S4 | Alana Cecil Case Update

Play Episode Listen Later Jan 13, 2025 4:02

Today's episode is an update on Season Four, The Night of the Bonfire, in which I investigated the tragic death of 16 year old Alana Cecil in Melton, Australia in 1996.I want to thank all the local listeners in that case for their support in what was the most difficult case I've worked on to date. If you listened to this season (and I highly recommend you do), you'll be aware of the emotional toll this case took on not only myself but others directly involved. When I released the final episode of this season in September of 2024, I made it clear that this was not the end of the investigation, but just the end of the podcast, for now.Throughout the final months of my investigation I had been working increasingly closely with Victorian Police on new developments in the case, evidence that was not included in the podcast. At this point I felt the appropriate move was to pass this new evidence on to Police so that they may use their vast resources to investigate further. I firmly believed that these leads were the strongest in the case to date and that the truth of what happened to Alana was finally after 28 years, was very close. In November of 2024 I was informed by the Senior Detective I had been liaising with, that a report was being compiled based on the new evidence and was being sent to the Superintendent for review. Then in December the news that Alana's family have been waiting 28 years to hear. After reviewing the evidence Victorian Police made the decision that there will be an official further review of Alana's case in 2025. This review will be undertaken by a newly formed team of four detectives, who will thoroughly canvas the existing case and the fresh evidence in an attempt to finally get to the truth.Since that time I have provided further evidence to Police to assist in their investigation and continue to provide support where required.Naturally Alana's family are ecstatic with this development, and for myself and the Podcast this is a huge win. This is what it's all about, this is why I put in the hours and why you listen and engage, so I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for all your support and to those who subscribe, you're a huge part of making all of this possible. The review of Alana's case is underway now, and hopefully 2025 will be the year we finally get the truth and justice for Alana and her family.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/guilt. In October of 1991 Urban's body was discovered 70km away from where the New Zealand Police said it should be, when it was discovered up a forest road in Parakiwai, near Whangamata.Yet despite this contradictory new evidence and the eventual discovery that a key witness had committed perjury, David Tamihere was not successful in his appeals and served 21 years before being paroled in 2010.To this day Tamihere has always maintained his innocence, that he never met the Swedish couple, and he certainly never murdered them.It was almost one year ago, in December of 2023 that I released the final official episode of Season three of GUILT - Finding Heidi. This episode was the last in what had been an eight month investigation by myself to try and get to the truth, and more importantly to try and find Heidi.Since the release of that episode my work has not stopped, in fact it has amplified, as I've worked with the New Zealand Police to ensure that fresh evidence I've uncovered has been actioned appropriately with one final goal in mind, to find Heidi.Over this series of episodes which I'm calling Finding Heidi - Part Two Endgame, you're going to hear the story of this year's work, and how it led to a recent event, which I believe is the most important development in this case in 30 years.. Everything you're going to hear is new, and has never been heard before. And by the end, this case will never be the same again.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/guilt. And by the end, this case will never be the same again.Episode One of Finding Heidi Part Two will be available for subscribers on November 11th 2024. On the night of 9th November 1996, Alana Cecil, who had only recently turned 16, was excited to attend the Djerriwarrh Bonfire Festival in the small city of Melton, just out of Melbourne in Victoria, Australia. When she left home that night it would be the last time her family would ever see her alive. Sometime in the early hours of November 10th 1996, someone or some people took a syringe and injected Alana Cecil twice, once in each arm, with a lethal dose of Heroin. They then dumped her body in the back driveway of a vacant home. Eight years later a DNA breakthrough identified the semen of two men on and in Alana's body. One being a 49 year old man known to Police, who when questioned by Police simply answered 'No Comment'. Neither these men, nor anyone else has ever been held accountable or responsible for Alana's death. And neither man has been able to offer a valid reason their DNA was present. For 28 years Alana's family have fought for answers, and justice for Alana. Now through this podcast we're hoping that with your help those responsible for her death will finally get what they deserve. In Season Four of GUILT - The Night of the Bonfire, Ryan heads Down Under, to Melbourne Australia to search for the truth. What happened to Alana Cecil?
