If you have been putting off getting an estate plan and think it's something you still have to do, here's the thing: it's already been done. The state wrote it for you. And it has no idea who you are, what you built, or who you love. It does not know about the estranged sibling, the child with special needs, or the spouse who would be left with far less than you think. It just follows the formula. In this episode, Patti Brennan walks through the consequences of not taking action around building an estate plan, and what to do instead.
What do Barack Obama, Matt Damon, marijuana, the Mandela Effect, and a rogue ostrich have in common?Honestly… this podcast. In this episode of Stupid People with Pets, host Mr. Burnz Sativa sits down with veteran journalist, editor, cartoonist, and cannabis industry pioneer Peter Moore for a conversation that starts in reality and slowly drifts into absolute madness. From media and journalism to cannabis culture, celebrity stories, strange memories, the Mandela Effect, and some of the weirdest topics you'll hear all week, nothing is off limits. Somewhere along the way, the names Barack Obama and Matt Damon enter the conversation, reality gets questioned, and an ostrich somehow steals the spotlight. This isn't your typical interview. It's part comedy, part deep conversation, part “how the hell did we get here?”

A Texas judge grants Brendan Sorsby his injunction, keeping him eligible to play college football despite admitting to gambling violations, and Ken argues Browns fans need to pay close attention to how he handles the hostile environments ahead. The guys debate whether this ruling is actually a secret win for the NCAA as it builds a case for Congress to step in and restore some order to the wild west of college sports. Ken draws a clear line between Sorsby betting on games versus the far more serious accusations facing former Guardians pitchers Emmanuel Clase and Luis Ortiz, pushing fans to honestly rank where this falls on the scale of bad behavior.

Today's guest entered the year pretty bearish on the prospects for the US economy, the global economy, the financial markets and the housing market. Now that we're 5 months into the year -- and embroiled in a new war against Iran -- how has his outlook changed, if at all?For insight, we're fortunate to welcome back to the program Edward Dowd, founder of macroeconomic consulting & research firm Phinance Technologies.Ed expects a near-term 20-30% market correction, to then get rescued by the central planners.But...he then predicts that recovery will fail, dropping stocks into a true, likely multi-year, bear market.WORRIED ABOUT THE MARKET? Jason Shepperd built a megachurch that has no small groups. Instead, more than 4,000 people across Houston meet weekly in dozens of house churches, each one led by an unpaid lay pastor with a day job: firefighters, business owners, real estate guys doing the actual pastoral work of the church. He calls it "a church of house churches" and it might be the most unusual functioning church structure in America. In this conversation, Jason sits down with Jeremy McCommons and Alex Rossie to break down how the model actually works, why he believes the traditional church model is broken, and what he learned reading the New Testament that he couldn't unsee. We get into:- Why a house church is fundamentally different from a small group- How lay pastors (firefighters, business owners, real estate guys) do the actual pastoring- Why Church Project runs on one-quarter the staff of a typical megachurch its size- Why Jason refuses to call this a "model he invented" and what he means by eDNA- How Church Project gives away nearly half its operating budget every year- Why most church buildings are bad stewardship (and how Church Project's building pays for itself)- The "three D's" that hold the whole structure together- What Jason would say to a 35-year-old church planter who's tired of the traditional modelIf you're a pastor, a small group leader, a church planter, or someone who's quietly wondering whether there's a better way to do church, this one is for you.⏱️ Timestamps:0:00 The stewardship of space and spiritual gifts1:15 Meet Jason Shepperd and Church Project3:30 What is the church, actually?8:45 Why Jason started Church Project12:10 What eDNA means and why it matters16:20 House church vs. small group: the real difference22:00 The three D's: distributed, decentralized, diverse28:40 Sunday gatherings without centralization33:15 What Jason says to pastors considering this model39:00 How Church Project handles finances44:30 Why most church buildings are bad stewardship49:00 Pirates and cruise ships: how to build without tearing down

Today's word of the day is ‘flamethrower' as in Jacob Misiorowski as in Brewers as in torch as in speed as in velocity. He is doing things we've never seen in the game before. He holds the top 9 spots for fastest pitches by a starter since at least 2008. Just in awe of what he is doing. (9:00) Shohei Ohtani is just amazing. I just keep saying it. Another pitching outing where he goes seven innings and doesn't allow a run. (15:50) The Yankees have a pitching problem. Max Fried got pulled from his start with an elbow issue. Say it ain't so. He has been the most consistent pitcher for the Yankees over the last two seasons. This team cannot afford to lose someone like him. (22:30) The Marlins top prospect is hurt. Rob Snelling started just one game for the Marlins and now has a UCL problem. Uh oh. (27:31) The Cavaliers stole it from the Pistons. Just a meltdown by Detroit. Cleveland now leads the series 3-2 and gets Game 6 at home. (35:11) Review: The Drama. (37:22) NPPOD. (48:00) NFL schedule release. How fun! Learn more about your ad choices. On Wednesday's Mark Levin Show, in the spirit of George Wallace, Democrats in Virginia disenfranchised millions of voters through a misleading referendum on representation, which passed in a Democrat-majority state where most Democrats voted against Republicans having any seats. But the Tazewell Circuit Court just ruled the referendum unconstitutional on two grounds: the ballot language was utterly misleading and the legislature's vote to place it on the ballot violated state law. The judge issued an injunction blocking certification and denied a stay, with a final order forthcoming and immediate appeal expected to the Virginia Supreme Court. Ken Cuccinelli calls in and explains the Circuit Court's decision. There are four significant state constitutional violations, any one of which could invalidate the referendum or the resulting map, as challengers only need to prove one flaw while defenders must win on all four. Also, the Southern Poverty Law Center has targeted and maligned traditional conservatives for decades. After the civil rights era, it struggled to find enough discrimination under federal and state law to attract donors, so it created such discrimination on a grand scale. According to an indictment with receipts, the organization funneled more than $3 million in donor funds to extremist groups. It set up accounts with fake names to launder the money and conceal its involvement. Later, Dana Perino calls in to discuss her new novel - Purple State. She also weighed in on the Southern Poverty Law Center which she called the greatest extortion scam in a long time by creating and inflating hate in order to claim credit for fighting it. Perino also emphasized that Israel's post-October 7 actions and recent intelligence gains have put the Iranian regime on the ropes, and Trump would ultimately finish the job. What does it take to build a search process that has a VP of HR saying they've never seen anything like it? Darwin Shurig built a $2.5 million medtech recruiting firm with $1.2 million in personal production. Then in one quarter, eight of his nine top clients stopped using external recruiters. Revenue collapsed. His team disappeared. His 17-year marriage ended in the same period. What he built on the other side changed how he runs every search. His process replaces the standard job description with a short video interview between the recruiter and the hiring manager. Qualified candidates see the role in the manager's own words before a single formal interview is scheduled. On the hiring side, the manager receives the candidate's personal why on video, written samples, and personality profiling. Both sides walk into the first conversation already informed. A VP of HR, after seeing it, told Darwin his firm had just paid $97,000 for an executive search and received resumes and scheduling. "We didn't get anything like this." In this episode, Darwin breaks down the collapse, the lessons, and the process he built from scratch — including two specific things every recruiter can use this week with no software required. In this episode, you'll discover: Why eight of nine clients can vanish in one quarter and what it exposes about your business model The three root causes of underperformance most agency owners never diagnose Why personal why has to match company why when hiring, or it breaks when things get hard How a hiking idea became a platform that's changing how retained search is delivered The hiring manager video that replaces the job description and why candidates respond differently "How Darwin's process consistently delivers results that clients say they've never experienced before Two things you can apply this week with whatever tools you already have Episode highlights: 0:00 Intro 1:41 How Darwin built a $2.5M firm, then lost it 5:43 Eight of nine clients stop overnight 11:16 What the collapse taught him 22:05 The hedgehog lesson: too many projects, not enough oxygen 28:15 Why misaligned values break down when things get hard 36:39 Managing your own business vs. someone else's money 40:48 The expectation failure: "Nobody ever told me." 44:22 The hike that became a platform idea 47:48 Inside Top Talent Accelerant: the hiring manager video 53:59 How the platform is being commercialized 1:05:54 The $97K fee moment 1:11:20 Two things you can use this week Guest bio: Darwin Shurig is the founder of Top Talent Accelerant, a medical device and medtech executive search firm. In July 2014, 28‑year‑old German tourist Lars Mittank vanished after a series of strange, paranoid behaviours at a Bulgarian airport, caught on CCTV running into the woods, never to be seen again. He'd left his luggage behind, seemed terrified of people who weren't there, and was acting like someone who desperately believed he was in danger. Iran turned into a quagmire for Trump in a matter of days. Gas prices are skyrocketing. And there's still no clear plan. The number Joe has never seen before with independent voters - is there a way out for Trump in Iran? No. How bad can it get? Why Joe thinks Trump's one magic bullet here just won't cut it anymore. Plus - a look at new data shows that the turning point moment Trump and MAGA were hoping for looks more like the beginning of a civil war than a way out. Learn more about your ad choices.
