S3 Finding Heidi UpdateRyan is currently still working on the final two episodes of Finding Heidi Endgame. There are a couple important loose ends that need to be tied up to conclude the season. So this week we're re-introducing The Veil with the Subscriber only special episode - Where is Sara Neithe?On Sunday 30 March 2003, Sara Niethe drove out of Kerepehi in her mother's light green Honda Civic, stopped at a dairy in Ngatea where a security camera recorded her, and carried on to a house at Kaihere. She was never seen again. Her daughter turned ten the next day, with a table booked at a café. Ten years later Mark Pakenham pleaded guilty to her manslaughter — he had injected her with methamphetamine, a drug she had never used, and watched her die. He was paroled in 2016. Sara has never been found. Neither has the car.IF YOU KNOW SOMETHINGThe car is the most useful thing anyone can help with: a light green 1987 Honda Civic hatchback, registration NH4050, which vanished from the Kaihere / Ngatea / Thames area around 30–31 March 2003 and has never surfaced at a wrecker, been re-registered, or turned up in a drain or a paddock. Investigators believe that wherever the car is, Sara is with it.Anything else helps too — ground turned over on a farm that autumn, a paddock people were told to keep out of. He was also convicted of two counts of injuring with intent to injure, relating to two women in Auckland between 1990 and 1992; those appear only because the sentencing judge relied on them in open court. He was paroled on 22 June 2016. This episode does not report on his life since. He later denied the account he pleaded guilty to; the Parole Board said this suggested "a person who is dishonest".No other person has ever been charged over Sara's death. The episode refers to one man, unnamed, recorded as having been in contact with Pakenham that day, who died in 2018. He was never charged, no court has made any finding about him, and no allegation is made against him.There was no trial, so no tested evidence and no judgment of fact — only an agreed summary and a sentencing. There is no forensic record: no remains, no post-mortem, no toxicology, no scene examination, no vehicle. Sara's age is reported variously as 30, 31 and 32; we used 31. The view that Pakenham had help disposing of Sara and the car is Bruce Currie's, and is not a finding of any court; police say there is no evidence of it. Neither of us wants to do the standard interview where someone walks through their résumé. We're more interested in how a person thinks over the course of a long conversation than in the story they've prepared to tell about themselves.That leads into a conversation about friendship and how hard it is to stay in touch as an adult, especially when the work you do doesn't have set hours. We both notice that our closest friendships are the ones with a shared project attached. Matt brings up an idea he came across recently: in any conversation, people are either listening or waiting to talk. We use that to get into conversational narcissism, the reasons we ask each other questions, and whether it's possible to get rid of your ego or if the better goal is learning to work with it.The second half gets into restaurants. Servers who interrupt at the wrong moment, servers who never come by, and reservation systems that try to manage how long a table stays. It's the same question in a different setting: figuring out what someone actually wants from you. On the night of 9th November 1996, Alana Cecil, who had only recently turned 16, was excited to attend the Djerriwarrh Bonfire Festival in the small city of Melton, just out of Melbourne in Victoria, Australia.When she left home that night it would be the last time her family would ever see her alive. Sometime in the early hours of November 10th 1996, someone or some people took a syringe and injected Alana Cecil twice, once in each arm, with a lethal dose of Heroin. They then dumped her body in the back driveway of a vacant home.Eight years later a DNA breakthrough identified the semen of two men on and in Alana's body. One being a 49 year old man known to Police, who when questioned by Police simply answered 'No Comment'. Neither these men, nor anyone else has ever been held accountable or responsible for Alana's death. And neither man has been able to offer a valid reason their DNA was present.For 28 years Alana's family have fought for answers, and justice for Alana. RECALL: Act Three By the time RECALL reaches Act Three, Miami Military Academy is no longer pretending it can survive. The school is still marching, still saluting, still shining brass and barking orders into the Florida heat, but the center is gone. Colonel Barnes is dying. Commander Patterson knows it. Sally knows it. And the boys, even when they are laughing too hard to say it out loud, can feel the whole place slipping into history. Written by Academy Award nominee Bruce Davison, and once optioned and held by the great Carroll O’Connor with eyes on a Pacino lead,, RECALL is a funny, savage, deeply human coming-of-age drama about abandoned boys, broken fathers, old soldiers, Cuban exiles, secret weapons, and the terrible bargain countries make when they ask the young to carry the sins of the old. Act Three begins with the last quiet hours before everything breaks. Lishinsky and Sally steal a small piece of freedom on the water, drifting toward Captain Kidd’s Island, talking about California, escape, fathers, graves, and the strange fantasy that two damaged kids might simply sail away from all of it. But nobody really gets away from Miami Military Academy. Not yet. Inside Barnes’ house, Patterson sits beside a dying friend and is handed the thing no soldier wants: responsibility without rescue. Barnes tells him the Army is calling in its chips. The school, the land, the boys, the munitions, the whole dream is coming apart. Patterson rages because he knows what the place is, and what it has been. A broken institution, yes. A madhouse, absolutely. But also the only home some of these boys have ever had. The old bunkers by the bay are suddenly more important than the boys standing in formation. The parade takes them through Miami and into the Dade County Fair, where the whole strange, glorious organism of “A” Company explodes into one last carnival of cigars, sheep, majorettes, busted noses, bad decisions, and Patterson turning, for one mad instant, into the hero the boys still need him to be. But the comedy cannot hold the line forever. Colonel Barnes is gone. The flag drops to half-mast. The Razor Fiend is finally revealed. Lindquist, the feral boy from the mango trees, becomes a cadet, a savior, and maybe the strangest proof that the academy was never only a school. It was a place that took in the lost and gave them a uniform because it had no better language for love. Slouch and Bebop reach the end of pretending. Bebop is called home by a country that no longer exists the way he remembers it. Slouch follows because friendship, for him, is the only oath that ever meant anything. The Cuban exiles come in the night. Patterson tries to stop them. History steps over him. Sally leaves for California. Lishinsky stays behind with the ache of first love and the knowledge that some people are not meant to be held. Patterson sits with his ghosts. The boys graduate into a world already waiting to use them. And somewhere beyond the academy walls, the Bay of Pigs turns courage, loyalty, and bad American promises into blood in the surf. On August 28th 1999, 16 year old Jessica Gaudie would vanish without a trace while babysitting in Nambour, on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland Australia.In August of 2001, Derek Bellington Sam is sentenced to 15 years imprisonment for her murder, but to this day has refused to co-operate with Police and take them to Jessica's body. On August 28th 1999, 16 year old Jessica Gaudie would vanish without a trace while babysitting in Nambour, on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland Australia.In August of 2001, Derek Bellington Sam is sentenced to 15 years imprisonment for her murder, but to this day has refused to co-operate with Police and take them to Jessica's body. Dial 988 for the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline** On the morning of January 25, 2018, the lifeless body of 71 year old retiree Alan Abrahamson was found shot to death in a large open field in Palm Beach Garden, Florida.  At first glance, his death appeared to be self-inflicted, but the problem with that is when they searched around and underneath Alan's body, there was no gun to be found.  So, this had to have been at the hands of somebody else.  But who?  And why is it Alan appeared to be so at peace when he died?  If someone was chasing after him to shoot him, how is it he appeared as though he simply laid down and peacefully went to sleep?  It had detectives scratching their heads...until one of them remembered seeing a case similar to this on CSI...
