In this episode of Dead Hour we tell the stories of two real life cults. Tristen tells the story of the Colonia Dignidad Nazi cult in Chile and Jordan tells the story of the Chicago Rippers satanic cult from the 1980s.
Dead Hour has returned this week with a review of the Stephen King remake, IT. Tristen and Jordan make comparisons to the original miniseries as well as talking about the infamous killer clown, John Wayne Gacy as well as some other real life events involving clown costumes and murder.
Join us this week as we go see The Belko Experiment written by James Gunn and directed by Greg McLean. This movie involves a human social experiment that pits coworkers against each other with the ethical conflict of trying to save everyone versus sacrificing a few people to save the majority. From IMDB: In a twisted social experiment, 80 Americans are locked in their high-rise corporate office in Bogotá, Colombia and ordered by an unknown voice coming from the company's intercom system to participate in a deadly game of kill or be killed.
We chose The Phoenix Incident, a movie based on real life events surrounding UFO sightings around the Phoenix area in 1997 and the military cover up that followed. From IMDB: Thursday March 13th, 1997 marks the date of the Phoenix Lights, the largest mass UFO sighting in US History. The night of the incident, four Phoenix residents vanished in the Estrella Mountain National Park, south of Phoenix. Glenn Lauder (28), Mitch Adams (29), Ryan Stone (27), and Jacob Reynolds (28) were reported missing to the Maricopa County Sheriff's office. The infamous "Lauder Case" has become the longest unresolved missing person's case in Arizona history.
This week we watch Jordan Peele's take on a horror movie, Get Out. This movie delivers some great and scary moments using elements of horror and social views of race. A young black man visits his white girlfriend's family estate where he learns that many of its residents, who are black, have gone missing, and he soon learns the horrible truth when a fellow black man on the estate warns him to "get out". He soon learns this is easier said than done.
This week we sat down to watch The Autopsy of Jane Doe. This movie takes some twists and turns before revealing the root of the spooky happenings occurring in the morgue. Brian Cox and Emile Hirsch play father and son coroners who receive a mysterious homicide victim with no apparent cause of death. As they attempt to identify the young "Jane Doe," they discover increasingly bizarre clues that hold the key to her terrifying secrets.
For our first show of 2017 we chose Borderland, a movie loosely based on some of the horrendous acts of Adolfo Constanzo and his drug dealing cult, the Narco-Satanicos. Three college students, Phil, Ed, and Henry take a road trip into Mexico for a week of drinking and carefree fun only to have Phil find himself a captive of a group of satanic Mexican drug smugglers who kill tourists and whom are looking for a group of new ones to prepare for a sacrifice.
This week we take a break from the movies and watch The Real Texas Chainsaw Massacre, a documentary about the life and actions of Robert Elmer Kleason. This week we also have our first guest, Gabby Knight!
This week we go to the premiere of Let Me Make You A Martyr at Tulsa's own Circle Cinema. This movie was written and directed by John Swab and Corey Asraf, filmed in Tulsa, Oklahoma and featured Marilyn Manson, Mark Boone Junior, Sam Quartin, and Niko Nicotera. A cerebral revenge film about two adopted siblings who fall in love, and hatch a plan to kill their abusive father.
This week we don't talk about one particular movie, instead we talk about several movies that are based off of real life serial killers and true events. A few of the movies that we talk about are A Nightmare on Elm Street, The Sacrament, Monster, Amityville Horror, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and The Rite. Some of the serial killers that we talk about are Ed Gein, Adolfo De Jesus Constanzo, and the Texarkana Phantom Killer.
This week we went to see the new release currently in theaters and video on demand: The Blair Witch. On this episode we go over the long awaited sequel. As always be prepared for spoilers!
This week we get excited about Rob Zombie's newest cinema venture, 31. Like most of Zombie's movies the characters will be faced with unthinkable horror and will have to come out stronger to survive the sadistic game that is 31. The day before Halloween, five carnival employees are kidnapped & held hostage in an isolated compound known as "Murderworld". On Halloween, they are thrown into a sadistic game called "31" where they must survive 12 hours against a gang of maniacs dressed like clowns. However, the clowns aren't the only ones they need to worry about - a grand scheme of satanic rituals & a much more sadistic plot awakens. It's time to play 31.
This week we went out to the theater for our last chance to watch an intense horror thriller movie, Don't Breathe. Once the thrill starts it doesn't stop. If you are like us, you will find yourself holding your breath at moments when the suspense is at a peak. Rocky, a young woman wanting to start a better life for her and her sister, agrees to take part in the robbery of a house owned by a wealthy blind man with her boyfriend Money and their friend Alex. But when the blind man turns out to be a more than he seems, the group must find a way to escape his home before they become his newest victims.
This week we watched Almost Mercy, a movie that brought back a few memories of our high school days. Among the cast of Almost Mercy are a couple horror legends, Bill Mosely and Kane Hodder. Jackson and Emily aren't like the other kids. Two burgeoning sociopaths on the brink of total meltdown. Ticking time bombs seeking revenge. Who will unravel first?
DEATHGASM This week we came back with a Heavy Metal Horror Comedy, DEATHGASM! This movie is a lot of fun and has a great soundtrack. Two teenage boys unwittingly summon an ancient evil entity known as The Blind One by delving into black magic while trying to escape their mundane lives.
When Rebecca left home, she thought she left her childhood fears behind. Growing up, she was never really sure of what was and wasn't real when the lights went out...and now her little brother, Martin, is experiencing the same unexplained and terrifying events that had once tested her sanity and threatened her safety. A frightening entity with a mysterious attachment to their mother, Sophie, has reemerged. But this time, as Rebecca gets closer to unlocking the truth, there is no denying that all their lives are in danger...once the lights go out. We venture out to one of our local small movie theaters to see Lights Out. Even after a few disturbances in the theater we still enjoyed this horror thriller.
Join us this week for The Invitation. In this movie the lead character, Will, goes through a cycle of emotions while trying to navigate through an eerie encounter with his Ex, Eden and her new boyfriend, David. Will and Eden were once a loving couple. After a tragedy took their son, Eden disappeared. Two years later, out of the blue, she returns with a new husband... and as a different person, eerily changed and eager to reunite with her ex and those she left behind. Over the course of a dinner party in the house that was once his, the haunted Will is gripped by mounting evidence that Eden and her new friends have a mysterious and terrifying agenda. But can we trust Will's hold on reality? Or will he be the unwitting catalyst of the doom he senses?
We come back after a couple weeks off with a horror comedy movie, Ava's Possessions. This movie takes us through the events that occur after the possession has ended and the person is left to deal with the consequences of the entity's actions. Ava Dobkins is recovering from demonic possession. With no memory of the past month, she is forced to attend a Spirit Possession Anonymous support group. As Ava struggles to reconnect with her friends, get her job back, and figure out where the huge bloodstain in her apartment came from, she's plagued by nightmarish visions - the demon is trying to come back.
Just as we announced last week, we are watching The Conjuring 2! In this episode we watch the newest film revolving around the paranormal investigations conducted by the Warrens. In 1977, paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren travel to London, England, where single mother Peggy Hodgson believes that something evil is in her home. When Peggy's youngest daughter starts showing signs of demonic possession, Ed and Lorraine attempt to help the girl, only to find themselves targeted by the malicious spirits.
This week we are watching The Conjuring in anticipation for the newly released The Conjuring 2. We also take a look at a few other cases that Ed & Lorraine Warren investigated. In 1971, Carolyn and Roger Perron move their family into a dilapidated Rhode Island farm house and soon strange things start happening around it with escalating nightmarish terror. In desperation, Carolyn contacts the noted paranormal investigators, Ed and Lorraine Warren, to examine the house. What the Warrens discover is a whole area steeped in a satanic haunting that is now targeting the Perron family wherever they go.
