“When I say Hollywood, I mean it in the loosest possible terms” The panel of peril go backpacking through the harsh terrain of the North Wales, where nothing of any real consequence happens to them. Just as well, as they have a filmic date to get to as they have matched with Wolf Creek 2 (Greg McLean, 2013). The Australian Outback too attracts many such backpackers. Such as Rutger (Phillippe Klaus) and Katarina (Shannon Ashlyn), visiting from Germany, who find themselves in their own personal Heaven. Soon to turn into Hell! Psychopathic, xenophobic, wildlife gamekeeper Mick Taylor (John Jarratt) has caught their trail, and has designs on a very bitter ending to the couple's dream trip. Watch the trailer here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s4bqeT5edbs ********PLOT SPOILER ALERT******** Temporarily rescued from Mick's clutches by English tourist Paul (Ryan Corr), things look quite grim for everyone as Mick chases them by foot, by road, (NOT by air) and refuses to give up until he has caught them. Finally winding up in one of Mick's many hidden, abandoned, bases across the Outback, will he devour his prey, or will the intrepid foreigners outwit the Aussie madman? Just what did the panel think of this week's movie, pray tell? How can they improve upon Mick's twisted scheme? The Blind Rage podcast: Horror Movie Commentaries

This week on The Blind Rage Podcast, we're returning to The Land Down Under for Greg McLean's cult classic WOLF CREEK! Brutal and oftentimes extreme, McLean's celluloid nightmare holds up quite well. With its simple premise involving three backpackers who are accosted by a maniac in the middle of nowhere, it's a raw terror that could—and does—happen to anyone. The thought of being lost in the Australian Outback is horrifying enough, but to be lost with a psychopath like Mick Taylor hot on your trail… Well, that's an experience I can do without. Unfortunately, for these friends, they'll learn how it feels to be hunted, as well as the true meaning of “a head on a stick.” --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/blindragepod/message

Australia.

When he comes across a group of men broken down on the side of the road, inside Australia's most desolate countryside, he stops to help them. These men aren't broken down though and shortly after, he wakes up buried alive hundreds of miles from any civilization, in one of the most unrelenting deserts on the planet. Episode 52 is now Live! Meet Greg McLean. Greg's journey in hospitality started at the age of 18 when his parents bought a coffee franchise. After spending a few years managing their store he decided to move back to the Gold Coast with no intention to ever get back into hospitality. It didn't take long for him to realise working for others wasn't for him so with the support of his girlfriend they opened a small hole in the wall espresso bar in Sunshine Coast called your place. Since then Greg and his partner have gone on to open 10 venues all around Queensland. Greg now owns The Bungalow in Yeppoon, which is going from strength to strength and is also about to launch his third food and music festival called socal Although Greg was faced with many obstacles along the way he has successfully been able to sell all venues he has opened and has built and amazing reputation. I was blown away by Greg's drive, attitude and his ability to make things happen and can't wait for you to all hear his story.

Episode 48 of The Blank Canvas Podcast with Alex Russell Alex Russell is one of those young actors who’s been quietly, or not so quietly racked up a dozen movie credits; both in Australia and the US. After starring in the acclaimed indie feature Wasted on the Young, he played the lead role in the US science fiction thriller Chronicle, grossing over $126 million. Then starred in re-make of Brian De Palma’s horror classic, Carrie alongside Julianne Moore & Chloe Grace Moretz, Andrew Niccol’s movie The Host, Cut Snake with director Tony Ayres, a role in Angelina Jolie's Academy Award nominated epic Unbroken, Greg McLean’s film Jungle opposite Daniel Radcliffe, Only The Brave with Josh Brolin, Goldstone, with Jacki Weaver. In television, Alex is into the 5th season of global hit drama SWAT, starring as the much loved Jim Street. This is all great but what impressed me most and prompted me to want to have a yak with Alex, is that rather than just cruising along as a successful working actor, he’s pro-actively producing his own projects. His latest micro-budget indie movie UNDER MY SKIN is punching well above it’s weight. Written and Directed by Alex’s regular collaborator Aussie David O’Donnell, and produced by Alex and Raynen O’Keefe. The story follows Denny, a free spirit and artist who falls for Ryan, a strait-laced lawyer, played by Alex. When Denny questions her gender their love is tested. It’s a powerful film and just won the Alternative Spirit Award at the prestigious Rhode Island International Film Festival and is currently trending on Aussie streaming platform in STAN.

The Time Shifters Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Sep 5, 2016

The Darkness was released in theaters in May 2016 and as of Sept, 9th 2016 will be available on home video. Australian actress Radha Mitchell ("Pitch Black", "Silent Hill", and "The Crazies") is the wife and mother, Bronny. Lucy Fry, as daughter Stephanie, might be recognized from "Vampire Academy", and she apparently played a mermaid once... David (Dah-veed) Mazouz who starred long side Keifer Sutherland in "Touch" and can now be seen as Bruce Wayne on "Gotham" plays the young autistic son, Mikey. Heading them all up is the dad, Pete, played by Kevin Bacon of, well.. Kevin Bacon fame. Directed by Greg McLean, whose previous work includes "Rogue", about a man eating crocodile, and "Wolf Creek" which concerned some back packers in the Australian outback terrorized by a sadistic local. McLean is also a member of Total Film Magazines Alan Jones', "Splat Pack"! This group made up with directors making brutally violent horror films. Some of the other members, Darren Lynn Bousman, Eli Roth, & Rob Zombie. Now with McLean at the helm, and with an actress not unfamiliar with the violent action film, you might think you'll be sitting down to a blood soaked scare-fest! Well, unless you happened to notice that the two writers in conjunction with McLean, Shayne Armstrong & Shane Krause, are the creators and writers for the 2009 "Doctor Who" spin-off series, "K-9". Now you might be thinking this will be a little tempered and you'd be right. Coming in at a solid PG-13 rating, this could almost be considered, "family viewing" material. In fact, you cut out the obligatory PG-13 allowed f-bomb, this could almost be PG! The Darkness begins with a couple of families camping in Nowhere-Utah-Colorado-New Mexico-Arizona-ville. While hiking, the first of MANY unimportant story elements, teen boy character, leads Stephanie and Mikey into the canyons of where ever they are. When he and Stephanie wander off a little too far, Mikey discovers in pure plot-contrivance fashion, a hidden cave and within that cave, 5 carved stones on an alter. He of course pockets the stones. The next scene is everyone back at camp as if nothing happened and the trip is over as the two families go their separate ways. Well, as you'd expect, things begin to go a bit weird. Mikey, begins to act even more odd than usual. The family tries to write it off as his autism manifesting itself in a new and different way. While they deal with faucets seemingly turning themselves on, a weird smell in the house, and the neighbors dog going crazy, they also deal with Bronny's struggle with alcoholism, Stephanie's discovered to be bulimic, and Pete deals with NOT having an affair with the new intern, something that he has apparently done in the past. Most of what I just mentioned, you can forget about, as none of it plays into the film whatsoever! And that is my biggest problem with the film.. All these small, and sometimes major, details are brought in to the story, and in the end they are just things created to give everyone else something to do while Mikey welcomes the demons into our world. Oh, did I not mention the demons? Yeah, there are dark spirits from another dimension trying to come into our world. Thanks to the most informative Youtube-like video ever created, we learn that they tried once before and the Anasazi tribes defeated them and trapped them into, wait for it.. did you guess? Yup, 5 carved stones! MIkey's autism is the only character element that has any significance to the story and even that is periphery at best. It gives him and excuse to behave strangely and not have anyone really take notice, and while in the end, it is his autistic view on the world that saves that day, it is telegraphed so early on in the film, that it comes as no surprise. Seriously, if you can't figure out how the film ends by about the 40 minute mark, you are not paying attention. The film, according to Greg McLean, is based on an actual haunting,
