A Prayer to Help Us Through the End of Daylight Saving

When the end of Daylight Savings Time rolls around, many of us sigh, “Here we go again!” As today's prayer and devotional remind us, even though adjusting the clock by an hour may seem simple, it often disrupts our rhythm, leaving us feeling tired, confused, and slightly off-balance. Some of us might even show up late (or early!) to work, church, or appointments. In this practical and faith-filled reflection, Lynette Kittle reminds us that even the passage of time is under God’s control. Whether we’re falling back or springing forward, God’s timing is always perfect. He invites us to approach every day — and every hour — with gratitude, patience, and faith. By trusting God to guide us through life’s constant changes, we can turn this minor seasonal annoyance into an opportunity for spiritual growth. Each hour we’re given is a gift, a reminder that our lives are held in His hands. Instead of grumbling through the adjustment, we can use this moment to rest in His wisdom and give thanks for the time He’s entrusted to us. Today's Bible Reading:“For through wisdom your days will be many, and years will be added to your life.” – Proverbs 9:11 Takeaway Truths Every hour is a gift from God — His timing is always perfect. We can trust God to guide us through changes and disruptions. Gratitude and patience help us embrace life’s rhythm with faith and peace.

Have you ever felt your ministry energy start to fade a few months into the season? That sense of slowing down, coasting, or even drifting can happen to the best of us — but it doesn't have to keep you stuck. In this episode, Eric shares some thought around why drift happens — the human, spiritual, and cultural forces that quietly pull us off course — and how we can return to the fire of mission. Show Notes / Key Points: Naming the Drift Feeling flat or coasting in ministry is normal. Drift happens when we stop intentionally moving toward mission. Key insight: to drift, we simply need to do… nothing. Scripture: Philippians 3:13-14 NRSV Why Drift Happens Human side: fatigue, busyness, and familiarity. Rest and relational honesty help restore energy. (Matthew 11:28-30) Spiritual side: losing connection to Jesus and the Holy Spirit. Abiding in Him is the source of fruitfulness. (John 15:4-5, Romans 8:26) Cultural side: pressure for constant growth and visible success. Trust God's rhythms of pruning and seasons. (Ecclesiastes 3:1-2, 2 Corinthians 4:16-18) Returning to the Fire of Mission Return to relationship: spend time with Jesus, remember your identity as a beloved child of God. (1 John 4:19, Ephesians 2:10) Reconnect with the Holy Spirit: pray for guidance, boldness, and renewed vision. (Acts 1:8, Galatians 5:16) Remember your why and who: focus on the people God has placed in your life and ministry. (Matthew 28:19-20, 1 Peter 3:15) Reflect on your witness: love is the first way people encounter the Gospel. Re-engage in community: ministry flourishes in shared life, prayer, and encouragement. (Hebrews 10:24-25, 1 Thessalonians 5:11) Closing Encouragement The Spirit who called you is still with you. You can fan the flame of your God-given gift for mission. (2 Timothy 1:6-7) Proclaim Team Resources: In-person trainings, workshops, and leadership summits to help leaders refocus on mission. Examples: Accompaniment Masterclass, Rescue Project support, Alpha parish sessions. Proclaim is a movement of the Archdiocese of Vancouver inspiring disciples to proclaim Jesus in their homes and communities. Fear is something every one of us faces — it’s part of being human. But for the believer, fear doesn’t have to control us. In this heartfelt daily prayer and devotional, Keneesha Saunders-Liddie reminds us that faith isn’t the absence of fear — it’s the courage to move forward in spite of it. When Keneesha found herself stranded at just 13 years old, she experienced firsthand what it meant to trust God in a moment of real danger. That night, she learned that faith doesn’t always remove fear, but it gives us the strength to act even when we’re trembling. As followers of Christ, we are called to “do it scared” — to take the next step, obey His call, and trust that the Lord who is for us will lead us safely to where we need to be. The truth of Psalm 118:6 reminds us that no person, opinion, or circumstance can stand against God’s plan for our lives. He is with us, and He is for us — and that changes everything. Today's Bible Reading:“The Lord is for me, so I will have no fear. What can mere people do to me?” – Psalm 118:6, NLT

What if your next step of faith isn't about more belief but more risk? This week, Jim takes us deeper into the tension between our flesh and the Spirit and what it really means to live free. It's not about trying harder, being better, or obeying a list of rules. It's about being led by the Spirit and choosing to walk in step with Him even when everything in you screams not to. As Flatirons moves toward a bold, Spirit-led future, this message invites you to go beyond belief and into obedient action. Faith isn't a feeling. It's a decision to trust and give when it costs something. Through Galatians 5, we're reminded: freedom comes from Jesus, but living free means stepping into the fight between Spirit and flesh every single day. The Spirit leads us into love, joy, generosity, and radical obedience not just for us, but for the mission Jesus gave us: to set others free. As Flatirons moves toward launching new campuses, fighting human trafficking, and equipping disciples across Colorado, Jim asks one question: Will you listen to the Spirit and walk?

When crisis comes into your life, who do you turn to? Who do you trust? The question that God puts before His people again and again is, "Are you going to trust Me?" Where you going to put your hope and your trust when hardship comes? Psalm 4:35 says, "Some trust in horses, some trust in chariots, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God." What does this mean? It's very easy for us to talk about trust in the abstract. Trust God. Put your confidence in God. But when crisis comes, whether it's small or big, our first instinct is usually to try to fix it on our own—in other words, "What can I do to fix this on my own?"That's the crisis that emerges here in chapters 7-9 of the book of Isaiah. >>Watch on YouTubeDr. Mark Gignilliat is professor of divinity at Beeson Divinity School, where he teaches courses in Old Testament and Hebrew. We're living at a time of tremendous INSTABILITY and UNCERTAINTY. And, when facing the unknown, we tend to respond with fear and with faith. Fear says that we're not sure of the outcome, but we have a feeling it's going to be bad. Faith says that we're not sure of the outcome, but that we know God is with us and for us and will take care of us. So we (simply) take another step. Another breath. In this message, Max Vanderpool spells out why God's people have ALWAYS had a hard time trusting God - and why, despite how we might feel internally - God CAN be trusted.

In this first message of the Be Wise series, Pastor Jim explores why wisdom is not only helpful but commanded by God. Drawing from Proverbs 3 and 9, Jim teaches that wisdom begins with fearing the Lord and trusting in Him rather than leaning on our own understanding. He illustrates how wisdom is more than just intelligence or kindness—it is truth applied to the complexities of real life. Jim challenges listeners to consider what shapes their identity and how that identity leads to either foolishness or a life marked by peace, humility, and eternal perspective. As he unpacks the fruit of wisdom, he points to Jesus as the ultimate source and model, the one we must cling to if we want to walk wisely in this world. The invitation is clear: root your life in the gospel and drink deeply from the spring of Christ, the one thing that makes the rest of life possible.

4 Principles for Obedience, Change, and Spiritual Growth

Facing a moment when you realize you're "flying the wrong direction"? This sermon from Dr. Roger Patterson, based on the story of Moses in Exodus 4, offers four essential principles for adjusting your course and moving forward in obedience to God. Dr. Patterson emphasizes that spiritual transformation begins with a change in direction, drawing a parallel with the story of "Wrong Way" Corrigan and the profound journey of Moses. Learn how to overcome the fears and private disobedience that hold you back so you can embrace God's plan for your life. In this message, you'll discover: Key Principles for Adjusting Course: 1. Be truthful with yourself and with others: Moses wasn't completely honest about his return to Egypt, driven by fear of his father-in-law and fear for his life. God's specific word to Moses—that the men seeking his life were dead—served as a reinforcement and encouragement against his fear. The practical question for us is: What fear is holding you back, and what one step will you take in spite of it? 2. When you take action, resolve the unresolved: You cannot move forward in public obedience while remaining in private disobedience. Just as Moses had neglected the covenant command of circumcision for his son, God will deal with a leader's unfinished obedience. This principle calls for repentance: owning your failures and agreeing with God, saying, "You are right, I am wrong". 3. Trust God to bring you the right people for the journey: God brought leaders like Aaron (spokesman, wingman) and others to provide capacity, strength, and a succession plan for Moses. The work God calls you to is far too great to do alone. Proverbs 24:6 states, "in the abundance of counselors there is victory". 4. Your aim is to influence others and show God's faithfulness: When you adjust your course and obey, others will see the faithfulness of God and join you. Your private faith is turned into a public witness. Dr. Patterson illustrates this with the life of Nelson Mandela, whose internal reorientation from anger to grace and revenge to reconciliation ultimately led to him influencing a nation. Action Points (The Four A's): Identify the direction of God's calling. Address the area he's asking you to surrender (Repent). Accept the help he's sending you. Act—take your first step today. Scripture Reference: Exodus 4:18-31

Healing from church hurt is a journey worth embarking on. In the realm of spiritual communities, few topics are as sensitive or impactful as church hurt. This phenomenon affects individuals across various denominations and can profoundly influence one's faith journey. Understanding and healing from church hurt is essential for maintaining and rebuilding a healthy relationship with Jesus. Understanding Church Hurt Church hurt stems from negative experiences within religious settings, such as emotional turmoil, spiritual abuse, or feeling ostracized. It does not discriminate among denominations; it can happen anywhere and to anyone. Recognizing this is crucial to navigating the complicated emotions involved and finding ways to heal. Navigating the Path to Healing Healing from church hurt often involves acknowledging the pain and finding supportive environments to express it. Talking with trusted individuals who understand or have experienced similar struggles can be invaluable. Recovery is not about finding an immediate solution but about gradually rebuilding trust and faith. Utilizing Resources for Support Tools and resources can offer guidance in recognizing and addressing hurt resulting from others in the church community. Such resources help individuals identify red flags and articulate their feelings. Seeking external perspectives can shed light on situations and clarify if certain behaviors are problematic or dismissive in religious contexts. Embracing Hope and Finding New Community While healing from the hurt of individuals within church organizations, it is vital not to generalize all religious communities based on one experience. Positive, nurturing faith communities do exist, and taking the time to find them can offer renewed faith and fellowship. Remember, it's about finding a place that reinforces spiritual well-being and growth.   Read the full show notes and access all links.  Website for Mary DeMuth Additional resources you will find helpful: Mary DeMuth - You Need to Meet These Women of the Bible (They Are Just Like Us) - Episode 398 Rebecca George - Ditch the prosperity gospel. What dream have you had that you feel is too big to pursue? One of my big dreams has always been to go to England, the country my maternal grandmother was from. But I don't like to fly, I was worried I couldn't do that much walking, didn't know how to figure out all of the planes, trains, underground, taxis and Uber logistics, etc. etc. I decided not to give into those fears, however, when my husband, John, offered to take me on the trip of a lifetime to England and Scotland to celebrate my 60th birthday and our 40th wedding anniversary. Having recently returned from that trip I can honestly say it was worth every bit of planning, every mile flown and every step taken to make the dream a reality. There is a story in the Bible where God had a wonderful plan devised for His people, a land flowing with milk and honey, but 10 men prevented that dream from happening because they were too afraid. “He weakened my strength in the way.” – Psalm   Life's Waves and God's Sovereignty Referencing Psalm 42:7, “Deep calls unto deep,” he explains that it portrays wave after wave of life's challenges, not mystical depths. Sometimes, trouble comes in relentless succession — one wave after another — yet God uses even pain, sickness, and discomfort to shape us. We often blame the devil, but sometimes it's the Lord doing deep work in us. He reminds the congregation that when we gave our lives to Christ, we surrendered the right to run our own lives. “We said, ‘You get to call the shots.' ”   Psalm 84 – Dwelling in God's Presence The message centers on Psalm 84, portraying the believer's longing for God's house and presence amid a fallen world. “How lovely is Your tabernacle, O Lord of hosts.” Believers must live in the world but not of it, finding their refuge not in wealth, approval, or comfort — but in God's presence. Even the sparrow finds a home near His altar — showing that everyone, humble or lowly, is welcome in His presence. The pastor urges believers to maintain a “secret place” — a daily sanctuary of prayer and fellowship with God. We need His manifest presence, not just His omnipresence.   Strength in the Pilgrimage Psalm 84:5 – “Blessed is the man whose strength is in You, whose heart is set on pilgrimage.” True strength comes from the Lord, not self. The Christian life is a pilgrimage, requiring perseverance and endurance — “a journey, not a sprint.” Like Noah, Abraham, and Jesus, we must walk faithfully even when the outcome seems far away. “Decide yesterday that you're not going to quit today.”   The Valley of Baka – Digging Wells Psalm 84:6 describes the Valley of Baka, a place of weeping, decay, and death. Spiritually, it represents the world's brokenness. Believers are called to dig wells — to bring life, truth, and hope where there is despair. Each Christian has a circle of influence (family, workplace, community) where God expects them to “dig wells” for others. He contrasts Absalom, who built a monument to himself, with Jacob, who dug a well. “The statue is gone; the well still flows.” The challenge: be an effective well-digger whose influence blesses others long after you're gone.   From Strength to Strength Psalm 84:7 – “They go from strength to strength; each one appears before God in Zion.” This phrase means believers become an army within themselves because God dwells in them. Strength increases through intimacy with God, not worldly alliance. Avoid letting worldly media and negativity shape your mind — renew your thoughts in God's Word. Illustrations include: A soldier in WWII saved by a spider's web God used for protection. A survivor of the Titanic quoting Psalm 91 as God delivered him. These show that God's care extends to the smallest details for those who trust Him.   Staying Coupled with the Lord Psalm 84:11 – “No good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly.” The pastor explains that “uprightly” in Hebrew (tāmîm) means “to stay coupled” — like train cars joined together. We don't have to be perfect; we just have to stay connected to God. Whether rusty or shiny, the only train cars that move are the ones still coupled. “If you'll stay coupled with Me, I won't withhold any good thing from you.”   The Final Call – Dig Wells, Stay Coupled, Trust God Believers are called to: Remain coupled to God through every trial. Commit to the pilgrimage — no turning back. Dig wells in dry, dying places. Trust God through both good and hard seasons. “Once you dig a well in Christ, it will always have water in it.” The sermon closes with an altar call to: Renew one's commitment to Christ's work, Receive strength to influence others, and Begin or restore a relationship with Jesus. Key Theme: God is calling His people to intimacy, endurance, and influence — to stay coupled, keep digging wells, and bring living water into a dying world.

I'm so excited for you to meet my friend Jenny Marrs in this episode, she is the real deal: generous, grounded, and hilariously honest about what it's like to parent a big, beautiful, complicated family. Jenny's new book, Trust God, Love People (out October 7 — grab it wherever you buy books), is a collection of short, bite-sized stories of God's faithfulness written especially for busy parents who don't have time to read a memoir cover-to-cover. We talk adoption, spiritual warfare, and the he middle of the mess, yes, including Jenny's delightful obsession with “heart rocks” (you'll want to start collecting them on your next walk). If you're in a waiting season — adoption, infertility, loss, or any long “not yet” — Jenny's honesty about how waiting reshaped her faith will land like a warm hand on your shoulder. She shares the ways her family marks God's faithfulness (photos, rocks, kitchen bowls full of memory) and how those markers bring perspective when grief or chaos arrives. We also get real about life in the public eye: filming a family show, the hard comments online, and protecting kids while being authentic. Jenny's practical tiny tweaks are gold for busy moms: bring meals, send a quick “thinking of you” text, call people by name, and keep a giant handwritten calendar where everyone can see it — simple, doable, meaningful. Before we go, Jenny answers rapid-fire (including what she's clinging to in hard times — a New Year's trip countdown on her airline app — and one filming secret: outfit changes for days). Tiny tweak reminder from us both this week: if someone comes to mind, bring them a meal or send a quick note, loving people well is usually small, and it matters more than we know.
