In this landmark 150th episode, Sue Stockdale talks to Kris Tompkins, one of the world's most prolific conservation philanthropists. Kris shares a powerful, personal perspective on what drives her and urges listeners to ditch the myth of individual powerlessness: “The excuse that ‘I'm just one person' - that's the weakest, nonsensical excuse there is. One person, it does matter.”In the conversation, Tompkins reflects on how her business experience helped shape a vision for nature conservation at scale, highlighting themes of risk-taking, leadership, and the power of direct engagement. She reminds us that the gritty, uncomfortable days in nature often leave the strongest impressions: “I like people being miserable in the national parks - those are the days we remember.”About Kris TompkinsKris Tompkins is the president and co-founder of Tompkins Conservation, and former CEO of Patagonia, Inc. For three decades, she has committed to protecting and restoring wild beauty and biodiversity by creating national parks, inspiring activism, and fostering economic vitality as a result of conservation. I like people being miserable in the national parks as those are the days we remember- the days you were freezing. The excuse that “I'm just one person”. That's the weakest, nonsensical excuse there is. One person, it does matter.People have to decide that they want to participate in something more than what they currently have in their daily life. They see what's going on in the outside world and they want to do something. And that's a decision. And that's probably the most difficult step of all. On this episode we are talking about mindset and resiliency with my guest Scott Hanley. Scott is a remarkable advocate for resilience, mindset, and functional health—an advocacy grounded in a powerful story of personal growth and change. Diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2017, Scott faced debilitating symptoms, including muscle rigidity, tremors, and severe sleep disturbances. Refusing to accept a progressive decline, he took an unconventional approach, combining high intensity physical and cognitive exercises to “train his brain” and reclaim control. Through CrossFit, Scott found a program that paired physical intensity with cognitive challenge, allowing him to regain 95% of his function—an outcome that continues to astonish his neurologists. His journey reflects a commitment to thrive, despite adversity, using resilience and innovation. Scott's experience as a former British Army officer further strengthens his message of mental toughness and discipline. Bringing this expertise into the corporate arena, he now works with business leaders to cultivate habits that support both physical and mental performance. Scott emphasizes mindset, functional fitness, and sustainable wellness as essential strategies to thrive in high-stress environments. He works directly with executives and teams, sharing insights from his own journey and teaching resilience-based techniques that empower them to lead with energy, focus, and a renewed commitment to health. Learning points: • How Scott reversed symptoms of his Parkinson's disease • What are his key pillars of mindset and resiliency • How Scott's story transcends so many areas of life Social Media: Website: https://www.thrivehappens.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thrive_happens

There are a lot of books on parenting, but very few about what happens when you suddenly find yourself doing it on your own. This was the experience of Australian author and podcaster Rachel Maksimovic. She became a solo mum when she was just 20 weeks' pregnant - and among the financial and career challenges it brought - there were a host of other, unexpected things. That prompted her to start her podcast called Mothering on My Own. It's now morphed into a book of the same name, in which 30 women who have found themselves parenting on their own share their stories. Rachel says society still judges single mums negatively - and fails to recognise the fullness of their lives.Go to this episode on rnz.co.nz for more details
Send us a textChris "The Grit" Droege invites us into the fascinating intersection between combat sports, entrepreneurship, and personal growth in this compelling conversation that transcends the typical fighter interview. From the wrestling mats of Youngstown to the MMA cages of Cleveland, Chris shares how wrestling shaped not just his fighting style, but his entire approach to life. "Nobody's gonna care about you as much as you are," he explains, detailing how the individual responsibility inherent in wrestling transferred directly to his business mindset.Rather than following a traditional career path despite holding two master's degrees, Chris launched his own painting company to create the flexibility needed for his fighting career. This strategic decision removed the financial pressure that plagues many fighters, allowing him to approach MMA "purely for the love and just try to be the best in the world." His perspective on creating parallel paths—one for stability and another for passion—offers a blueprint anyone can apply to their creative pursuits. The disciplined mindset Chris developed through wrestling permeates everything from his training methodology to his business approach. He draws a brilliant parallel between paying dues in combat sports and other fields: "You don't sign up for the high school football team to make a million dollars. You're doing it for the experience, for the love of the sport." This refreshing perspective counters our instant-gratification culture with timeless wisdom about mastery requiring investment before rewards.Whether you're a fight fan, entrepreneur, or simply someone striving to align your passions with sustainable success, Chris's insights will reshape how you approach your own journey. Tonight, we have an opportunity to bring a piece of Le Mans to you, sharing in the Legend of Le Mans with guests from different eras of over 100 years of racing. In 2007 Adrián Fernández made his debut at Le Mans taking home a second place in a V8 powered LMP2 prototype. This was the first podium for a Mexican driver at the Circuit de la Sarthe since the 1960s. Three years later in 2010, Adrián found himself back at Le Mans this time behind the wheel of Aston Martin's LMP1 finishing fifth in class (6th overall). Returning for the 80th running of Le Mans in 2012, Adrián and Aston Martin took home a third place finish in the GTE-Pro class covering 332 laps without failures or serious mechanical problems. With his help, the team achieved the fastest lap in their class at 3:54.928. And Adrián had the distinct honor of driving the Aston to the checkered flag. On September 12, 2012, Adrián announced his retirement from racing, thus concluding his relationship with Aston Martin Racing, but that wasn't the end of this involvement in the world of Motorsports. ===== (Oo---x---oO) ===== 00:00 Adrian Fernandez's Le Mans Journey 01:56 Early Racing Career and Challenges 03:20 Transition to Endurance Racing 07:54 First Le Mans Experience 10:50 Challenges and Triumphs at Le Mans 13:13 The Art of Endurance Racing 21:45 Aston Martin and Later Years 24:49 Transition to GT Racing 25:58 Final Race and Reflections 29:03 Advice for Aspiring Drivers 34:37 Changes in Motorsport: Safety Innovations 38:32 Historic Cars and Modern Racing 40:55 Life After Racing 45:35 Closing Thoughts and Farewell ==================== The Motoring Podcast Network : Years of racing, wrenching and Motorsports experience brings together a top notch collection of knowledge, stories and information. #everyonehasastory #gtmbreakfix - motoringpodcast.net More Information: https://www.motoringpodcast.net/ Become a VIP at: https://www.patreon.com/gtmotorsports Online Magazine: https://www.gtmotorsports.org/ To learn more about or to become a member of the ACO USA, look no further than www.lemans.org, Click on English in the upper right corner and then click on the ACO members tab for Club Offers.
