We've been wondering how prison education programs have grown since the reinstatement of Pell grants for incarcerated learners a couple of years ago. So we sent our producer Jeff Young to learn more. It turns out colleges wanting to set up programs face complicated logistics and cultural challenges. To help, several states have recently set up statewide consortiums to help. The NRL has issued a decree that any player signing with R360 will face a 10-year ban from returning. It's another in a string of developments around the rebel competition which could shape up as a real threat to both codes if it ever gets off the ground. Jamie Wall spoke to Lisa Owen.

Shelby Houlihan isn't running from her past. She's running straight into whatever comes next.With a late-race surge and her trademark finishing kick, Shelby captured the 5,000m U.S. title at Hayward Field. She proved it: she's not done. Not even close.Just a few years ago, her career looked over. For an athlete at the height of her prime, it was a devastating blow. Before that, Houlihan had been the face of U.S. middle-distance running. She shattered American records in the 1500 meters (3:54.99) and 5000 meters (14:23.92), won 12 national titles, and finished just off the podium at the 2019 World Championships.Her rise had seemed unstoppable. Until it wasn't.But Houlihan didn't disappear. She trained in the shadows. And when the ban was lifted in January 2025, she wasted no time. First came a win in the 3000m at the Razorback Invitational. Then a silver medal at the World Indoor Championships in Nanjing. Now, a stunning U.S. 5000m title in Eugene–her 13th national crown and her first major outdoor championship since her return.The race itself was tactical and tense. The early pace was slow, the field bunched. But with one lap to go, Houlihan made her move. An Allegheny County state House member has led the charge to repeal a 150-year-old ban on Sunday hunting in Pennsylvania. Governor Josh Shapiro is expected to sign it into law this week. A state appeals court ruled that a Western Pennsylvania municipality violated its own zoning law when it allowed a natural gas well to be built in a residential area. The future of the federal food benefits program known as SNAP - the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program - is unclear. Nearly 2 million Pennsylvanians depend on SNAP benefits, and it costs about $500 million to administer SNAP annually in Pennsylvania. But there are sweeping changes to the program's state and federal funding formula going into effect, as a result of President Trump's newly-signed spending law. Governor Shapiro has said Trump's plan might mean the end for SNAP benefits. A Lancaster County lawmaker has introduced a bill to clarify the role of constables in the Commonwealth. Rep. Tom Jones, an East Donegal Township Republican, introduced a bill to modernize the regulations governing constables and clarify their roles in the court system and law enforcement. Tower Health is eliminating 50 positions across four hospitals, including Reading Hospital, and outpatient services. The nonprofit company says it's part of a streamlining process at the healthcare system. The Schuylkill County borough of Saint Clair is celebrating its 175th anniversary this week. And a deeper dive: Pennsylvania needs more power to meet growing demands for electricity. Stephen Ivey Aviation News U.S. Lifts 50-Year Ban on Supersonic Overland Flights Supersonic flight by civilian aircraft over the U.S. was originally banned in 1973 due to concerns about sonic boom noise pollution and potential damage on the ground. However, on June 6, 2025, President Donald Trump signed an executive order directing the FAA to repeal the ban and replace it with an interim noise-based certification standard.  The Order instructs the FAA Administrator to establish a standard for supersonic aircraft noise certification that considers community acceptability, economic reasonableness, and technological feasibility. The Army determined that the quick advancement of inexperienced crews was leading to unsafe situations. The Army is considering outsourcing pilot training to a contractor-owned-and-operated schoolhouse. Judge Denies G100UL Motion A California judge ruled that GAMI's G100UL is not "commercially available" and therefore cannot be mandated for sale in California to replace leaded aviation fuel. This comes after a motion by the Center for Environmental Health to enforce a 2014 consent agreement that says FBOs and distributors must sell a lower lead alternative that is “commercially available.” The judge ruled that the fuel must first be universally available to all piston-powered aircraft. There must be a “general consensus” from the industry and potential customers that the fuel is safe and appropriate for their use. Europe Flight Delay Compensation Reform Coming, And It's Bad News The European Union's flight delay compensation policy EC261 (sometimes called EU261), has been unchanged since 2014. Some EU transport ministers have been discussing reforms where passengers would have to experience longer delays before being eligible for compensation.  Currently, compensation ranges from €250 to €600: €250 compensation if you're delayed by at least two hours for flights under 1,500km (930 miles). €400 compensation if you're delayed by at least three hours for flights of 1,500-3,500km (930-2,200 miles). €600 compensation if you're delayed by at least four hours for flights over 3,500km (2,200 miles). A new proposal would: Provide €300 compensation if you're delayed at least four hours for flights under 3,500 km. Provide €500 compensation if you're delayed at least six hours for flights over 3,500 km. See DOT's Airline Customer Service Dashboard. What is a Fire Boss? The agriculture aircraft that doubles as a water bomber Dave Frisch, the president of Portage Aircraft Specialties Ltd., sells Air Tractors designed for agricultural spraying. He says that if you add specially designed floats, these aircraft become a type of water bomber known as the Fire Boss. Being a small aircraft, the Fire Boss can scoop water out of smaller bodies of water and get into tighter spaces.

Young people in Zanzibar are able to pursue boxing for the first time in nearly six decades, now that a ban on the sport has been lifted. Zanzibar's first president Abeid Karume banned boxing in 1965, saying it was inhumane and against the culture of Zanzibaris. In the years since, some aspiring boxers had to travel to mainland Tanzania to pursue their ambitions. It means that people on the island were only recently able to enjoy one of Africa's most popular sports in person for the first time in nearly 60 years. But after all that time, are people on Zanzibar ready to lace up their gloves and embrace boxing again?

Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, has cleared the way for former President Trump to return to the platforms in the coming weeks. It comes two years after Trump was suspended following the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol. Twitter also reinstated Trump's account, but he hasn't tweeted since the decision.
