Welcome United States Army Veteran of the Vietnam war Allen Pope to the show! - What an amazing conversation. At 18 years of age Allen Pope was given a letter from U.S Government that declared that he was primarily fit for "draft duty" (1A) into the United States Army as his then girlfriend (eventual wife) was pregnant with his first child. Allen shipped out to Vietnam as a Weather Ballistics Specialist at 19 and served 12 months on the ground in Vietnam. We talk about what it was like being drafted into the U.S. Army, becoming a "Tunnel Rat", communication technology (or lack ther-of), the drug war soldiers faced while coping with a confusing war, and how he has succeeded as an honorable civilian since the experience. My friend Jessica is a rare soul. We haven't talked since we both chose to separate from active duty military service.
