Proverbs 11:24 The world of the generous gets LARGER and LARGER; while the world of the stingy gets smaller and smaller. Myth #1: The CHURCH wants my MONEY. Myth #2: The church shouldn't TALK about MONEY. Biblical Money Stats: 2/3 parables dealt with handling money. 1 of 10 verses in the Gospels deal directly with money. 2300 verses in the Bible mention your finances! 5 times as many as prayer and faith. “If a person gets his attitude toward MONEY straight, it will help straighten out almost every other area in his life.”—Billy Graham Myth #3: Tithing is an OLD TESTAMENT law that is no longer APPLICABLE. TITHE—MA'ASER—a tenth TITHING: The principle of RETURNING to God the FIRST 10% of your income. Malachi 3:8-10 “Will a mere mortal rob God? Yet you rob me. “But you ask, ‘How are we robbing you?' “In tithes and offerings. You are under a curse—your whole nation—because you are robbing me. Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it. Matthew 23:23 “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices—mint, dill and cumin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law—justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former. I Corinthians 16:2 On the first day of every week, each one of you should set aside a sum of money in keeping with your income, saving it up, so that when I come no collections will have to be made. WHY I TITHE 1. Tithing puts God FIRST in my life. Deuteronomy 14:23 The purpose of tithing is to teach you to always put God first in your lives. It takes FAITH to put God FIRST in your finances. 2. Tithing keeps me involved in the VISION of the CHURCH. I Chronicles 29:3 Moreover, because I have set my affection on the house of my God, I have given to the house of my God, over and above all that I have prepared for the holy house, my own special treasure of gold and silver: Matthew 6:21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. When I tithe, I move from a spectator to a PARTICIPATOR in what God is doing through His CHURCH. Take a 90 DAY tithing CHALLENGE Pick a PERCENTAGE and make it AUTOMATIC. 3. Tithing gives me ACCESS to supernatural BLESSING. Malachi 3:10 Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse…and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it. Deuteronomy 15:10 Give freely and spontaneously. Don't have a stingy heart. The way you handle matters like this triggers God, your God's, blessing in everything you do, all your work and ventures. When God is put FIRST, the rest is BLESSED! 2 Corinthians 9:6-7 Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 2 Corinthians 9:11 You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/coastalchurch/message

I don't want to say it's normal and we should be okay with it, but I will say it's normal and it's okay. He loves you and me when we fail. God can handle our doubtful prayers. Bible Reading: Colossians 1:9-14Silas watched as his little brother struggled to tie his shoes. When Silas tried to help him, Daniel scowled and pulled away. Silas sighed and waited patiently for the little boy to give up. Finally, Daniel allowed Silas to help him, and the two of them headed for the park. "Dad, Daniel never wants me to help him tie his shoes," Silas said that evening, "but he can't do it alone. How long will it be till he can tie them by himself?"Dad smiled. "It won't be long. He just needs a little more time. I remember when you were learning new things. You were a lot like Daniel. You would hardly ever let me help you. If I tried, you'd get angry and say, 'No! By myself, Daddy!' And you'd push at my hands.""I would?" Silas grinned. "You're sure you're not mixing me up with somebody else?"Dad laughed. "It was you all right. You were very independent. Maybe I should thank you for that, because you taught me something.""Really?" Silas was surprised. "What did I teach you?""As I watched you, I saw myself. I was a new Christian at that time, and I was trying to live the Christian life all by myself. I hardly ever read my Bible or spent time in prayer. I didn't even go to church very often. I wasn't seeking help from God or from my Christian brothers and sisters. As a result, I was struggling with my temper and other bad habits.""But you knew you were doing bad stuff?" asked Silas. Dad nodded. "And I struggled because of it. Then as I watched you resist my help, I suddenly realized I was resisting the Lord's help. In my spiritual life, I was saying, 'I don't need any help.' It's a lesson I'll never forget." Dad smiled at Silas. "God is patient with us, so be patient with Daniel, but don't be like him. Accept the help God offers through His Word and through Christian brothers and sisters. And remember that you have God's Holy Spirit inside you who helps you turn away from sin and is shaping you to be more like Jesus.""Okay," said Silas. "I'll remember that whenever Daniel doesn't let me tie his shoes!" -Deborah S. MarettHow About You?Are you finding it hard to live the Christian life? Are you struggling with fears? Laziness? #0023-How To Set A Weight-Loss Goal & Stick To It! Why set a weight-loss goal? 1.  Become the next version of yourself 2.  Expand your thinking 3.  Challenge your beliefs Most of us set goals to lose pounds.  And that's great.   But what if the reason we set a goal was to become the person who loses the weight?   What if we challenged our beliefs and expanded how we are thinking about ourselves and became that person? The pounds would be a bonus, right?!? If we and our weight are our circumstance, we get to CHOOSE how we think and feel about ourself and what the scale says we weigh.   What we are thinking about ourselves is what creates how we feel about ourself and what we do to create the result we want. Listen in to learn about the 2 types of goals we can set for ourselves and how to become future-focused so we can stick to them! Do you ever struggle with the deep pain we feel in our lives and how to reconcile that with God's loving character? I am guessing the answer for all of us is a resounding yes—I think we've all been there at some point or another.    Alexandra Hoover is on Pardon the Mess today to help us set up a framework of seeing God both in the hard places and the highlights of our lives. She shares her own Ebenezer-stone moments and walks us through a process of finding our “starting stone” as a beginning place for remembering God's faithfulness.    This is such an important topic for each of us as believers who will inevitably face pain on this side of heaven, but it's equally important for our kids. If we can begin to lay these foundational stones of God's faithfulness in their lives, it will help them remember his goodness in the storms they will face in the future. Ep. 074 - It was a terrifying day for everyone in the country of Ukraine. The people of Ukraine woke up very early to radio stations and TV channels announcing that Russia had invaded their beloved homeland. Our sister woke up to sounds of bombing not far from her house. It was (and is) a literal nightmare. We have the honor of hearing from our sister, Ellissa Petrenko, for her very first interview about that terrifying day (and the days that followed). Listen as she shares the five day journey of trying to escape the country, all while being nine months pregnant. This is also a great reminder to continue praying for all the people of Ukraine. Pray first and foremost that they would come to know Jesus  in a personal way. Follow Ellissa Petrenko on Instagram Support the Petrenko Family (sending them direct support through Venmo is great!)
