Paul is joined by Chris Pedersen, Director of Research and Daryl Bahls, Director of Analytics for The Merriman Financial Education Foundation, to answer questions from viewers of the AAII Webinar, "Which Is The Best 1-,2-, 3- and 4 Fund Strategy?” that Paul presented Sept. 23, 2020. While the presentation explored returns of 11 portfolios, from 1 to 4 funds, the focus was on the Merriman 4-Fund Combo. See all URL links below. It is not necessary to watch or listen to the original presentation to appreciate this Q&A session, but it will likely be helpful. This is presented as both a podcast and a YouTube video. If you enjoy this, please like and share. Your engagement helps support our work…thank you! Download a free PDF of all slides in the original presentation: https://paulmerriman.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/QA-Podcast-1-Charts.pdf As the presentation included results for all 11 of what we call “No-Nonsense Portfolios,” several viewers wanted to know how the 10-fund Merriman Ultimate Buy and Hold Portfolio performed for the 1990-2019 period. In this Q&A we addressed that topic. The following questions are from the live event’s audience: Will you be developing small portfolios that include international equity funds? Will you discuss your use of market timing, including how DFA uses market timing in their portfolio management? With only 10 years left until retirement, how appropriate will the 2 Funds for Life portfolio be? • What is a safe withdrawal rate in retirement? What do you recommend for a 50- to 60-year-old who wants to retire now compared to one who is 60 to 70? (The viewer adds he has a $3 million portfolio.) How can you recommend bond funds when they pay such little income? Do you like the Life Cycle Funds within the U.S. Government Thrift Savings Plan? Would you recommend the Small Cap Fund in the TSP for your 2 Funds for Life Portfolio? Do you use equal weighted index funds in any of your 4-Fund Combo? Do you always recommend rebalancing your 4-Fund Combo? Where can I get a copy of your upcoming book, We’re Talking Millions! 12 ways to Supercharge Your Retirement? What do you think is the best formula for the percentage you have in stocks and bonds? [See our Fine Tuning Tables and Distribution Tables] What is the biggest mistakes young investors make? I have fully funded my 401k and have more money to invest… should I put in taxable account or my wife’s 401(k)? What books do you recommend? This is the second of three Q&A sessions with Paul Merriman, Chris Pedersen, Director of Research, and Daryl Bahls, Director of Analytics with The Merriman Financial Education Foundation. It is a follow-up to Paul's webinar, “Which Is The Best 1-,2-, 3- and 4 Fund Strategy?” sponsored by the American Association of Individual Investors (AAII) on Sept. 23, 2020. At the end of that presentation, Paul was joined by Chris and Daryl to address questions for 30 minutes. As there were many more questions than time permitted answering, this podcast — also available as a video — continues to address those audience questions. In this Q&A session, the three “conflict-free teachers” dive into these big topics: • Equity asset class selection • Comparing returns • Dollar-cost averaging • Sequence returns and risks in accumulation and distribution stages Questions addressed include: - Why don’t you include small and large growth in your recommendations? - Gold and commodities: why not? - What’s the value of adding international funds? - Does it matter whether you use Vanguard or Fidelity Funds? - Do you use Portfolio Visualizer to understand the factor weighing of your portfolio? - How do your “Best in Class” ETFs, that duplicate DFA’s, compete with Vanguard? - Which strategies are better when you consider tax implications of rebalancing? Paul answers this last question briefly, citing from and recommending DIYers read “Your Complete Guide to a Successful and Secure Retirement” by Larry Swedroe and Kevin Grogan. This Q&A session with Paul Merriman, Chris Pedersen and Daryl Bahls, is a follow-up to Paul's webinar, “Which Is The Best 1-,2-, 3- and 4 Fund Strategy?” sponsored by the American Association of Individual Investors (AAII) on Sept. 23, 2020. Following the presentation, Paul was joined by Chris and Daryl to address questions for 30 minutes. As there were many more questions than time permitted answering, this podcast and video is the first of several that will address those audience questions. Paul begins this Q&A session with the 5 lessons he hoped viewers would learn during the AAII webinar, followed by questions regarding the study that compares the "11 No-Nonsense Portfolios". That discussion includes: why the selection of the 11 portfolios? why didn’t the portfolios include any bonds? why the use of Dimensional Indexes? how were the indexes constructed? why the 30-year period? why the best and worst of the portfolios? how does the Tell-Tale chart work? PLUS, Daryl introduces a new table that compares the 4-Fund Portfolio to the S&P 500 from 1928 to 2019. If 'THESE UNPRECEDENTED TIMES' have done one good thing, it's that it has returned Which Is The Best? podcast to something approaching a weekly schedule again. This week, we (Comedians Lee Kyle & Sammy Dobson) compare sex scandals (Sunday People staple) to sex candles (Candles you can buy to drip wax onto a lover that have a slightly lower burning point or something). And we reveal Sammy's actual brief time as part of a sex scandal when she was referred to in the papers as a 'mystery blonde'.. Which is odd because, if anything, she's worryingly open.
Calvin, Foxtrot, The Far Side, WHICH IS THE BEST????? Tell us in the comments.
The Greatest Film You've Never Seen is a podcast where comedians Si Beckwith and Ken McGuinness chat to guests about the best, most interesting and most revered films that have passed them by.Using IMDBs 'Top 250' as a jumping off point, they ask the fascinating folk they've invited along which of these unmissable films they've missed. This episode they're joined by comedian Lee Kyle for the most chaotic but brilliantly fun episode yet. Lee's version of The Matrix needs to be heard to be believed. Then heard again.Lee is also an excellent podcaster and co-host of Which Is The Best? with Sammy Dobson. Both of whom are also part of The Stand Panto (along with former guest of this very podcast Hal Branson) running from 7th to 30th December at The Stand Newcastle. You can find more info and tickets here. The Greatest Film You've Never Seen is a Hope For Proles production. Music comes from Static Blue. Follow Hope For Proles in all the usual places. Nice ears you've got there, be a shame if something happened to them... Sorry for being threatening but here is the deal, if you don't listen to episode 148 I'm going to take your ears and sell them for scrap, don't say you weren't warned. Bit kooky that intro wan't it? Up yours, I'm trying something new. What's this then? It's the overly honest podcast where Sammy Dobson (aging character actress) and Lee Kyle (above the law) decide Which Is The Best between things of the same or similar names. This week: Ease - Like Sunday morning if you don't go to church and get told off or Es - Are good, Es are good, naughty naughty very naughty. We've got 2 live shows coming up, only as a panel show with guests and that, at Chilli Fest at the Chillingham in Newcastle on 10th November then at the Stand in Newcastle on 5th January.
Normally, this podcast is for deciding Which Is The Best between things of the same or similar names. But, Lee Kyle and Sammy Dobson have just been to Berlin (Not together, they aren't that close) and just talk about that instead. Featuring loads of cocks and Hitler. Oh, and Lee has a surprisingly strong opinion about Cheryl Cole.
2 days late becauseone of us has a life beyond this podcast, Which Is The Best brings out episode 117 doing what we always do, deciding between things of the same OR SIMILAR names. Sammy has been to Lanzarote, Lee hasn't. What disparate lives they lead. This week: Fencing: Making a fence or Fencing: Sword fighting but with long needles Also, apparently you have to engage with the listener on social media, so,we ask: Have you had sex this week dear listener? Or at least had your tops andfingers? Tell us below!
You used to hear the word Razzmatazz way more in the 1980s than you hear it now but they never mention that on Buzzfeed to they? I'm beginning to think they weren't even there. Hello and welcome to episode 115 of the drawn out chore that is Which Is The Best podcast, where Sammy Dobson (Deranged gluesniffer) and Lee Kyle (Tempestuous minor royal) decide between things of the same or similar name. THIS TIME: Taxidermy: Making a bird last forever with a dead look in its dead eyes. or Taxi journey: Making a conversation about how busy a racist has been last forever, with a dead look in its dead eyes.
Welcome to episode 108 of your 19th favourite podcast where star of adverts Sammy Dobson and desperate self publicist Lee Kyle decide WHICH IS THE BEST between things of the same or similar names. This weekthey decide between: Gangnam Style: The predecessor to the worldwide smash hit Gentleman and Gangland Style: An execution And other things.
Each week, comedians Lee Kyle and Sammy Dobson meet and decide Which Is The Best bewteen things of the same or similar names. Every now and again, there is an episode where Sammy (Off TV's Doctors) goes all mad and manic. It is Lee's opinion that the thing she says about a dream chicken wizard in this episode is the oddest thing she's ever said. ALSO: WITB? Barbie (Put another shrimp on the) or Barbie (Unrealistically bodied plastic socialite)
It's episode 101 of the podcast that people are calling 'Like a working class Answer Me This only with a different format and dissimilar presenters and loads of other differences and noticably more swearing. Each week, Lee Kyle (Married) and Sammy Dobson (Not married) meet and decide Which Is The Best bewteen things with the same or similar names. This week: Bilderberg: Shadowy cabal that runs the world or doesn't. OR Build-a-bear: Workshop. There's your blurb for this week mate, remember to edit this line out before you post it.
This is episode 92 of Which Is The Best podcast. The rest of this description will be written without vowells, which is a ridiculous thing to do, especially considering that next Sunday is our live show (At The Stand in Newcastle at 3pm) and we need to sell tickets. Episode 91 of Which is the Best podcast might be the most niche episode we've done. What it is is this: Sammy Dobson is one of the two hosts of it (Lee Kyle is the other) and on Thursday she was in the BBC soap opera Doctors playing a woman who is inexplicably angry at a deaf woman for using sign language. So, to celebrate, Lee and Sammy have recorded a commentary that can be listened to at the same time as the episode should you choose to watch it along on iPlayer. It's probably an episode that you can still enjoy without accompanying viewing. Is it? Maybe, not sure. As a sop to our remit, we do start with one of our patented decisions, as we decide Which Is The Best between: Hugh - Men called Hugh or Hue - Colour That bit is pretty rushed though. Come see us live if you want. We at The Stand in Newcastle at 4pm on 15th October.
I tell you what Donald Trump hates, he HATES Which is the Best podcast. He bloody hates it. He'd be furious if you listened to it. There, that should do it. This week (Episode 89) Lee Kyle and Sammy Dobson decide WHICH IS THE BEST between the following similarly named things: Courtly love: A highly conventionalized medieval tradition of love between a knight and a married noblewoman. and Courtney Love: Not definitely a murderer. Come see us live at The Stand in Newcastle on 15th October at 4pm if you like.
"My wife is real, I've bought her a backwards duck." Hello there, ever wondered WHICH IS THE BEST? between Lent (Depressing Easter Advent) or Lent (Giving someone something for a limited period of time)? No? Well we've worked it out for you anyway. Lee Kyle and Sammy Dobson have the sort of podcast where they do that. They decide between things with the same name. They have flyers now. Honest to God, flyers! If you are in Glasgow (Which isn't impossible) comeand see our live show at McPhabbs on Sunday 12th March at 6.30pm. Do you like Black Rebel Motorcycle Club? Lee doesn't really but he borrowed one of their CDs off someone years ago and can't remember who. If you want it, send us your address and he'll post it off. Or, if you're too late, he'll send you a different CD. Until he can't be bothered anymore. Why? Not sure really.
Episode 58 was the result of a decision based on a whim. Each week comedians Lee Kyle (Has a headache) and Sammy Dobson (Headache status currently not known) decide WHICH IS THE BEST between things with the same name. This week Habit (Nun cloth) or habit (A habit, come on, you know what a habit is for crying out loud, I've got a headache.) As a sort of last minute decision, we invited any listeners who happened to be in Newcastle and were free at short notice to come into the green room at The Stand comedy club to record this episode just before we went onstage. It's a small room but we crammed 5 in. 2 of those were Sammy's parents... FIND OUT: Why Sammy wasn't invited to their wedding, whether Lee and Sammy could be siblings and Lee's shameful 9/11 memory.
Here we go again! It's episode 57 of the podcast where Lee Kyle (Hasn't worked with Peter Andre) and Sammy Dobson (Has) meet and decide WHICH IS THE BEST out of things with similar names. This week, Sammy is horrible to Lee for his weird walk and, since Lee is typing this, he (I) wants you to know he is not over it. THIS WEEK: LEE AND HERRING (90s comedy double act, sneakily swore on Sunday afternoon telly) or LEE AND PERRINS (Worcestershire Sauce) This one is giddy in parts.
Tattoos are cool, everyone knows that BUT are they better than tattoos (As in the Edinburgh tattoo where people march up and down to the sound of bagpipes)? If they are, are they better than TaTu, the Russian pop faux lesbians? Not everyone is qualified to decide such important issues. Luckily, Sammy Dobson (The drummer in Dogdeath in Byker Grove) and Lee Kyle (Currently heroically getting this podcast out on time even though he's on holiday) are. After all, this is the 49th episode of Which Is The Best, the podcast where they decide between things of the same or similar names. If they can't do it now, when WILL they be able to? Never, that's when. Listen to it, then join the Facebook group 'Which is the best podcast - The Horde!' where there is all sorts of lovely stuff going on.
Episode 48 of the podcast that, somewhat pointlessly, decides Which Is The Best between things of the same or similar names hits the airwaves (iTunes and that) and finally gets onto the debate the entire world has been waiting for. Yes, this week, Lee Kyle and Sammy Dobson (Between them, they have been in a Palme D'or winning film for about 18 seconds) choose between: Geoffrey Palmer: A sort of grumpy Richard Briers and Jeffrey Dahmer: A sort of grumpy Dennis Nilsen Have a download for some lovely 'As Time Goes By'/Head in fridge juxtaposition.
Episode 17 is recorded at a car park in Beamish museum. If you are a regular, you'll know why. The picture that accompanies this episode is one that Sammy found from an earlier visit to this museum. Yes, THAT is what he looks like! This week, Lee Kyle and Sammy Dobson decide Which Is The Best between: Ants and Aunts. Is an insect that can lift up a quite large leaf better than that lass that lives with your uncle? and Spirits or spirits. Is booze better than ghosts? Featuring: SORE ARMS! THE TIME LEE DRUNK SOMETHING HE SHOULDN'T HAVE! THE TIME LEE DRUNK SOMETHING ELSE HE REALLY SHOULDN'T HAVE! ANT HOLOCAUST
