Lalita du Perron talks to Amrit Deol of Fresno State University about her project on the Ghaddar party and Sikh diasporic history, and her future work on life in the borderlands.
Hello wine friends, and welcome back! This week we dive into Part Two of my conversation with Ernst Loosen of Dr.Loosen. If Part One was all about Riesling royalty, this one is for the Pinot aficionados. While Ernie is globally known for his Riesling, he's also been quietly and passionately cultivating a deep connection with Pinot Noir from Germany's rolling hills of the Pfalz with Villa Wolf, to the expressive soils of Oregon's Willamette Valley at Appassionata Estate, and now into the sacred vineyards of Burgundy itself with Perron de Mypont. In this episode, Ernie shares why Pinot Noir captured his heart, the styles he's chasing, and what makes Pinot from the Pfalz, Oregon, and Burgundy so distinct. Stick around until the end, Ernie doesn't hold back when it comes to sharing his truth. If you want to skip ahead: 02.24: Origins of Villa Wolf – Established in 1996 to focus on Pinot varieties in Pfalz 03.30: Pinot varieties have centuries of tradition in the Rhine and Pfalz regions 04.30: Aged Pinot Noir and Riesling share similar aromas – “sous bois” character 05.00: Use of “Pinot Noir” vs. “Spätburgunder” depending on export market 07.00: Tasting and discussing the Villa Wolf Pinot Noir 2022 £12.95 Cheers Wine Merchants 11.30: Comparing German clones with French 14.00: Comparing the terroir Pfalz vs. Mosel 17.00: Why Pfalz is nicknamed “Tuscany of Germany” 20.00: Introducing Loosen's Oregon project: Appassionata Estate 22.00: Appassionata named after Beethoven's passionate composition 22.30: Wines aged longer before release, unlike typical U.S. practice 24.00: Volcanic soils require longer aging before release 26.30: Longest-aged wines come from basalt-rich plots 28.00: Ernst acquisition of the Vieux Château de Puligny-Montrachet in 2019 and it's history in Burgundy 30.32: The style of Pinot Noir that Ernst is crafting 32.30: Whole bunch fermentation vs destemming 34.43: Stem use in winemaking: positives and negatives 36.30: Ernst's oak philosophy with Pinot Noir 39.30: Ernst favors 2019 Burgundy vintage and 2014 in Oregon 41.30: Winemaking focus to avoid high alcohol styles 42.30: Ernst speaks his truth: Low yields in this current climate does not just mean a better wine 46.24: Where is the world Ernst would want to plant next 47.45: Most memorable Pinot: Domaine Armand Rousseau 1969 Chambertin 49.00: Ernst's advice for the next generation of winemakers Any thoughts or questions, do email me: janina@eatsleepwinerepeat.co.uk Or contact me on Instagram @eatsleep_winerepeat If you fancy watching some videos on my youtube channel: Eat Sleep Wine Repeat Or come say hi at www.eatsleepwinerepeat.co.uk Until next time, Cheers to you! ---------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------- THE EAT SLEEP WINE REPEAT PODCAST HAS BEEN FEATURED IN DECANTER MAGAZINE, RADIO TIMES AND FEED SPOT AS THE 6TH BEST UK WINE MAKING PODCAST.
This is a Grave Talks CLASSIC EPISODE! When Roger and Carolyn Perron moved their five daughters onto a sprawling 200‑acre Rhode Island farm in 1970, the previous owner offered only one piece of advice: “Leave the lights on at night.” What followed became one of the most chilling real‑life hauntings ever recorded—later inspiring the blockbuster film The Conjuring. For nearly ten years the Perrons shared their home with entities from every fold of time: mournful children, unseen hands, and the vengeful spirit the family came to call “Bathsheba.” Doors slammed, beds levitated, and history itself seemed to bleed through the walls. In this episode, Andrea Perron—eldest daughter and author of House of Darkness | House of Light—recounts the true events the movie only hinted at: the séances, the midnight battles for control of a mother's soul, and the moment they finally realized the dead were not leaving. Join us as we step inside the old Arnold Estate—lights on—and discover what it means to “live among the dead.” Become a Premium Supporter of The Grave Talks Through Apple Podcasts or Patreon (http://www.patreon.com/thegravetalks) There, you will get: Access to every episode of our show, AD-FREE!

Interview with Victor Cantore, President & CEO of Amex Exploration Inc.Our previous interview: https://www.cruxinvestor.com/posts/amex-exploration-tsxv-amx-133m-in-annual-free-cash-flow-within-reach-at-quebec-gold-project-6378Recording date: 11th February 2025Amex Exploration is advancing its Perron gold project in Quebec's Abitibi region, pursuing a dual strategy of resource expansion and development validation. The project currently hosts 1.6 million ounces of gold across multiple high-grade zones, with only 20-25% of the 4,518-hectare property explored to date. The company's 2024 preliminary economic assessment (PEA) outlines robust project economics. The study projects average annual production of 101,000 ounces of gold over a 10-year mine life, with higher production of 124,000 ounces in the first five years. All-in sustaining costs are estimated at US$807/oz life-of-mine, dropping to US$739/oz in the first five years. At a US$2,000/oz gold price, the project demonstrates an after-tax NPV(5%) of $525 million and an IRR of 40.2%, with projected cumulative after-tax free cash flow of $767 million.Amex has two drill rigs currently operating on the property and is planning a balanced approach to its 2025 exploration program. The company will split its remaining funds equally between infill drilling to upgrade existing resources and exploration drilling to expand known zones and make new discoveries. The technical team is utilizing artificial intelligence and machine learning to identify the most promising targets in the unexplored 75-80% of the property. On the development front, Amex is evaluating several initiatives including a potential preliminary feasibility study and a bulk sample program similar to Osisko Mining's approach at their Windfall project. The company has also begun early-stage permitting work.Mid-tier producer Eldorado Gold holds a 9.9% strategic stake in Amex and provides quarterly technical guidance through regular meetings. While Amex is focused on advancing Perron independently, CEO Victor Cantore acknowledges the possibility of eventual acquisition interest from major miners given the project's high-grade nature and location in the mining-friendly Quebec jurisdiction. The investment thesis for Amex centers on its high-grade resource base, strong PEA economics, significant exploration upside, and strategic backing from Eldorado Gold. The company is operating in Quebec's Abitibi Greenstone Belt, a prolific gold region that has historically produced over 200 million ounces. With gold prices at multi-year highs and growing investor interest in development-stage companies, Amex appears well-positioned to deliver value through both resource growth and project advancement.Learn more: https://cruxinvestor.com/companies/amex-explorationSign up for Crux Investor: https://cruxinvestor.com

In the early morning hours of September 14, 1982, a man broke into a home in Newport News, Virginia and beat 30-year-old Jesse Perron to death with a crowbar. Then, over several hours, the attacker sexually assaulted Perron’s 22-year-old wife, Teresa, leaving bite marks during the assaults. Teresa and Jesse Perron’s home was located near the shipyard where the U.S.S. Carl Vinson was harbored and where Perron worked as a welder. Over several months bite mark impressions were taken from hundreds of sailors on the Carl Vinson. Police had no suspects at that time. Keith Harward had been among those whose teeth were examined in the immediate aftermath of the investigation, but he had been ruled out as the source of the bitemarks on Teresa by a civilian dental consultant working with the Newport News City medical examiner. When Harward came to court, Teresa was there, but could not identify him as the attacker. After police asked Harward to submit to a second procedure to perform bite mark analysis, they determined that Keith’s bite marks matched the ones found on Teresa. Harward was subsequently convicted of capital murder, rape, robbery and burglary and sentenced to life in prison.
