the Hopeaholics on our Socials:https://www.instagram.com/thehopeaholics https://linktr.ee/thehopeaholicsBuy Merch: https://thehopeaholics.myshopify.comVisit our Treatment Centers: https://www.hopebythesea.comIf you or a loved one needs help, please call or text 949-615-8588.
