Have you ever experienced disappointed hope? To put all your trust in someone or something only to find they were untrustworthy—to be fooled and have your hope shattered. Maybe that's why we tend to distrust rather than to trust. Jesus said, “Trust God, trust Me, don't let your hearts be troubled.” But what does it mean to trust in God in the midst of things that are deeply troubling or discouraging? In this message, Stuart Briscoe reveals truth that helps us understand how these words of Jesus can be possible in our own life. He reminds us that our greatest struggle isn't a lack of willpower–it's misplaced affection. When anything becomes more important than God, our lives become vulnerable to compromise and brokenness. But as we grow in our love for Jesus and remember all he has done for us, our desires are reordered, our souls are strengthened, and we experience the protection and freedom found in him.

What if the problem isn't that God hasn't answered your prayers… but that we've misunderstood what prayer is supposed to be?Many of us only pray when we've run out of options. We Google it. We call a friend. We search for answers. We try to fix the problem ourselves—and then, when nothing else works, we finally pray. But Jesus gives us a completely different picture of prayer. In Matthew 7, Jesus says: Ask. Seek. Knock.Prayer isn't about persuading a reluctant God to care about your life. It's about pursuing a loving Father who already knows you, sees you, and cares about what you're facing. In this message, we'll discover how to:• Ask God first—not last• Seek God before seeking solutions• Keep knocking when prayer feels unanswered• Stop praying like a stranger and start approaching God as a son or daughter• Trust God when the answer is “no,” “wait,” or “yes”• Understand how God may be transforming you while you're waitingIf you're struggling with unanswered prayer, anxiety, uncertainty, purpose, relationships, or simply wondering whether God is listening, this message is for you.Sometimes the greatest answer to prayer isn't the circumstance changing.Sometimes it's the person you become while you're waiting.

It's been 8 years since my daughter has talked to me. She is living on the streets after 8 years in the military, and she might be using drugs. Should I pursue her, or leave it in the Lord's hands? I've been living with a man for 20 years, and he lets his daughter dictate the relationship. His daughter doesn't like me, and he puts his family before me.

Send us Fan MailA missionary story that doesn't start with a pulpit, a seminary track, or a flawless “calling” moment can be the one that hits closest to home. I sit down with Grayson, who went back to school as an adult, found his faith sharpened through Christian education, and eventually said yes to serving in China. What follows is a vivid look at missionary life where the government is watching, gathering is complicated, and the gospel still moves from person to person with surprising speed. We talk about house church reality in China, government-sanctioned churches, and what happens when certain topics are treated as dangerous. Grayson shares the joy of seeing students come to Christ, including a week when 120 people were coming through their home for Bible study, and the long, patient conversations it can take for faith to take root. Then he tells a moment I won't forget: a new believer insists baptism should happen in a river, so they ride bicycles for almost two hours to make it happen, read Scripture on the riverbank, and decide “now is the proper time.”The conversation turns honest about the cost too: a student who may have turned them in, police interrupting worship, and IDs being recorded. And yet even that story bends toward redemption. We also compare spiritual hunger abroad with the spiritual numbness that can grow in American comfort, and why recovering awe for God matters more than winning arguments. Grayson even lays out a simple, clear gospel summary he shared with kids at Vacation Bible School. If you want to follow or support Grayson's work, check out globaloutreach.org (account 3086) and OrmanFamilyThailand.com. Psalms 42–72: When Your Soul Thirsts for God (Book 2)

Recap Book Chat

Play Episode Listen Later Jul 14, 2026 41:13

Today we recap Psalms 42-72, Book 2. The sons of Korah wrote Psalms 42-50, do you remember them? Kate sent us back to Numbers 26:11, Korah died and 250 others, but his sons did NOT die! What a story of REDEMPTION! Psalm 42 begins with an amazing visual of a deer panting for water. This reminds us how we should thirst for God. Our thirst should focus us on God, even in times of trial. Testing our thirst is how we test our hearts. Do we thirst for God's Word? Do we thirst to talk about spiritual things? Do we thirst to worship God? This connects to MT 9:13 “I desire mercy not sacrifice.” Jesus was quoting Hosea 6:6, where God was explaining He desires faithfulness, love, and mercy from His people. Following the law to the letter and ignoring its spirit put the Pharisees in the same boat as the ancient Israelites. Psalm 44 is powerful because the people are going through hard times and they have NOT forgotten God. Sometimes, bad things just happen, we must TRUST God whatever life throws at us. Remember Paul and Silas singing in prison? David prays for God to create in him a clean heart in Psalm 51. This is after his sin with Bathsheba and the killing of Uriah. David humbly beseeches God, he doesn't play the blame game or make excuses. He seeks God's mercy.Portrait of a Fool, Psalm 53, mirrors the message in Psalm 14. Remember when God repeats something, He wants us to pay attention. Fools never seek to learn about God and know Him because they say there is no God.Psalms show the ups and downs of living for God. Is it easy? Can you name anything worthwhile that is easy? The wide path is easy but it's not the one that leads to God.Solomon ends Book 2 with Psalm 72. We go from David to Jesus, King of all nations! His kingdom will not end.”May people be blessed in Him, all nations call Him blessed!”May our thirst for God remind us daily of our need for Him. Let's connect to reflect!Blessings to you dear listeners! https://recapbookchat.com/2026/07/07/psalms-42-72-aka-book-2-episode-235/

A Prayer to Trust God in the Unknown

The world is in turmoil, the days feel shorter, and no one truly knows what tomorrow holds. We can make plans to marry, to have children, to build a life... but the future belongs entirely to God. And yet that is not a reason for fear. It is an invitation to faith. Trusting God in the unknown is not passive resignation; it is faith in action, the same kind of faith that kept Jesus obedient to the Father's plan even when He walked toward the cross knowing exactly what lay ahead. Scripture gives us a gallery of people who chose trust over certainty and obedience over self-preservation. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego walked toward the fiery furnace without knowing whether God would deliver them, only knowing that they would not bow. Esther stepped before the king unsummoned, knowing it could cost her life, and said simply: if I perish, I perish. Daniel committed his way to God in a culture that demanded he abandon it. Each of them stepped into the unknown, and each of them found God already there. That is the promise of Psalm 37:5 — commit your way to the Lord, trust in Him, and He will act. The unknown is not empty. God occupies the past, present, and future simultaneously, and His thoughts toward you are good. Today's Bible Verse "Commit your way to the Lord, trust in Him, and he will do this."— Psalm 37:5, NIV Ponder Today The unknown is not something to fear — God is already there. Because He is omnipresent, occupying past, present, and future simultaneously, there is no territory ahead of you that He has not already seen and prepared for. Trusting God in uncertainty is faith in its most active form. Esther, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego did not wait for guarantees before they acted in obedience. They committed their way to God and stepped forward anyway. Jesus lived each day in full obedience, knowing what lay ahead. He did not try to change the plan or avoid the cost. His example shows us what it looks like to trust the Father completely, even when the path is clear and the price is high. God has a way of turning our mess into a message and our tests into testimonies. Nothing you walk through is wasted in His hands. He receives glory through your endurance, and others are blessed by the testimony that comes out of your trust. Live each day as though it could be your last — with faith, not fear. The signs of the times call us not to paralysis but to purposeful, expectant living. Commit your plans to God, look up, and keep walking forward in faith. A Prayer for You Today Dear Righteous God, thank You for being my creator and redeemer. You are omnipresent, occupying the past, present, and future simultaneously, and You are omniscient, knowing exactly what my future holds. So I worship You, because Your thoughts toward me are good and Your plans for me are good as well. Help me have faith as I trust You with the unknown. Help me commit my ways to You and trust in the process, because You will bring it all to pass. There are so many things unfolding around me that I am tempted to lose focus, but I will live by faith and not let the worries of this world distract me from You. I trust You, Lord, and I commit my plans and my future into Your hands. Help me not to lean on my own understanding, but to acknowledge You and seek Your face. In Jesus' name, Amen. While our culture normalizes borrowing, Scripture reveals how debt can quietly steal our freedom, peace, and purpose. Jesus invites us to let go of the temporary things we chase and trust him with our priorities, finances, and future. True freedom is found not in having more, but in following the One who leads us to more life.

Homily for July 12th. 2026 | Marian Apostolate in MedjugorjeFr. Matthew Lamoureux's homily beautifully echoes two of the greatest spiritual messages of our time: trust in Divine Mercy and Our Lady's call in Medjugorje to conversion through prayer and perseverance. The Gospel reminds us that God is the Sower, but the condition of the soil determines how fruitful His Word becomes. Divine Mercy teaches us that God never gives up on a soul. Even when someone seems far from Him; a child, spouse, friend, priest, or even ourselves, Jesus continues to sow His grace. God's mercy is patient. He waits. He pursues. He never stops calling a soul back to Himself. This is why Fr. Matthew tells us not to try to "fix" people. Our role is to become fertile soil through prayer, sacrifice, Confession, the Eucharist, and acts of charity. Our prayers become the soil in which God's mercy can take root in the lives of those we love.Readings for July 12th.2026: https://bible.usccb.org/bible/readings/071226.cfm ★ Support this podcast ★

From there, the conversation moves into Egypt, where Moses stands before Pharaoh in what becomes a direct confrontation between the God of Israel and the false authority of Pharaoh.T.S. and Joshua unpack the meaning of the ten plagues, the hardening of Pharaoh's heart, and why God used this confrontation to reveal His glory, power, and authority. They also address difficult theological questions about suffering, divine justice, God's authority over life and death, and why believers must recognize that God's ways are higher than man's ways. The second half of the episode focuses on Israel's wilderness journey. T.S. and Joshua discuss the Red Sea, manna, spiritual amnesia, Israel's repeated grumbling, and the importance of building memorials of remembrance when God proves Himself faithful. They connect Israel's wilderness testing to the believer's own walk of faith, showing how trials can produce endurance, spiritual maturity, and deeper trust in Christ. This episode is a strong reminder that God never loses, His authority is absolute, and His faithfulness remains even when His people struggle to trust Him.Key Topics CoveredMoses and the burning bushMoses' reluctance and God's callGod versus PharaohThe ten plagues of EgyptThe hardening of Pharaoh's heartGod's authority over life and deathWhy God allows suffering and hardshipIsrael crossing the Red SeaThe wilderness journeyManna, grumbling, and spiritual amnesiaJoshua and Caleb's faithThe danger of forgetting God's faithfulnessMemorials of remembranceTrials, endurance, and spiritual maturityEmbracing the cross instead of pursuing comfortGuest InformationJoshua Spatha is the author of Mere Spirituality and can be found at mperspective.org. A tribute to my Mother, Geneva Sherman SizemoreThis episode is unlike any other episode of Real Talk With Reginald D.My mother had been battling serious health issues for the past three months. During that time, she prepared her own obituary and funeral program and personally asked me to deliver her eulogy. After the passing of my beloved mother, Geneva Sherman Sizemore, I had the honor of sharing her life story and legacy at her funeral on June 27, 2026—just one week before what would have been her 75th birthday. What began as a tribute to one extraordinary woman became a powerful motivational and inspirational message that moved everyone in attendance and inspired countless people to reflect on their own lives, faith, purpose, and legacy.Rather than simply mourning her passing, I chose to celebrate her life defined by faith, perseverance, courage, resilience, sacrifice, servant leadership, motherhood, and unwavering trust in God.Raised as a single mother of two, my mother refused to allow hardship, rejection, financial struggles, anxiety, or disappointment to define her future. She worked multiple jobs, graduated from college with honors, became a gifted church musician, mentored countless single mothers, purchased her first home through unwavering faith after being denied by her own bank, and later reunited with the love of her life in a beautiful story of redemption and restoration.Throughout this emotional and deeply motivational speech, I share timeless life lessons my mother taught me, including:Know your worth and never allow anyone to devalue you.Keep your faith during life's darkest moments.Don't allow rejection to define your future.Choose courage over fear.Build your legacy through service to others.Never stop believing God has a greater plan.Raise your children with love, communication, and integrity.Trust God even when you cannot see the outcome.Keep moving forward through hardship.Live a life that leaves an eternal impact. This is more than a eulogy, this episode is an inspiring motivational and inspirational story about overcoming adversity, choosing faith over fear, discovering purpose through pain, and building a legacy that lives far beyond this life. A tribute not only to one remarkable mother—but to every parent, caregiver, mentor, and person striving to leave the world better than they found it.Whether you're grieving the loss of a loved one, raising children, rebuilding after hardship, or searching for hope, I would like to remind you that a life lived with faith, love, and purpose is never forgotten and that t true success isn't measured by what you own—it's measured by the lives you touch. My mother's life demonstrates that you don't need fame, wealth, or status to leave an extraordinary legacy. Through faith, perseverance, sacrifice, service, and unconditional love, she impacted generations and continues to inspire people even after her passing. What You Will Gain:Powerful motivational and inspirational life lessons about overcoming hardship, trusting God during difficult seasons, knowing your worth, and building a meaningful legacy through faith and perseverance.Self-improvement and educational principles that strengthen resilience, family relationships, leadership, communication, personal growth, and the courage to keep moving forward despite life's challenges.Faith and motivation insights that encourage listeners to trust God's timing, live with purpose, inspire future generations, and understand that a life of service leaves an eternal impact.Press play now to experience my heartfelt motivational and inspirational tribute and discover timeless lessons about faith, resilience, purpose, and the kind of legacy every person has the opportunity to leave behind.Send us Fan MailSupport the showFor daily motivation and inspiration, subscribe and follow Real Talk With Reginald D on social media:Instagram: realtalkwithreginaldd   TikTok: @realtalkregd  Youtube: @realtalkwithreginald  Website:  https://www.realtalkwithreginaldd.com Real Talk With Reginald D  -  MerchandiseReal Talk With Reginald D is a faith-based globally ranked inspirational and motivational podcast designed to motivate, empower & transform lives through powerful motivational speeches, authentic conversations, and real-life inspirational stories. In this 10 Commandments series, we explored how trusting in God's wisdom leads to true life and flourishing, while building lives on our own terms often leads to pain. So in this hyperlink episode, we'll listen to three clips that explore this theme further. First, Jon and Tim break down the literary structure of the stories surrounding the 10 Commandments, which highlight humanity's reluctance to wait on God's commands. Second, Jon, Tim, and former BibleProject scholar Carissa Quinn look at how the golden calf story in Exodus 32 relates to the 10 Commandments. And finally, Jon, Tim, and Carissa discuss how all of the Bible's poems, narratives, laws, and letters are wisdom for us.
