This week Megan and Nia cover Zac Efron's episode of Room Raiders and MTV's weirdest dating show Parental Control. They remember how fucked up black lights are, why child ZEfron was real weird and whether their childhood rooms could get them a date (they couldn't). It's a silly one about culture that was pervasive 10-15 years ago, so very much top of mind! Make sure you subscribe, rate/review us and follow the socials for fun bits! Happy New Year! We're celebrating by getting drunk and regressing to our 10-year-old selves with Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens in High School Musical. Long before Olivia Rodrigo introduced a whole new generation to this DCOM classic - and before Zefron was a household name - Dan watched this movie when he was home sick in 4th grade. He hasn't watched it in its entirety since. Ring in the new year with us in this official-unofficial sing-a-long that gets more and more chaotic as it goes on. **Spoiler: we sing the entirety of Breaking Free** Follow us on Instagram: @movienightmates Follow us on Twitter: @movienightm8s Subscribe to our YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCEIgHirQmwoK4EW1DRwyRRA Watch High School Musical here: Disney+ (Free w/ Subscription) Amazon Prime YouTube Google Play iTunes Theme: Hope is Not Lost (https://freemusicarchive.org/music/jim-hall/synth-kid-elsewhere/hope-is-not-lost) by Jim Hall (https://freemusicarchive.org/music/jim-hall). "Who says we have to let it go?" is kiiiiiiiiiind of the motto for our entire enterprise of two adult women talking about DCOMs, so this capper to our HSM saga is major. It's also our only episode that's about a Real Actual In Movie Theatres Movie, so you know the wait is WORTH IT. We're back with the gang one last time - Zefron, Vanessa, and....uh... Rocketman. Mix a hunky heartthrob, a pretty-yet-down-to-earth lady, and some background noise set in a seaside town and what do you get? Well, any Nicholas Sparks movie, but this time around, we'll call it The Lucky One (2012). Which is what we watched this week! This film stars Zac Efron as a newly returned Iraq War veteran looking to find his good luck charm, played by dog kennel owning Taylor Schilling. Blythe Danner is also in this, as the quirky grandmother who wants to get her a piece of that tasty Zefron. We establish what makes a Sparks romance work, as well as what this film did right and wrong. We round the episode out by playing a game we call Sparks or Not Sparks, where Max has to guess what are actual Nicholas Sparks movies based on synopsis alone. If you have a lot of thoughts about Nicholas Sparks movies, hit us up at TheCriticalBreakdownPodcast@gmail.com! Or leave us a review on iTunes, Stitcher, or any other podcatcher around.
