267: Willing, Not Ready: Nick Kleitsch on Taking Action Before You Feel Prepared

Small-Minded Podcast

This week I'm bringing you another one from the Molly Invites the Boys to the Podcast series, and this one is personal. Nick Kleitsch has been my coaching client for the past two years, and I have watched him take everything he has learned in that season and turn it into his own coaching practice. That's not a small thing to witness. Nick lives in Marion, works at Cedar Rapids Bank and Trust, hosts his own show called Life with Nick, and just launched his coaching business, Kleitsch's Coaching Collective, through a program he calls The Modern Warrior. In our conversation we get into his CliftonStrengths (Learner and Activator, and yes, you'll hear exactly why that combination makes him who he is), the moment that ended his baseball career and cracked his identity wide open, and the difference between a major failure and a minor one. We also talk about why nobody stays coached past college, the value of a 90-day sprint, and why a one-song dance party in your kitchen might be the most productive thing you do all week. This one is funny, it's honest, and it will make you rethink who's allowed to be your coach. What You'll Hear Why Nick doesn't define his ideal client by age or industry, but by willingness His CliftonStrengths of Learner and Activator, and how they show up (for better and worse) in his coaching What baseball taught him about daily motivation, mental toughness, and the difference between a major and a minor failure The moment that ended his baseball career and the identity crisis that followed Why he believes everyone should have a coach, and what neuroplasticity has to do with it The one-song dance party habit that unlocks his best ideas What he's learned building the Kleitsch's Coaching Collective and The Modern Warrior from scratch His go-to reading list for anyone who wants to understand how their brain and habits actually work Resources & Links Mentioned The Five Major Pieces of the Life Puzzle by Jim Rohn The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg Emotional Agility by Susan David Psycho-Cybernetics by Maxwell Maltz Becoming Supernatural by Dr. Joe Dispenza Connect with Nick Life with Nick Life with Nick Podcast Email: kleitschn60@gmail.com Listen and Subscribe Spotify Apple Podcasts If this one hit home, send it to the person in your life who needs to hear that willingness matters more than having it all figured out. And if you've got 30 seconds, leave us a review. It helps more than you know.

Investing in your team and leveraging their strengths really does pay off. In this episode of Roots of Success, Tracy Wallingford sits down with Steve and Anne Scarcella, ACE Ambassadors of the Year and co-owners of Brothers Lawn Services in Youngsville, Louisiana, to walk through three years of CliftonStrengths work, annual team off-sites, and what it actually takes to build a 65-person team where people thrive in their strengths instead of grinding through their weaknesses. This is one of the most honest and practical conversations we've had about what real team development looks like, not as a program, but as a practice. THE BIG IDEA:   A Strength Is Only an Advantage When You're Aware Enough to Use It Intentionally KEY MOMENTS:  [01:00] Brothers by the Numbers: 65 Employees, a Second Division in Baton Rouge, and a Team You Actually Want to See Every Day  [05:30] Opposites Attract — and Then They Build a Business Together  [07:30] Steve's Activator in Action: How a High-Speed Strength Gets Slowed Down (in a Good Way) by the Team  [11:00] What Led Brothers to Do Their First Team Off-Site — and What Off-Sites Expose  [15:00] Anne on Planning: Start in October, Find the House First, Build From There  [18:30] Budget, Dietary Restrictions, and the Art of Planning for 20 People (Without Herding Cats)  [22:30] "I've Been Seen": What the Team Took Away From That First Session  [26:30] A Strength Can Be a Weakness: Steve on Competition as a Blinder  [31:00] Navigating Tenured Employees Who Were Skeptical of the New Language  [34:30] Why They've Done the Strengths Session Twice With Nearly the Same People and Both Times Were Worth It  [38:00] Going Mobile: Why the Best One-on-Ones Don't Happen in an Office  Questions we answer.  What is CliftonStrengths and how do you actually use it with a landscape team?  What does it look like to take strengths work beyond a single session and make it a living practice?  How do you build a team off-site that's both fun and actually beneficial to the business?  When should you start planning a team off-site, and what should you think about first?  Why does staying together (not in a hotel) change the off-site experience?  How do you bring a vendor or peer visit into a team off-site without it feeling forced?  What is the "What I Need From You" exercise and how do you use it?  How do you handle long-tenured employees who are skeptical of new culture initiatives?  Why is knowing each other's strengths more important than having a specific set of them?  How do you keep strengths language alive between sessions and off-sites?

Activator - CliftonStrengths Snapshot

Lead Through Strengths

Play Episode Listen Later Mar 1, 2026 1:45

If you lead through the CliftonStrengths talent theme of Activator, (or you know someone who does), this is the episode for you!     Today's Strength Snapshot is Activator The Activator talent theme is fueled by motion, urgency, and decisive energy. People with this strength are naturally action-oriented, dynamic, influential, and initiating. At their core, Activators are wired to start. They don't wait for perfect conditions. They create momentum by taking the first step. Their instinct is simple and powerful: act now, adjust later. Activators often describe themselves as fast, catalytic, propulsive, and impatient. What drives them most is the opportunity to turn ideas into reality. They thrive when they can initiate, instigate, and get things moving. Waiting drains them. Starting energizes them.     When This Strength Is Thriving When Activator is in its strongest state, it brings a surge of energy to people and projects. This strength delivers urgency, instant momentum, and the courage to take risks. Activators naturally step into roles like catalyst, starter, originator, and influencer. They are often the spark that turns discussion into action. While others are still evaluating options, Activators are already testing the path forward. Their willingness to move first often unlocks progress for everyone else.     To close, here's a simple 5-minute experiment to try in the next 24 hours… Choose one idea you've been thinking about but haven't started. Take a single visible action toward it today. Send the email. Draft the outline. Make the call. Notice how quickly your energy rises once movement begins. Activators often discover that action itself is their greatest source of clarity.     Well, that's a wrap for today's episode. Step right up and spin the wheels (all three of them) on the best stand-up racing game to feature a vague Marvel reference - Ivan "Ironman" Stewart's Super Off Road by the Leland Corporation. What is the true name of this game? Why does Rob sound like he gargled with razor blades? How many copies of Super Mario Advance can one person legally own? Was the Activator the worst gaming peripheral ever? Questions this week include which arcade PCBs have shot up in price and made us go, "huh, really, that game?"; and a three-parter: what is an arcade or pinball game that we love but don't recommend to others to play, that we would like to own but not play, and would like to play but don't want to own? In this powerful and practical episode of the Wildly Wealthy Woman Podcast, Jackie shares how to prepare your nervous system, your mindset, and your identity before stepping on stage — whether you're giving a keynote, presenting at work, speaking at a wedding, or leading a room for the very first time. Jackie opens up about her early experiences with public speaking, starting at just eight years old, and how — even with decades of experience — nerves can still show up. The difference? Knowing how to work with your body instead of against it. You'll be introduced to the concept of creating a speaking alter ego, inspired by Todd Herman and his book The Alter Ego Effect, and learn how this blends beautifully with EFT tapping and parts-of-self work. This episode also includes a guided tapping session you can come back to again and again — especially right before you go on stage. ✨ Bookmark this one. Share it with a friend. Use it every time you're about to speak. In This Episode, You'll Learn: Why even confident, experienced speakers still feel nervous — and why that's not a problem How Jackie prepares for big speaking moments (including an upcoming keynote) What an alter ego is and how it helps performers access confidence on demand How EFT tapping helps regulate your nervous system before speaking The difference between performing and embodying your message Several powerful speaker archetypes (The Oracle, The Activator, The Empress & more) How to choose and activate your own speaking identity The importance of pre-stage rituals, visual anchors, and identity cues A grounding mindset shift: speaking from service instead of self-judgment A full tapping sequence to release fear, calm your body, and trust your voice Key Takeaways Nervous energy isn't a sign you're not ready — it's energy you can use Confidence doesn't come from perfection, it comes from embodiment Your message doesn't need to convince — it needs to transmit When you speak to one person, you move many EFT tapping + identity work is a game-changer for public speaking Guided Tapping Session Inside This Episode This episode includes a full tapping activation to help you: Calm anxiety and racing thoughts Release fear of messing up or being judged Drop into your body and slow your pace Trust your words and your preparation Speak from confidence, clarity, and service Perfect to listen to right before you go on stage. For Episode #191 of the PricePlow Podcast, we explore one of the most interesting and scientifically-rigorous appetite control stories we’ve encountered on the podcast yet. Mike sits down with Sarah Kennedy, founder and CEO of Calocurb, and Dr. Edward Walker, the lead scientist behind the development of Amarasate®, the natural hop extract at the heart of Calocurb’s formula. This isn’t your typical supplement origin story. Instead of a garage startup or bodybuilding brand, Calocurb emerged from a $20 million New Zealand government research grant specifically designed to develop a plant-based obesity treatment. Calocurb: From New Zealand Science to Commercial Reality Dr. Walker takes us through the fascinating scientific journey that began in 2009, when the New Zealand government funded research to find better alternatives to weight loss drugs. His team screened over 1,000 plant compounds, searching for those that could trigger the release of appetite-suppressing hormones. After years of research, including two years spent collecting intestinal biopsies from hospital patients, they identified a specific New Zealand hop variety that produces remarkable results. The clinical data shows Amarasate® increases GLP-1 and CCK levels sixfold over baseline, reduces hunger by 30%, decreases cravings by 40%, and cuts caloric intake by 18%. Sarah Kennedy licensed the technology in 2017 and launched Calocurb in 2018, years before the GLP-1 injectable phenomenon made appetite control a household topic. Today, Calocurb is positioned as a natural GLP-1 activator that works three ways: as a standalone appetite suppressant, as an adjunct to reduce injectable dosages and side effects, and critically, as post-cycle therapy to prevent the rebound weight gain that occurs when people stop taking GLP-1 drugs. With new clinical trial results expected from a 150-patient, six-month study, Calocurb represents a potent bridge between traditional supplements and pharmaceutical interventions in the weight management space. https://blog.priceplow.com/podcast/calocurb-191 Video: Calocurb: Natural GLP-1 Activation Through Bitter Hops Science https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c17t11gwlNc Detailed Show Notes: Sarah Kennedy and Dr. Edward Walker on Calocurb® and Amarasate® (0:00) – Introductions: A Different Kind of Supplement Story (1:00) – Dr. Walker’s Background: From Berry Compounds to Gut Science (3:00) – The New Zealand Government Grant: $20 Million to Solve Obesity (5:50) – How New Zealand Funds Primary Research (7:15) – The Government-to-Commercial Pathway (10:35) – The Pre-Ozempic Marketing Challenge (13:00) – The Timeline of GLP-1 Knowledge: 2009 vs. Today (15:45) – The “Bitter Brake” Theory: Location Matters (17:10) – Two Years in Hospital Waiting Rooms Collecting Biopsies (20:20) – Bitter Taste Receptors Throughout the Gut (22:30) – Why Plants and Humans Evolved This Way (24:15) – Why Bitter Detection in the Small Intestine? As a bestselling author and Founding Partner at DCM Insights, he's reshaped how companies think about sales. Now, with his new book The Activator Advantage, Matt turns his focus to the world of law, consulting, and other relationship-driven fields, where selling is often taboo—but still essential. In this episode, Mary sits down with Matt to unpack what top-performing partners do differently—and why it has nothing to do with cocktail parties or golf outings. Based on a global study of 3,500 partners, his research reveals a powerful new playbook for growing client relationships that's grounded in thoughtfulness, generosity, and strategic action. In this episode: The Five Partner Personas: From the Expert to the Confidant to the Activator, why most partners fall into outdated models—and what separates top performers. Why “Sales” Is a Dirty Word: Matt shares his story of getting cut off mid-presentation by a managing partner—and what it taught him about the legal mindset. What Clients Really Want: A direct line from clients themselves—what they wish partners would do more often, and why “waiting for the phone to ring” doesn't cut it anymore. We're going out into the deep water here. Grab your noodle if you must. Microdosing is a conversation that I've been following for a few years now. And you know how I follow: with a great deal curiosity and - in this case - a healthy dose of caution. So when my friend Nata (remember her from the She Who Rises breath work + cacao events?) said that she supports folks in microdosing experiences, I heard her and I scheduled a talk. I asked a lot of questions and poked around for greater understanding about how she works and where she is guiding folks. I was curious. If you're curious too, then listen in. See what you think.Nata will lead an informative workshop on the topic of microdosing on September 22nd. It's a virtual event - you can watch from home. And yes, it will be recorded for those who prefer the replay. You'll need to register to get the link. And follow Nata on IG @nata_jalenic Find her resources at And register for her upcoming event Microdosing a New Reality at www.studio108.net

Jess Fenton dismantles one of the biggest myths in the spiritual and coaching world: that consuming more content will lead to wealth. It won't.Jess explains why money itself is the most powerful activator of identity and success — and why real transformation happens the moment you invest, not after years of inspiration and free content. You'll hear:Why trying to consume your way to wealth keeps you stuck. How investing big money collapses time and instantly upgrades identity. Why £100 courses keep you comfortable but never change your life. The difference between “entertainers” who create endless content vs. activators who get real results. How money dissolves old identities and blocks at lightning speed. Why the ability to create an offer on demand is the ultimate power move for financial freedom.Jess shares real examples — from $30K mentorships to $350K activations — that show how wealth is created in the moment of financial commitment. If you're done consuming and ready to activate into your next level, this episode will shift everything you thought you knew about money, business, and identity.

What if your greatest strengths are secretly sabotaging your success?  This eye-opening exploration delves into the fascinating paradox at the heart of personal development - how our natural talents, when overused or misapplied, become the very blind spots holding us back.  We'll explore the concept through analyzing my CliftonStrengths 34 report - not just learning to see how your blind spots can hold you back but also how you can build simple systems to prevent that from happening.  Drawing from Martin Dubin's groundbreaking book "Blind Spotting" and my personal revelations from the Clifton Strengths Assessment, I share how my top strengths - Learner, Strategic, and Activator - create both extraordinary opportunities and unexpected challenges.  As someone who thrives on continuous knowledge acquisition, I've had to recognize when my love of learning becomes an impediment to action or creates friction in relationships. My strategic thinking allows for rapid pattern recognition but can appear as criticism or confuse others when I don't properly explain my thought process.  Most revealing is my Activator tendency, turning thoughts into immediate action propels progress but leads to hasty decisions I later regret. The practical systems I've developed to counterbalance these tendencies have transformed my effectiveness.  Unlike weaknesses we can typically identify, blind spots remain invisible without external reflection. That's where tools like coaching, assessment instruments, and even AI assistants become invaluable mirrors, revealing patterns we cannot see ourselves. The beauty of this approach lies in its elegance - you don't need to fundamentally change who you are, just create strategic guardrails that harness your natural talents while preventing their downsides.  Share, review, and consider discussing this episode with friends or family to help each other identify blind spots and build systems for more fulfilling, rewarding lives.  What strength might be holding you back without your knowledge?    Text Me Your Thoughts and IdeasSupport the showBrought to you by Angela Shurina Behavior-First Change Leadership & Culture Transformation ConsultantEXECUTIVE & OPTIMAL PERFORMANCE COACH

Welcome to the What's Next! Podcast with Tiffani Bova.    I'm super excited to welcome Matt Dixon to the show. He is a Founding Partner at DCM Insights, a global training and advisory firm, and a leading expert in business development and client experience. He's a frequent contributor to HBR and an author of bestselling books, including The Effortless Experience, The Jolt Effect, and his most famous, The Challenger Sale which was a #1 Amazon and Wall Street Journal bestseller. We crossed paths in the CEB Gartner days and I'm just thrilled to have him back here today to talk about a new book he co-authored, The Activator Advantage.    THIS EPISODE IS PERFECT FOR…leaders, consultants, and business developers looking to stand out in a more competitive market.   TODAY'S MAIN MESSAGE…strong client relationships and quality work used to be enough to maintain loyalty, but not anymore. As buying behaviors shift and competition increases, leaders need a new approach. Matt shares what sets today's top rainmakers apart: they're not just experts, they're activators—people who proactively offer insights, open doors, and create value long before the deal is signed.    KEY TAKEAWAYS… Great work alone no longer guarantees client loyalty. Activators are winning by being proactive connectors, not passive experts. Trusted advisors often box out colleagues and limit firm-wide growth. Internal collaboration makes client relationships more resilient.   WHAT I LOVE MOST…Matt's insight that rainmakers of the past relied on reputation but today's leaders build trust by sharing value before the sale even starts.   Running Time: 28:00    Subscribe on iTunes     Find Tiffani Online: LinkedIn Facebook X    Find Matt Online: LinkedIn   Matt's Book: The Activator Advantage: What Today's Rainmakers Do Differently

I had a great conversation with co-author of the new book, "The Activator Advantage"'s Karen Freeman. Here is some information about the book from DCM Insights:  There is a growing problem in the professional services industry that is often acknowledged but rarely discussed openly: clients—even long-standing ones for whom firms have delivered unquestioned value in the past—are much less loyal to firms and partners than they once were. But top performers have figured out a radical new approach that is redefining what it means to be a "rainmaker" in today's professional services market. Drawing on a comprehensive, quantitative study of nearly 3,000 professional services partners, The Activator Advantage identifies the five types of partners found across the professional services landscape and shows how only one of them—the Activator—drives consistent growth. Karen and I talked about what activators do: commit, connect, and create.  Take a look at the book information here: https://www.dcminsights.com/activator-advantage More about Women Sales Pros - we have a website, we are on LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram.  Subscribe to our 2x a month news, and share the podcast with others! In this episode of The Art of Charm, we sit down with Matt Dixon, co-author of The Challenger Sale and The Activator Advantage. In today's conversation, Matt Dixon reveals why the professionals dominating in today's market aren't necessarily the most credentialed, but the most proactive. We explore Matt's research across 3,000 professionals and break down the five business development personas, highlighting the unique traits and habits that make the “Activator” profile the highest performer of them all. Whether you're in sales, consulting, law, or simply trying to future-proof your career, adopting the activator mindset can radically shift how you're perceived and what doors open next. This episode will show you how to stop waiting for opportunity—and start creating it. What to Listen For [00:00:00] Why clients forget about you—and how activators stay top of mind [00:01:14] The 5 business development personas and why activators win [00:09:56] Data shows activators are the top performers—and least likely to fail [00:17:52] How activators manage their network like a pipeline—not a popularity contest [00:24:13] The myth of being annoying: why clients want more outreach, not less [00:33:08] “No” isn't the end: how activators turn rejection into opportunity [00:39:24] The 4-part insight framework for opening doors with ideas [00:45:57] Why you must prune stale relationships to stay high-impact [00:54:49] The activator approach to events: plan, target, and follow through [01:01:53] Don't just post on LinkedIn—why DMs and engagement matter more Episode Takeaways: Activators don't rely on being top of mind—they engineer it by adding value consistently. Smart professionals build leverage by helping others long before there's anything to gain. Great client relationships aren't the result of great work—they're often the cause of it. Build trust early, not just after the sale. No doesn't mean never. Activators stay present, learn why they lost, and often get the callback when things go sideways. Learn to prune.
