I believe that most men know they're leaving room on the table for personal and professional growth and while their diagnosis may be correct, the prescription is wrong. Most men seem to believe that if only their circumstances were different (their boss, their wife, their financial prosperity, etc.), their lives would be better. But the reality is a new circumstances, without a change you yourself, will only produce more of the same. My guest today, Andrew Shaw, has made it his life's work to help men break free from the patterns that are holding them back, many of them subconscious. Today, we talk about discipline, resilience, the importances of what he calls, “choice points,” the critical differences between taking fault and taking responsibility, and how many men have over-corrected against the attack on masculinity. It's Monday and that means it's a banner day for hockey fans, as your favourite co-hosts are back once again to talk a little hockey! Today's episode is Season 7, Episode 25 (#65) The Shaw, or Shawzy if you're feelin' it. Andrew Shaw was an agitator on the ice, the kind of fella you want on your team but you hate to play again — he paid the price to make the play and has the battle scars, and two cups, to prove it! He wasn't always the most eloquent when it came to speaking his mind — let this be a lesson to you kids at home, don't always say and do as your favourite players say and do! Then we do a league wide wrap up and tell you all about the week that was for Jets fans, plus give you a break down on the upcoming playoffs as we enter the final week of play — who is in, who is out and who has tee times booked for next weekend! Finally, we've got stats lines o' plenty — The Breadman continues to deliver, Adam's foxy when it comes to dishing up the apples and we tip our hats to the Western Michigan Broncos, who won their first NCAA Frozen Four in their first Frozen Four appearance!

I welcomed Wuhan-based Andrew Shaw onto the CHP to talk about his book. It's all about the plundering of China's cultural treasures and imperial artifacts by not just the British, French, and Americans. It seems everyone got in on the act. Even the local people. It's a miracle there was anything left for Chian's museums. Many of you are familiar with the stories about looting that took place in China between the 1840s and the turn of the century. In Andrew Shaw's book, "Spoil" we'll look at the extent of what happened. And on the next episode, we'll feature Andrew again, this time talking about his new book on the history of jade. That's coming February 16th. Of course, Patreon and CHP Premium subscribers will get to hear it a couple weeks earlier. Consultant Neurologist Steven Allder of Re:Cognition Health has applied his wealth of experience investigating Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) to understanding the impact of Long Covid on the brain. In this week's conversation we discuss inflammation of the brain of Long Covid patients which is visible using PET imaging; Allder believes this inflammation could be driving the neurological symptoms, and beyond, in a similar way to the impact of a blow to the head observing numerous similarities to TBI; we discuss polyvagal nerve theory; and Allder explains the way in which it takes more than just cold, hard evidence to persuade the scientific community. And following up on our previous episode, Dr Allder is working with Prof. Andrew Shaw at Attomarker, believing that Long Covid may be driven by viral persistence and that establishing a patient's antibody gap, using the Attomarker testing, could enable us to remove viral residue with tailored antibody treatment.Living with Long Covid? Professor Andrew Shaw, University of Exeter, believes that he has devised a diagnostic test for Long Covid. His company, Attomarker, have developed a test which can reveal a gap in a patient's antibody spectrum – their response to acute SARS-COV2 from a finger prick of blood. This gap, he says, has lead to a viral residue that causes the chronic symptoms of Long Covid. Their hypothesis is that the gap can then be filled, either with monoclonal antibodies, or with an appropriate vaccine, to rid the patient of the disease. In this week's episode we explore the theories of antibody response to the strains of Covid, the effects of the vaccine, the results that the Attomarker test and treatment which is being offered by Re:Cognition Health have so far yielded. On today's show, Dane is joined by Chris Hine of The Star Tribune to discuss his career as an openly gay sportswriter. Chris has worked as a traveling beat writer since 2009, for The Chicago Tribune covering Notre Dame football and the Chicago Blackhawks, and most recently for The Star Tribune as a Minnesota Timberwolves reporter. His job has taken him all over the country covering hundreds of players in his career. Two of those players from Chris's beats — Andrew Shaw of the Blackhawks and Anthony Edwards of the Timberwolves — entered the public eye for videos that displayed homophobic language. In this episode, Chris describes the repair work he saw Shaw do in Chicago and the repair work he hopes Edwards can do in the Minnesota community. You can read Chris's story with Andrew Shaw here. And you can read the reporting Chris has done in the wake of Edwards's comments here, along with his interview with Minnesota Lynx head coach Cheryl Reeve here. Learn more about your ad choices.
