PUBLIC VERSION. Filmmaker Dave Parker (THE HILLS RUN RED, TALES OF HALLOWEEN, PUPPET MASTER: DOKTOR DEATH, IT WATCHES) returns to THE MOVIE CRYPT to discuss the making of his latest film YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE LET ME IN (now playing on Tubi). From the whirlwind process of being hired to direct the project and immediately shipping off to Italy… to the supposedly “haunted” villa that much of the film was shot in and filming in a real underground tomb… to the challenges and the joys of helming a film as a “work for hire” while still finding ways to creatively make it your own… to the secrets for winning over a new crew… to returning to work with the great Charlie Band and directing PUPPET MASTER: DOKTOR DEATH (2022)… to how to stretch a production's extremely limited resources to create the best possible film… to why editing experience can be so crucial to directing… Dave's experiences from the last several years are an inspiring lesson on how to hang in there when it feels like things aren't going the way you want it to and just how quickly the tide can change. Dr. Arwen provides “Hollywood Therapy” for a filmmaker who is working crew jobs while looking to prepare for the moment when he steps into the director's chair, Dave dishes on the food in Italy, and the group nerds out on the 2024 Oscars and the movies they've been digging. Check out Dave's first MOVIE CRYPT appearance way back on episode 19 in the “Classic Crypt” tier on www.Patreon.com/TheMovieCrypt Meet Adam NEXT weekend (March 22 - 24) at HORRORHOUND WEEKEND in Cincinnati, OH when he appears along with HATCHET franchise stars Kane Hodder, Joel David Moore, Joshua Leonard, and Zach Galligan! My explorations of the North East took me to Salem, Massachusetts this past week for Halloween. The energy and feel of the place gave me heightened inspiration to dive into my Divine Feminine magic. To forget what anyone might say and to be radical, be a rebel, follow my heart because we have work to finish, ladies! For those who don't know, the Salem Witch trials that occurred in the 1650's are a famous account of the witch hunts thats took place around the globe and ultimately left millions of (mostly) Women dead. Nowadays, if we are fortunate enough to live in a free and progressive nation, we don't have to worry about being burned at the stake or hung in the town square for speaking our truth and having ideas. I believe that's why so many women are feeling the call to get into their Witchy feminine side.On this Divine Feminine solo episode, I share about my experience in Salem and my thoughts on why it's so imperative for Women to embrace their true nature, follow their intuition, and be courageous in stepping forward with their words and ideas whose time have come. BUON HALLOWEEN A TUTTI!!!
Trick 'r Treat is a 2007 American anthology horror comedy film written and directed by Michael Dougherty and produced by Bryan Singer. The film stars Dylan Baker, Rochelle Aytes, Anna Paquin and Brian Cox. It relates four Halloween horror stories with a common element in them: Sam, a trick-or-treating demon wearing orange footie pajamas with a burlap sack over his head. The character makes an appearance in each of the stories whenever one of the other characters breaks a Halloween tradition. Despite being delayed for two years and having only a limited number of screenings at film festivals, the film received much critical acclaim and has since garnered a strong cult following. Tales of Halloween is a 2015 American comedy horror anthology film consisting of ten interlocking segments, each revolving around the titular holiday. Segments were directed by Neil Marshall, Darren Lynn Bousman, Axelle Carolyn, Lucky McKee, Andrew Kasch, Paul Solet, John Skipp, Adam Gierasch, Jace Anderson, Mike Mendez, Ryan Schifrin, Dave Parker and, in his film debut, Jack Dylan Grazer. The film premiered on July 24, 2015, at the Fantasia International Film Festival, before receiving a limited theatrical release and through video on demand on October 16, 2015, by Epic Pictures. Spooktober rolls on, with this week being Anthology week. Every year we like to highlight a horror anthology during the month, and this year we're watching Tales of Halloween. Travis and Fae were watching it for the first time, but Wicked and Dread had seen it already. It's 10 short stories based on Halloween night. But are they any good? It's full of Cameos and easter eggs, but does this bring much in the way of spooky? Does it get the spirit of Halloween? Let's find out...Thanks go out to Audie Norman (@TheAudieNorman) for the album art. In this episode I discuss "Tales of Halloween" (2015).
Ever wondered about the spooky origins of Halloween and how it evolved into the holiday we know today? In this BUSTING BACK EPISODE, embark on a chilling journey as Jackie and Ella unravel the suspenseful history and traditions of this spectral celebration and tons of trick or treating fun facts / Halloween fun facts for kids! The journey begins with the start of Halloween, rooted in Celtic festivals marking the end of summer and onset of death-associated cold seasons, and how it was later influenced by the Romans and their own festive customs. From there, we hop across the Atlantic, unmasking how this eerie European tradition blended with Native American customs to morph into a uniquely American celebration. With the influx of Irish immigrants in the 19th century, Halloween began to weave its web all over the nation. The treasured custom of trick-or-treating didn't miss our radar either. Brace yourself as we navigate through its history, tracing back to early Celtic and Roman Catholic festivals and the 9th-century All Souls Day.Finally, we cast light on the sweet side of Halloween - candy history! Learn about the creation of the quintessential candy corn by the Golitz family and the fascinating tale of the 1923 Chicken Dinner Candy Bar. But the Halloween magic doesn't end in America. We'll jet around the world, unearthing Halloween traditions in different cultures, from the Hungry Ghost Festival in Hong Kong to Dia das Bruchas in Brazil. Lucky McKee is one of the most respected genre film directors today. His works include The Woman, an episode of Masters of Horror, and a segment from Tales of Halloween. He may be best known for the cult favorite May. This week he joins the show to talk about his latest film, Old Man.Starring Stephen Lang and Marc Sent, Old Man is a thriller about a hiker that stumbles on a cabin that is inhabited by an eccentric loner. As the two continue to talk, it is clear that one of them is holding a dark secret. The question becomes, who is lying and for what reason? We talk with Lucky about his approach to the making the film and the difficulties he faced. We also talk about the amazing performances of Lang and what her brought to Old Man. We talk about the chemistry between Lang and Sent, how to keep the suspense in an exposition heavy single setting movie, and the importance of pacing.Lucky stuck around to talk about a new addition to the Shudder library. Trick or Treats from 1982 has a premise that should make it a classic. A babysitter is stuck watching over a mean boy who pranks her every chance he gets. Even worse, the boy's father has escaped from the mental asylum and is on his way back home. And this is all happening on Halloween. For better and worse, the movie never pulls things together in a coherent way. There are a number of plot holes, its depiction of mental health is borderline insulting, and we could never figure out what tone it was going for. It is very funny, but never for the right reasons.Adventures in Movies! is a part of the Morbidly Beautiful Podcast Network. Morbidly Beautiful is your one stop shop for all your horror needs. On this episode of FIVE DOLLAR BUZZ, the Buzzards rip it up with venerable character actor and musician James Duval who has had one helluva career. His career starts with what would become a lifelong cinematic relationship. His work with filmmaker Gregg Araki has spawned four feature films, one MTV pilot and one television series including TOTALLY F***ED UP, THE DOOM GENERATION, NOWHERE, KABOOM, "This Is How the World Ends" and "Now Apocalypse". Jimmy would go on to a career that spans over 30 years and over 175 credits. Some of his other most known films include early trangressive masterwork MOD FUCK EXPLOSION, INDEPENDENCE DAY (as Randy Quaid's son), Doug Liman's GO, the GONE IN 60 SECONDS remake (with Nic Cage and Angelina Jolie), SLC PUNK and it's sequel PUNK'S DEAD: SLC PUNK 2, the Sundance horror film MAY, he won an award for the film THE DOE BOY, SUSHI GIRL, TALES OF HALLOWEEN, and, most recently, I, CHALLENGER (see episode 302!). There is one movie that he can never quite shake. It was a small Sundance film that rolled out to deathly box office numbers but over time has steadily become one of the most well-known cult films of all time. That, of course, is DONNIE DARKO where he plays Frank the Rabbit. Then there is the music side of Jimmy. As a guitarist he led a band called Antoneus Maximus & The Nuthouze Band and played in another called Gene Wilder with fellow filmmakers Brian McGuire and Bret Roberts. He associated strongly with jangle pop band The Jazz Butcher and worked with David J from Bauhaus and Love & Rockets. So get out your yoga mat, light some incense, drink some herbal tea as we venture into the career, loves and passions, and overall positive and energetic state of mind of one James Duval on this episode of FIVE DOLLAR BUZZ. Please remember to hit "like" and "subscribe" on our YouTube Channel, Spotify and iTunes. Tell your friends. If you have any comments, questions, ideas for topics or guests please email us at FIVEDOLLARBUZZ@gmail.com. We'll get back to ya as soon as we ask Frank the Rabbit about this nuclear warhead that just rose up in our fucking living room

Learn how he chooses which figures that make the cut, and how his film short including his Comic-Con exclusive Guillermo del Toro action figure rose to the attention of the Shape of Water director himself. It's the most wonderful time, of the year. My favorite time of year, my favorite month, my favorite holiday and my favorite episode of the podcast. This year is no exception. I can't summon the Great Pumpkin but I can squash any fears that this episode is anything less than awesome. Get it? Pumpkin and squash, because they're vaguely similar. Okay.Big Guns! Patton Oswalt is my guest. We're gonna talk the horror movies that made us who we are. Showing them to your kids. Make them one of us. One of us. Laurie Jacobsen is here. Laurie wrote the best book I have ever read about supernatural doings in the heart of Tinseltown, Hollywood Haunted. Find out who couldn't take the hint and stuck around after they died. And actor, writer and cinema collector extraordinaire, Bob Burns. You may not know Bob by name, but he has had a documentary and two books written about him. He is one of the most fascinating people I have ever known, and if you are a fan of all things Halloween, then you, like me, will soon be looking up to Bob as the mentor that I do. A truly extraordinary guy with an extraordinary story. Also joining us is filmmaker Frank Dietz, maker of said documentary, entitled Beast Wishes.Last, but not least, on October 16th in theaters and Video On Demand, the film Tales Of Halloween. A horror anthology featuring the top tier fright filmmakers at work today, I am joined in the cast of that movie by Greg Grunberg - he's in Star Wars - Cerina Vincent, James Duval, Lisa Marie, John Savage, John Landis, Joe Dante, Adrienne Barbeau, Pat Healey, Mick Garris. I will not tell you what happens to me in the movie but I will tell you what I learned on the set. If it's five o-'clock in the morning and you have got a bucket of fake blood that's been sitting out all night, when that stuff finally comes out of the pump, it's COLD. Tales Of Halloween, I am so happy to be in that movie and on your October podcast queue. There they are. Trick or treat! http://www.danagould.com
