If someone else tries to use them or take a piece of them, we naturally resist. In a similar way, when we surrender our lives to Jesus Christ, He assumes exclusive ownership of our hearts. That explains why the Scriptures remind us to love the Lord our God with the whole of our hearts.​God loathes divided attention, and if He is not the Lord of all we have, then He is not Lord at all. We need to guard our hearts, for that is the throne of our King. He should guide and direct all our affections and desires, rather than leaving us to negotiate terms with our old patterns. Where are we giving God divided loyalty today? Where do we need to surrender fully and give Him exclusive control of our lives? We cannot love God with the whole of our heart until we give Him full control. It's when we fully surrender that He takes over.

The scriptures reminds us that the weapons of our warfare are mighty through God for the pulling down of strongholds. A stronghold is simply a pattern of wrong thinking that has been allowed to settle and fortify itself in your mind.​Loving God with your mind means launching a divine demolition project.
