Three Girls One Pod read a book, well two listen to it on audible while another one cracks open the actual book. There’s so much detail and so much information it’s hard to touch on everything, but we do our best. While Jessica’s parents seem to blend together with Britany’s parents in our minds, we do know how brave, strong and inspiring Jessica Simpson is to us after reading her book, Open Book. Ep. 109 War On ChristmasJust because we are tired of the nonsense of “War on Christmas” we decided the best way to convey this is by declaring official WAR ON CHRISTMAS! It’s on! Happy, Merry, Blessed whatever you celebrate. Come listen as we poke holes in traditions for the holidays, cover some of their origins and of course with as many f bombs as snowflakes falling from Seth. He went hard, what can we say. While Jessica, takes joy in destroying The Grinch and traditions most people have grown to accept and love. In all seriousness, we take time to point out the similarities across the different holiday celebrations. While digging deeper into WHY we do WHAT we do during the holidays. How cringey the new version of “Baby It’s Cold Outside” seems. Are people really, like REALLY upset about this song? We join each other on our extra large soapbox to protest Christmas music. Who would have thought that would be the uniting factor in this show. This “War on Christmas” thing is absolutely absurd. And yes we see the irony in us discussing this and naming the episode that as well...it’s called humor. Make Christmas Mardi Grais with snow again. Caroling was a reversal of the classes. The lower class would go around singing and demanding payment of goods, food, booze and money OR they trashed your place. As someone who works for a nonprofit, I could get behind going knocking on doors, singing songs and demanding money...OR getting to burn down their house if refused. Jokes. These are jokes. Remember that. lolDutch tradition of exchanging books is our personal favorite tradition to participate in with our mutual friends. Outside of Krampus and darker Christmas themes. SPOOKY CHRISTMAS discussion...in 3...2...1For our fellow hippie science geeks...Here are links to some of the research done for this episode. I am excited to have Jessica Watson on today’s show. Jessica became the youngest person to sail solo nonstop around the world. She was named Young Australian of the year in 2011 and received an OAM (Order of Australia Medal). She is co-founder of the marine startup Deckee and Youth Ambassador for The United Nations World Food Programme. She is currently working on her MBA and her second book, a novel published by Hachette. While Jessica was on her solo trip sailing around the world, she learned to sail with her ears as she listened to her boat to understand changes in the ocean and with weather conditions. She takes us on an amazing journey of how she sailed with her ears, and how she uses her deeper listening skills to conduct television interviews. She talks about the power of silence and not interrupting while listening. All in an effort to help people and groups listen to each other. Today’s Topics: How Jessica broke the news to her family about sailing solo around the world. Jessica kept focus using small goals and different milestones along the way. How Jessica sailed by her ears by listening to the sound of the water. There is constant noise from the boat and the roar of the waves. A noise that you are not used to can signal that something is wrong. How amazing it was for Jessica to have such amazing alone time. The role of listening when sailing and communicating with boat crews. The importance of letting others express their thoughts and feelings. How listening is a practice, discipline and a process. The power of listening, body language, and silence when interviewing people.
