As Season 11's "Let's Be Remarkable Tour" comes to a close, we can't move forward in becoming remarkable humans without talking about our picture of God and how we might limit receiving His love in our lives. Many of us equate receiving God's love with earning God's love through our good works or good behavior. To help us reframe, redraw, and reauthor our picture of God, we have Lacy Finn Borgo, author, and spiritual director, to guide us. In her new books, "All Will Be Well: Learning to Trust God," and "Faith Like a Child: Embracing Our Lives as Children of God," Lacy invites us to consider our picture of God in stunningly beautiful ways. Her words and wisdom invite each of us to take a pause in order to get that picture of God right. When we do, we live our lives from an authentic space that unleashes amazing freedom in Christ. Episode 185-Don't Stress, Trust God When everything is falling apart, what is the first thing we do? We try to fix it and if we can't fix it, we worry about it. Then, worry leads to stress. When I am stressed, I am not trusting in God. I am trusting myself to fix what I am stressing about. Jesus said, “Which one of you by worrying could add anything to your life?” (Matthew 6:27 TPT). We know worry doesn't help. It leads to stress, which will harm us if we don't get it under control. In this episode, I give you five steps from stress to trusting God. We'll also talk about what stress does to the body and how we can change our lives by getting rid of it. Overcomers Link: https://TeresaShieldsParker.com/overcomers/

As the world changes; the usefulness of a strict academic educational approach is fading, we must balance it with the development of relevant life skills. The right combination of these, along with ongoing spiritual discipleship leads to the outcomes that matter most during uncertain times. Regardless of your homeschooling experience or lack of it; this is a thought-provoking and timely discussion. Matthew 23:27 - 28 “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of the bones of the dead and everything unclean. In the same way, on the outside you appear to people as righteous but on the inside you are full of hypocrisy and wickedness.” Luke 6:43 - 45 “A good tree can't produce bad fruit, and a bad tree can't produce good fruit. A tree is identified by its fruit. Figs are never gathered from thornbushes, and grapes are not picked from bramble bushes. A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart. What you say flows from what is in your heart.” Only the good God can make you a good tree. Only the good God can produce good fruit out of your life. John 15:8 “When you produce much fruit, you are my true disciples. This brings great glory to my Father.” Galatians 5:22 - 23 But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. The good God has provided good things for you to store in a good heart. How do I become confident in my identity? Stop managing your image. Trust God with your identity. Let God transform you from the inside out.
Bible Reading: Acts 9:10-15, 36-39"Grandpa, I hate my name," Edna told her grandfather one day."Well now, I think Edna is a pretty name," said Grandpa. "Your mom named you after your great-grandmother, whom she dearly loved.""But I have to go to school with kids who have names like Braxton and Jacob. I wish I had a name that wasn't so old-fashioned!""A lot of babies are being given old-fashioned names these days," Grandpa told her. "Take the name Jacob, for instance. That's a popular name now, but it's a very old one. Remember Jacob in the Bible?"Edna sighed. "Yes, but I still wish I had a different name. I think I'll change it someday. After all, the Bible says a good name should be chosen rather than riches."Grandpa smiled. "Oh, honey, that verse isn't talking about changing your name! It's talking about what people think of you when they hear your name and think of your character. Like I said, the name Edna reminds your mom of one of the sweetest people she ever knew. And when people who know you hear your name, I'm sure they think of what you're like as a person. So…are you friendly and kind? Are you helpful? Or are you selfish and bitter? Those are the kinds of things people think of." Edna just shrugged. "Tell me," said Grandpa, "what do you think of when you hear the name Braxton? Or the name Jacob?""When I hear Braxton, I think of a boy who picks on other kids and calls them names!" Edna answered with a hint of anger. "When I hear the name Jacob, I think of a kid who's really smart. He helps me if I get stuck with a math problem.""Exactly!" Grandpa nodded. "You didn't mention either one as a boy with an up-to-date name, did you? It was their personalities and the way they treat you that you described. So trust God to help you live in such a way that when people hear the name Edna, they think good thoughts. Since you know Jesus, you have His love in your heart, and you can share it with others in how you treat them. Then you'll have a good name even if it's one you might not have chosen for yourself."Edna nodded thoughtfully. "When people hear my name, I want them to think of Jesus." -Sara L. NelsonHow About You?What do people think of when they hear your name? Today's Bible reading gives two examples of very different reactions to a name. The name Saul brought thoughts of evil deeds, while the name Dorcas brought thoughts of good ones. Does your name give people good thoughts or bad thoughts? Trust God to help you live your life so that the mention of your name will make people think of someone who shows others the love of Jesus.Today's Key Verse:A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches. (NKJV) (Proverbs 22:1)Today's Key Thought:You can have a good name

The Christian Gentleman w/Roy Knight Ep301 - Do You Trust God?
In most sports, there's some sort of play-off or tournament to determine the overall champion. Even if you're not a sports fan, it's hard to ignore the hard work and dedication that it takes to become the champions. Winning in life takes a lot of hard work and dedication as well. An encouragement found in the Bible tells us to “forget what is behind and press on toward the goal that's ahead”. When we keep our eyes on the prize, the Holy Spirit will direct our steps. If you're currently feeling defeated- but you're hearing this message right now, the race is far from over. Trust God and move forward.
Satan tries to deceive us into believing we can only trust ourselves. But God promises we can trust Him fully. John 10:10 says, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” Put your trust in God and He will meet you where you are. April 16, 2023 - Trust God, Do Good by Pastor Wade Williams
Prayer to trust GOD
The foundation of Christian discipleship is obedience, to do whatever Jesus tells us to do. It's a tough, but powerful lesson we learn as we study scripture today. We aren't called to do amazing things, but God will do extraordinary things through us because of our obedience. Jesus steps in when it seems like nothing else can help, starts with what we have to offer, and looks for our willingness to obey, even in the absurd. He adds extra to our ordinary and gives blessings that do more than just meet today's needs. His blessings are long lasting. Jesus promises the best is never yet experienced until he shows up, and we can depend on his promises. Are you trusting Jesus and obeying him even in the absurd or tough times? Are you looking to his power and not your own? Are you trusting in him as Lord? As always, we'd love to connect with you, answer any questions you've got, and take time to pray with you today. You can always take the next step here – burnthickory.com/next.

We conclude today our series based on Dr. Hansen's book Three Vital Beliefs, the three core beliefs that got Adolf and Naomi through a terrible tragedy and beliefs that can sustain us through our challenging times. Biblical Truth: “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters” – Colossians 3:23 (NIV)“So, whatever you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God” – 1 Corinthians 10:31 (NIV)Leadership Truth:“The ultimate goal is not that we would do good things for others. It's not even to start churches or share our faith. The ultimate aim of our lives is to bring glory to God” (Life on Mission, p. 27) 5 Ways to Execute the Vision:1. TRUST GOD and the PROCESS a. God is the creator and articulate of the vision.2. Settle the level of your OWN CONVICTIONS first a. The Vision - If you don't support it, you won't be able to execute it!3. DISCUSS/DEBATE PRIVATELY, but HONOR and SUPPORT PUBLICALLY a. When honor is practice, it becomes a part of the culture.4. Assume the BEST even when you are tempted to think the WORSE a. We're all on the same team and we all want the same thing.5. Commit to being a KEEPER OF UNITY (It's BIBLICAL) a. “Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited.” – Romans 12:16 Biblical Truth:“As a prisoner of the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.” Ephesians 4:1-3 (NIV) The Role of the Leader: How to get others to connect to the vision? It's all about TRUST!1. Practical trust in GOD (He knows more that we do)2. Principal trust in AUTHORITY (It's how we maintain unity and eliminate division)3. Personal trust in the LEADER (God called the leader, so we trust God's discussion) Take-A-Way: What does this mean for you…the leader?1. Be a CRITICAL THINKER, not just a TASK-DRIVEN DOER (Move from listening & thinking to doing, creating, and innovating)2. Be PROACTIVE, not just REACTIVE (It's the difference between being an intentional leader vs a reactionary leader)3. Be CLEAR, not just CLEVER (Just because it sounds good to you, doesn't mean it make sense to others)
Broadcasts – Christian Working Woman
(Presented by Lisa Bishop) It's easy to try to get our identity from all the wrong places rather than from the very of truth of God. Have you ever been in a season of waiting? Maybe you are in a time of waiting right now. Are you waiting to hear back on a job interview, a promotion, a letter of acceptance to school. Maybe you are waiting on a phone call from a long-lost friend or estranged family member, a call from the doctor for a diagnosis. Waiting is hard. I was having dinner with a friend the other night and she was lamenting about prayers that are seeming to go unanswered. We talked about how difficult and often uncomfortable it can be when we experience what feels like long delays as we seek God for help, or answers to a problem we are facing. We confided to one another the pain and frustration we can feel in the waiting. Can you relate? Have your prayers ever sounded like a broken record as you wonder why God was waiting so long to answer? Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us what wisdom looks like in the waiting. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” Trust God not your own understanding. If we're honest, disheartenment can take up residence in us when we rely on our limited knowledge and vision of a situation. We can be tempted to trust in what we know and forget that we serve an all-knowing, trustworthy God. We can be enticed to give into impatience rather than fully surrendering to the faithfulness of Jesus. In Psalm 27, David expresses authentic faith and courageous trust in God as he cries out and waits in confident expectation that the Lord will rescue and save him in his time of trouble. In Verse 14 he declares he will, “Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.” David is training his heart to trust and remember that the Lord hears him and he is faithful. In his perfect timing God will answer David and come to his rescue. In his perfect timing God will answer you and come to your rescue. Waiting for God to come through is a way that God builds your faith and character and grows your spiritual maturity. Waiting can feel like wasted time but it isn't. The waiting sanctifies you. The waiting humbles you. The waiting prunes you. The waiting strengthens your dependence on God. What are you waiting for from God? Will you trust him? It really comes down to choice. Will you choose patience and faith, or will you give into fear, doubt, worry, and anxiety? Listen, God is for you. He is making a way for you. Cooperate with him so the time spent waiting will prove productive and fruitful. There is wisdom in the waiting.
