As we near the end of the school year, I'd like to give a shoutout to Mr George Gaskin's 7th grade history class at Harvard-Westlake School who are fans of this program. Have you ever wondered what keeps your cells functioning properly? The answer might be a molecule with a funny name but serious implications for longevity. Spermidine, found in every living cell on Earth, is essential for triggering autophagy—your body's internal cleaning system that recycles damaged cellular components.Biochemist Dr. Melissa Cano takes us deep into the fascinating world of cellular metabolism, explaining how this small but mighty molecule could be key to healthier aging. Our spermidine levels naturally decline as we age, precisely when we need its protective effects most. This decline happens through three pathways: diminished internal production, changes in gut microbiome, and potentially decreased absorption from food—creating a perfect storm for cellular aging. What makes this conversation particularly compelling is the growing body of evidence supporting spermidine's role in longevity. Epidemiological studies show people with higher dietary spermidine intake live 5-10 years longer on average. In lab studies, supplementation extends lifespan in multiple organisms by 5-20%. A groundbreaking 2024 study in Nature Cell Biology even revealed that spermidine mediates many of fasting's benefits—suggesting this molecule could be a natural caloric restriction mimetic without the hunger.Whether you're already familiar with longevity compounds like rapamycin and metformin or just beginning your healthy aging journey, this episode offers practical insights for everyone. Ready to support your body's natural cleaning and rejuvenation processes? Learn how this remarkable molecule works at the cellular level and discover if spermidine supplementation might be the missing piece in your longevity strategy. This episode is sponsored by SpermidineLife whose products are mentioned in the program. I had a great conversation with co-author of the new book, "The Activator Advantage"'s Karen Freeman. Here is some information about the book from DCM Insights: There is a growing problem in the professional services industry that is often acknowledged but rarely discussed openly: clients—even long-standing ones for whom firms have delivered unquestioned value in the past—are much less loyal to firms and partners than they once were. But top performers have figured out a radical new approach that is redefining what it means to be a "rainmaker" in today's professional services market. Drawing on a comprehensive, quantitative study of nearly 3,000 professional services partners, The Activator Advantage identifies the five types of partners found across the professional services landscape and shows how only one of them—the Activator—drives consistent growth. Karen and I talked about what activators do: commit, connect, and create. In this episode of The Rainmaking Podcast, host Scott Love speaks with Matt Dixon—bestselling author of The Challenger Sale and The Jolt Effect—about his latest research and book, The Activator Advantage: What Today's Rainmakers Do Differently. Based on data from the Rainmaker Genome Project, Matt introduces five rainmaker profiles, highlighting the “Activator” as the most effective. Activators stand out by committing consistently to business development, building broad and deep networks, and proactively delivering value to clients before they even ask for it. Rather than relying on personality, Activators succeed through behavior—habits, systems, and deliberate outreach. Matt explains that Activators aren't just connectors; they transform insights and introductions into meaningful client engagements. They develop daily routines, use platforms like LinkedIn strategically, and focus on helping others as a way of building trust and generating future opportunities. This episode also breaks down three action steps for aspiring rainmakers: plan business development time weekly, expand and engage your network, and proactively share insights that clients didn't know they needed. With data-driven insights and real-world examples, this conversation offers a powerful blueprint for professionals who want to become indispensable advisors. In this episode, Kris speaks with Matthew Dixon, founding partner of DCM Insights and bestselling author, about his latest research on business development in professional services. Drawing on a global study of 3,000 partners, Dixon outlines five distinct sales profiles and highlights the “Activator” as the only approach consistently linked to higher revenue performance. Key insights: - Traditional models of client loyalty are eroding, with fewer clients returning automatically to the same firm. - Top performers distinguish themselves by proactively delivering value, leveraging internal and external networks, and consistently committing time to business development. - Effective firms drive adoption of these behaviors not through mandates, but by enabling teams with tools, mentorship, and a culture of collaboration. - Technology, including AI and network management tools, reduces the time required to execute these strategies, but success ultimately relies on human relationships and judgment. Dixon's upcoming book, The Activator Advantage, provides a practical guide for partners and leaders seeking to future-proof client engagement strategies in a more competitive and fast-changing market. In this episode of Brainfluence, host Roger Dooley welcomes back Matt Dixon, founding partner of DCM Insights and co-author of the bestselling "The Challenger Sale." Dixon shares insights from his latest book, The Activator Advantage: What Today's Rainmakers Do Differently, which is rooted in groundbreaking research on how top professionals win and grow client relationships in the increasingly competitive world of professional services. Dixon unpacks the five distinct profiles that partners in fields like law, accounting, and consulting tend to fall into, with a particular focus on the "Activator"—a proactive, well-networked rainmaker who brings new ideas to clients and promotes deep collaboration within firms. Dixon explains that while only about 15–20% of partners naturally exhibit strong activator traits, everyone can learn to adopt key behaviors that set activators apart: maintaining a regular business development cadence, building broad and deep networks, and proactively creating value for clients. He reveals that the biggest client complaint isn't over-contact; instead, it's wishing they heard more from their trusted advisors with fresh insights and opportunities. The conversation offers practical takeaways for both leaders and individuals in professional services who want to move beyond waiting for the phone to ring and instead, become indispensable partners in their clients' success. In this episode of The Art of Charm, we sit down with Matt Dixon, co-author of The Challenger Sale and The Activator Advantage. In today's conversation, Matt Dixon reveals why the professionals dominating in today's market aren't necessarily the most credentialed, but the most proactive. We explore Matt's research across 3,000 professionals and break down the five business development personas, highlighting the unique traits and habits that make the “Activator” profile the highest performer of them all. Whether you're in sales, consulting, law, or simply trying to future-proof your career, adopting the activator mindset can radically shift how you're perceived and what doors open next. This episode will show you how to stop waiting for opportunity—and start creating it. What to Listen For [00:00:00] Why clients forget about you—and how activators stay top of mind [00:01:14] The 5 business development personas and why activators win [00:09:56] Data shows activators are the top performers—and least likely to fail [00:17:52] How activators manage their network like a pipeline—not a popularity contest [00:24:13] The myth of being annoying: why clients want more outreach, not less [00:33:08] “No” isn't the end: how activators turn rejection into opportunity [00:39:24] The 4-part insight framework for opening doors with ideas [00:45:57] Why you must prune stale relationships to stay high-impact [00:54:49] The activator approach to events: plan, target, and follow through [01:01:53] Don't just post on LinkedIn—why DMs and engagement matter more Episode Takeaways: Activators don't rely on being top of mind—they engineer it by adding value consistently. Smart professionals build leverage by helping others long before there's anything to gain. Great client relationships aren't the result of great work—they're often the cause of it. Build trust early, not just after the sale. No doesn't mean never. Activators stay present, learn why they lost, and often get the callback when things go sideways. Learn to prune. Well, I have come full circle! In 2013, I started a leadership group for my corporate organization. My CEO requested that we center the first leadership group on the book, Start with Why, by Simon Sinek. And almost 12 years later, I am still obsessed with the book. The basic premise of Start with Why is that if a person or a company starts from the point of why they do what they do and they communicate that clearly, the how and what (aka the operations or tactical pieces) will come. It all starts with understanding and knowing our why.Well, guess what? I was pumped to get introduced to Monique Helstrom, the professional that was behind the author and speaker, Simon Sinek, during the Start with Why heyday. It was fun to learn what was happening behind the scenes, and what has prompted Monique to branch off on her own.During my conversation with Monique, we chatted about:What it was like to move from being Chief of Simon Sinek to running her own business. Her mindset shift from feeling like being an executive assistant was simply #2 to moving to being #1 personally and professionally. Why she sees life as a potluck. She dives deeper into her mission with the work she does today with Executive Assistant recruiting and executive coaching clients. What are the signs we need an executive assistant and how do we look for our own?And more. Before we get started, here is more about Monique:Monique has dedicated her life to helping humans understand their own unique role in making great ideas - and great partnerships - come to life. After nearly a decade as the Executive Assistant, Producer, and “Chief of Simon Sinek,” New York Times Best-Selling author and TED celebrity, along with her adventures as an event planner and a two-time small-businessowner, Monique has had unparalleled experiences and gained unique perspectives from thought leaders, executives, middle managers, celebrities, educators, military, social activists, and the general workforce that this world depends on. These encounters have equipped her with the tools necessary to decipher and disentangle common issues plaguing humans and businesses around the globe. And now, as a Speaker, Activator, and Unlocker of Human Potential, she consults, coaches, and speaks internationally to teach people the most important skills that no one ever taught them before. She has helped individuals and teams understand and utilize their innate talents, master their communication, conquer their organizational roadblocks, and build powerful relationships that will actually progress their career. As an expert on communication and feedback, human (not “soft”) skills, personality types, performance enhancers, skill building techniques, executive presence, and ways to motivate, she offers a practical and honest approach to subjects like change, teamwork, collaboration, conflict and communication! She has cultivated an ability to identify patterns, diagnose the gaps, and establish a workable solution. She is experienced in taking take large complex problems and breaking them down into bite-sized, achievable nuggets.

Bible Reading: Matthew 5:13-16; Luke 8:16; John 5:24"Help! It's not working! Troooooy!" Troy stepped into the kitchen to see his little sister's hands covered in purple glue. "Crafting again, Emmy? What are you trying to do?" Emma blew a curl off her forehead in frustration. "I'm trying to make slime! I have glue, water, and baking soda. Look at this, it's just a sticky mess! Not slimy at all." "You forgot the activator." Troy pointed to step four of the recipe. "You need contact lens solution--I'll get you some of mine." "What does an activator do?" Emma asked when Troy returned with the missing ingredient. "An activator reacts with the rest of your ingredients and transforms them into something new--in this case, slime! Slime happens when you mix the liquid substance in your glue with the boric acid in an activator. This fun transformation is called cross-linking." Troy added the activator to his sister's bowl and watched her stir it in. "It's so slimy!" Emma held her slime in front of Troy's face with a grin. "Thanks for helping me!" "No problem, sis. Hey, did you know that you helped me?" "I did?" Emma poked her slime. "How?""Before you called for help, I was thinking about some friends of mine. They don't know Jesus and have started doing some stuff that's not good for them. Instead of talking to them about it, I just stayed away from them. But God used your slime project to remind me that I should do something different.""What's that?" Emma asked. "Since I have God's Spirit in me, I can be an activator to those around me who are in darkness. I have His light, and I need to shine it to others. I don't have to participate in the wrong things my friends are doing, but I can choose to show them a better way. I can tell my friends about a different kind of cross-linking: Jesus died on the cross and rose again so we could cross over from death to life and be transformed!" Emma raised her slime in the air. "Activators make everything better!" –Savannah ColemanHow About You?Are you allowing God to use you as an activator to those He has placed in your life? Jesus said that those who trust in Him are the salt of the earth and the light of the world. If we hide the light of Jesus within us, how will those who are lost come to know Him? Trust God for courage to be an activator for Him and shine His light to those around you.Today's Key Verse:In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. (NIV) (Matthew 5:16)Today's Key Thought:Be an activator in the world
