What if you could think like the world's toughest human? Not admire it from a distance. Not read about it. Actually run the same internal patterns — the beliefs, the strategies, the way he processes doubt, discomfort, and the voice that says stop. That's what this episode is.One of the foundational ideas in NLP is that anything any human being can do can be elicited, modelled, and replicated. If you can identify how someone thinks at their best — the structure beneath the performance — you can hand that as a shortcut to anyone willing to step into it.Success leaves clues. Hypnosis is how we install them.In this first Modelling Excellence Monday session, Adam takes seven core principles from the philosophy of David Goggins — retired Navy SEAL, ultramarathon world record holder, and one of the most followed voices on mental toughness on the planet — and builds a deep hypnosis session around them so you can begin running those same patterns from the inside out.The Seven Principles Modelled in This Session:The 40% Rule — When your mind says stop, you're only 40% of the way thereThe Accountability Mirror — Brutal honesty with yourself, no excuses, no storiesCallous the Mind — Discomfort is not the enemy, it is the training groundThe Cookie Jar — Pull strength from everything you've already survivedTake Souls — Use doubt and disbelief as fuelBuild the Savage — Motivation is unreliable; discipline is the system that runs when it isn'tNever Finished — The quest for greatness is unendingHow to Use This EpisodeFind somewhere quiet, put your headphones in, and give yourself 45 minutes where you won't be disturbed. Lying down is fine. Eyes closed. Just follow Adam's voice. You don't need to believe it will work. You just need to show up.Who Should Adam Model Next?Modelling Excellence Monday is built on one idea: anyone in the world who achieves something extraordinary is running a set of internal patterns that can be identified, extracted, and handed to you.Who inspires you? Who do you watch and think — I don't just want to admire that, I want to understand how they think?Nominate your person — an athlete, entrepreneur, scientist, philosopher, artist, anyone — and Adam may build a future hypnosis session around them and their area of excellence.

Description:When was the last time you felt truly alive in your body?In this episode of The John Grdina Classroom— your life faith podcast for personal transformation, fitness, and faith — host John Grdina opens with a raw excerpt from his first book Freedom to Ascend describing the mirror moment that changed everything. From post-college slob to ultramarathon runner, John shares the unfiltered story of what it looks like to go from zero to elite — one disciplined day at a time.Inspired by David Goggins' Can't Hurt Me and Cameron Hanes' philosophy on peak performance, John now trains daily with 225pushups and 50 pullups while preparing for the Cleveland Marathon and optimizing his health from the inside out through monthly blood testing with Rythmlab. But the most powerful story in this episode belongs to Marine veteran Mike Egan — who lost both legs to an IED in 2012 and this past weekend completed over 100 miles on his arms at the BPN Go One More ultra backyard marathon. Every hour on the hour. 4.2 miles per loop. Through mud, heat, and rain. No aid. No exceptions. No excuses. At the core of this episode is a truth that every person of faith needs to hear: your body is a temple, and honoring it is an act of worship. Discipline in fitness is not separate from your spiritual life — it is a spiritual act. Most of us are operating at 40% of our true potential. Mike Egan's story obliterates every excuse that stands between you and your next level. If you are searching for a self-improvement podcast that connects fitness, faith, and personal transformation with zero excuses — this episode will challenge everything you think your limits are. What You Will Take Away:Your body is a temple and should be treated with respect and care. Discipline in fitness is a spiritual act that honors God. Most people operate at 40% of their potential and you can push far beyond that. Consistent training and self-awareness lead to peak health and spiritual growth. And Mike Egan's story is proof that the will God placed inside you is stronger than any limitation you face.Sound Bites From This Episode:"When was the last time you felt truly alive?""Mike Egan redefined what the human body and spirit can do.""Glorify God in your body — that's not a suggestion. But his story didn't start with strength - it started with pain, poverty, and self-doubt. He grew up facing abuse, racism, and learning disabilities, and for years he lived an average, unhappy life until one day he decided to completely rebuild himself from the ground up. Through relentless hard work, he transformed his body and mind into a symbol of mental toughness and discipline. Today, Goggins is known worldwide as a speaker and author of Can't Hurt Me and Never Finished, inspiring millions to face their fears, silence excuses, and push beyond what they think is possible. His message is simple: you can't control your genetics, your past, or your circumstances - but you can control your effort and your mindset. Why do we smile when we are actually angry? Why do we say "Yes" when our body is screaming "No"? We often shame ourselves for being "people-pleasers," calling it a weakness. But in Week 5, we flip the script. We learn that "Fawning" is actually a brilliant biological safety strategy—one that kept us safe when we were powerless. In this episode, we explore: The Biology of Fawning: Understanding the "Please Don't Hurt Me" response and why it is a survival instinct, not a personality flaw. Nice vs. Kind: Distinguishing between fear-based transactional behavior ("Nice") and love-based generous behavior ("Kind"). “Send Coach John a message”I found a great recipe for living a great life. It has 3 parts, which for me is easy (still tough for me) to remember and connect with. This gem comes from Reads with Ravi (@readswithravi) and it reminds me of going after and building a “great” life that is made up of my definition and not so much of what the “world” says our life should be made up of. Awesome quote here: “The only way to achieve greatness in life is to have patience, consistency, and discipline.” -  David Goggins (who wrote a powerful book, “Can't Hurt Me” which I read last year).  This is connected with a few other items that have been on my mind and heart that I want to share in a few future episodes.  Those 3 items of patience, consistency and discipline are things that I have been connected with and sometimes focused on - but usually not connected together and not as deep as I need to be focused on. Again, intentional focus is something that I need to connect with these 3 items for sure!  Thanks for listening.  Please take a few moments to subscribe & share this with someone, also leave a 5 Star rating on Apple Podcasts and ITunes or other services where you find this show.  Find me on Facebook:  https://www.facebook.com/coachtoexpectsuccess/   on Twitter / “X”:  @coachtosuccess   and on Instagram at:  @coachjohndaly  - My YouTube Channel is at: Coach John Daly.   Email me at: CoachJohnDalyPodcast@gmail.com     You can also head on over to https://www.coachtoexpectsuccess.com/ and get in touch with me there on my homepage along with checking out my Top Book list too.  Other things there on my site are being worked on too.  Please let me know that you are reaching out to me from my podcast.  ** I would appreciate anyone to try clicking on the top of the show notes where it says "Send us a text" to leave a few thoughts / comments / questions.  It's a new feature that I'd like to see how it works. **

Episode Description:This was one of the most intense conversations James ever recorded. This archive conversation captures David Goggins at the moment Can't Hurt Me was launching — before the mythology around him fully formed. What makes this episode powerful is how grounded it is. He's not selling inspiration. He's explaining the mechanics of suffering, discipline, and self-reinvention in plain terms.Goggins describes growing up with abuse, learning disabilities, fear, and self-hatred — and how those became the raw material for rebuilding himself. He explains his concept of the “40% rule,” the mental governor that convinces people they're done long before they actually are. He also breaks down why failure isn't the end of anything — it's the beginning of knowledge. The conversation moves from ultramarathons and Navy SEAL training into everyday applications: work ethic, education, relationships, accountability, and the quiet habits that build resilience. It's not about extreme athletics. It's about developing a mindset that doesn't collapse when life gets hard. What You'll Learn:Why your brain tells you to quit at 40% — and how to push past that limitHow discomfort, not comfort, is the real training ground for mental strengthWhy failure is data, not defeatHow to build discipline through small daily “mini boot camps”Why accountability starts with brutal honesty about yourselfTimestamped Chapters:[00:00] Haters, criticism, and emotional control[04:00] Introducing David Goggins + the pull-up record shock[08:00] Life as a race: getting to the start line[11:30] Callousing the mind through discomfort[14:00] Living outside the comfort box[16:00] Learning disability and obsessive study discipline[20:00] Public speaking, stuttering, and fear exposure[23:30] Failure as the beginning of growth[27:00] Society's fear of discomfort[30:00] Radical accountability[32:00] Meaning, suffering, and visualization[35:00] The first 100-mile race: confronting death[39:00] Rejection as fuel[41:30] What happens after achievement[44:00] Writing the book and vulnerability[46:00] Discipline audit: where your hours go[48:00] Abuse, forgiveness, and breaking cycles[52:00] Cutting toxic relationships[55:00] The 40% rule explained[58:00] Reflection as survival[01:00:00] Building a personal mental boot camp[01:05:00] Comfort vs. growth: why people stay stuck[01:10:00] Identity, self-image, and reinvention[01:15:00] Discipline as daily practice[01:20:00] Aging, purpose, and long-term mindset[01:25:00] Applying Goggins' philosophy to normal life[01:30:00] Training for life, not races[01:35:00] Legacy and impact[01:40:00] Closing reflections + audiobook discussionAdditional Resources:Can't Hurt Me – David GogginsDavid Goggins Official WebsiteSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Allan Hockett bageled his first two weeks in pest control. His manager pulled him aside and said, "Allan, you suck at this job. Sell five next week or you're fired." He barely scraped by with five. That was 11 years ago. Now he's a 4-time Golden Door winner. In this episode, Hunter sits down with Allan to unpack what changed—from running between doors and studying the top producer to building momentum systems that compound all summer. Allan shares the olfactory trigger he uses to lock in before every shift, why he believes "if you're not drowning daily, you're doing it wrong," and the mid-summer slump that had him in bed for two weeks. He also talks about the text from his wife that changed everything: "If you want to be the best, you have to be different than everyone else."Books mentioned:Can't Hurt Me by David GogginsThe Miracle Morning by Hal ElrodThank you for listening! Adam Skolnick earned his writing chops as a travel and adventure sports journalist for the New York Times, ESPN, the BBC and Lonely Planet. It taught him the vital skills of getting the words out immediately, and writing fast. He was the ghostwriter for David Goggins' memoirs 'Can't Hurt Me' and 'Never Finished'. Also published 'One Breath', about the world of free-diving, which was turned into a Netflix documentary, and 'Forever Swim', about open-water swimming legend Antonio Arguelles. Adam also appears in Rich Roll's fantastic podcast, discussing health and wellbeing. His new novel is 'American Tiger', about Bell Tern who, when on the school bus, sports a tiger roaming around the streets of suburban Los Angeles. It's rooted in the stunning southern Californian landscape and stacked with vivid characters. We discusses his attempts to 'de-sacredise' his space and day, also the different passes he does for each individual character, and what an idea needs to be to get him excited. You can hear about his new cue-card process, how the idea came during a free-diving competition, and how he deals with the fine line between creative burnout and being productive. This episode is sponsored by Ulysses. In Episode 221 of Manufacturing Hub, hosts Vlad Romanov and Dave Griffith sit down without a guest to share valuable real-world lessons on data collection, manufacturing intelligence, and implementing solutions that deliver measurable ROI. This episode wraps up the month's theme on manufacturing intelligence by tying together the insights from previous episodes and putting them into the context of real plant-floor projects.Vlad begins with an in-depth story from his time at Procter & Gamble, where he led an energy monitoring project with the ambitious goal of reducing power consumption by 20 percent. He explains the practical challenges of turning a corporate initiative into an actionable plant-level strategy, from limited baseline data to deciding between standalone meters and integrated monitoring solutions. Vlad shares the lessons learned in balancing cost, data ownership, and scalability, and why a more open solution can sometimes offer greater long-term value than proprietary systems.Dave then takes us into the world of pet food manufacturing, where millions of dollars in raw materials can be lost each year due to inaccurate batching and poor measurement practices. He walks through the process of defining the problem, setting up data collection without overhauling legacy systems, and using that information to identify overages, improve tolerances, and design remediation strategies. The conversation dives into practical engineering decisions, such as when to invest in VFDs for precision dosing, when to redesign process equipment, and how to ensure data insights lead to lasting operational changes. The discussion expands into organizational challenges, including why decision-makers often lack actionable visibility into losses, how to present findings in terms of tangible business impact, and the cultural shift required to actually use the data once it is available. Vlad and Dave also explore examples from discrete manufacturing, where OEE tracking and daily direction setting (DDS) meetings help guide capital allocation, continuous improvement initiatives, and team alignment. They share observations on why some facilities succeed with these systems while others fall back into old habits.Timestamps00:00 Introduction to Episode 221 and monthly theme recap02:00 Vlad's background and approach to modernization projects04:50 Dave's background and focus on data-driven manufacturing solutions06:30 Recap of previous episodes on data collection, historians, and MTP/MCP07:30 Vlad's Procter & Gamble energy monitoring project case study13:40 Addressing power blips, capacitor banks, and ROI considerations19:10 Choosing between proprietary and open monitoring solutions23:40 Dave's pet food manufacturing story and raw material variance29:50 Methods for data collection without disrupting legacy systems34:20 Improving accuracy, process changes, and remediation strategies44:00 Organizational challenges in acting on data insights52:00 OEE, DDS meetings, and capital allocation in discrete manufacturing59:50 Predictions for the future of manufacturing intelligence and AI integrationReferences MentionedIgnition by Inductive Automation – https://inductiveautomation.com/Ignition Community Conference (ICC) – https://icc.inductiveautomation.com/Procter & Gamble – https://us.pg.com/Rockwell Automation – https://www.rockwellautomation.com/Mettler Toledo – https://www.mt.com/Badwater Ultramarathon – https://www.badwater.com/“Can't Hurt Me” by David Goggins – https://davidgoggins.com/book/About the HostsVlad Romanov works with manufacturers to modernize operations by bridging the gap between legacy systems and today's technology. Send us a text if you want to be on the Podcast & explain why!Discover the top books for personal trainers to read like Grit, How to win friends and influence people, How to Become A Successful Personal TRainer and many more.Reading might be the most underrated skill for personal trainers looking to elevate their careers above the 90% who quit within their first year. While most fitness professionals obsess over certification acronyms, the truly successful ones are quietly building their intellectual foundation through consistent, deliberate reading habits. The contrast is striking. Picture a potential client walking into a gym to meet two trainers: one scrolling social media, the other absorbed in a professional development book. Before a word is spoken, one has already established themselves as a dedicated professional. This single habit creates an immediate differentiation that clients intuitively recognize and respect.Starting a reading practice doesn't require massive time commitments. Begin with just 5-10 minutes of distraction-free reading daily, timing yourself to establish a baseline reading speed. Create the right environment by eliminating distractions – put your phone across the room, find a quiet space, and treat reading with the same discipline you bring to physical training. As with fitness, consistency produces remarkable results over time. The reading curriculum for elite trainers spans multiple disciplines. For mindset development, explore works like "Grit" by Angela Duckworth or "Can't Hurt Me" by David Goggins. Business acumen grows through texts like "Go For No" by Richard Fenton, which teaches the counterintuitive approach of pursuing rejection to calibrate value. Technical mastery comes through studying "Starting Strength," "Fat Loss Forever," and "The Science and Practice of Strength Training." For comprehensive development, aim to read 50+ books annually – a simple habit that places you among the intellectual elite in fitness.Transform your reading habit into Want to ask us a question?
