Hello and welcome to Bill vs the MCU! Each month your hosts Pop Break Podcasts Editor Alex Marcus and Pop Break Editor in Chief Bill Bodkin take another step into the wider Marvel Multiverse, with reviews and interviews on the film and television series that may be drawn upon as the MCU dives deeper and deeper into its Multiverse Saga. After completing their twelve month rewatch of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Alex and Bill are fully embracing the ethos of the MCU's Multiverse Saga with miniseries devoted to all the MCU-adjacent material out there. Currently, the pair are taking a guided tour of the Netflix Defenders-verse, featuring reviews of select seasons of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage, along with this universe's crossover event The Defenders. This month, Alex and Bill are continuing the multiversal phase of their podcast by checking in on 2015's Jessica Jones S1. They praise Krysten Ritter's star-making turn as the titular Jessica Jones and the insidiously evil performance by everyone's favorite Doctor, David Tennant. They also debate the merits of the Will Simpson character and just who's to blame for him sucking so hard, whether we needed to learn that much about Jeri Hogarth's divorce, and which of Jessica's days was the very worst day of them all. They are also joined by special guest Tori Preston, Managing Editor of Pajiba.com and host of their TV Podcast Podjiba, to help understand the cultural context around the series when it first debuted, how well its emotional and sexual abuse storylines hold up post #MeToo, and what went wrong with those last two seasons of the series. Alex and Bill also unveil their new monthly segment Miss Minutes Marvel Memo, where they try to cram in a month's of MCU headlines in five minutes! Don't forget to come back next month when we'll be reviewing Daredevil S2 Jessica Jones S1 and Daredevil S2 are available to stream on Disney+. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

I saw the trailer. It's fair. 0:08 - The internet just couldn't wait to spoil a Rescue Rangers character cameo (don't worry, I don't spoil it because I'm considerate like that) 18:35 - Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is double featuring with a movie that I've already seen and didn't particularly like 26:07 - Disney dropped the first trailer for She-Hulk and I have OPINIONS!!! 40:38 - I beat another copyright claim. Yay me! 43:32 - Remember the possibilities teased at the end of Predator 2? 32 years later, they're making good on them! If you missed Saturday's live broadcast of Molehill Mountain, you can watch the video replay on YouTube.  Alternatively, you can catch audio versions of the show on iTunes. As seen in a still that's previously been circulated, Bennet's character is adorned head to toe with period-specific clothing as the Agents fight their way through the timeline. Bennet herself previously teased the final season would please long-time fans of the show. "I can say we are back in time, so we have to get… the whole goal is to get back to where we were," Bennet explained last October. She added, "So that means traveling through a bunch of different time periods and who knows who we see on the way back, if we even get back. It's actually one of the most… season 4 and season 7 are definitely my favorite seasons of SHIELD. For the long-term fans, it's a really big pay-up and it's really, really fun,” she added. “When you've done six seasons and that many hours of TV, it's pretty hard on the writers to think what else do we do, and they killed it. Season seven is a really, really fun one."   MCU – MARVEL STUDIOS   Marvel’s final Black Widow trailer ‘goes back to the beginning’ https://www.polygon.com/2020/3/9/21171352/black-widow-final-trailer-taskmaster-marvel-studios-release-may-1 Marvel Studios dropped its final trailer on Monday before Black Widow’s May 1 release date. The movie, which takes place after Captain America: Civil War and before Avengers: Infinity War, will follow Natasha Romanoff — the Black Widow — for one last mission. The new trailer focuses heavily on Romanoff’s familial relationships, particularly with Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), who is essentially a sister. We’ve seen the two women fight in a previous trailer, but this is a more intimate look at their relationship and bond. Like Romanoff, Belova was a fellow recruit for the Black Widow program.   OUTRO [55:58]   Haley, Lauren, Michelle and Stargate Pioneer love to hear back from you about how you would rate the episode we just discussed, your top 5 Marvel character lists, your science of Marvel questions, who would you pick in an all-female Avenger team, or which Marvel male you would like to see shirtless. Roxxon's cameos have continued in a Marvel Cinematic Universe short film as a gas station visited by Phil Coulson while en route to investigate Thor's hammer in New Mexico while Iron Man 3 had a Roxxon executive captured by the Ten Rings. Roxxon has also had a significant presence in Marvel Television productions, appearing in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Agent Carter, Daredevil and, perhaps most prominently Cloak & Dagger (in addition to smaller shoutouts in Runaways and Iron Fist). It is unclear what role the corporation will play in Loki, but will hopefully amount to more than a fleeting cameo.   OUTRO [40:42]   Haley, Lauren, Michelle and Stargate Pioneer love to hear back from you about how you would rate the episode we just discussed, your top 5 Marvel character lists, your science of Marvel questions, who would you pick in an all-female Avenger team, or which Marvel male you would like to see shirtless. Her investigation takes a new twist after Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) explains everything to her and Malcolm Ducasse (Eka Darville), but tells them to stay away. Thanks to a cryptic conversation with her mother, involving a sex hotel and fantasy rooms, Jessica finds Malus and convinces him to go to a country with no extradition so Alisa can take Hogarth’s deal without betraying him. During their conversation he tells Jessica that he never treated a person called Shane Ryback (Eden Marryshow). She passes this information to Hogarth who dismisses the notion. But arriving home Hogarth discovers Inez (Leah Gibson) and Ryback gone and her Apartment trashed and robbed. In this heartbreaking moment she realizes she was not cured of her A.L.S. condition. Meanwhile, assisted by an unwitting Malcolm, Trish goes against Jessica’s wishes for selfish reasons and tracks Malus to his hotel room; but her intervention may damage Jessica’s carefully constructed plan. As Jessica finalises Karl’s new forged passport, courtesy of Oscar Arocho (J.R. Ramirez), she discovers that Alisa is being tormented by one of her guards, Dale Holiday (Brian Hutchison). Investigating him, Jessica finds evidence that he is a hunter who murders inmates to add to his collection. When Jessica goes to confront him to warn him off her mother, he attacks her, and she accidentally kills him in self-defense. Thanks so much for listening to our Jessica Jones 210 Review Podcast. Jones described the character as "someone struggling to find his identity", and identified with the character's loneliness being an orphan like Rand. He noted that "Danny gets really stressed and really pissed off sometimes, and I understand that ... [his] optimism and where that comes from."In preparation for the role, Jones studied kung fu, wushu, and tai chi, along with weight training, Buddhist philosophy, and meditation. Toby Nichols portrays a young Danny Rand.   Jessica Henwick - as - Colleen Wing (Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Game of Thrones) http://www.imdb.com/name/nm3725055/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1 A martial artist ally of Rand who runs her own martial arts dojo called Chikara Dojo in New York City. Henwick felt the most defining word for Wing was "alone", saying, "She doesn't want to be anyone's love interest and open herself up in that way." Henwick also tried "to pull out that sort of very dry humor that [Wing] has, and that no bullshit New Yorker demeanor" from the comics version in her portrayal.   Tom Pelphrey - as - Ward Meachum (Guiding Light, As the World Turns, Banshee) http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1670601/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1 The son of Harold and childhood acquaintance of Rand, whose work building up Rand Enterprises with his sister Joy is threatened to be undone with Rand's return. Ward is a character from the comics, though Pelphrey noted "we’re not necessarily beholden to representing him [in the series] exactly as he appears in the comic book." Stroup said that Ward would experience some "male angst" on Rand's return, because "Ward would have been the one who picked on [Rand] when he was little so as pure and innocent and great as Iron Fist is, he comes in and he causes some problems" there. Ilan Eskenazi portrays a teenage Ward Meachum.   Jessica Stroup - as - Joy Meachum (90210, The Following, Jack Reacher: Never Go Back) http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1888211/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1 The daughter of Harold and childhood acquaintance of Rand, whose work building up Rand Enterprises with her brother Ward is threatened to be undone with Rand's return. Stroup said that Joy "absolutely loves" Rand, and his return to New York is "like this rebirth of what she once was, and she gets to ask these questions about herself because he’s posing them to her." Stroup said that Joy would initially be unsure whether Rand is who he says he is. Aimee Laurence portrays a young Joy Meachum.   Ramón Rodríguez - as - Bakuto (The Wire, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Charlie's Angels TV Series, Need for Speed) http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1913125/?ref_=ttfc_fc_cl_t9 A leader of a faction of The Hand and Colleen Wing's sensei.   Sacha Dhawan - as - Davos (After Earth, An Adventure in Space and Time, Sherlock) http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0223527/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1 A skilled martial artist who is the son of Lei Kung and Rand's former best friend in K'un-Lun, who grew envious when Rand became the Iron Fist. Although Dhawan first appeared in the ninth episode of the first season, Dhawan noted that the majority of Davos' storyline was intended to be explored in a potential second season.   Rosario Dawson  - as - Claire Temple (Josie and the Pussycats, Men in Black II, The Adventures of Pluto Nash, Sin City, Rent, Clerks II, Robot Chicken, Gemini Division, Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, The Defenders) http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0206257/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1 A former nurse from Hell's Kitchen who joins Wing's dojo. Dawson reprises her role from previous Marvel Netflix series.   David Wenham  - as - Harold Meachum (Moulin Rouge!, The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, After the Deluge, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, Van Helsing, 300, 300: Rise of an Empire, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales) http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0920992/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1 A ruthless corporate leader and co-founder of Rand Enterprises who was partners with Rand’s parents at the time of their deaths. Regarding Harold's relationship with his children, Joy and Ward, Wenham said the dynamic between the three of them "is complex, to say the least. It’s multilayered, it’s multidimensional, it’s surprising and it’s forever changing, depending on the circumstances."   RECURRING CAST   David Furr as Wendell Rand (Bit part actor in a ton. Noted for appearances in 13 Hours, TURN: Washington's Spies) http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2412970/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1 Danny's father and co-founder of Rand Enterprises.   Barrett Doss as Megan http://www.imdb.com/name/nm5495383/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1 A secretary to Danny Rand and the Meachums at Rand Enterprises.   Alex Wyse as Kyle http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2537879/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1 Harold Meachum's personal assistant.   Marquis Rodriguez as Darryl http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2532658/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1 A student at Wing's dojo. Rodriguez reprises his role from Luke Cage.   Wai Ching Ho as Gao http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0387395/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1 An accomplished woman and former ally of Wilson Fisk with her own heroin trade in Hell's Kitchen who has connections with The Hand.

CRUSH SYNDROME [03:34]   Coming back to the Jessica Jones series for the first time in over a month the Legends Of S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents are confronted once again by how horrible Killgrave is once again. After the end of the previous episode when Killgrave had Hope kill her parents, Killgave takes over a family’s home terrorizing all involved, Killgrave has ruined a skillful surgeon’s life, and effectively ended an EMS’ life and career. Killgrave is getting a rep for making the lives a billion times worse for people that are devoted to helping others. The Agents are treated to a complete non-trained drunken bar fight and divert into a side conversation of Rugby and Lacrosse including Archer’s past with Lacrosse camp. However, the Agents were treated to awesome all out superhero sex for the very first time! “Supervillain “Lab Rat” Lauren is particularly taken by the scene. Also the relationship between Trish Walker and Jessica Jones continues to unfold this episode including Trish’s training and Lauren give a very short background into why the two have their relationship in the series versus what happened to date in the comics. It turns out that the college class scene in this episode would have been one of the most exciting classes Lauren and Haley had in school. Lauren defines the term “#LannisterKink” in relation to Jessica Jones’ upstairs neighbors. Agent SP learns that The Star Wars Rebel character Kanan is voiced by Freddie Prinze Jr.. And all the Agents agree that Jeri Hogarth played by Carrie Ann Moss is NOT a good person.   "A.K.A. Crush Syndrome”   Directed By:  S. J. We discuss our theories on Jeri Hogarth (Carrie-Anne Moss) and Officer Simpson (Wil Traval) and an interesting possible future for the upstairs neighbour Robyn (played by Colby Minifie) along with our usual top 5 on this episode and our feedback on the series so far. Synopsis for Jessica Jones S01E07 AKA Top Shelf Perverts Podcast Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) slumps further in to heavy drinking, after her break from Luke Cage (Mike Colter), and begins to loose the plot as she takes up Jeri Hogarth's increasingly malicious and violent plan to extract the divorce from her ex-partner, Wendy Ross-Hogarth (Robin Weigert). As things breakdown for Jessica, further tragedy calls at Alias Investigation's front door as an innocent bystander becomes unexpectedly embroiled in the complex and dangerous life of Jessica Jones and Kilgrave (David Tennant). As she formulates an extreme plan to combat Kilgrave and draw him out it requires all of her friends unwanted help to prevent Jessica from carrying out her dangerous plan to outwit Kilgrave. As events crescendo between Jessica and Kilgrave the extent of his grand design becomes clear as he truly infiltrates her childhood memories. Synopsis Jessica Jones S01E04 AKA 99 Friends podcast Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) becomes racked with paranoia as she tries to uncover the people or person who took all of those photographs. She suspects that everyone and anyone could be under the influence of Kilgrave (David Tennant). A new case sent to Jessica from the office of Hogarth, Chao and Dennowitz immediately raises alarm bells but as she investigates further her new client Audrey Eastman (Jessica Hecht) and her "cheating" husband Carlo (Ricky Paull Goldin) have a very different agenda. In the meantime Trish Walker (Rachael Taylor) begins to recover and move on from her ordeal apologising to Kilgrave on-air and also forming an unexpected bond with her assailant the police officer - Will Simpson (Wil Traval). The events at Trish Talk also yields unforeseen results as people come forward claiming that they too have been controlled and manipulated by Kilgrave. An increasingly cold and calculated Jeri Hogarth (Carrie-Anne Moss) establishes Jessica's therapy - a Kilgrave survivors group. The first meeting of the group throws up a lead as to the identity of the photographer that leads Jessica to a known associate close to home.
