From August, Greyhound racing will be illegal here. The move follows several critical reviews of the industry and concerns around animal welfare in the industry. A Transition Agency's been set up to help rehome up to 2000 dogs and is responsible for their welfare until then. Meanwhile Greyhound Racing New Zealand's floating the idea of taking up to 70 dogs, on a charter flight to Queensland Australia, where racing is still legal. JP Morrison Lans decided to grow up to be an artist while visiting the Carole Laroche Gallery in Santa Fe New Mexico when she was eleven years old. Five years later the Tulsa Artist Coalition supported this dream for her when she was accepted for her first solo exhibition. Since then she has earned her BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute, co-owner a gallery, had her work purchased for the permanent collection of the Bundaberg Regional Gallery in Queensland Australia where she lived for two years and created immersive art installations for AHHA Tulsa, the Living Arts New Genre Festival, and the Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition.  Morrison Lans has shows her work with M.A. Doran Gallery, Tulsa; Heron Arts, San Francisco; Keep Contemporary, Santa Fe; and 19 Karen, Gold Coast, Australia. She has been a resident artist at SVA, NY., Truro Art Center, MA., Rockland Woods, WA., the Vermont Studio Center and Quarantine in Menorca, Spain. Morrison Lans is a member of the international artist collective Teleportal.Gallery and is an inaugural member of the NYC Crit Club's Canopy Program. She and her child can typically be found experimenting with encaustic and lego, respectively, from their home studio in Tulsa, Oklahoma.Statement:I explore the relationship of body and psyche by combining figurative realism, symbolic objects and intuitive abstraction. These collected elements are metaphors for my experience of womanhood, motherhood, love, loss, self-preservation, panic, desire, and knowing. Through layers of color pencil I create translucent skin. The addition of gouache and encaustic allows me to comb sheens and dimensional shapes around my drawing, forming membranes and isolated objects which express the subject's emotional escapades. Often I use orientation dissonance –the inversion of the figure– to symbolize circumspection, surrender, gestation, and metamorphosis. I render hands frequently, they represent intention and action, also the mouth, tongue and teeth as gateways between the inner self and outer world. Through taste and touch, we experience intimacy and desire. This anatomy creates boundaries while also being an entry point. My work invites you to experience this same push pull of entering and observing from a distance.

Today I am chatting with Ash Winton. Ash has lived in Queensland, Australia for the last 12 years, but is originally from Alaska, and is of the indigenous Tlingit people. She and her husband, who run a trail building company, have a four and half year old son, who they unschool and plan to continue doing so. Among lots of things, we talk about what natural learning looks like, how social norms can often be in direct opposition to our intuition, and the importance in all this of being in touch with our own nervous systems, and what it means to be our true selves. She earned her bachelor's degree in science from the University of Queensland—one of the world's top-ranked universities—before launching her career in banking and finance at one of Australia's leading financial institutions. Her life took a surprising turn in 2010 while vacationing in San Diego, where she met her now-husband crossing the street. One year later, they were married. Over the next few years, they lived in San Diego, Cleveland (her husband's hometown), and Atlanta, welcoming their first two children along the way. It was during her first stint in Cleveland that Simone noticed something striking about the U.S. housing market—unlike in Australia, cash-flowing rental properties were a real opportunity here. That insight led to their first real estate purchase in 2012: a duplex where they lived on one side and rented out the other, letting the tenant cover their mortgage and expenses. Simone made herself a promise: if they ever moved back to Cleveland, she'd dive into real estate full time. Fast forward to 2016, when the family relocated to the Sunshine Coast in Queensland Australia. There, Simone started a healthcare business that quickly took off, growing to nearly $5 million in annual revenue in just four years. Her husband joined the venture, and in the midst of scaling the company, they welcomed their third child. In 2021, they sold the business and returned to Cleveland. Simone kept her promise. In just over three years, she's completed seven full renovations and manages a growing portfolio of rental properties under her company, Moza Homes. Her most recent project, Boomerang Ranch, turned a tired mid-century home in Moreland Hills into a high-design showcase that went under contract shortly after listing. Through Moza Homes, Simone wears many hats—owner, general contractor, licensed real estate agent, and designer. Her approach is hands-on and highly intentional. “Moza Homes was born from the idea that real estate investment could be both artistic and profitable,” she says.
