The annual Bishop Auckland Town Council Horticultural and Produce Show will take place in The Town Hall on Saturday 23rd September 2017 from 12pm till 3pm. Darlington born and bred, David Hogg, 67, has spent all his working life at the 72-year old firm, serving 20 years as a legal executive before qualifying as a solicitor in 1995, and promoted to partner in 2002. David still has his original contract that shows his first day at work as being 14th August 1967 and his starting pay of £5 a week. Smiles 4 Claire is a fundraising group established in memory of Claire Shaw. Claire was a brilliant research nurse and secretary at St Marys Junior Football Club, a great wife, Mam and friend to many and she sadly lost her battle with cancer on 2nd March 2016. The Smiles 4 Claire team are holding a family day on Saturday 29th July at Bishop Cricket Club in her memory. Gillian Campbell caught up with Andrew Shaw and the rest of the Smiles 4 Claire team to find out more....

Emily explains what she had to do for the competition and tells us a little about what it's like to be a pupil in the school. Alex and George, Year 2 pupils from Cockton Hill Infant School in Bishop Auckland, joined us today with their teacher, Mrs Harnaman. The school has just been awarded Green Flag status as recognition for all the work the children are doing to promote sustainability. They have been addressing many of the global issues facing us today, including renewable energy, recycling, reducing waste and the problem of litter. They have demonstrated that it is possible for us all to play our part as guardians of the planet.

Bishop FM's Chris Percival went along to Bishop Auckland Methodist Church earlier this week to meet Lucy, Craig and Sandra. The church raised sufficient funds to install a community defibrillator and Chris found out where the idea came from and how the fund raising was done. The community training course for the safe use of the defibrillator will be held on Monday 14th August 18:00 - 20:00. Local author Caz Harvey explains how the idea for her new book came about. The book, "When Kevin Found His Purr" is a heart-warming tale of a human and a cat forming a bond, making bad things better by making good things happen! This delightful illustrated story tells the tale of a lonely cat, and of a woman, who both needed love. A true story of how hope can come into your life when you most need it! Bernard has made a return visit to our area to promote his new book, "Miss Perfect". Here, Bernard fondly reminisces on his time as a Lecturer at Durham University and later as a social worker based in Shildon and Spennymoor. Bernard has drawn on these memories to produce a story which, according to Mike Amos, is "wry, amusing, perceptive, insightful and greatly entertaining."
