Welcome back to Not A Bomb! This is the podcast where we explore some of cinema's biggest box office failures and decide whether they deserve a second chance. We are celebrating five years of discussing cinematic flops.Strap in, horror hounds and sci-fi fanatics, because this week on Not A Bomb, Troy and Brad are trading Camp Crystal Lake for the cold vacuum of space. That's right—our Spooktacular series takes a zero-gravity detour into the year 2455 with the tenth installment of the Friday the 13th franchise: Jason X. And if you thought Jason couldn't get any deadlier, wait until you see him with a chrome makeover and nanotech upgrades.Troy and Brad dive deep into the film's gloriously campy premise, dissecting everything from the questionable science to the surprisingly inventive death scenes. Yes, we're talking about that liquid nitrogen face smash. And let's not forget the holodeck sequence that lovingly parodies Jason's roots—because nothing says nostalgia like sleeping bag fatalities. So whether you're a die-hard Friday the 13th fan or just here for the popcorn and space carnage, this episode of Not A Bomb is your ticket to the final frontier of slasher absurdity. Tune in, laugh along, and remember in space, no one can hear you scream... unless Jason's upgraded machete is involved.Jason X is directed by James Isaac and stars Kane Hodder, Lexa Doig, Lisa Ryder, Chuck Campbell, Melyssa Ade and Peter Mensah. To celebrate the last 25 years of film, the Not A Bomb podcast is compiling a Top 25 list from the Not A Bomb community. Please help support Sai in the Quarter-Finalist round for the Face of Halloween by donating to the Starlight Children's Foundation to bring some joy and love to seriously ill children. Sai has the opportunity to win $13,000, and to meet Jamie Lee Curtis, Kane Hodder and Matthew Lillard as well as being featured in Rue Morgue Magazine, if she wins. Currently, she is in fourth place but would love to at least close out at third in this round, if possible - though first would be fabulous to become a National Finalist in the Top 10.Votes by donation for the Face of Halloween are doubled until 9:00 PM PST tonight, giving me a chance to outrun the monster before the final round closes tomorrow night, 10/16, at 9:00 PM PST. Once again it is Friday the 13th so, of course, we have a Friday the 13th movie review! Part VII: The New Blood (1988) features the first appearance of Kane Hodder as Jason Vorhees who also sets a filming record in this movie for the longest legit stunt fire scene up to that date. There is a new cast of victims for Jason to prey upon, but the same tired formula continues in this very predictable movie leading to future changes. Did you know this movie was supposed to be Carrie verses Jason? It was also supposed to be Freddy verses Jason too but that was pushed down the road a few years. Let's talk about it. This episode we're covering Friday the 13th Part VII The New Blood. This film holds a lot of nostalgia for Shad and is one of the more historically significant entries in the series.
This week we're making dreams come true with 1997's throwback creature feature WISHMASTER. Featuring a who's who of horror both in front and behind the camera, the birth of the Djinn makes for a fun romp in the vein of not only 80s splatter horror, but also the classic Universal Monsters of yore. With FX from KNB and appearances from Robert Englund, Tony Todd, Kane Hodder, Reggie Bannister, Ted Raimi, the voice of Angus Scrimm along with an executive production credit by Wes Craven, this is a Dream Team of creatives for a B-movie. Mike, Brian and Devaughn are joined by guest John Seavey of the Half Priced Horror podcast but be careful what you wish for, because dreams can turn to nightmares pretty quick. Also, what's with all the smoking?

FREDDY VS. JASON brings together two titans of '80s horror: Freddy Kreuger (Robert Englund) and Jason Voorhees (Ken Kirzinger). In a bid to regain his strength through surging fear through the souls of Elm Street, Freddy manipulates Jason to doing some killing on his behalf. However, when Jason starts taking the credit and hacking through more of the available body count, Freddy grows jealous and petty. The fight is on, with a group of teenagers caught in the middle. This movie underwent 17 years of development hell before arriving in theaters. That's 17 years of studios losing and gaining rights to the franchises, installments developed on both sides in lieu of a team-up, a carousel of writers and directors pitching their ideas and ditching the project, and a replacement of one of the most iconic actors to ever don a horror villain's mask. Kane Hodder, you deserve the world. With all this being said, should FREDDY VS. JASON be regarded as a hallmark of the genre? No. It serves best as a sampler of what both franchises have to offer: Freddy's surrealism & sarcasm and Jason's massacring lumbering boogeyman. The CGI effects, emblematic of the time, don't always work. They often elicit a laugh. But given that FRIDAY THE 13TH PART V and FREDDY'S DEAD exist? We could've gotten much worse. The fact this exists in this form is a mini-miracle.A massive thanks to Dakota (To quote Tarantino, he's "a buddy who's more than a brother and a little less than a wife.") for requesting this episode. It's part 1 of our ‘New York' series, and we take a slow boat to the Big Apple with “Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan”. A film in which a group of students get ripped off when they hire a “cruise ship”; New York City is a seething cesspool of crime and toxic waste; and Kane Hodder gets to pre-emptively leather the bloke who eventually nicked his job. “Jason Takes Manhattan” has our hockey-masked antihero bludgeneoning his way through yet another group of annoying teens; whilst also ticking off other touchstones of the “Friday…” franchise, such as an over-lit flashback and even a crazy harbinger. Despite this, the film somehow lacks something, maybe it's the fact that we take far too long to get to NYC, or that, by this point, we've seen it all once too often. However, like most good slasher films, as a party movie with friends and/or your recreational substance of choice, it's still a lot of daft fun. Watch (or re-watch) to avoid spoilers and join us
Mike and Tom agree too much about nearly every aspect of this movie to fight like the titular characters do but are ready to do battle when the subject of one of these killers comes up because we're only chatting about this sequel from the Jason perspective. For now that is. That's right, we're talking Freddy vs. Jason! You'll hear how much we think Jason takes a backseat in this film's story and the name we come up with to refer to the other killer of this movie, our thoughts on the rewriting of mythology for Jason and what we think may have happened between the writing and the filming of that mythology and several thoughts on the non-casting of Kane Hodder as Jason in this sequel. The story so far: After stumbling down a mysterious dried-up well and tunneling through the stone walls to search for an escape, the boys have been trapped in a mysterious, underground, 80s-era-inspired VHS rental shop called Moleman's Movie Hole for months. Becoming disembodied, the boys float through space, heading toward whatever the afterlife offers. But space is big, and they have time to kill, so they pop in a ghost tape of Jason X (2001) to keep them busy. The conversation, much like the afterlife, is full of questions like:What's a grundle? What's a good name for the next planet humans will move to?Can Jason beat the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers? What will human evolution lead to?And how will humans treat androids when we all have them?Next movie announced every Wednesday. New episodes every Monday. Ben, Cory, and Noah discuss the self-parodic, "what if Jason went to space?" plotting of the tenth entry in the Friday the 13th series. Directed by Jim Isaac, written by Todd Farmer and starring Lexa Doig, Lisa Ryder, Chuck Campbell, and Kane Hodder.
Wikipedia: he Hatchet film series consists of American slasher horror films developed from original characters created by Adam Green; including four feature length films. Adam Green is the creator and writer of the Hatchet franchise, and he shares some great stories about Hollywood, and what it took to get Hatchet made! He details his battle against the MPAA over Hatchet's NC-17 rating, and how that loss completely changed his movie and his life. He reveals what inspired the Victor Crowley character and look, how he comes up with the crazy, gruesome kills for each sequel, and what it took to get horror genre greats like Kane Hodder, Robert Englund, and Tony Todd involved in Hatchet. He breaks down the practicality behind some of his grossest kills like the double chainsaw murder and Tony Todd literally being ripped right out of his skin. And he explains what really happened with Eli Roth and Cabin Fever 2.
